I've tried to search for this problem, but was unsuccessful.
When I am typing, the new Nexus 7 keeps freezing. I tried installing another keyboard, same problem. When this occurs, device is totally unresponsive, including home, back, volume and power keys.
I can't even return this now that 2 weeks is over.
I also tried factory reset twice. Someone please help thank you
Have that happen once a day or so.
Try turning off Wifi while you're typing and see if that helps.
Otherwise, it will take an update from Google/ASUS to fix, unless it's a hardware issue.
Either way, after 3 weeks, there's no info coming from either source.
Not that I'm surprised.
This is a known and well documented issue.
Your only choices are to:
A) Wait and see
B) Warranty to ASUS or Google, depending on from which you'd purchased it.
Its a know issue on jss builds of 4.3, the new nexus 7 is the only device that official runs it. Google should fix it soon, and paranoidAndroid should be releasing there hybrid 4.3 build soon. That fixes it as we'll..

Damn.. it happens even while I am NOT typing. I.e. open up Chrome. Enter "cnn.com". Press Enter. HANG.
WTH??!
In my case the freezing occurs when the magnet case is opened 180 degrees so the front cover is folded all the way back. Lifting the folded cover a half inch away restores response. So I think it may be related to the magnet in the case.
magnet case is the prob

I made exactly the same experience with the magnet. After having stopped using the magnet case there are no more freezes. I have also completely stopped using chrome and switched to Dolphin browser. Now the system is super stable and fast!
Maybe my solution is helpful to one or the other.
I have a rooted system with Cyanogen mod 11 (4.4.2)

Hi,
I've got brand new Nexus 7 FLO and something's weird happens to my touchscreen.
When I keep Nexus in my hands, everything works just fine, but when I, for example, put it on my sofa then touchscreen miss my touches (it detects only few instead of, for example, 20). This only happens on certain bases (for example - works perfectly when lying on the desk, but on sofa there is a problem). I have no idea what could be the problem but it's really irritating. Multitouch works perfectly when N7 is in my hands...
Anyone experienced something like that?
Regards,
Kamil
Yep, I notice the same. Very annoying in some occasions.

I had the same issue and even sent it to ASUS to fix. They never said what they did but when I got it back it did not have the screen protector on it. So I put one on it and within a few minutes started having the same issue with it not responding unless I was holding it. So I took the screen protector off of it. I no longer have the touch issue, but now I don't have a screen protector either. So if anyone knows of a good screen protector that will work please let me know.

Did you use a static/dry apply screen protector or a wet apply? Maybe try the opposite of what you used.

It was a static dry method. I will have to get a "wet" style screen protector and try it as you suggest.
This all falls under the same category of the touchscreen problems It isn't specific to multitouch, that was just the first of the initial findings.
The problem is a sensitivity problem with the grounding somewhere in the device. When you have the device laying on a non-conductive material (desk, couch, table, etc) it isn't getting grounded properly or hitting it's grounding threshold to properly register a touch.
This is where sfhub's fix comes into play. It corrects the grounding thresholds (I guess) so that the tablet is responsive in this type of situation (one handed) as well as multitouch and stickiness or wonky behaviors.
Removing a screen protector *CAN* improve this, but you are better off flashing the fix until Google releases a patch.

I have actually wet apply on mine and haven't had any issues with it. I haven't tried a dry apply so I can't comment on that. Cheers bro:beer:

Disappointed that Google and Asus haven't resolved this yet. Yes there is the patch from sfhub, but I'm sure only a minority of users will come to find his post and actually apply the patch.

Hello,
i recently bought a 10.1 2014 and i got an official case with it.
This case got a magnetic band which is working pretty weirdly.
Actually i always thought that a tab will sleep when the cover close thanks to the light sensore.
This one detect the magnet, and even when i open it and put the cover behind the tab, it will sense the magnet and stop the screen.
This is annoying.
But worse, when i start the screen again and that the tab is still on the cover (which is behind fully opened) i wont be able to bring down the notification panel. this is insane...
Any idea why ? is my tab working wrong ? or its my Case which is totally ****e ?

Same thing happens to me with the moko slim fit case. I think it is due to the magnets being slightly stronger than average. I put a cloth between the case and the camera area and it stops it from doing that. Still I will probably send the case back. I have till the end of January to return it.

This happened to me too and crashed the notification panel which is very annoying. I just tried put a piece of cloth b/t camera & case and see if that helps. I'm glad that I'm not the only one experience notification panel crashed or something.
Thank you for your answers.
If it can change the behavior of the system like this, do you think that after a time it might dammage the hardware to have a permanent magnet stuck to the tab ?

Sutely it will cause some permenant damage after using such cases for prolonged lenght of time which is why I never bothered with the cheapy cases, not worth the risk.

Hallo
After I updated to 4.2.2 my screen stopped respond to the touch. but only to touch with the finger and that is allso the "hard buttons", like Back and Menu. if i use the S-pen there is no problem.
I didnt have this problem befor updating, only after.
I have try to "Factory data reset" but that has not help. But it is like there is a "do not respond to finger touch, only to Spen" setting on.
I hope i have explained well enough.

