Sending phone back to T-Mobile. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I'm sending my phone back in exchange for a warranty replacement with T-Mobile and was wondering if they would take my phone back if the bezel was damaged. I'm not talking like hardcore damages, but just paint chip and a couple of nicks on the top left.

That's fine

Exactly what kind of damage would they not accept?

Liquid damage, cracked screen, or if the phone is in more than one piece. Other than that you're good to go.

[Q] water indicator SG2

Does anyone know if there is more then 1 water indicator on our SG2? And if so where? Can Tmobile actually open the phone apart and see if there was water damage to the phone besides looking at the water mark(s)?

Are you asking for help in defrauding T-Mobile with an insurance claim? Or is this a theoretical situation that never happened?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Probably the former.
No, t-mobile isn't going to open it.
Samsung will and they'll probably tell t-mobile what happened.

theoretical. so is there only 1 water mark?
There is the one under the battery which tmobile will check out. There are internal water detectors i believe that the manufacturer should check out if lets say you send it to samsung instead of tmobile. Not quite sure how thorough tmobile is as far as that goes. Better safe that sorry though. I like how people jump to the conclusion that by asking a question they are trying to scam t-mobile. LOL

Very unlikely although it is possible. It would be hard for them to say for certain that any discoloration on labels or anything was caused from liquid. 99% of the components inside the phone cannot be damaged by water unless there is power applied while wet. It the liquid acting as a conductor and shorting pins together that ruins the phone. That is why if you dry a phone well no damage occurs.
We wash all our circuit boards in a dishwasher and dry them before final test, to remove flux and resin, you cain't tell when they are dry that they have been washed.
how about if someone was selling me a phone and i wanted to make sure it was not water damage just because they change the water mark indicator behind the battery?! I have bought other phones then realized it was water damage when i tried to get warranty to cover it (iphone) pretty much got screwed over.
I wanted to know the very same thing when Telus gave me back my phone unrepaired saying that there was water-damage. I was angry because I had never wet the phone and the external indicators were clean.
I yelled and complained and the crappy shop they sent it to sent back photos of my phone's board. They circled some dirt/salt or something, but there were no internal indicators that I saw. When I contacted Samsung directly they fixed it for me and apologized for the 'confusion'.
If your external indicators are clean, then you can always argue that this proves you used your phone properly and normally (and kept it out of water). If internal indicators show liquid, its evidence of some kind of defect that the phone is unable to vent the humidity or something. I think this would stand in small claims court.

Yea but xda allows talk about hot spot work around, but it's against rules to talk about how change things to fraud Tmobile. Like water indicator, or black listed work around.

By your logic, OP is payed for the phone , he should be covered no matter what. Or he payed for insurance and should be covered even if the phone was dropped in a toilet.
and anyways, maybe he's buying a used phone and wants to check if its damaged. Cant just assume fraud
Either way, its best not to submit a claim if there has been any damage to the device. The fee can get a little large, usually more than the php claim

Screen scratched with protector on

I had a screen protector on since day one. Yesterday I went to replace it and when I took it off my screen had about 5 scratches on it... Gorilla glass and screen protector, and still doesn't help lol smh
Anyone else have this happen?

I hope not, I always take of my phones, have an invisibleshield on this bad boy, if I get a scratch I'll be pissed!

I dropped mine from about 5 feet in the air onto solid concrete. It landed directly on the back side (battery cover) and hardly marked my back casing and nothing happened to the phone at all.
No screen protector or case.

No, it cracked from about a 6 inch slide. That's the worst part about it. There's not a single mark on my phone because it was in a case when it happened. I called Samsung and they have to evaluate whether the damage was caused by me or some sort of manufacturing defect. I'm almost positive they're gonna rule against me despite how ridiculous the circumstances were.

It was just some plastic case that Target (ironically) had on clearance. I kinda regret that decision...
It mostly depend on the point of impact. If you dropped it directly at it's corner, it'll most likely crack. And I feel the screen on this phone cracks way too easily. I've dropped it once on my bed. Luckily the screen didn't crack.
I have minor scratches on my screen from I have no clue what, I've had a case on it since day one and never lay my phone on its front only on the back and it has minor but noticeable scratches. Annoying and very weak GG

My back also has some nasty scratches but are only visible in direct sunlight its probably from setting it on tables and desks in class

Can I fix the scratches on my phone?

