No Sound During Calls!!!! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Running Liquidsmooth rom 4.4,with 4.3 bootloader for past month it was doing great. Now all of a sudden I get no sound from earpiece speaker during calls. Using bluetooth, earbuds, and external work fine just the earpiece speaker has no sound when you hold the phone to your head. I have looked for multiple solutions already. Would upgrading the bootloader or to a 4.4 modem fix it? Don't know if a few rain drops damaged it somehow or if I dropped it would it kill the speaker that easily since I have kept it in a body glove case since day one. Can get a $40 replacement at a shop but trying to see if I can fix it myself before I waste money doing that if possible. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

My note 3 just started having the same problem. Everything else works fine i just get no sound from the earpiece at all but the headphone jack works fine. I opened the phone up and the earpiece and headphone jack are connected. It would be fairly easy to replace. I don't want to waste time and money replacing it if it's a software issue.

Couldn't find a solution either. So I ordered a replacement earpiece speaker from ebay for $8. Repair shop wanted $40 to fix it. Hopefully I can fix it myself with the new piece if not guess I will have to send it in to Tmobile and pay the $175 deductible for a replacement phone. Really hoping it doesn't come to that though. If you find a fix please post it. Thanks

Issue solved turns out my flex cable was ripped that connects the earpiece to to headphone jack. Got new piece today replaced it and now I have volume for incoming and outgoing calls again. $8 fixed it myself.

Awesome, glad you got it working. I guess I'll order the eBay part as well. Most likely my speaker went out for some reason.

If you ever dropped it like I have then most likely to flex cable is torn. Mine was ripped completely in two. I have always kept my phone in a case but have dropped it a few times on the concrete so I know mostly that's what cause the ripped flex cable. Hope you resolve your situation as well.

If you are using a custom kernel try switching back to the stock kernel for awhile and see if it goes away. I've noticed some songs with heavy bass lines will distort when using a kernel with the audio level tweaked.
I almost broke a pair of hundred dollar blue tooth headphones because I thought they were busted only to find out it sounded the same on a pair of regular headphone that I knew were good
If u have insurance on ur phone u can take it to Sprint and they will replace it free. Even if ur rooted. Also if u don't have insurance its 35 bucks
Ignorance is bliss but servitude is its partner
Be careful having your phone around any kind of metal machining/grinding work. The magnet in the speaker will attract any metal dust/particles nearby and the holes in the battery cover and mesh over the speaker opening are too big to stop the smaller stuff. I'm on my third back speaker because of this. Luckily they're easy to change and the place I ordered from sells a minimum quantity of 5 per order.

Pretty sure it was a sarcastic joke. If both your phone and your friends phone sound bad, more than likely it isn't a physical problem with the speaker, and if you aren't running the exact same custom kernel, that probably isn't the issue either.
If they speaker never sounded good to you, it is simply that you are just noticing that the 1/2" cell phone speaker sounds like a dog turd, which is sadly to be expected.
The EVO speaker is one of the best phone speakers I have ever heard, most are smaller and even more tinny sounding.
Went to sprint about my speakers and they are giving Me a new one for free......

Messed up head phone jack

My headphone jack is starting to mess up
It sounds fine regularly but since I like my music sounding as good as I can make it I use an equalizer (the one in the stock music app) and I also use the bass boost music effect and then the music starts t crackle a lot (it didn't before) I also tried 5.1 just to check and that completely butchers the music now
I tried 2 pairs of good headphones and its like this on both so I concluded its a problem with my head phone jack.
Do I just clean the jack?
If so how?
I already tried blowing air into it
If all else doesn't work I have to take it to a sprint store right?
Since I don't have insurance how much will it cost me?

It would cost 35 at a store. It's a pretty routine repair, the headphone jack is part of an assembly with the vibrator module, so long as they have harvested parts in stock.
I doubt cleaning will do much good, if you look in there and there's nothing there, that's all there is to clean.

Well time to drop $35

Weird issue with headphone jack

So I just tried to use my headphones with the headphone jack. I tried two different pairs, one with an inline mic and one without. Both of them work, they just feel like they will slide out of the jack with no effort, and actually do come out with a slight tug on the cord.
Is this an issue or is it normal? If its an issue, I just got the phone today, would this be covered under a warranty of some sort? (Its the blue variant)

Edit.
Misread ok if you feel they are to lose then take it back. If you have to tug on them they should be fine. I would guess they would have to be kinda easy to pull out so not to cause damage to the connector

Normal. The One headphone jack doesn't have the "grip" that a lot of other phones have. My friend said the same thing, he thought his was defective.

Honestly, I have not noticed mine being any more loose than any other devices I use

I called and spoke with HTC and the rep recommended that I take it back since the phone is only 5 days old. Walked into Best Buy, explained what happened, 30 minutes later, I'm on my way with a properly functioning One.

Yeah, mines about the same as my Rezound.

Dropped my note now my microphone doesnt work.

So I dropped my phone now I have no mic. What it looks like to me is that your usb charging and mic are the same board. I can still charge so my board must be good. But I have speaker phone and people can still hear me. When I turn speaker phone off, no one can hear me. Could I just buy a mic module and slap that bad boy on?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Easy fix, use Bluetooth earpiece. Lol
Or you can get technical and go inside and change your board that contains the Mic portion!! :banghead:

I'm definitely not shy about opening my phone. I'm just confused, if its a single mic module how the speaker phone works but not when off. So I'm curiois if there is a seperate mic for speaker and just talk?

What are my options?

My phone got dropped into a very thick mud puddle and immediately retrieved. I have it in an otterbox defender and it seemed to stop any water/mud from getting into anything except top exposed speaker. Now I can hardly hear wile in a call. Phone works fine otherwise. I have insurance but am s off and don't want a refurb. Can I send to HTC and pay for repair out of pocket or am I stuck with insurance return?

S-off doesn't ruin your warranty. I'm not sure that mud in the speaker is covered by the warranty (I suppose you don't have to tell them the back story...as far as you know the speaker just quit working), but s-off shouldn't cause any issues. We've been talking about this in one of the camera repair issues. Just get on HTC live chat and see what they say about just repairing your phone and if it's covered.

I guess I am more concerned with how HTC will react if they open my phone and immediately see mud or water damage. Will they email me and let me pay for the repair or just send it back and bill me for the tecs time and shipping.

They'd email you and give you the option to pay for it or just have it sent back if they didn't like what they saw. I don't think they would bill you. After all, you don't know what caused the speaker to stop working

How long has it been? I've heard of this happening to S4 Actives/Sony Xperia Zs after exposure to water and after a week the speaker worked normal again. You could also try using vacuum suction to pull any loose particulates out of the grill by creating a tunnel with your hand from the vacuum to the speaker. I did that with my old galaxy that fell in the sink and it worked well.
It's been over a week. I will give it a try and see what happens.
