My phone got dropped into a very thick mud puddle and immediately retrieved. I have it in an otterbox defender and it seemed to stop any water/mud from getting into anything except top exposed speaker. Now I can hardly hear wile in a call. Phone works fine otherwise. I have insurance but am s off and don't want a refurb. Can I send to HTC and pay for repair out of pocket or am I stuck with insurance return?

S-off doesn't ruin your warranty. I'm not sure that mud in the speaker is covered by the warranty (I suppose you don't have to tell them the back story...as far as you know the speaker just quit working), but s-off shouldn't cause any issues. We've been talking about this in one of the camera repair issues. Just get on HTC live chat and see what they say about just repairing your phone and if it's covered.

I guess I am more concerned with how HTC will react if they open my phone and immediately see mud or water damage. Will they email me and let me pay for the repair or just send it back and bill me for the tecs time and shipping.

They'd email you and give you the option to pay for it or just have it sent back if they didn't like what they saw. I don't think they would bill you. After all, you don't know what caused the speaker to stop working

How long has it been? I've heard of this happening to S4 Actives/Sony Xperia Zs after exposure to water and after a week the speaker worked normal again. You could also try using vacuum suction to pull any loose particulates out of the grill by creating a tunnel with your hand from the vacuum to the speaker. I did that with my old galaxy that fell in the sink and it worked well.
It's been over a week. I will give it a try and see what happens.

I'm sending my phone back in exchange for a warranty replacement with T-Mobile and was wondering if they would take my phone back if the bezel was damaged. I'm not talking like hardcore damages, but just paint chip and a couple of nicks on the top left.

Liquid damage, cracked screen, or if the phone is in more than one piece. Other than that you're good to go.
So I've had the note 2 for over a month now. I don't have a screen protector or a case on. And I've dropped my phone twice and got some Nick around the side. So I ordered a case on eBay, seller is from China and of course I'm still waiting for the case to arrive. Today I dropped my phone right on my concrete drive way. ..and the screen is cracked

Man that sucks . Hope you had insurance. Once I saw glass was corner to corner on this device I didn't even really touch it till my case arrived. Sorry your phone broke.
I'm on tmobile prepaid 4g plan and I got the phone out rightso no warranty for me. But at least the crack is at the top right hand corner and not in the middle.

I never needed a case for my vibrant, dropped it more times than I can remember. No cracks but lots of dings and body scars. But this phone being as heavy as it is, is different. you NEED a case for it. Luckily the op's glass shatter didn't cover the camera so yeah, you got lucky man.

you can get insurance on pre-paid.
when i was working at the store, i would not let somebody leave unless they had insurance or a case. this is exactly why. you drop something made of glass, it will likely break. until that flex composite screen is implemented on these devices, well, good luck and cross your fingers if you drop one of these things.
OP, sucks man. sorry to hear that. i have been lucky thus far and dropped many of my devices without cracking a screen. had a case on my s3, and my note II simply because they are bigger, weigh more, and therefore will hit the ground with more force.
get a case, and be careful
Bought a otterbox defender case . Dropped phone a few times since and everything is ok. Makes your heart drop to watch it bounce though.

Water has damaged ONLY my power button. It went from working to only working when held down to not working except for every 100th press or so. Is the internal power button separated from the board or what? Can this be fixed easily or am I gonna have to invest in a new phone.

You can try taking it apart and make sure everything is still connected and make sure it's not wet inside I did it with a ZTE warp I had and it worked for me just be real carefull
Sent from my LG-E980 using xda app-developers app
Try visiting service center if its not so wet. May be you can still claim warranty. Best of luck if you want to take risk on opening. Be very careful. Also you will get power button after dis assembly of mobile.
Be very careful.
Service center? ATT? Thought I had to file under insurance and drop 200 bucks,

Just hope the Warrently/AT&T Does NOT see it if it did get wet enough, Yea theres a water mark behind the battery door near the camera..
If they find any water damage they charge you full retail for the phone and keep your old one so your basically buying the phone they sent you.
I don't see it on mine. What color would it be if it got water on it and what color if it didn't?

