I have had my Nexus 7 2013 for I think 6 months now. For weeks now have been having regular problems with my auto rotate, which appeared to start a couple weeks after switching from my beat up Poetic Slimline Ultra case to the Moko Ultra Slim case (more on that in a little). There would be random times where the auto rotate would appear to work after a reboot, and others where it would not. Even after some complete wipes and rom installs the screen would still not auto rotate a lot of the time.
I recently discovered that the backing to the tablet itself, in the bottom right corner when in portrait mode, was a bit loose, I believe maybe because of the tightness of the moko case (or possibly from a couple of times I dropped the tablet in the case). I was thinking maybe this is related.
I had tried safe mode many times and it still did not auto rotate in safe mode. I just tried riptide gp2 which I have not played in a long time, and found that the tilt function was not working at all, which these meant to me that it may be a hardware issue and not software related. Booting with the moko case off the tablet most of the time still did not auto rotate.
I took off the moko case and peeled back quite a bit on the loose part of the backing of the tablet to see if I could see anything in there that may be of issue (could not really see anything as I did not want to totally risk breaking the back off). So I let go and firmly put back the corner as much as I could. After that I booted and the auto rotate and riptide GP2 were working as expected.
I am looking for ideas on if its possible the moko case is causing an issue with the gyroscope and I should not use it anymore, or if my tablet may have a hardware defect and if I should RMA it, or if anyone else has a suggestion on a possible way I can perma fix this issue, or at least determine the true hardware cause of it.

I had the same problems with multi touch as others have stated before, I also posted this fix in the other thread but that one turned out to be more about the wifi issues which I do not have.
About a week ago I installed the Rootzboat ROM on my phone, and after that my multi touch issues went away. I could now play shooting games! But, at the same time I also put an otterbox case on it and didn't think anything of it. Yesterday i took the case off while I was playing a game and the issues reappeared--I could no longer use both the right and left corners for input. I turned the screen off and put the case back on, the issue disappeared once again. So, if you're having the problem try putting an otterbox or some other thick screen protector and case on it.
I think the solution comes from the thick plastic screen protector which comes attached to the case (and is not actually applied to the screen) is lowering the capacitance readings for the phone (probably because of the distance). So the solution may lie in the driver software. Anyways just my 2 cents.
I purchased,
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/NEW-Three-St...ios&hash=item4abc8f0ae3&_uhb=1#ht_4861wt_1037
case for my SG-N8010 and everything seemed to be fine until i noticed a S-Pen disorientation near the area where the magnet was. However, using my finger seemed perfectly fine. At first I thought it would be some software issue since I upgraded it to 4.1.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1925720) but after hours of searching the net for a possible solution I gave up. So a buddy of mine wanted to see it out of its case today and I noticed that the s pen was working perfectly when he was playing with it. I did try this later on and figured out that the problem did reside in the magnets being in my case.
SO voila! If you buy a magnetic case and face a s pen disorientation problem, just get another non magnetic case as it is frustrating at times when you are at lectures and constantly have to avoid a certain part of the screen to write on.
Please note I am no expert in Android, Im just the typical person who can install roms/kernals/multiwindow apps etc.
This problem may not affect you but it did on my SG-N8010.
Cheers

I figure this out back in the days of the g1 I actually returned 2 of them because the compass got all screwy. Since then I avoid magnets near my electronics like the plague.

I too had this concern when buying a case. Ive had the official bookcover case for about 2 months now and every once in a while the s-pen will require extra force to register. This only happens above the magnets and with the case on. Once i take the case off and put it back on, everything is fine. It doesn't happen enough to bother me. Hopefully it isnt a huge issue.
With my regular Wacom tablets (same technology), I have this issue if I sit my laptop over the keyboard and I notice the CPU interferes with it...
Sometimes my phone as well will cause problems. Because there is a signal between the pen and the tablet (the tablet screen in this case), that really doesn't surprise me...
Well I have been using a case with magnet, not really a big user of SPEN but whatever little I used for did not see any issue.
Hi,
I've just check.
I write a pattern of flat line all over the screen in Quill program, and have detect two areas where the spen don't works.
I use a no original book like case.
Once released the tablet from the case, the two areas works fine.
I've tried to search for this problem, but was unsuccessful.
When I am typing, the new Nexus 7 keeps freezing. I tried installing another keyboard, same problem. When this occurs, device is totally unresponsive, including home, back, volume and power keys.
I can't even return this now that 2 weeks is over.
I also tried factory reset twice. Someone please help thank you
Have that happen once a day or so.
Try turning off Wifi while you're typing and see if that helps.
Otherwise, it will take an update from Google/ASUS to fix, unless it's a hardware issue.
Either way, after 3 weeks, there's no info coming from either source.
Not that I'm surprised.
This is a known and well documented issue.
Your only choices are to:
A) Wait and see
B) Warranty to ASUS or Google, depending on from which you'd purchased it.
Its a know issue on jss builds of 4.3, the new nexus 7 is the only device that official runs it. Google should fix it soon, and paranoidAndroid should be releasing there hybrid 4.3 build soon. That fixes it as we'll..

