Just wondering if any xda developers would be willing to do and Android port to the samsung wave if a bounty was available for it?
The Wave and Wave II have almost identical hardware however the Wave II has a 3.7 SLCD (vs the Wave I's 3.3 SAMOLED although they both have the same resolution)
And both devices are very similar in terms of hardware to the rest of the Samsung galaxy family.
So any one interested?
and could this be done on wave s525 too ?
Possible, but the device is quite low end hardware and the OS is lightweight enough to work on it.
There's a thread over at Samsung Wave Forums. I believe they're working on it, but at the moment it is not available.
There is supposedly some Bada Wave Project over on Samsung Wave forums however they are asking for money and have yet to show results and it doesn't sound like anything real is happening. If a real Android port were to happen it would have to come from some of the talent here at XDA.
I have been watching the guy, hes not capable of doing it, i am almost certain of it. I have not seen one iota of proof that he has the first notion where to start.
We would be willing to start up a bounty and collect money for somebody here to actually get a working port. I am all for expanding Bada but having out options open is always nice.
Also some people may also be willing to donate a Wave (some people i have come across have 2 or 3 for some reason)
i hope we would have custom ROMS for our wave soon
I can See Custom ROM's coming to Bada soon, but an Android Port, due to Low End Hardware as stated above wouldn't be the easiest of tasks, It's not porting Froyo from HTC Desire HD to HTC HD2 ( which are like dramaticly twin hardwares ) ... if a port it is to be done, they would have a Kernel that fits the Resources need to the decide and thn it would have to be Hard Coded... and seriously, that's not something to be done by our Fine Xda Geniuses but by Multi Millionaire companies ( such as samsung lol ), it would be just too much work, but custom ROM completely doable since an SDK is already out there
Just my opinion
Ok thats sounds reasonable, i think you may be right any way. I look forward to seeing what enhancements are made to bada over the coming months.

I can't understand how you are telling that the Wave s8500 & Wave II s8530 have low-end hardware.
1 ghz. processor with 512 MB RAM. How could be that low-end ?
Its hardware is much powerful than the Galaxy 3 & Optimus One.
I'm sure that Android can be ported on it & no it won't require some big corporation to do that. Android is open source for anyone to modify & use.
I didn't get to understand either, as far as I remember, Samsung Wave has the same processor as iPhone4, same graphics as Galaxy S (and better than iPhone4, like we all know) and 512MB of RAM memory... =P
I like android..
But,bada is very cool
have read it many a times..but i dont know what it is..
can anyone tell what is "custom ROMS" exactly??
there is the Wave 2 and Wave 2 pro as well the Wave 725 which are different than the Wave and Wave II, They could handle an Android Port but it would be a little slow id imagine, (although considering the sheer speed of my G1 maybe not) The Wave and Wave II could definitely handle and Android port.

Custom roms is like a whole new bunch of settings and looks of ur os.. Same os but with more optimizations and different UI and stuff

Even the Samsung Galaxy Spica managed to run Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), why wouldn't our Waves run it?
We 'just' need to find a way to replace Wave's bootloader with a different one, which is the most difficult part of porting Android to Wave, and then everything's gonna be possible !
Yeah if we where to figure out how exactally to get the boot loader on the wave out of the picture then we would have no problem porting android, heck i have the spec sheet here i could have a working build done up in a day from source!
Clockworkmod wanna give this a try for a free wave and some money??
clearly there is more demand for android on wave than anything else.....looking at the number of replies and stuff......
Android has already been ported to devices running other os like iPhone (iOS), HTC HD2 (WM 6.1) & Nokia N900 (Maemo). So I am pretty sure that it cam be ported to Wave too.
I can clearly see the lack of interest in the developers.
There are more users of Wave than that of N900, so why shouldn't it be ported to Wave ?
i think its just the ppl from badafroums that are participating in this.. where are other ppl??
I love my defy, especially now with jelly bean CM10.
However acro s has just been released and it looks to offer the toughness of defy with a high end phone and camera.
Do you think it's with spending the money on or should I hold onto my defy for another year??

