[Q] Water Damage HTC G2

What's up guys, I recently dropped my G2 in a puddle of water,
I was wondering if it was a good idea to get it fixed by HTC or if you guys have any other recommendations of G2 repair companies?

You should have taken the battery out ASAP and then just leave it out and unplugged overnight. It will be fine.

I did take the battery out, but the LCD has a greenish hue, the wifi is unresponsive, and the haptic feedback is off. Does this mean I need to get all of these components in order for it to work?

If it was already submerged completely and the tub of rice doesn't work, one more last ditch thing you can try is to submerge and rinse it out in a bucket of CLEAN (ideally distilled, at a minimum filtered) water.
If there were minerals (or other contaminants) in the water/liquid it was submerged in they could still be on the circuit board, the clean water might just clean it off.
Of course after you try this you need to let it dry for at least 24 hours then submerge it in rice for another 24 hours.
(The rice will absorb the water)
My boss once dropped his blackberry in a toilet and used this method, he did not use rice though, tried it after a day of drying and it didn't work, tried it again 24 hours later and it still didn't work but on the 3rd day the device came back to life so he called it the "JesusBerry" for the next ~year until he upgraded.
BTW you are probably screwed, so don't get your hopes up.

Yeah, ideally you should let that thing dry out for more than 3 days. I know we all "need" our phones, but if you want it to work properly, you're just going to have to wait. I dropped my BB in the toilet, took the battery out, rinsed it, and let it sit. I was impatient and tried to use it the next day - it was all messed up. Three days later, it started to function, but there were a lot of glitches - and I mean a lot. Not until a couple of weeks was it functioning as it should. If you are under warrantee from HTC or have phone insurance, I suggest you just send it in.

You should have left the bb in the toilet where it belongs.

Hey now, that was a low blow =P Former Berry Addict myself turned Android Addict =D
Like others have said, patience is key. The last thing you want to do with a wet device is try to run power through it. Take the battery out, let it sit in a warm, dry place for a day or two, then transfer into some rice and see what happens on day 3 or 4. You may still be out of luck, but worth a try.
I had an old Sony Ericcson dumb-phone years ago that I took on a long bike ride on a hot summer day in my rear jersey pocket. After 4 hours of riding and soaking in my sweat it was toast. Used that method and in 3 days it was alive and kicking again =D
Good luck! Maybe you'll end up with a Jesus-Z =P

I'm also coming from a bb phone. That thing was a pain in my balls. Constantly freezing up,not enough memory,took centuries for the thing to boot up & the list goes on & on. Not that I'm bitter about it or anything,just saying.It had it's problems. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Everyone can hate on blackberries but one thing is for sure: they have kick ass battery life.
And that's the only reason why I would get a blackberry. Especially for those camping trips without electricity..

Yeah I do see myself paying money (smh) in the near future to get this phone fixed, I guess my best bet is to find a bricked G2 and use it for its parts.

Yeah the methods worked but I am still having problems with the wifi and the screen is ugly. The LCD is green but as a phone it works, I might have to buy a bricked G2. Anybody knows who have a bricked G2?

Well this was ~10 years ago and at the time a BlackBerry (957) was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

this is a horrible day for g2 users....R.I.P lmao

Yeah, the BB was a pain in my ass too, but whoever said the battery life was awesome is right. I didnt have a data plan with it, so I never used it to its capacity. Also, If you'd like your personal info synced to your computer only and not Google, then the BB is where it's at. But anyways, did this guy ever ay what he did with the phone?

I resently had my phone dropped in water. My screen seemed a bit off in color. I removed the battery and placed the phone on top if my cable box for a day and it was fine after that.

Ugh, sorry to resurrect this thread, but did that fix it for you? My g2 decided to take a bath in the toilet and the very first thing I did was take the battery out, dry it off with toilet paper as thoroughly as possible (including the sim card, memory and headphone jack slots) prop it with with the keyboard apart and on its side to maximize airflow in front of a fan. I'm going to go to sleep with it like this and hopefully it will turn on tomorrow....

