My screen is dead. The backlighting won't turn on at all but I can see the actual image on the screen(however faint it looks and in the perfect angles). I had rooted my tablet though before hand and I believe i flashed a custom rom on it. I'm supposed to send it in but am worried about it being rejected. I had bought it refurbished if that's worth anything.
There is a thread on here about backlight issues being from a loose connector. I personally would take the 5 min to open tne back cover and check for a loose plug.
Otherwise odin it back to stock, and wipe it becore you send it.

That will not revert back tripped Knox counter 0x1
Really?
Pretty sure anyone that roots their note 10.1 know Knox is irreversible. My Odin it back to stock comment was a try and hope for the best suggestion. Thus the alternative. Open it up and check the connectors.

If it's a hardware issue its really hard for them to argue its your fault for ROMing, then again, some carriers and repairmen can be a real pain. I recommend you erase all trace of you ROMing that you possibly can. Your warranty IS void when you do this stuff, and Android makes it blatently obvious by showing an open hinge on startup when you unlock the bootloader.

Yes send it back to stock to make sure its not a software problem. Don't use Odin. Flash it with Fastboot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
If you return to stock and there's still a problem, then you should pursue a warranty claim.

Same thing happened to mine, two weeks ago, plug was fried. Mine charged only when turned off and plugged into an AC charger. Assuming you can't plug into a computer then fastboot may not be your answer, Odin is. I flashed mine back to stock this way and had no trouble at all with warranty. Have a look here for some help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27945515&postcount=128
By the way, If you need to back up stuff on your phone without USB access, AirDroid is pretty handy.
Thanks all
But when i called for warranty they told me it would take 3 weeks. So i just bought the part and fixed it for $12 hahaha

I don't believe so...
But if your problem is just with the lcd why not flash it back to stock first just in case?
Also.. What's wrong with your lcd if you don't mind me asking.. Is it a defect or something you did?

It got dropped it ....
I dropped my t-mobile GS3 and shattered the top glass. I have insurance, will they accept my claim even though my phone is rooted and running a custom ROM? I can easily ODIN back to stock, but I've read about some sort of "counter" when custom ROMS are flashed. Anyway, does anyone know if they will accept my claim or what I need to do?
Thanks in advance !!
Yes use triangle away and it will put the counter to 0. I also beleive you will be fine regardless because you broke the glass.

Thanks, What is Triangle Away?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114
[15.09.2012][ROOT] TriangleAway v1.95
phone: sgs2 GT-I9100
kernel : dorimanx 5.80
main rom: rr 2.7
second rom: cm 9.1
baseband: I9100XXLQ6
The counter referred to in the op is a flash counter, it counts how many times your device has been flashed. It puts a yellow triangle on your device that appears during boot up, download mode etc... Thats how they know you've flashed. Triangle away is an app in the play store that removes the yellow triangle from your device and set the counter back to original

Thanx all. I have my replacement phone. Will Triangle Away and Odin back to stock (just to be safe). Thanx again xda community you all rule.
So I was ice fishing a few days ago and dropped my phone in the lake...yea, I'm retarded...long story short, my camera or flash does not work. I tried flashing a different Rom as a message said "camera failed" hoping it was somehow a software issue, but it looks like it is dead. Which brings me to my issue. Obviously they can see it has water damage from the pink marker...So what is the best way to unroot this thing and clear it of any signs that I rooted it? I've read a lot of mixed procedures on this and a lot of bickering between what to really do. So I was hoping someone could put me right exactly where I needed to be so I can resolve this as fast as I can. Thanks guys
This is an at&t phone...just to totally clarify that

Assuming that you can get the device in download mode. You can install the stock firmware with Odin. Go to sammobile and download the firmware for your device. Then extract the file. Fire up Odin, choose pda, then locate the file. Click Start and your device will end up with stock unrooted firmware. You might also want to get triangle away from the market to reset your flash counter before you proceed. There are stickies on this in the development forum.

Yea the phone works 100% minus the whole camera assembly. Also do you happen to know what the protocol on warranty service is? I know I'm out 200 right from the get go, is this something I can resolve at an at&t store or do they have to send me one?

From what I remember they will charge you full price for the repairs and it might cost as much as a new phone. My friend drove over his note two and they charged him 299.99+50.00 service fee. Because water damage and other things void warranty. It doesn't even matter that you rooted since the warranty is void anyway.

AT&T won't warranty the phone if it has water damage, you'd be stuck paying full( off contract price), unless you have another line due for an upgrade, or can get them to do an early or partial upgrade. If you had insurance on the phone, then you'd pay a deductible and they would send you another phone(usually refurbished).
Good luck
I thought I had mentioned that in my original post. I do have full insurance on it. I guess I said "warranty" didn't I? So what are the processes involved with an insurance claim. I apologize for not realizing this earlier.

I also checked out triangle away, it says it can only reset the counter on certain phones(sgs3) if it is in a stock configuration. So I have to unroot...reroot, reset the counter and then unroot again....?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
ok, so here's the steps i took to unroot. Used triangle away to reset flash counter to 0...rebooted into CWM and cleared everything. Went directly from there into download mode.....And it showed flash count of 1!...WTF. So i proceeded with unrooting through ODIN because....idk. My question is, "what did I do wrong?". Shouldn't the flash counter read 0 and does Asurion/Samsung actually check this particular thing? I need some help here guys

try again, in this order:
Remove the battery cover
In Triangle Away, select "reset flash counter"
Once in Triangle Away's boot menu, press vol up to reset
The device will reboot. When it gets to the galaxy sIII screen, pull the battery, wait a few seconds, replace and power up
Go into download mode and check if it has successfully reset the counter
From download mode, go into recovery
Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik
Go back into download mode
Launch Odin,
Plug phone in
Flash device-specific stock firmware
After phone has booted, unplug it
Once it goes to the galaxy sIII boot screen, pull battery, wait, replace
Boot into recovery and wipe data and cache
Reboot system
i think you may have to be on stock for this to work. keep me posted
ok I'll be doing that probably tomorrow. I did all the BS paperwork for asurion tonight so hopefully that'll be dealt with tomorrow. All I have to do is root install TA and follow those steps. One question though.... Where is the option in triangle away to let it boot itself into DL mode? I don't recall seeing that.
Side note, I now remember why I rooted in the first place. Stock battery life is laughable compared to what I'm use to haha

Flashing a stock 4.3 restore will return your phone to original (stock) ROM and kernel, un-root, reset your flash counter and install stock recovery. Once your warranty bit is tripped, however, there is no known method of resetting this. Unfortunately, with your LCD bust, you wouldn't be able to see what you are doing. You can only hope that since they wouldn't be able to see either ....

Looks like they are hardly consistent wit the warranty thing. I just saw a post from another guy who had exactly the same problem. Sent it to Telus and they declined claiming it was a physical damage not covered by warranty. I guess insurance works separately from the standard warranty. To be on the safe side, however, I just remembered I sometimes connect my i747 to an LED TV using a micro-USB to HDMI adapter. The adapter can be bought cheaply online and lets you use your TV or PC with HDMI as an image screen for your phone.

If I am not mistaken, you should be able to use the fastboot commands using ADB to flash things. He or she will need to have the packages he or she is needed to flash the 'fastboot' folder. He or she will also need the packages in order to do fastboot as well.
