post water damage fun! - T-Mobile HTC One (M8)

So I decided to test the phone's water resistant capabilities. I video recorded a front flip off the diving board..(Yes I was intoxicated). The video ended about a second after I hit the water but the phone remained on for about five minutes. This incident happened on Sunday by the way and I'm writing this post on the same phone, anyways it shut off for five hours then managed to get it running for the rest of the night until the battery died. The next day it wouldn't charge or do anything. I left it off, unplugged until today and now I have full working capability with everything, but the screen is a little crazy. Already made an insurance claim to replace, before you hate I was prepared to pay for the experiment so here's a screenshot. Enjoy! And don't replicate...cheers

that's interesting when i took a screenshot the picture of my apps menu looks perfectly fine on a computer, but my actual phone has massive yellow lines streaking down through the phone at all times...very interesting.

LOL not interesting at all, you've water damaged your screen.

Not interesting at all lol...You damaged the hardware, a screenshot isn't going to show that.

[Solved] My new T-Mobile Galaxy 2 just bricked itself!!

Sitting at the laundromat, watching a video that I downloaded thru the facebook app, all of a sudden the screen goes black. Thinking it went into sleep, I pressed the power, no response. I press and hold the power button, screen is still black, but this time it gives a haptic feedback. I press and hold again, it does the same thing. I removed the battery, waited a few secs, replaced the battery, and tried to power on, I still get the black screen and haptic feedback. Every time I press and hold the power button, screen remains black, no leds, with haptic feedbacks. I never dropped or water damaged the phone. Seems I may have received a defective unit. Production date on my box reads 09/28/2011. This phone is returning 1st thing in the morning!
Did you try to recharge the battery? That might be the problem

Try booting with sdcard and simcard off and see if that helps. If not you might need to return it..

How about restoring it to recovery settings? Boot via holding the both volume keys and power then clear data and dav.

have you tried removing the battery, plug usb cable computer to phone with battery removed, then putting battery in?

When I tried this, the samsung logo kept flickering very quickly along with a haptic feedback, but would not go into recover.

i would agree with this wise decision as well
i might be a Samsung hard core fan, but this is definitely signs of a defective unit
This might be a Samsung thing, cause my old Galaxy Tab used to do this once in a while too.
Has anyone else had the production date of 9/28/11 on their phone package?

Any problems so far? I have it on mine as well.

This is what I discovered today......after the fiasco, I left my phone turned off while charging overnivht. Started my day off with a full 100% charge. I use bluetooth with my car stereo, and occasional talking. 2hrs into my day, I noticed that I still had a complete charge. Few hours more pass, still a complete charge after web browsing and everything else. I found this to be kinda odd considering my usage. I decided to reboot, and lo and behold, after reboot, my battery indicated less than 50% charge! With that being said, leads me to believe that actually my phone wasn't really bricked last night. More so, my battery gave the wrong readings, and while I'm watching videos, thinking that I have enough juice to do so, actually it didn't, which lead to the sudden shut off. I think my battery completely discharged without me knowing it.

Green hue on all blacks appeared?

The screen on my note 3 suddenly showed a green hue color. I took some screen shots to show but after I pressed the power button(standby) to turn screen off then back on again the green hue disappeared?
So thinking the pictures would still prove the issue, no I was wrong the screen captures I took with the green hue are also fine . Not sure whats going on...Perhaps it is hardware related hence why it does not show in the captures. Basically all the blacks had a green hue to them / in fact were green .
Today is the 14th day for me to return or exchange the device at t mobile. Please advise. I did install some dark wallpaper apps but deleted them yesterday, was using normal stock wallpapers. I am not rooted.
Do you think it is hardware related? I believe if it was software related then the screen captures ( which I took when screen went green) would also show the green hue.
Had the same problem here but mine had a pink hue.Try to reset the colors. Just type *#0*# on your phone dialer and use the 3 colors for 5 minutes each, it will reset the pixels.

It went away when I pressed it on standby and back again.
What gets me concerned is that when I took a screen shot when it was green it didn't show on the picture after it remedied itself.

So have the problem gotten worse since then?
I have seen it now and then. Often happened when I was on the phone and closed and opened the lid.
Happened now that I opened the lid after attaching it to the charger.
Should I expect it to get worse, and therefore return it for a new one or will it be a rare bug now and then?
Reading mode enabled?

Hi,
I bought mine in October 4th 2013, has occurred twice so far. Taking screen shots does not show it. I am thinking it is a software glitch.
Reading mode was not enabled. All dark areas of screen goes green.

If you are doing a screen shot, it is reading the state from the device and saving it. So later if you look at that screen shot and it looks okay it most likely is not software. If you look at the screen shot while the unit is displaying the green look and it looks right, then you most likely have a software issue.
Sounds like a hardware issue or perhaps some weird mode being set by software. I still think it is hardware though.