Aha... After my first phone fell in some water, I never ever brought it near anything that could be damaged by water. Lol an advice, don't ever bring your phone when your using the bathroom... leave it on the bed. So yea I paid a lot for my G2 and don't want it f**ked up you know.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus - Almost Waterproof?

Droids don't belong in the sink.
Good news, it's ALMOST working. It stayed on, and actually Skype stayed on broadcasting its drop. I panicked, pulled it out, tried to turn it off, pulled battery. Ended up it bootloop.
Flashed a series of images most of the days and finally this process seemed to get me the closest.
1. Flash CWM to boot.
2. Reboot in unlocked fastboot
3. Flash Google stock images
It ACTUALLY booted. I had WiFi, cellular connection and a touch screen.
The touch screen became sluggish, stopped working, my phone restarted itself.
Back to boot loop. Tells me all the hardware is working, just intermittently.
Don't know what else to do.

I'm confused. Is this a story about your phone surviving "water?" Or are you simply looking for help on what to do because your phone is boot looping?
If it's help then it was probably a bad idea to turn the phone back on. Best thing to do is put it in a bag of rice and leave it there for a couple of days for everything to dry. I'm not sure what there is to do now because you already turned it back on and it could of caused permanent damage to your phone. You can put it in a bag of rice and see what happens anyway. You might get lucky.

When you drop any gadget in water, best thing to do is immediately remove the battery and leave it in a bowl of rice for a day or two.

all i know is i'll be damned if i ever decide to do a water(or liquid of any kind) test on this phone or any other phone for that matter. phyiscal abuse is a different story....
from my experience, a phone can really take a beating, but when it comes to liquids.. game over!

I should know better. I just wish the person I was Skyping with recorded the demise of my Droid

Just dry it out for a few days, or longer as others have mentioned above, i had a magic that was fully soaked that would boot fine after a few hours of drying but it took almost a week before the touch screen was working stably, i gave it to a friend as i had already replaced it and it went on to be used daily for another couple of years.

I saw somewhere that you can dunk it in rubbing alcohol to displace the water before you put it in rice.

I wouldn't recommend that. I'd recommend opening up the case since warranty shot anyways and pat dry as much as possible, then stick in rice.

One X Survival Thread

Just thought I'ld post up and let you know that the One X can manage to go under water for a second or two and continue to work, ish!.
Dropped my in water this morning. It came out of the water working, but I could see water mark behind screen.
It then proceeded to freak out and restart/boot loop for an hour or two (and the damn thing would not power down to dry out!).
But after all that, a few hours later having drained 100% of its battery in an hour, now seems quite happy again and the sign of liquid behind screen has gone.
It was touch and go for a bit though.
Dropped my old HD2 in a puddle once and it didnt bat an eyelid. Never did anything odd at all.

If you do have problems, put it in a bag of rice and tie it then leave it for a few days, completely sucks out all moisture and should be back to normal, if you have fried anything.

Tips for drying a htc one x?

Hi!
I dropped my phone a bucket of water today. Got it up quite quickly and dryed it with compressed air. It turned it self on and off during a period, but now it seems to work fine. But now I have moist behind the camera lens. Any tips for removing moist there?

Leave the phone (Switched off) in a container full of uncooked rice in a warm area. Should do the trick.

Turn the phone off completely from fastboot and put it in a bag of rice, sealed up for 3 days. Do not turn it back on until 3 days have past or you will further damage your phone.

I have the same problem,but worse. I dropped my OneX in a stream of heavy rain water by the road and its been in the water for about 10 minutes while i was searching for it all over. I was glad I found it and in the haste and panic because its just a couple of weeks old,i pressed the power button,to find it working alright,then the signal reception cut off,i unlocked the screen,turned the airplane mode on. I could do all this and then it went off. I took the Sim out,rushed home, immersed it in a bowl of rice. Would that do? Please help

The most important thing is to NOT power it on again, not for atleast 3-5 days, i'd let it be off for 5 days, in a bag of rice standing on an element(the heat stuff you have in every room). If you turn on the phone before it's all dryed, you will probably damage the internal hardware, you know electric stuff doesn't like water that much.