get the Xperia Acro S if :
1> the entirety of the design greatly appeals to you (it did on me)
2> you find the built - water-resistant and shock resistant - has some good use according to your lifestyle
3> the price range is acceptable
4>you're a big fan of Xperia (a "stick to it no matter what" kind of fan)
5>OS development and modding is not that important
but, consider looking somewhere else if :
1>OS upgrade, flashing, openness and OS development is important to you(you're better off getting Samsung or HTC)
2>you value the online community support structure (you're better off getting Samsung or HTC)
3>you want those OS development delivered on a timely manner (you're better off getting Samsung or HTC) either official or the XDA way.
there you go, i hope these somehow help you make the right choice.
Thanks for the good advice.
For me there is a conflict. I need water resistance for use outdoors but have also enjoyed the roms, mods and tweaking. The defy was the best of both worlds. I don't think it's stayed on the same rom for more than a few weeks!. I've had it for almost two years now.
I don't know why Motorola haven't bought out a defy 2. Bigger screen, better camera etc. instead there's defy +, defy mini, defy XT, all of which are pretty much the same and not worth upgrading from defy.
I'm contemplating buying a galaxy nexus as an indoor phone and keeping my defy as my outdoor media and GPS. However the acro s looked like it would let me have just the one phone.
I'll wait I think for a month or so until there's good reviews of acro s out. Acro s is priced just above galaxy s3 here in new Zealand but only just released so will prob drop in price quick.
Apologies for long post.

Do you know what carrier it will be for? I live in America and i can only get Tmobile phones. I need a tough phone like the defy, everyday, but i want something more powerful like the acro s. The only other phone thats powerful from tmobile here is the galaxy s3 which my girlfriend has but she has to charge it 3 times a day and i think i would break it in a month on accident. Thanks.

i think devs on XPERIA device is not bad..
FXP team did a good job, and ORGANIZED, yes organized to did their job.
they port CM to all 2011 Xperia device (yes, CM10 included).
my friend using Xperia Live and Xperia Neo, got a nice real smoooooth CM.
and developing atmoshpere there on both device is hot, not dead..
as long as kernel is unlocked, there's always a possibilities for devs to develop it.
and xperia has many devs too.
and did you know, SONY is a nice vendor for the devs.
SONY put a official page on their website, a nice how to step-by-step UNLOCK BOOTLOADER OFFICIALY..
i kept my eye on xperia acro s for two months now, and my next phone will definitely be this one. and i think the development of xperia devices is not bad, especially when they get cyanogenmod. and im quite sure this device will be officially supported by the cm team.
and i agree with marhensa, if the bootloader is unlocked, development is much easier, and sony makes their bootloaders unlockable.
And about official updates, Sony comes right next to nexus phones in official updates .. they updated almost all of the 2011 Xperia lineup to ics . Better late then never

So i keep my defy ad buy him in autumn a big brother, the nexus seven. So outdoor smartphone and daily using nexus 7
I'm waiting for this piece of hardware as well. Its for the exact reasons I bought my defy for and why I will hopefully never have to but a non ip67 phone again.

lets not forget that:
- the defy is not ip67 officially
- the acro s is ip57, not ip67

oh don't get me wrong there, bud. nothing about devs in general and here at XDA in particular.
my point being was - Sony's tough stance on keeping their phones superlocked - with bootloaders locked(and encrypted) in a way that makes it difficult for devs high and low to come up with diverse ROMs and mods, keeps the flashaholic community to a minimum level.
and yeah CM did very excellent (sorry for the double supras) job of porting ICS and even JB(in the works to most 2011 line). unlimited props to the team. and that was CM - not SE.compare it to both Samsung and HTC communities where in just a matter of weeks they'd have the ports ready and working, it took about what, a year for SE to brush in to the ICS bandwagon?..
also, look at the price range for an SE dual core device, almost up there with the far-quads.
talk about design, props to SE - i mean they make the loveliest phones out there. (exactly why i bought my ACRO HD).
i'm no big fan of SE - or any OEM for that matter - what matters to me is the experience i get out of a phone - or a device - or a product. And this is where SE loses big time to most big players year after year.
if my Acro HD has got better innard - like a quad maybe, this is going to be my phone for the next two years or so. no i'm highly tempted to get an S3.
again, please..don't tramp me just yet...i'm no hater.