Bought my phone yesterday at BestBuy....I let my friend borrow it and she scrtched with her bag....a small scratch on the left side....ohhhhh myyy goossshhh I feel so horrible now....anyway to fix it?

The side where? On the screen, the front bezel, the battery cover?? If its on the case of the phone somewhere i suppose you could find replacement parts online and swap all the internals if you were so inclined. If the screen itself is scratched, other than some hair brained schemes like blow torches and sand paper i would say you are stuck with the scratch. The good news is a decent screen protector film should disguise anything other than a major disfiguring.

I had people bring back phones that had water damage. Half our managers would say take it back and the other half would think about it and then may or may not do it. If he just got it yesterday he could reason that it was too easy to scratch since it is supposed to have gorilla glass. I've returned more with less reason because the customer was nice.

You don't really have to do either one, but if you are trying to swap it in store I would, and you have to have a reason other than the scratch. If you are using GSBTP you need to break something on it so they'll send it off. If you use GSBTP you don't need to unroot because that doesn't matter.

Find a less clumsy friend.
Clumsy people can be a pain
would it be bad if you just swap it out saying you actually want the blue one but buy the screen protector to hide the scratch, and then a couple days later just go back and switch to a new white one saying you actually preferred the white one to the blue one?
Get Ghost Armor installed on it. It will fill in the scratch and protect it from now on.

Hardware help! Water damaged power button.

Water has damaged ONLY my power button. It went from working to only working when held down to not working except for every 100th press or so. Is the internal power button separated from the board or what? Can this be fixed easily or am I gonna have to invest in a new phone.

You can try taking it apart and make sure everything is still connected and make sure it's not wet inside I did it with a ZTE warp I had and it worked for me just be real carefull

Try visiting service center if its not so wet. May be you can still claim warranty. Best of luck if you want to take risk on opening. Be very careful. Also you will get power button after dis assembly of mobile.

If they find any water damage they charge you full retail for the phone and keep your old one so your basically buying the phone they sent you.

When Taking off your Battery back of the phone you see the camera, Look to the right of it its between the camera and the flash a little dot, It should be White, If its red then its gotten wet.
Rock on, its white. When it got wet I didn't notice til the next day. When I took the battery off the underside of the battery was soaked. The inside lense of the camera has water drops all in it. I couldn't even take a picture because it just looked like a blur. Somehow the water missed that. I left it in rice for a good 10hrs total. U think it got all the water out? Got another suggestion to be safe so ATT doesn't charge me 579 bucks?

Well they are internal Wet indicators, It is taking a risk doing warranty though but you never know til it happens sadly.

What are my options?

My phone got dropped into a very thick mud puddle and immediately retrieved. I have it in an otterbox defender and it seemed to stop any water/mud from getting into anything except top exposed speaker. Now I can hardly hear wile in a call. Phone works fine otherwise. I have insurance but am s off and don't want a refurb. Can I send to HTC and pay for repair out of pocket or am I stuck with insurance return?

S-off doesn't ruin your warranty. I'm not sure that mud in the speaker is covered by the warranty (I suppose you don't have to tell them the back story...as far as you know the speaker just quit working), but s-off shouldn't cause any issues. We've been talking about this in one of the camera repair issues. Just get on HTC live chat and see what they say about just repairing your phone and if it's covered.

I guess I am more concerned with how HTC will react if they open my phone and immediately see mud or water damage. Will they email me and let me pay for the repair or just send it back and bill me for the tecs time and shipping.

They'd email you and give you the option to pay for it or just have it sent back if they didn't like what they saw. I don't think they would bill you. After all, you don't know what caused the speaker to stop working
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
How long has it been? I've heard of this happening to S4 Actives/Sony Xperia Zs after exposure to water and after a week the speaker worked normal again. You could also try using vacuum suction to pull any loose particulates out of the grill by creating a tunnel with your hand from the vacuum to the speaker. I did that with my old galaxy that fell in the sink and it worked well.
It's been over a week. I will give it a try and see what happens.