Yes i got that. But i was thinking if going up to the HTC service center would help. Wouldnt they disemble and dry it up? I dont mind being charged but i just want it to work

Well Ive called up the HTC support and they asked me to go to the center where they will diagnose it and tell me whats what.
All i can hope now is that they dont reject for service on my face

The problem esp. with the HOX is that since the battery is sealed in the unit, its not easy to disconnect when needed. So by the time one realises that its been under water, damage might have already been done as the circuits still get a charge from the battery. So like others said, its better to leave it alone in a bowl of rice for a day or so and pray.
Lets hope HTC do the needful and fix your phone...

Exactly. The thing i admired when i bought is what turned to be a disadvantage. The concealed nature of the phone left me worried sick.
Its been in rice for 16 hrs now and Im praying every minute. Hope HTC does whats needed. Il keep you posted. Thanks for all the help!

Hello! I went to the HTC service center after having the OneX in rice for 36hrs. The guy said they cant open it here and so it has to go to the headquarters of India for service and said he'll get back to me in a week or so. Upon asking he told me that a smiliar water damage issue came up to them and when they sent it to the Headquarters,the Head sent a new phone altogether to the guy. Now I have a bit of hope. Do you think i can?

They might send you a new phone. You will probably need to pay for it.

You were right. HTC called up and told me that the repair cost would be about 400$ and i bought it for 630$.Theyve told me that the battery,touch screen,the motherboard are all gone. Guess its just hard luck :crying:.

One last thing. HTC said that the battery,main board, the lcd,the touchscreen are all gone so all will be replace but at the cost i mentioned before. Do you think its worth going for? Considering it will became as good as a new one..?

400 is steep you might be better selling it as damaged and buying a new one

Thats unfortunate. I remember having a nokia (when color screen was pretty new) go in the washing machine. When is started it up afterward only 1/3 of the screen were visible. In due time function by function returned when the phone dried out and after ~3 days it was back to perfect state

Yes sir,i thought so too,and i contacted HTC and told them im a student who wouldn't be able to afford such a pricey repair and they have actually took it into consideration and the lady told me to wait a couple of days to confirm with her head/country manager for a 50% off on the repair. If that happens,will it be worth it?

My missus dropped her iPhone in a bucket of bleach, so it was found 3 hrs later, had to rinse it with water, strip it down, get a tub of rice and put the parts stripped down into tub, the rice draws all the moisture out of the parts. Put it back together after 48 hours and after 1 week everything on screen was A okay, good as new. Always worth doing this yourself to save Money, and insurance claim rise.

[Q] One X screen problem

So yesterday me and my friends went near a lake and had a little bit of alcohol,so i fell into the water with the phone in my pocket turned of.
But later when the phone dried,i turned it on and it was all working but the screen brightnes is not adjustable,now can anibody advise me what to do

First of all that's funny! Silly things happen when we are drunk.
I suggest you fully dry your phone out put it in a sack of rice for a few days then see what happens.

It's highly unlikely you managed to get it completely dry in 1 day.

Stick it in a bag of rice for 24 hours and hope for the best.

You could try a factory reset, but strange things happen from water damage.
My old Sony Ericsson worked fine, except for the fact (after I dropped it in a pan of gravy) that the gsm aerial only had a weak signal. Everything else was normal..
Could try silica gel, but there could be corrosion (you can't always even see the corrosion) from minerals/deposits in the water, which is causing a short circuit somewhere, causing the problem.
Unfortunately any water damage automatically (to the repair centers at least) means it's BER (beyond economical repair) so if you can't fix it from it drying out (ideally give it at least 3 days or even more in the rice or silica gel) the only option really is to buy a new one, or claim on insurance if you have cover.

THx for the answer,but unfortunately this phone dosent have a warranty,i think im just gonna buy the screen and then im gonna send it to my nearest reapir center,and yes i can see dried up water under the screen.

i know the feeling! my dhd got wet yesterday in the rain argh! even the battery indicator shows no water damage (to that at least) yet the screen is buggered lol. looks like its been smashed in a way. got it in a tub of rice currently.. hoping it might dry out.
glad it wasnt my hox it happened to anyway

the review says its not original. i'd steer clear personally.
