TWRP loaded still bootlooping - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I am leaving the original post below so people can see it. I corrected the issue with some great help from people here! Thank you. The radio (1.09.01.0622) was bad. I flashed a new one and all is good.
I do have one more question. I need to root now. I tried to flash an su zip through TWRP and it failed. The Incredible 2 is on 2.3.3 (used tacoroot to downgrade from 2.3.4 and revolutionary) with TWRP 2.3.3 installed.
What is the best way for me to go about rooting? After root I assume I'll use the same method through TWRP to flash a custom rom (probably a Cyanogenmod). Am I correct in my thinking?
Thank you in advance!!!!
Original post:
I am helping a friend with his HTC Incredible 2. Helping may not be the best choice of words.
Long story short --- he was on android 2.3.4 and wanted to root. He called me.
I used Tacoroot to downgrade to 2.3.3 and the Revolutionary (windows version) to obtain Beta Key and installed CWM.
Apparently this method does not properly install CWM and I have a bootloop when I try to power on the phone. I wish that would have come to my attention sooner.
I finally was able to flash (command prompt) TWRP. I used the image file marked 2.3.3.0 because that matches the android version of the phone. I am not sure if that matters.
Still ... I can get into TWRP. However, the bootloop still persists. I think I need to flash something using TWRP, but I am not sure.
What next? He is ok with flashing a custom rom. Is that what needs to be done? Can I flash the stock rom again? Does it matter which?
Any help is appreciated!

Also, In the (white screen) HBoot recovery screen a quick script is run in bootloader saying something along the lines of no image or wrong image.

With wonderful advice form people here I flashed a new radio through hboot and the bootloop is gone!!! I have updated the original post with one last question about TWRP and root. Thank you very much for your help!

[Q] Unbranded ROM for HOX

Hi,
Just followed bagocrap24's excellent step-by-step guide for unlocking the bootloader on the One X and am about to install Clockworkmod Touch Recovery 5.8.2.7.
I'm on branded T-Mobile ROM at the moment (v.1.26.110.5). I have downloaded this ROM posted by rogersnm here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25310993&postcount=518
Once I've got the CWM recovery installed, is it a simple case of installing the stock 1.28 ROM or have I missed something? There seems to be so much information spread across so many threads, I don't know what I need to know and what I don't, if that makes sense.
I really don't want to screw up my phone, and would just like to be running stock v1.28 ROM.
Thanks for your help folks.
Hello there,
I flashed the InsertCoin ROM, it works very well and stock 1.28 with tweak options up to your choice!
Download the Rom.zip, copy the boot.img from within the download and put it in the same folder where u have the fsstboit and cwm files according to the noon guide u just followed, copy the zip of the ROM to the root of your HOX storage...
Power down the HOX and boot into hboot, select fastboot, connect your HOX, open a cms window on your computer type in
cd c:\fastboot
then
fastboot flash boot boot.img
You can flash first the zip from within cwm and then the boot.img as you have only your (backed up in cwm) shipped Rom on it, right? Take good care of the backup....
So, put the zip on HOX, boot into cwm, choose zip, install zip follow on screen guide, boot into hboot, select fastboot, do the cmd as above, re-boot and you good to go!
Be aware to not let the battery drain as in OFF mode it won't charge for the time being...
Let me know how you got on...happy flashing

Thanks for your reply. I've updated to the latest CWM Recovery and am now just looking for a stock, unbranded HTC 1.28 ROM.
I'm weird in that I actually like 'Sense', I'd just like to be rid of the T-Mobile crap they shoe-horned in (for no apparent reason or benefit). Would be nice to be network-unlocked too.
Is there a stock HTC 1.28 RUU for download yet?
Edit:
Am I being dim? Further reading suggests I may need to be on stock recovery and locked bootloader to install RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.9_Radio_ 1.1204.103.14_release_256469_signed?
edited. CWM was updated. ;p
Updated again? I'm on 5.8.3.1 which seems to be the latest.
I'm still being dim. How do I remove the T-Mobile RUU (1.26.110.x) and flash 1.28.401.9 which I've downloaded?
Folks, I'm still a little confused as to what I need to do to get the unbranded ROM on my phone. Do I need to flash a stock recovery, re-lock the bootloader, wipe the phone and then install the unbranded ROM?
Many thanks, I just don't want to delete the ROM on my phone without knowing I've understood what I need to do next...
Edit: With stock recovery and relocked bootloader, attempting to enter recovery brings up the red triangle with the exclamation mark.
Anyone...? I was really hoping someone might be able to help me out.

