Good day. I'd like to consult some issues I have with my S Pen sensitivity. It's too sensitive that it triggers a tap or swipe even if the pen is away from the screen (maybe 5-8mm away). Anyone have any idea how to fix this? Firmware is XXLIH. Thanks!
Edit: Also tried turning off Air View and still had same issues.

Looks like it, tried my note 1 S Pen and it working fine. Just sent a message to my shop so I can consult them with the issue. Thanks

the s-pen works with a button integrated into the tip, so it can't cause touches without actually touching something.
it most likely means your tip is broken/stuck so it constantly thinks you're touching the screen.
you can try moving the tip around a bit to see if loosens it enough to respond the way it should, but if that doesn't work you'll have to contact samsung or the store you bought your note 2 at to get either the stylus or the entire phone replaced.
replacing the stylus should be enough, but stores usually don't replace single accessories when they are included with a device.

I did that and actually worked! Pen is now stable onscreen. Will observe if this issue still persists tomorrow. Thanks for the tip (no pun intended )

Hey guys. Rather then start a new thread. I did a quick search and found this one.
I have the same issue as the OP. My pen seems too sensitive. When I scroll across apps or through the gallery, whilst hovering the pen a few millimetres above the screen, it clicks on stuff. This shouldn't happen right? It seems it does it more so in the top right corner. If any of you have the samsung weather widget on the homescreen there, all I have to do is hover the pen above the refresh button and it sometimes will just continually click on the refresh button. Its annoying. I'm just hoping its the s pen and not the note itself!
P.s I love this phone! !!
:crying:
Funny as I also had this weird behavior, and just rotating a little bit the tip loosened it up, and now all is well.
Tried to reproduce the issue with normal usage, and I wasn't able to trigger it again... will observe for a day and see what to do, as this N2 is just sweeeeet working !
Thx for the tip! :good:
Re:
No doubt i have heard several time about the problem of S Pen over sensitivity but in most cases the reason has been seen with the sensor. So, I think better is that you replace it with Samsung because i don't think there would be any other solution. The problem is related with Sensor and you should replace it as soon as possible.
Thanks guys. As you say, might be difficult to exchange it now as its only the stylus. As the phone is working flawlessly!
I'll use it for a few more days and see. Hopefully it'll loosen on it's own behalf!
I got the Same problem When I Consulted Samsung Service Centre they showed me that it is even happening in their handset

For those with issues, are you using screen protectors? I read one review where a guy mentioned a screen protector was actually interfering with the pen usage. And once he took it off it was ok. It was a matte one in specific.
Nope l AM not having any screen protector On My phone

I have this exact issue.
I read somewhere if you hit the back of the pen several times against a hard surface it seems to temporarily fix the issue. Something to do with demagnetizing the magnet inside the pen. Not sure if this is a load of crap, but it seems to be a temporary fix for me.
I contacted Samsung about it and they told me just to reset and reflash the firmware *sigh*. Not sure I want to do that just yet, but I will if no other solution is found soon.
I am not sure if this is right topic to write but my problem is also about s-pen. As you can see in the picture that area what is "over the s-pen holder" does not recognice the pen if immediatly. Like if I am browsing the web and scroll from that area there is always little delay. And when making note it works perfectly if I move pen to this area but not if I land the pen in this area, then happens what you can see in the picture. Does anyone else have this kind of problem?
I hope someone understood what I am trying to say.

This is what Samsung replied to me. I might as well try it to see if it makes a difference:
Thank you for contacting Samsung.
I am sorry that you are having issues with the S Pen of your Galaxy note
II, I can appreciate your frustration with this as it is a relatively
new device.
A feature of the S Pen is that when within 30mm of the screen, it
disables touch pad functionality with the finger. It should not however
actually do anything without contact with the screen.
Please be advised that the issue reported with the handset indicates
that it may need a software reset, or re-flashing of the firmware, in
order for it to operate normally again.
Before doing this, you should backup all the data from your phone before
going to Menu > Settings > backup and Restore > Select appropriate
functions from list.
If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and
we will be more than happy to help.
Kind regards,
Mícheál
I have had my note for about a day now and ive noticed while using the S Pen even with air view turned off it will select and activate rhings even while hovering about 1\2 ofd the screen. This makes taking notes and typing, and well using it effectively at all almost impossible. Anyone noticed this or have a suggestion?