umm, i never had an android powered sony, but ive tried many, and from my experience, their software is greatly optimised, their single core devices are almost as smooth as a dual core device. thats why i think its worth buying a dual core sony instead of any quad core for the same price. and the sony stock software is very good, good features, quick, smooth. and they unlock most of their devices afaik. so my next phone will definitely be a sony. i dont like samsung, not just the software, the hardware either. htc is too pricy, especially that i dont wanna use sense ui, and thats extra money. i will never again buy a motorola for what they did to us defy users, and lg i simply dont trust. that leaves sony, which i always liked.

my little brother has got a defy too.. he loved it to the point of learning android programming so he could max his device the way he want's it. i've had 6 other phones while he held on to it. and i know first hand how moto left everyone in the dark with their i-dont-care attitude.
if you're saying though that SE makes very good OS/software for their phones, then i'm not really sure why we're here on XDA.
back to SE - goodluck with your next device. i hope they make better phones in their next release.

you misunderstood me, im not saying i want to stick to the stock sony sw, i just said that if i had to choose id choose sonys, but of course if theres a possibility to change to cm, i will be the first to go. and the acro s has nfc, hdmi, good hw, hd 4.3" display (anything above 4.3" is too big for me), and comes with ics, so it will definitely be updated to jb. so this is the perfect phone for me. the s3 with its 4.7" is waaay to big, and i dont like the look of it.
but guys..
sony is kindly gave OFFICIAL step bu step to unlock bootloader.
and after that, you know what..
the 2011 devices line up got CM by FXP..
it took so long to get CM is because bootloader isn't unlock at that time.
but after that, sony gives a new policy which is so good for any devs.
the warranty will get void of course, but that's a win win solution for devs + it's follower and company (sony)..

I'm sure that Acro S is the best replacement for all Defy Owners , I think Quad-Core phones will eat up batteries.
For Samsung : I don't like their Plasticy devices that feels like a toy and Cheap construction and very easy to break ,but they have a big Dev community
For HTC and SONY they have a great build quality and nice dev followers but its a little bit over-priced
Acro S is the Up-coming phone unless HTC has released any IP57 or IP67 certified phones and i think all phones in the world should be IP57 cert

Just wanted to point out that DEFY+ is IP67 certified. So, yeah, the DEFY maybe doesn't have the official badge, but it was just another marketing trick to make people believe they actually improved the phone in multiple ways (CPU, chipset, graphics, IP67 certificate...things are different on DEFY and DEFY+ according to Motorola), while they are actually the same.
To make sure I was on topic - I find the Xperia line-up very ugly. If a real DEFY 2 doesn't show, my next phone will be an ATRIX 2

Software is poor on lg.....updates are poor....if its about lcd then htc is way to go....if not then samsung....
Every phone nowadays has 4 cores and 2gb ram....what makes them good is software....
So do you think ogp can beat nexus4 ????
Be happy with your benchmarks ....
From a regular distance 1080p and 720p are the same
And btw....if you think samsung does not releases source code.....then first look at your android development forum and then talk....ogp does not even have 5 good roms and look at note 2 forum ...overloaded with roms and kernels and other awsomeness...

Nice joke by Google but if may it is real!! Then Samsung never give us that update!!
& I think kitkat also required 512 mb Rom !! Ok let 400 mb...... Ok low end device..... Lets take 300mb!!
But or phone have only 240 mb Rom !! So its very difficult to get that!! Coz I think Rom can't be increase by partition !! If it happens that every phone gets every update for latest android version.
Lets wait for our galaxy y / duos R.I.P 's day and then buy a high end device!! :'(
if this is not fake..then i am waiting for new update nd so exciated also.

There are written something that " the android 4.4 has Linux kernel 3.8 which support to low memory device below Ram 512".
Pardon me for typo, It's not Samsung Y (GT-S5360) which will get update of KitKat, as it is very low in memory : Just 289 MB.
New Samsung Young (S6312) which is shipped with 4.1.2 stock ROM, will get update of KitKat 4.4 .

Knew it couldn't be our Galaxy Young but the new model (S6310/S6312) that recently came out.
I guess by saying that it will consume less menory google meant that more ram will be available for other apps. And comparing our device in the latest low end devices list we can find that its not comparable. Bitter Truth.