I'm having this same problem with factory image of 4.2.2 on GT-N5110
The touch screen stops responding to my finger, but it responds normally to the s-pen.
Anyone else have the problem and idea for resolution?
Update: its somehow related to the case I was using. There is some sort of a proximity sensor in the phone and its getting confused and thinking the case cover is closed.
Was able to recreate the problem several times when its IN or even sitting ON the case. But is has never happened when the tablet is OUT of the case.

Does that case have a magnet in it?
There is a "magnetic" sensor on the left side of the Note, when you close the case it will then shut off the note, some cases will even do that when you completely flip the "book" cover.
Hoping this helps

Common problem when this device came out. Mine did it to. Installed flexbeam rom by civato and problem went away. Kitkat is coming very soon and should fix the problem unless you want to root and install flexbeam.

I have had my Nexus 7 2013 for I think 6 months now. For weeks now have been having regular problems with my auto rotate, which appeared to start a couple weeks after switching from my beat up Poetic Slimline Ultra case to the Moko Ultra Slim case (more on that in a little). There would be random times where the auto rotate would appear to work after a reboot, and others where it would not. Even after some complete wipes and rom installs the screen would still not auto rotate a lot of the time.
I recently discovered that the backing to the tablet itself, in the bottom right corner when in portrait mode, was a bit loose, I believe maybe because of the tightness of the moko case (or possibly from a couple of times I dropped the tablet in the case). I was thinking maybe this is related.
I had tried safe mode many times and it still did not auto rotate in safe mode. I just tried riptide gp2 which I have not played in a long time, and found that the tilt function was not working at all, which these meant to me that it may be a hardware issue and not software related. Booting with the moko case off the tablet most of the time still did not auto rotate.
I took off the moko case and peeled back quite a bit on the loose part of the backing of the tablet to see if I could see anything in there that may be of issue (could not really see anything as I did not want to totally risk breaking the back off). So I let go and firmly put back the corner as much as I could. After that I booted and the auto rotate and riptide GP2 were working as expected.
I am looking for ideas on if its possible the moko case is causing an issue with the gyroscope and I should not use it anymore, or if my tablet may have a hardware defect and if I should RMA it, or if anyone else has a suggestion on a possible way I can perma fix this issue, or at least determine the true hardware cause of it.
Recently I've been noticing that my N4 is having touch sensitivity issues on the right side of the screen. This is kind of a big deal because I'm a righty and use my right thumb most of the time to navigate pages when holding my phone. I'll further explain what's going on so maybe someone can chime in.
Let's say I open up Instagram and visit a page. When I get to the page I can see all their pictures and scroll to look at them. If I scroll on the left side of the screen with my finger I have no issues at all. As soon as I scroll with my thumb on the right most of the times it'll select the picture and open it when in fact I only wanted to scroll.
I've had this phone for a few months now and this issue just popped up recently. I didn't have a screen protector on the screen (glass or plastic) and in fact just bought a glass one yesterday to see if maybe that will make a difference. It didn't.
Another example where this issue is visible is if I'm typing and using SWYPE. As soon as I trace to the right side of the screen the SWYPE line will break and royally screw up what I was typing. I believe this is a hardware fault so I will take it to AT&T to have them look at it for me.
I remember running into this shortly after disabling a handful of things via that method to get rid of bloat that's floating around on here. I'll see about getting a replacement sent out. I want to hear from anyone who's done that debloating method that's posted on this forum. I haven't tried a master reset yet as I'd have to back up a lot of stuff beforehand. I don't think that will help but I'll try it anyway and report back.
Tried the master rest and the issue persists. I'm waiting for AT&T to open to see if I can get this replaced today.
That sounds like your best bet at the moment. When you reset did you reset from within android or did you reboot into recovery and reset? might be worth it, just for sh!ts and giggles to try from recovery.

I have been experiencing the same issue and haven't thought much of it until I read this post. A lot of time when I try to end my phone calls the end button doesn't respond to my touches. Also it take a few time with the apps on the right side of my app drawer as well. Doesn't happen every time but enough for me to take notice. I did not debloat, but do have some apps frozen through the app manager.
I'm at a Device Warranty center right now. Next in line and going to get a replacement N4. Do the SWYPE test. Swipe on the right side and see if the blue line breaks and it messes up your words royally.
Had a replacement ordered so I should have it mid-week.

Also had the same issues ending calls. You know how nosy people get. They wait until you hang up and if you don't they'll literally hang on the phone.

No, I'm using a slim case by case mate. It's just one of the cases that fits like a glove.
I received an email saying I should have the replacement by Tuesday. It's so frustrating to type on the phone. It'll be over soon though.

Yeah, had one of these cases. Left a thumb size area on screen that would react to touch, but not to s-pen. Replaced it with new Note with no issue, put back in case and issue is back only then I figured it out. Waiting for Samsung OEM case.

Definitely not my case causing the issue. I will make a video.
I've started having a similar issue with my Verizon Note 4. Really annoying to simply try to scroll and have links clicked and opened. "Increase touch sensitivity" has always been turned off. It's definitely not case related, and I'm not using a screen protector.
finally!
