I just stumbled across this thread over on the Note 3 forum, and was wondering if anyone has tried to do this on one of our KitKat ROMs?
I'm a photoshop jockey...and I barely know how to jam custom battery images into themes I like and make em work, so this is totally out of my league This, of course, means that there are probably a hundred reasons why it won't work that I can't even fathom.

Hey there,
I'm another guy who's been creeping around the board for the last month and have been eager to modify a ROM to my own needs.
Basically it comes down to that i would love to have the ability to take a modified ROM and rip out some of the parts i do not want or use or for whatever reason.
For like the past two hours i've been trying to google tons of sentences and i heard the term "kitchen" dropped alot, but alas. I could find no more info then the plus-member-kitchen-deal from modaco...
So now i'm wondering, How -does- one modify a rom. Are there any tools available for my wishes. (If yes, can you name any? If no, what skills are required?)
I need a good shove in the right direction, but i dont feel like pm-ing a random rom developer, just because im a whining ***** about some usually small aspects of the otherwise great rom(s).
Removing apps/widgets from a rom really isn't difficult.
If you PM me with exactly what you'd like to remove, I'll explain in full

You can't go wrong with using the CKDroid ROM if you are just looking for a custom ROM, however, Villain's ROMS are updated regulary and there is loads of support in the forums, it's not as hard as you think.
Hello there everyone. I have been browsing this site for about the past 2 years but only decided to register because I am upgrading from my OG Droid Incredible to the Nexus and i see how large and active the Dev base is for this device. I have a fair amount of experience with flashing roms on my Dinc (currently running CM7.2) and am excited to make the move to ICS.
I would like some opinions on what you guys think are the best custom roms out for the nexus though. so far I am very interested in AOKP because it seems to be the most stable and polished rom i have seen. I plan to flash my nexus right out of the box when i get it.
Also, i can't seem to find a place to add a signature in the Cpanel, is there one somewhere or do you guys just add on a Copy/Paste to the end of posts?
If you've been around this site for a couple of years now you should know that asking "what the best ROM is" only leads to closed threads. Its all a matter of opinion. What works for one person may not necessarily work for another.. why this person thinks this ROM is the best, another person may think the opposite. It's best to try them out for yourself, see which one YOU like.
As far as editing your sig.. at the top somewhere on your PC, you'll see User CP (user control panel).. click it. Then look to the left if your screen.. along the sidebar you should see Edit Signature. ..if that's what your referring to!

i'm sorry if i come off like i want to know what the "best rom" is, i know that there is no best rom and like you said what works for one person may not work for another. that being said, some personal opinions about their taste in roms are still useful are they not?. and i do fully intend to try out several roms. as for my experience with this site, 90% of it has been with viewing the first page of rom posts, so i apologize for my ignorance in that regard. and i thoroughly searched through the user control panel to no avail, signatures must be disabled for me if that is where the interface to change them is located.
[EDIT] the reason joined this site is because with the nexus, i would actually like to get involved in the dev community and create something new, i was trying to use this thread more as a "say hi" kind of thread than just asking about what rom i should get. i dont think i accomplished that very well.
My advice is to just unlock bootloader, root and then run STOCK ROM. I have been running ROMS on phones here for a long time and for the first time on a phone think at this point the STOCK rom is the best and most stable. Next to it I would say Mikes AHRD is a great stable rom and that is always his goal. But try them all if you like. I would stay STOCK>
Now I know someone made a thread and closed it due to not the largest response but I am highly interested it the multitask feature...I would even settle for the whole lg optimus g ROM..and don't get why we don't have the ROM yet and the lack of interest...
Anyway we can get someone to port this?? It would be great and once made I'm sure it will be a hit thanks!!!
Well the main reason is those that buy nexus do so because of the pure android look with no extra skins added. If they wanted skinned android they would have got another phone

i didn't close it due to the lack of response - i requested that it be closed because of the rudeness of a couple responses. i am still quite interested in this topic.
I get that but custom Roms are still being made I'm pretty sure I was just reading on a touch wiz one!? Either way it be nice to have the multitasking feature whether just the feature or the ROM dumped..
Well I'm no where near as talented as a grand majority of the people here I can do average things like following directions to root n put a ROM on but that's as far as I can go have no clue how to port a ROM from another phone or take a feature from one and make it compatible on the other but if I did....it would be a no brainer I'd be all over it.....
There doesn't seem to be more than one or two roms for the verizon n2 so I have to ask a somewhat silly question- is there a way to port or use roms posted here? I came from the S3 and there are tons there but was shocked to find low support for the n2 until I saw the many roms in this forum. Of course it was impossible to mix carriers on the S3, so are these roms strictly for the ww version or what?
No not a boot loop, this is really a question to devs in disguise.
So as a general question is S4 new development kinda dead atm?
It seems with the release of the S5 development was stirred up to make the S4 even more like the S5 than it already was, like ultra power saving mode app, crappy settings (in my op), better icons, a toolbox and stuff. But it seems that development has slowed a tad in the realm of new Roms, with new features. Have we hit a limit in how far we can go?
Please take this with no disrespect, i love all of your roms. I'm simply a crack-flasher and always come back looking for something new and for the last couple of months the same roms have been on the front page, throughout here and the international version.
I mean other than the "nexus experience" or basically another AOSP rom that flys of the front page in a day.
Again no disrespect at all! just wondering if there are any other new roms coming soon with some new stuff to play with, its what i doo.
actually testing the colorOS rom atm >.> from a different section

Are you referring to touchwiz or aosp? I'm guessing touchwiz. If so, making touchwiz ROMs call for a lot of reverse engineering. Which is more of a pain then working with source code. Especially anything to do with smali. Because smali isn't even an actual programming code like java, C, C++ ect.