I perhaps hoped that you had answered my question when I first posted as this occurrence first happened on the 14th day of my purchase, so I had a choice to return to T Mobile store for swap out. Either way, only occurred twice so far, so I am not worrying too much about it. Shelf life for phone for me is approx 12 months max, so all is good thus far. Pressing the standby button afaik cleared it up at the times it occured.
I too have had this happen twice now and months in between. Happened after mj5 update could that be a cause

Doubt it, as mine is stock N900T that has no updates as of yet.
The first time I rebooted and it went away. The second time it was only like that for a few seconds and cleared up on its own. I'm on the at&t version

Mines does this once every few days apart, if I just turn off the screen and turn it back on it goes away. I also took screen shoots but they show fine in the gallery. I only seen it once on my wife's note.
I have exactly the same problem, the green hue appear, and turning off the screen or dial *#0*# and select one of the color to test the screen can clear that away. it happens once per one or two weeks for me. I'm worried that may be a hardware issues and that is a symptom before the device fail. Does any of you have this happened then your phone became not working ?
btw, It's seems happens after I changed to a magnetic flip case ,not sure if that's related, will try not using that case and see if that will gone away. Are you guys having this problem also using a case with magnetic flip ?

HELP! dropped phone and it wont start now

TLDR: was walking with my plate watching youtube like one does and then the phone fell. the screen was still on when it fell then i just picked it up, locked the screen and put it in my pocket. i take it out and BAM it doesnt work anymore. Screen is black but the back and menu button still glow.
Took out battery and put it back and nothing happened. any ideas?
I cracked my screen one night... still worked but the next day I woke up and all of a sudden the screen is black (back and menu buttons still lit up)... actually have heard quite a few owners report this issue when dropped... probably a loosened cable or some sort of manufacture issue that happens when the phone lands a certain way after being dropped... sorry bud...

damn i knew it had to be an internal issue. well im going to stop by a samsung repair/service center i saw going back and forward from my house and see what they can do.
EDIT: well it sucks but i may have broke the lower half of the touchscreen and it seems like the lcd is completely dead even though the phone is pretty much fully functional. well time to get a replacement

water proof? Hopefullly?

well accidentally left my M8 on top of my car's trunk today during light to medium rain for 30 minutes plus. makes me mad because i was like 10 feet from it and ultimately just forgot about it. i turned the screen on and everything was working but immediately turned it off and when i got home put it in some rice. hopefully it lives up to be rain proof haha. not sure how long to leave it in for since the only openings are the speakers and USB port?
i have no idea how long to leave it in rice but please post updates!

I think it's a little bit waterproof ? All New HTC One (M8) Water Test - Water Resistant?: http://youtu.be/lhwvXTVQoPM
Tapatalked with my "refrigerator look" HTC one M8
It's got a ipx3 rating I think. Which is suppose to protect against splashing water. I read somewhere that it can stand up to rain for 5 minutes. Of course I would never test it lol but it's nice to know there's some protection

Yesterday I spilled a whole glass of carbonated water on it. Water covered bottom half on the phone including speakers. There was apsolutely no damage, I just wiped it with shirt and speakers were working normally immediately.
I'm just hoping that won't be any problems in the future because of that splash.
Mine got some water splashed on it and the screen immediately died. Used adb to quickly shut it off, and did the rice thing overnight. Phone powers on fine, gets calls, and even registers touch on the screen, but it stays black. The water indicator under the flash wasn't tripped, but not sure if there are others inside.
Pretty upset having this two week old phone get ruined by a small spill, especially after watching a video where one is submerged for over half and hour still working >_<

Mobile phones were never made for dunking, much like home phones weren't. Whilst I totally understand the mobile concept of phones now and how they can get to places that home phones never could it still never ceases to amaze me that people think these things should be able to swim. :silly:

Vertical line on screen

Hello everyone
Tl:dr: bellow
Just a quick rundown
Placed phone to top it up a few min, lifted it from the charger to find the display had that line in it.
Freaked out a bit restarted it and the line was still there. Then started backing up my files to my SD card, came back after 90min to do manual back ups of other stuff after a few minutes the line disappeared. I was most of the time in the "My Files" file manager.
So, anyone have a clue what this was? I know I'm supposed to go to where I bought the phone, but their turnaround time is 45 days and my old device isnt fixed yet and I heavily rely on my phone for work.
Besides they might swing the old "you fked up your display so full repair price for a screen"
Tl;dr: weird line appeared on display, then disappeared, freaked out.

If you're talking about the black line next to your alawm sidget, I think you'll find that's part of your wallpaper, or the trigger for edge pannels.
Other than that it might be my old eyes, but I can't see any lines in your picture on imgur.

Usually that line means a hardware issue... Someone had it on S9 and ended up having to replace it after factory reset etc did not help

The weird **** is that it actually disappeared. I called them up and they said they cant do anything since the issue isn't present right now and I did browse threads looking it up but I cant find anyone where it disappeared and what happened after.
Yeah, I have an Xperia with damaged oled that sometimes has a vertical line of pixels blacked out. Totally a hardware damage on my part when the phone fell and landed on the charger plugged in.