Who woulda thought
Wow.. Who would have guessed taking the stylus out out and slamming it down flat on a hard surface would fix it. Is this a permanent fix, like it was just misaligned or not properly put together at the factory and this put everything back to normal, or is this something that needs to be done everytime or every other time I take it out of the phone... I guess time will tell.
It seems to be hit or miss for me. Sometimes when I use it, it works fine, other times its super sensitive.

I swear this pen in schizophrenic. It will be fine 9 times out of ten then boom it goes back to being sensitive the rest of the time.

I got my SGN2 2 days back. My S Pen was super senstive and without touching the screen I was able to open/ view/ scroll/ flip like a magic wand without touching. Later even I realized, I was not able to write anything legible due to this. I tried all methods in the settings by switching off air view/ rebooting. None worked. That time, I jumped over this forum, and found that opening the S Pen button and moving the screw clockwise would help, though others suggested to tap the S Pen on hard surface. I tried opening, but was scared as it can create some dent. I was not able to open tough. I tried tapping the back of S Pen button on hard surface. I tred using now and it works really great. I am able to draw, type, touch and scoll etc. But now I started missing that hovering hyper sensitive mode. Is it a bug or can that be brought back? I really liked that option too whenever I need. Is it possible to bring that back?

You liked it being hyper sensitive and registering 'clicks' when just hovering? Makes it very hard to navigate around the phone. But don't worry, it seems it'll come back once in a while to 'haunt' you. I'm thinking of just seeing if Samsung can replace just the S-Pen, I really don't want to swap out my note II
I've noticed that mine seems to have settled down a bit, perhaps the hardware/ software just needed to go through a break in period.

michaelatrix, can you explain how you took the button off?
Thanks
Just pop the button off. Its the potentiometer closest to the tip. Clockwise = less sensitive.
I just went to the bell store where I bought the phone and they replaced my pen from another phone and it has been perfect ever since.
The potentiometer is VERY sensitive I had a tough time getting it right so I said screw it and got a new one.
BTW I called ATT up and told them of the issue. I asked for a replacement SPen. The guy said he didn't see an SPen in his database. I told him that it's in the accessories. He said yes sometimes they have different databases. He connected me to the warranty department but was put on hold for a while ( he was on hold with me), maybe 15 mins. Finally he got tired of waiting too and just gave me a 35 dollar credit so I can just purchase it myself.
I tried the soft slam method to calibrate it ....... yeah ... id have to push thru the phone to make it work ... in other words it just doesnt work now ... goin to the store see if i can get a new one .. if i cant ill just request a new phone

When I am typing, the new Nexus 7 keeps freezing. I tried installing another keyboard, same problem. When this occurs, device is totally unresponsive, including home, back, volume and power keys.
I can't even return this now that 2 weeks is over.
I also tried factory reset twice. Someone please help thank you
Have that happen once a day or so.
Try turning off Wifi while you're typing and see if that helps.
Otherwise, it will take an update from Google/ASUS to fix, unless it's a hardware issue.
Either way, after 3 weeks, there's no info coming from either source.
Not that I'm surprised.
This is a known and well documented issue.
Your only choices are to:
A) Wait and see
B) Warranty to ASUS or Google, depending on from which you'd purchased it.
Its a know issue on jss builds of 4.3, the new nexus 7 is the only device that official runs it. Google should fix it soon, and paranoidAndroid should be releasing there hybrid 4.3 build soon. That fixes it as we'll..

Damn.. it happens even while I am NOT typing. I.e. open up Chrome. Enter "cnn.com". Press Enter. HANG.
WTH??!
In my case the freezing occurs when the magnet case is opened 180 degrees so the front cover is folded all the way back. Lifting the folded cover a half inch away restores response. So I think it may be related to the magnet in the case.
magnet case is the prob

I made exactly the same experience with the magnet. After having stopped using the magnet case there are no more freezes. I have also completely stopped using chrome and switched to Dolphin browser. Now the system is super stable and fast!
Maybe my solution is helpful to one or the other.