The developers booted 4.2 on htc dream , nothing is impossible , don't compare windows and android , android is open source and highly customizable , we may get the update or no , but we can compile the new CM to our phone (theoreticaly possible) but we lack drivers.

The lack of drivers is due to the fact of the drivers it self being closed source. Eventhough you could get your hands on the drivers and getting 4.x booted up on a Y, it still does not mean that Google will make it run on legacy devices. My analogy was flawless, it was nothing to do with open or closed source, but the fact that trying to install a operating system on a device which clearly lacks the hardware to be able run the operating system. In other words, it is not possible. Sure the CM team or another hacker team might be able to incorporate some of the 4.x functions but it won't be the full 4.x.

Possibilities are:
Low end devices like GT-S5360 will get Android 4.4 KitKat. I heard that Google is working to Android to eliminate OS fragmentation. So if they will be able to make the newer version of Android to be compatible with devices 5 or more years older, then that will help the adoption rate of newer Android versions faster.
We all know that Samsung does not have a good reputation (but not the worst as well) when it comes to giving updates to their devices. Even flagship devices have delays getting Android version updates. To cut it short, even if KitKat will be available for GT-S5360, we have a small chance of getting it from Samsung. We need individual developers to work on it to bring it to GT-S5360. Remember, Galaxy Young is just one in a hundred of low and mid ranged devices released by Samsung. They may not bother to make Android 4.4 available for GT-S5360, but there is still hope. Galaxy Young is only 2 years old. 3 more years before this device reach it's EOL (End Of Life).
Patience is a virtue but don't keep your hopes high. You better accept the fact that this device may never ever ever ever get any android update from Samsung. If they do, then rejoice. If they don't, at least you ain't gonna cry like a baby

Patience is a virtue but don't keep your hopes high. You better accept the fact that this device may never ever ever ever get any android update from Samsung. If they do, then rejoice. If they don't, at least you ain't gonna cry like a baby

Nice explanation sir! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
When the kitkat is compatible even on 512mb ram devices, our grand has got such a good ram and it has pretty large user's, why can't we..! This is not fair by the Samsung...! When our competitor micromax canvas 2 is getting kitkat(micromax has announced the list) why can't we.? Samsung look towards only its high end devices like s3,s4, note2 and note3.. its partial towards their high end customers...! Samsung is looking only to increase their sales not continued support for their customers, so it has launched grand lite/neo..!
So this is the petition to upgrade our firmware to 4.4 kitkat.. who are all with me.?

Haha....well LOL brother..its really decent of u who thinks that way and just for that started a new thread....but its not gonna make samsung change there mind...
1st. The samsung giving kitkat only to those four phones is not completely true...
Yes first they will release for those devices...obvious it would be really weird for all those people who purchased there s4 or note 3 ,and samsung gives kitkat not to them first but us ..
2. Its just first installment lets say...its nothing like only these devices will get kitkat...many more devices will get but in later future...they will get the priority as they are flagships...
3.. Any way its universal truth that samsung updates are always late ...google releases kitkat and many devices gets it, still it takes months for Sammy's devices to get the same (bcoz OEMs takes time)...
So just wait and wait if Samsung declares the confirmed list with names of devices which will get kitkat ,after these flagships....
Though its a good gesture u are concerned about it, but starting a new thread just for poll is not required ..
No offence buddy..i am with u...
But lets start developing by ourselves rather than waiting for these companies to do for us..
If pawitp , xenon92 and k2wl would have thought the same , and if they would have just sit on there homes and just make a thread like this one and vote, then i dont think we would have got all these kitkat roms (kudos to all )....
Hope u get what i am saying...
No offense ...
With your cause xD ..