What is it that PA has done to fix the freezing?

Damn.. it happens even while I am NOT typing. I.e. open up Chrome. Enter "cnn.com". Press Enter. HANG.
WTH??!
In my case the freezing occurs when the magnet case is opened 180 degrees so the front cover is folded all the way back. Lifting the folded cover a half inch away restores response. So I think it may be related to the magnet in the case.
magnet case is the prob

I made exactly the same experience with the magnet. After having stopped using the magnet case there are no more freezes. I have also completely stopped using chrome and switched to Dolphin browser. Now the system is super stable and fast!
Maybe my solution is helpful to one or the other.
I have a rooted system with Cyanogen mod 11 (4.4.2)
I’m using an origami case with the tablet. The flap unlocks the screen just like it should when I flip it open. When I close it though, it doesn’t lock the screen. Sometime its fine as I’ve set the screen to turn off in 30 seconds. However, I noticed that XBMC keeps the screen on and I end up finding a dead battery the next day because the cover didn’t turn off the screen.
Do I have a faulty sensor? Its not the case because I tried another case/cover and it does the same thing.
Thanks

If the "other" case was the same make and model it doesn't prove much. There have been tons of issues with non-Samsung flip and book covers across multiple device forums. Go to Best Buy and try an official case. If it works it's not your sensor.
bought another case today, this time the poetic slimline. just like the origami case, it auto unlocks the screen when opening, but doesn't auto lock when closing. tried the case on a friends 10.1 2014 and auto locking work so its definitely my tablet and not issues with the case...i'm not sure if its hardware or software as i'm running cleanrom w/ bindroid kernel. any suggestions? its not annoying enough to sent in for a fix since i can simply use the GMD gesture to quickly turn off the screen but its still a mystery to me.
thanks
edit: flashed the bindroid rom and now the tablet auto sleeps and wakes with the cover...i guess it was the software...
Received a used Nexus 7 LTE (2013) from Amazon Warehouse today, presumably a return. This is my first touch screen of any kind I've used (well, at least since the IBM learning ones I used at the Seattle Worlds Fair). The first problem I encountered was auto rotate not working right, which a cache clearing solved. However, along the way of installing apps and choosing the settings, I've noticed that certain parts of the screen, mainly outer edges, and certain buttons don't respond well. That is, in certain places and with those short horizontal buttons, such as after some installs, it's hard to get a response. And when I do it seems more serendipitous than systematic. Is this normal, something most everyone experiences? I've pressed the screen to the case several times to see if that helped, but not really. And I do have relatively medium sized stubby fingers, which probably aren't optimal for a screen of this type. In any case, I'm thinking if this is a hardware problem, I better deal with it now, while I can still return the tablet. Thanks,
One other thing. Checking the battery, I'm seeing 4+ hrs left at 92% full. Is that a false reading, such as one often sees with laptops?
Any help about the taps? I'm hoping this is just a newbie question. I did test with Yet Another Multitouch Test and everything looked fine. However, typically I have to tap twice to get action within apps, when I thought once is supposed to do. That's what the Nexus 7 Lollipop books say. So what am I missing?
Some apps (for some reason) are insensitive. I have that problem most frequently with browsers, which I suspect are updating something in the background. By the way, this is not unique to the N7 -- I see the same thing on a Nexus10 and a Samsung Tab Pro.
If you're new to tablets, one other thing to check is *how* you tap; make sure it's with the ball of your finger, not the fingernail. If the fingernail is touching, the rest of the fingertip may not make sufficient contact for the capacitive screen to register the tap (my wife had this problem for a long time).
Thanks for the reply. I found apps in general are less responsive than the google part of it. And strangely, I found angling my finger towards the nail side was typically more effective with the recalcitrants than the ball of my finger.
It turns out, belatedly noticed, that the N7 Amazon Warehouse sent was not the LTE model (no SIM slot), so back it goes, along with everything else. However, as a first time through with a touch device the N7 experience is certainly not wasted (even if a lot of time was). One thing my fat fingers and the working of some apps got me thinking about is maybe I'd be better off with a slightly larger tablet.