Hi,
I've got brand new Nexus 7 FLO and something's weird happens to my touchscreen.
When I keep Nexus in my hands, everything works just fine, but when I, for example, put it on my sofa then touchscreen miss my touches (it detects only few instead of, for example, 20). This only happens on certain bases (for example - works perfectly when lying on the desk, but on sofa there is a problem). I have no idea what could be the problem but it's really irritating. Multitouch works perfectly when N7 is in my hands...
Anyone experienced something like that?
Regards,
Kamil

I had the same issue and even sent it to ASUS to fix. They never said what they did but when I got it back it did not have the screen protector on it. So I put one on it and within a few minutes started having the same issue with it not responding unless I was holding it. So I took the screen protector off of it. I no longer have the touch issue, but now I don't have a screen protector either. So if anyone knows of a good screen protector that will work please let me know.

It was a static dry method. I will have to get a "wet" style screen protector and try it as you suggest.
This all falls under the same category of the touchscreen problems It isn't specific to multitouch, that was just the first of the initial findings.
The problem is a sensitivity problem with the grounding somewhere in the device. When you have the device laying on a non-conductive material (desk, couch, table, etc) it isn't getting grounded properly or hitting it's grounding threshold to properly register a touch.
This is where sfhub's fix comes into play. It corrects the grounding thresholds (I guess) so that the tablet is responsive in this type of situation (one handed) as well as multitouch and stickiness or wonky behaviors.
Removing a screen protector *CAN* improve this, but you are better off flashing the fix until Google releases a patch.

Did smb. try flashing files from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428133?
Are they helpful in this particular situation?
Recently I've been noticing that my N4 is having touch sensitivity issues on the right side of the screen. This is kind of a big deal because I'm a righty and use my right thumb most of the time to navigate pages when holding my phone. I'll further explain what's going on so maybe someone can chime in.
Let's say I open up Instagram and visit a page. When I get to the page I can see all their pictures and scroll to look at them. If I scroll on the left side of the screen with my finger I have no issues at all. As soon as I scroll with my thumb on the right most of the times it'll select the picture and open it when in fact I only wanted to scroll.
I've had this phone for a few months now and this issue just popped up recently. I didn't have a screen protector on the screen (glass or plastic) and in fact just bought a glass one yesterday to see if maybe that will make a difference. It didn't.
Another example where this issue is visible is if I'm typing and using SWYPE. As soon as I trace to the right side of the screen the SWYPE line will break and royally screw up what I was typing. I believe this is a hardware fault so I will take it to AT&T to have them look at it for me.
I remember running into this shortly after disabling a handful of things via that method to get rid of bloat that's floating around on here. I'll see about getting a replacement sent out. I want to hear from anyone who's done that debloating method that's posted on this forum. I haven't tried a master reset yet as I'd have to back up a lot of stuff beforehand. I don't think that will help but I'll try it anyway and report back.
Tried the master rest and the issue persists. I'm waiting for AT&T to open to see if I can get this replaced today.
That sounds like your best bet at the moment. When you reset did you reset from within android or did you reboot into recovery and reset? might be worth it, just for sh!ts and giggles to try from recovery.

I have been experiencing the same issue and haven't thought much of it until I read this post. A lot of time when I try to end my phone calls the end button doesn't respond to my touches. Also it take a few time with the apps on the right side of my app drawer as well. Doesn't happen every time but enough for me to take notice. I did not debloat, but do have some apps frozen through the app manager.
I'm at a Device Warranty center right now. Next in line and going to get a replacement N4. Do the SWYPE test. Swipe on the right side and see if the blue line breaks and it messes up your words royally.
Had a replacement ordered so I should have it mid-week.

Yeah, had one of these cases. Left a thumb size area on screen that would react to touch, but not to s-pen. Replaced it with new Note with no issue, put back in case and issue is back only then I figured it out. Waiting for Samsung OEM case.

Definitely not my case causing the issue. I will make a video.
I've started having a similar issue with my Verizon Note 4. Really annoying to simply try to scroll and have links clicked and opened. "Increase touch sensitivity" has always been turned off. It's definitely not case related, and I'm not using a screen protector.