When Grand 2 will get Kitkat (and it will) we will only get JB 4.3... I think. Developing updates is a money loss for all companies and they prefer to release a sequel device instead.
Besides Grand's main market is for ordinary people in developing countries... And ordinary people doesn't really care about Kitkat anyway, as long as the apps they want work well on their devices. Vast majority of apps still work on JB 4.2.2. And it will be for a few years ahead. Hell, there are even some people who still uses Froyo.
The choice to not update our device makes sense (economically) for Samsung. All companies are built for profit, not for loss, and because of the nature of Samsung itself (a mainly hardware company, not software company i.e. Google) they only get the money from selling as many devices as they can.
You probably should've bought a Nexus device.
And btw, this should be in the general section.
Am totally agreeing with u.Sure u can file a complaint throug samsung official website its simple and it's all what we could do to get atleast 4.3 or a fix for performance. Till recent 4.2udate device is laggy so it's a nice idea
By the way Google havnt updated its Galaxy Nexus to KiTKaT

We can not rely on random sites brothr...
If its not on samsung site....it's nt true ..
BTW.. Evn if 4. 4 comes...unless and untill it has really diffrnt stuffs and features.....i dont think i ll be using it..
I ll still stick to AOSP ports by our devs ..kudos
Or try for debloted rom with some extra features by balliboxer ..that guy really is a gun #respect ...
N till 4.4.2 comes on our device... Maybe a new android will be introduced by that time

Well..if officially we get kitkay.. then our current roms will be updated too(maybe)..
Drivers and all cud be used to fix several bugs and significantly performance cud b increased...
Many ppl arent able to use custom roms because they don't have dual sim..but this one will have.. Not to forget the process load will be lesser and so over all it will be good!
Sorry if i m wrong

Exactly.
AOSP and its derivations of Kitkat are just plain JB 4.3 with minor features (ART, printing, white interface, etc.). Most of the Google features are already updated via Google Play Store. So nowadays there's really no reason to rush the upgrade to Google's latest and greatest, because we already have almost all of Google's Kitkat features distributed via Play Store. These are i.e. Google Keyboard, Camera, Photos, Calendar, Hangouts, etc.
It has some upsides:
- People who are stuck in earlier Android versions can taste some of Google's latest features without upgrading the Android version.
- People who are tied to carrier restrictions can now bypass that and get the latest Google features
- These apps will be updated more frequently than the Android version.
- It will be more lawsuit-proof. All of these apps are now copyrighted by Google and closed source, meaning no other companies can copy any of the apps features without asking Google. It was different in the past when it was all open source, everybody can copy and derive (with author credits of course)
And the downsides is that this is bad for developers community because we're now more dependent to Google Apps than ever before...

Mahn..if u think that this all new releases of lite/grand 2 is marketing ..then i would laugh at samsung for its poor marketing ..
Stats shows that their sales last year were 18-23% less then last to last year..
S4 didnt sell that well..and making bunch of less powerful phones rather then making one powerful mobile is worst strategy ever...people who live in developing countries (like india) ended up purchasing these poor performance mobiles rather than waiting and saving for a big one (and that's why many good handsets didnt set record as they were supposed to)..giving my example :|..
I was thinking to save so that i could take a good mobile...waited, so that can take a cool sammy phone (coz they are powerful)..
I ended up taking this mobile coz it had released and was in Budget ,rather then saving and getting good one(that was a way too far road )..
So marketing word..is something turns out Samsung has forgot..
Just 1 exynos chip dual core in grand and 720p resolution for 5" screen was 100times better then what they made today... It was okay then if device was a bit costlier too..(at least ppl wudnt hav ended up taking a cell with not that grt power ).. Alot alot of thanks to developers out there who gave there sooo precious time just so that i didnt sold my grand ...all thanks to them mahn..
Yea..so u were telling something about marketing ..

Companhies are filling the market with mid-end mobiles like xperia models, motoX from motorola, and others are coming to Brazil for a fraction of a High end device and still good qualities, exactly as said before.
The only one thing bothers me on Grand Duos is lacking of memory management. Even maintaining a controlled number of applications, sometimes I have to close the active ones so the phone can become slower or unresponsive. I´m using 4.2.2 from TIM carrier, Brazil.
I greenified some applications but still a little laggy sometimes, so Kitkat seems a hope for me, but I need dual sim funcionallity, so I need to wait the update, or change for another nexus based model.
I also think our phone will not get kitkat

Only regret i have on this device is its screwn resolution and broadcomm chipset...which are the main reasons why we dont get official custom roms/high quality game support....thats the main reason whyy...!
I ll keep thia device anyway for few months more and will take moto g or something!..
Abt the petition... Lets see what happens..

my first phone ill always keep it...and why not if we get such awesome roms!