When Taking off your Battery back of the phone you see the camera, Look to the right of it its between the camera and the flash a little dot, It should be White, If its red then its gotten wet.
Rock on, its white. When it got wet I didn't notice til the next day. When I took the battery off the underside of the battery was soaked. The inside lense of the camera has water drops all in it. I couldn't even take a picture because it just looked like a blur. Somehow the water missed that. I left it in rice for a good 10hrs total. U think it got all the water out? Got another suggestion to be safe so ATT doesn't charge me 579 bucks?

I would had told that AT&T rep off if they told me that lol. The Phone is only $439 before tax to buy it outright has been for over a month now. lol
Well they are internal Wet indicators, It is taking a risk doing warranty though but you never know til it happens sadly.
Has anyone else noticed any sort of scratch or crack in the back of their watches by the area where the plastic back meets the strap? I haven't exposed the watch to any force or stress (no, I haven't tried to replaced the band) so I'm wondering how the hell I have that big crack all of the sudden. It doesn't affect functionality or charging and it doesn't hurt my skin as it isn't raised but I'm just concerned about the durability of the back and if the band is putting some sort of pressure on it while being worn. I tweeted the photo to motorola and they asked me to email their support department as they want to look into it.
I can't attach the photo as it is too big so a link would do. This was taken yesterday and today I just noticed two tiny cracks in the bottom part where the plastic back meets the edge of the band.

If you're having a similar issue, it'd be helpful to tweet at motorola so they can look into it and perhaps send us a replacement.

Link has been updated with a working one.
There shouldn't be any tension from the straps on the back of the device. I have yet to witness any crack on any part of my watch even though it has had some rough dealings within the first week itself. The durability of this watch is quite amazing! I sweat in it every day after school due to sports and it dries the leather strap very quickly and I have also banged it against some hard surfaces including splintered wood and no scratches/cracks yet. So my conclusion is: there is no stress applied by the band at all and your case should be a factory shipping problem which you can get replaced.
I already have a light scratch on my black one. It was from bumping into a door with my wrist.

So you broke it putting on a watchband and they are replacing it? Pretty generous of them.
Just got off the phone with Motorola. They said it would be $100 to get a replacement due to physical damage. Not sure what else I can do. I guess I'll sell it locally.

That's ridiculous! I tweeted at them again and sent a follow up email because I got two more cracks at the bottom of the device and they are getting bigger each day. This is definitely a manufacturing defect as I have only wore it like any other watch. In fact, I've been babying the thing and been very careful about not to accidentally hit it or drop it.
Where did you get yours from? I'm thinking about just going to best buy for an exchange

Are these cracks appearing upon initial inspection/first couple of days?
Or are these cracks in watches worn for weeks
Running Liquidsmooth rom 4.4,with 4.3 bootloader for past month it was doing great. Now all of a sudden I get no sound from earpiece speaker during calls. Using bluetooth, earbuds, and external work fine just the earpiece speaker has no sound when you hold the phone to your head. I have looked for multiple solutions already. Would upgrading the bootloader or to a 4.4 modem fix it? Don't know if a few rain drops damaged it somehow or if I dropped it would it kill the speaker that easily since I have kept it in a body glove case since day one. Can get a $40 replacement at a shop but trying to see if I can fix it myself before I waste money doing that if possible. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

My note 3 just started having the same problem. Everything else works fine i just get no sound from the earpiece at all but the headphone jack works fine. I opened the phone up and the earpiece and headphone jack are connected. It would be fairly easy to replace. I don't want to waste time and money replacing it if it's a software issue.

Couldn't find a solution either. So I ordered a replacement earpiece speaker from ebay for $8. Repair shop wanted $40 to fix it. Hopefully I can fix it myself with the new piece if not guess I will have to send it in to Tmobile and pay the $175 deductible for a replacement phone. Really hoping it doesn't come to that though. If you find a fix please post it. Thanks

Issue solved turns out my flex cable was ripped that connects the earpiece to to headphone jack. Got new piece today replaced it and now I have volume for incoming and outgoing calls again. $8 fixed it myself.

Awesome, glad you got it working. I guess I'll order the eBay part as well. Most likely my speaker went out for some reason.
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Free mobile app
If you ever dropped it like I have then most likely to flex cable is torn. Mine was ripped completely in two. I have always kept my phone in a case but have dropped it a few times on the concrete so I know mostly that's what cause the ripped flex cable. Hope you resolve your situation as well.