Start by following the Everything HTC One X link in my signature and deciding what you want to do. Come back if you have further questions.
Thanks pdagenius, I've already read through that thread.
As I understand it, I have two options:
1) install a stock, unbranded HTC ROM. This requires a relocked bootloader and stock recovery. When I reset to stock recovery and relocked the bootloader, I couldn't get into the recovery to flash the unbranded ROM. I get the red triangle with the exclamation mark.
2) I can use a different ROM such as Android Revolution HD (which I like the look of as it looks stock). However, there seems to be conflicting information wrt to whether or not to flash new firmware (seems this isn't possible with S-ON?). Additionally, the boot.img link for download in the OP is broken.
As great a community as this is, I've found that often there is simply so much information out there that it's overwhelming, and difficult to find what I need to know and what I don't need to worry about. I think to think I have a little savvy about me but tbh it's a little bit 'information overload'.
With the phone being so new, I really can't afford to brick it....
OK, I've gone with ARHD now..
Thanks to those who offered advice, this thread can now be closed.

[Q] Screwed up (red triangle)

Looks like tiredness has got the better of me and I screwed up my bootloader (I think).
I purchased a pre-rooted DHD, it was rooted through Advance Ace Hack Kit. I have 4ext installed as the recovery and have Ice cold sandwich flashed. I do have a nandroid backup of the rom.
Unfortunately I was running Advance Ace Hack Kit just to see what the options were as I was looking for installing an eng bootloader, unfortunately I selected option 1 by mistake and the software started running, phone rebooted a few times and now it's just stuck at the splash screen. I was in two minds to stop it mid-process but thought that might make things worse.
I also cannot access my 4ext recover, instead I get the red triangle and the htc recovery.
Damn, I'm annoyed with myself. I am tired and got momentarily distracted. I know one thing, if this can be fixed I won't be doing this again:crying:
Can this be brought back to life?
Ok, I have got myself out of this predicament by installing the stock wwe rom. Thankfully the phone rebooted, started up and the phone is back in business.
Of course I am still s-off, however I assume I am now unrooted.
Is there an easy option to root the device bearing in mind the phone is s-off? I want to root and flash cwm or 4ext.
Thanks.
Wht version of the Rom did u flash

In the "Ace Think Tank" thread (linked in my signature), post #7, there is a PDF that includes instructions on flashing a custom recovery from an S-OFF phone. Start from the bottom of page 9, the section labeled "S-OFF no custom recovery." After that, just flash a rooted ROM from the recovery.
Or, assuming you have a working ROM, you could look into SuperOneClick. I think it roots a ROM if the phone is S-OFF (however, I have never used it and can't speak to its reliability). Then you can just flash a recovery from an app like ROM Manager or 4ext Updater.
Finally, again assuming you have a working ROM, you could try flashing SuperSU from the zip here. Again, untested, but it has restored root on at least one occasion that I know of to an unrooted ROM.
Please note that I'm just throwing ideas around. If anyone knows that any of these methods doesn't work please say so.
Hello all,
Thanks for the replies.
I have the phone working, I installed the wwe htc sense rom that comes with 2.3.5 and sense 3.0. Pretty much my phone is factory reset, but at least it works now.
I lost root but do have s-off.
Use superoneclick. 2.3.3 it can easy root stock sense 3.0 when you are S-OFF which you are already.
1.First press temp root and wait for it to finish.
2.second root and wait for it to finish.
3.enjoy.
Got it sorted. I flashed a cwm recovery zip from an sdcard in bootloader. With cwm flashed, I could restore a nandroid backup. Back in business again.
If you want to unbrick your phone, you need to download an official RRU, or RUU or whatever it is that it is called. It is an EXE file that you download on your computer and run it. You can get it from HTC website, or google it. It's a stock setup of your phone. So you put the phone in red triangle mode, connect it to PC, and run the RRU file. It starts its magic and the phone will be back to stock with the sense and GB and everything. Use the Ace Hack Kit again to get it rooted and S-OFF if it isnt already and then install RoM as you want to.

Benefits of upgrading bootloader?

I am still running the .92 bootloader. I am running cm10.1. Is there any benefits to upgrading?

Only benefit is that you can unlock it, and are then able to fastbot flash recoveries and boot images.

I'm so thankful that cmlusco had these simple words listed here. I was trying without success to flash a recovery via hboot.92 to no avail. I am s-off and rooted running tinys cm10.1. The problem started when i wanted to use twrp as a recovery. I tried installing that in android itself with goomanager. It said it was successful so tried to reboot into recovery. no dice. it now doesn't even have cwm recovery which was what i was trying to replace. it just goes back into hboot. so i thought, "ok, i'll just adb it" again either with shell in android or via fastboot in hboot it says remote failed. this one line he just wrote tells me that despite everything i have, i cannot install via hboot. The only thing that works is having a pb31img file to install it. the problem is, most recoveries come in .img. so I thought i could just repackage it as a zip and use the txt from another twrp i had previously gotten to work by way of a pb31img and create my own new pb31img with the newest version (the old one i had was already made by someone else and installs flawlessly). basically now i'm curious if i should just ask how to make the newest twrp into a proper pb31img file to flash (since i know this works) or is there an easy way to upgrade hboot.092 to 1.07? Any help on either of these or both subjects would be greatly appreciated. Just for the record cmlusco, am i right in thinking the reason i can't fastboot flash my recovery is because my loader is locked somehow despite being rooted and s-off? will upgrading to hboot 1.07 enable all of what i want to do? Also, what's the best way to go about doing this? I have everything i need backed up so no worries there. Thanks in advance to any and all help!

