[Q] water indicator SG2 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Does anyone know if there is more then 1 water indicator on our SG2? And if so where? Can Tmobile actually open the phone apart and see if there was water damage to the phone besides looking at the water mark(s)?

Are you asking for help in defrauding T-Mobile with an insurance claim? Or is this a theoretical situation that never happened?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

Probably the former.
No, t-mobile isn't going to open it.
Samsung will and they'll probably tell t-mobile what happened.

theoretical. so is there only 1 water mark?

There is the one under the battery which tmobile will check out. There are internal water detectors i believe that the manufacturer should check out if lets say you send it to samsung instead of tmobile. Not quite sure how thorough tmobile is as far as that goes. Better safe that sorry though. I like how people jump to the conclusion that by asking a question they are trying to scam t-mobile. LOL

Very unlikely although it is possible. It would be hard for them to say for certain that any discoloration on labels or anything was caused from liquid. 99% of the components inside the phone cannot be damaged by water unless there is power applied while wet. It the liquid acting as a conductor and shorting pins together that ruins the phone. That is why if you dry a phone well no damage occurs.
We wash all our circuit boards in a dishwasher and dry them before final test, to remove flux and resin, you cain't tell when they are dry that they have been washed.

how about if someone was selling me a phone and i wanted to make sure it was not water damage just because they change the water mark indicator behind the battery?! I have bought other phones then realized it was water damage when i tried to get warranty to cover it (iphone) pretty much got screwed over.

I wanted to know the very same thing when Telus gave me back my phone unrepaired saying that there was water-damage. I was angry because I had never wet the phone and the external indicators were clean.
I yelled and complained and the crappy shop they sent it to sent back photos of my phone's board. They circled some dirt/salt or something, but there were no internal indicators that I saw. When I contacted Samsung directly they fixed it for me and apologized for the 'confusion'.
If your external indicators are clean, then you can always argue that this proves you used your phone properly and normally (and kept it out of water). If internal indicators show liquid, its evidence of some kind of defect that the phone is unable to vent the humidity or something. I think this would stand in small claims court.

By your logic, OP is payed for the phone , he should be covered no matter what. Or he payed for insurance and should be covered even if the phone was dropped in a toilet.
and anyways, maybe he's buying a used phone and wants to check if its damaged. Cant just assume fraud

Either way, its best not to submit a claim if there has been any damage to the device. The fee can get a little large, usually more than the php claim

Red Dot On My Screen!

I dropped my phone yesterday and since then I see a small visible red dot on my screen! do u think i'll get this phone replaced from sprint?
no!........
Is there physical damage to the phone other than the dot? Assuming there is not, and no water damage, they would probably repair/replace if you don't mention it was from a fall.
It's bleeding, apply direct pressure!
Sent from some phone.
When I had the OG Epic I had a pixel go bad so there was one green dot continuously on my phone. It drove me nuts. It was only a week old. I took it to get exchanged and they told me that there had to be 5 dead pixels for it to be eligible for exchange. I had to do some light negotiations saying I bought 3 lines, insurance on all, accessories, etc all from the Sprint store and they finally swapped it for a new one.

It was a question. It is allowed to ask a question. Op isn't trying to fraud sprint. Besides why have protection that covers a fall if you can't drop it. Op take it in or get an app that helps stuck pixels.

i believe that there is another sticker inside the phone somewhere, so t-mobile will open it and check for water damage just in case you wanted to send it back to them. Ive read it on a thread here before if i can find it ill post a link..

Can I fix the scratches on my phone?

The side where? On the screen, the front bezel, the battery cover?? If its on the case of the phone somewhere i suppose you could find replacement parts online and swap all the internals if you were so inclined. If the screen itself is scratched, other than some hair brained schemes like blow torches and sand paper i would say you are stuck with the scratch. The good news is a decent screen protector film should disguise anything other than a major disfiguring.

I had people bring back phones that had water damage. Half our managers would say take it back and the other half would think about it and then may or may not do it. If he just got it yesterday he could reason that it was too easy to scratch since it is supposed to have gorilla glass. I've returned more with less reason because the customer was nice.

You don't really have to do either one, but if you are trying to swap it in store I would, and you have to have a reason other than the scratch. If you are using GSBTP you need to break something on it so they'll send it off. If you use GSBTP you don't need to unroot because that doesn't matter.

would it be bad if you just swap it out saying you actually want the blue one but buy the screen protector to hide the scratch, and then a couple days later just go back and switch to a new white one saying you actually preferred the white one to the blue one?

PSA: Possible recall of S4's

Reposted from the AT&T S4 forum:
dkirchik said:
I just found out at work while on a Samsung technician training the galaxy as 4's are possibly going to be recalled. The frame of the phone is to weak and flex's easy resulting in the screen cracking down the middle. Samsung is determining how many they've sold and what the cost would be. Depending on the cost they'd either issue a recall or replace the phone when it breaks for that reason.
Just letting the community know.

What ever happened to quality assurance testing?! Wouldn't expect this from a company as big as Samsung. Unacceptable.
If this is true, the only solution should be a recall which allows for a brand new phone. What does it mean to fix it when it happens? Send the phone into them and wait a week for them to refurbish the phone? Their mistake, they should take the short end of the stick.

Sounds like a load of TROLL crap from whoever originally posted it.
yea don't the robot butt jeans sit on these phones?
Someone on the att thread made a good point. It wont be recalled because its not safety related, just build quality related. So most likely whats gonna happen is that they will send you a new phone (or refubished more likely) to replace your damaged one.

I don't believe this either but i'm curious to find out if it's true. my screen developed a hairline crack across the middle within a week. never dropped it, never sat on it, never squeezed it, nothing. and Tmobile has been giving me hell because they say it's accidental damage and there's nothing they can do. if i want it fixed i'll have to pay.
Ooh fun thread. Wait, let me get my shovel...
How strong would a plastic frame be anyhow? I like plastic phones because they're lite. But they're not bomb proof. Nevertheless, I trust Samsung would know by now how to make a plastic phone.
Btw, did anyone see the MKBHD vid when he flexes the S4 next to the microphone? I don't think the screen cracked.
that's my concern as well. They made the phone both thinner AND lighter, but i think they overdid it. There's no need for the phone to be this thin. Not when you sacrifice durability to achieve it. when the phone is this thin, and the chassis is made of soft plastic, the screen becomes the most rigid part of the device. and screen with class that's about as thick as a sheet of paper. and to answer your question, no, samsung DOES NOT know how to make a plastic phone. For that, see any modern Lumia phone by NOKIA...

I agree with you. It will be terrible for samsung.
Generally, electronics only get recalled for major safety issues. There is the possibility of a warranty extension, but unless S4s start bursting into flames or giving people cancer there will never be a recall.

So now we got two confirmations. Maybe we can get LG to confirm it as well? Can someone record a video of it under running water or inside a pool? If this is true, this is an amazing news and should've been a feature called out by LG against Samsung.

There's a water damage sticker clearly present on the side of the battery area. I highly doubt they made it a hidden feature. It may do well to protect itself, but i still don't trust it in water until there's more evidence of it not being harmful.

I kinda like that they didn't mention it. People won't be idiots with their phones, but if something does go crashingly wrong there's protection in place. I really do wonder how many people have been downright stupid with their S5's because of commercials showing them being dropped in the ocean and whatnot.
My case keeps it waterproof, so I am good to go.... I think, lol!
I used mine in a rain storm the other day with no concern or issue. I've done that with all my phones, camera, tablets, etc though and never have had an issue in my life.