You don't even need to go through all that trouble. Just use the PB31IMG.zip here:
PB31IMG.zip - 3.61 MB
It's also in the TWRP thread on one of the last few pages, TWRP 2.4.1.0.

Correct you can not fastboot flash unless your bootloader is unlocked. Since your s-off you can update the bootloader by flashing this file http://dinc.does-it.net/Hboots/Hboot_1.07/PB31IMG.zip, thru hboot. Once updated, you can unlock it and then flash img files with fastboot.
However, here is the TWRP 2.4.1.0 PB31IMG.zip http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/TWRP_2.4.1.0/PB31IMG.zip, if you dont want to update the bootloader. You may need to flash it two or three times to get it to take.

Thanks to you and tiny for such a quick and simple response. pb31img used and updated perfectly! Just curious, cmlusco, in your signature i noticed you on hboot 1.07 but it's locked. Any particular reason for having it locked? I have yet to update mine but i did download and organize the pb31 hboot img you gave me for possible future use ( if i feel the need). Other than the aformentioned advantage of flashing hboot via fasboot and adb, is there any other advantage of hboot 1.07? Thanks again guys, you make my life easier.

Not really, S-OFF should get you what you need. You only miss the ability to flash via fastboot without an unlocked HBOOT. PB31IMG.zip works fine with S-OFF.

[Q] Can't flash recovery with ADB, 'waiting for device'

My Desire was rooted before with a custom ROM. I've flashed back the original firmware, therefore the root was gone.
I followed the tutorial at this thread but I get stuck when I want to boot into recovery. The standard holding power and volume down procedure didn't work so I used ADB to boot into recovery. My device rebooted, but I get the red triangle and after that the 'Can't open /cache/recovery/command' error. I found out this means that the recovery isn't proparly installed.
When I use ADB to flash clockworkmod recovery Ithe message '< waiting for device >' remain standing. My Desire is in the HTC Sync modus, I see My HTC in windows device manager.
What is the next step to take? I've bricked an tablet before so I want to do the right thing.
Are you s-off? Also you use fastboot to flash the recovery, not adb.

Good point, I was forgotten all about s-off and on, it was a long time ago that I rooted my Desire.
I think I am not, beacause flashing the ROM of HTC also gives me a non-rooted phone. I'll check it this evening. Is using the tool from htcdev.com/bootloader the best way to become s-off?

No that will unlock your bootloader, not give you s off. Use revolutionary.
I found out I'm s-off, after I flashed clockworkmod recovery I used unrevoked to root. The rooting didn't succeed, I get the message 'failed to get root. Is your firmware to new?
I was on RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release, I have flashed an older stock ROM from the list on this page (1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984), and will try it again.

After you flashed recovery, there was no need to use unrevoked. All you had to do was boot into recovery and flash superuser.zip file. That would have rooted your existing rom.
However, what is your ultimate aim? If you want a ROM, you can simply flash the optimal hboot for the ROM (optional but recommended), boot into recovery, full wipe and flash the rom. The ROM will already be pre-rooted.

[Q] Problems with recovery and S-Off

To start off i have an htc one from verizon and i wanted to unlock the bootloader to run custom roms. I used Rumrunner to completely unlock my bootloader and get s-off. well here is where my first problem started, i could not get a custom recovery to flash on my device. Rom manager and Goomanager both said that no version available for my device. after trying multiple version of cwm and twrp i managed to finally get CWM to install on my device. i managed to backup all my data with CWM's device backup and when i tried to install a new rom i could not get it to install i would get an errror because supposedly it wasnt the rom for my device, i made sure it was and tried downloading another rom. After that not working i tried to update my CWM and it managed to remove the version i had and now i cant get into recovery again.
My second problem, along the lines of trying to get this to work, someone on the forums suggested that a person (who was having similar issues with the recovery) to try and adb command to see if the bootloader was actually unlocked, but after doing this it now changed me from S-off to S-on. and i dont want to run rumrunner again to get s-off again because it says on the rumrunner forum that you have to start that program from completely stock and i dont want to risk bricking my device. can anyone help me with either of these problems? any help would be appreciated.
