[Q] Red 'X' over Signal Bars on Stock 4.3 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

In live in a major city and have had no problems with my Galaxy S3 for the last year and a half. I upgraded to 4.3 OTA in early December. Since Friday night I have had the issue described in the title.
Here is what I have done:
1. Called Sprint Support from another phone. Result: Take it in to a store.
2. Did a soft reset. Result: Problem still there.
3. Did a hard reset. Result: Problem still there.
4. Take it to a sprint store. In the store there is reception albeit only 1 or 2 bars. I explain the problem and they take it to do a repair order on it. Result: They do a hard reset and check the phone with some software checker (Slate I think they said?). All good to go.
Yay! I take it home and bam same problem.
5. I call up the store and they verify coverage at my street address. I have the best coverage area regarding tower density, etc. with no towers being worked on. Plus My wife's Galaxy S2 works fine. Result: We'll replace your phone but it will take over a week!!!
Can I reflash some portion of the system to get my antenna or radio to work correctly again? I need my phone to work for business.
Thanks in advance for your help!!

I would suggest leaving it alone. Maybe try to call Sprint, or go into the store. Let them know that you need the device for business, and cannot be without a working device for a week. They may be able to either expedite the order, or get you a loaner. Worse case scenario they say no.

I wasn't sure from reading this, but has a reactivation been tried? Open the dialer and type ##72786#. Worth a shot.

[Q] 1 of 2 Evos no longer gets service around home and Sprint hasn't fixed issue

So this is my first thread. I did search for an answer, but couldn't find a similar issue/solution, so any help would be very much appreciated (even if it is to point me to a thread I missed). Here is my problem:
My wife and I both have Evos. We have had my wife's Evo for about 1 yr and it is and has always worked great. We got my Evo about 4 months ago and it worked fine.
On July 11, my Evo stopped being able to connect to either phone or network service (other than randomly about 5 mins every 2-3 hours) when I am at home. It still works everywhere else. My Evo showed 3-5 bars, but when I, for example, tried to make a call, the bars would drop to 0 and then go back up and I'd get a message that the phone couldn't connect.
I took the EVO into the local Sprint service center twice, left it for several hours so that they could run a full diagnostic, and was told it was fine. It does work fine other than about the 1 mile around my house. For instance, when I leave for work in the mornings, I cannot place a call or get network service at my house or as a start driving away. Once I get about 1 mile from the house, the 3G light comes on, I get phone service, and any backed up emails and or VMs show up. Again, my wife's is still working fine at our house.
I called Sprint and was told they were replacing two towers in our area. I waiting until August 4 when the tower replacement was officially complete - still no service on my Evo - wife's just fine this entire time.
Sprint customer service then told me it must be my phone and sent a replacement. Once I got the replacement, I called in on my wife's Evo from my kitchen table to activate the replacement. No luck - same problem as my "old" Evo. No network or phone service. After an hour of the technician trying to diagnose/fix the issue, they said it must be the phone and they would send me another replacement.
Before I mess with another hour on the phone with customer service trying to get the new replacement to work, I thought I'd check in to see if anyone here had any ideas. Bottom line - my phone had no problems connecting to the network until 7/11, it still works everywhere except my house and ~1mile radius around my house (middle of Dallas), and my wife's Evo has no issues at our house or anywhere.
HELP!!!! This is so frustrating.
Thanks in advance.
Call sprint customer pretensions and explain the issue. They will be able to take care of the issue with either a new evo 4g or get u another phone. Just so u are aware. It is sprints policy not to replace your phone with another model unless they no longer carry it (which would be a good thing. 3d baby) or the phone as been replaced three times.

Not really anymore ....but
The evo, what has been done to the evolution as far as over the phone like msid change nail change, number change, ,,,,more detail and ur city please. May be able to help with issue
You may have tried this already but I didn't see it mentioned in the OP...
Have you tried updating the PRL and the Profile?
probe
True, also wat firmware and radio? What kinda of phone does the wife have?
We live in Dallas - zip 75229. Wife has an Evo. All of the firmware, PRL, Profile, etc that can be updated have been. Wife's Evo shows same versions of everything.
Dallas has had alot of problems or upgrades to towers in and around some areas but u should be able to connect. Call in and tell them to change maid and nai with ur device powered down and battery out. Then hang up with care. Leave the battery out for one min then power the device up and then do a ##786# this will erase all info on the ( skip all auto updates. Then let it do its thang and she how she goes this is a good step to get it working or just get a airrave

network issue and questions regarding update profile

So my wife began having issues with her s3 about a week ago. Couldn't receive our place calls but data worked correctly. My phone hasn't had this issue but I'm rooted running old radios. So we call Sprint and they run us through the usual, update profile, factory reset and eventually we have a phone that seems to work. That only lasted a few days though. Spent said I'd it becomes an issue we should consider reps aching the phone so we go to best buy to replace it through insurance. New phone comes in and best buy cannot get the phone to work. Same issue, data works, no voice/text. Before the new phone I was 80% sure it was network related. Reason being when her phone was having this issue I couldn't even reach her voicemail when I called her phone, it would only give a busy signal. Now that a second phone has the same issue I'm definitely convinced but Sprint insists we take it to a repair center to have them check it out. I decide I want to test my theory and put a touch wiz Rom on my phone, upgrade to md4 radios, update profile, bam, no voice/text, only data. Downgrade radios, update profile, everything works. So off to Sprint we go, about 20 miles north of us. We get to the store and of course they are going to want to update the profile. I test the phone while we are up there and it doesn't work. As soon as I update the profile it works. Does the phone pull the profile data directly from the tower? It's really just curiosity at this point as to what might actually be wrong since my wife's phone is fixed, until the system tries to update the profile while we are home. My thinking was that if the profile data is stored directly at the tower that maybe out tower is corrupted in some way. Sprint reps tells us it is simply die to tower upgrades but it's not an issue of coverage, we have bars and data. The busy signal when trying to call the phone makes me feel like it is a much different issue than they care to recognize.
Sorry for the wall of text but if anyone has a good idea what the root issue might be or who to contact at Sprint that will actually pay attention to what I'm telling them let me know.

You may want to try ##72786# in the Dial Pad. It will do the Hands Free Activation again. The Device will Reboot once. Just let it do it's thing.
Did that a number of times. Same result, no voice but data works. So far updating the profile while on a different tower or downgrading the radios has been the only fix.

One thing that keeps coming back in my brain. Is that you had the same issue in two different devices. I would tend to say the issue is on Sprint's side of things. Did they check your account, to be sure there are no restrictions on it ?
TEAM MiK
MikROMs Since 3/13/11
They did and no restrictions. I'm going to try it again tonight but I'm fairly certain I can replicate the issue.
Step 1, flash to touch wiz
Step 2, update to md4, at this point everything will probably still work
Step 3 update profile. At this point I should lose voice/text service while retaining data if I'm correct. And again, if I get within range of a different tower and then update profile it will again work. After updating off a different tower service will continue to work at my house as well. Let the testing begin...

Not receiving LTE anymore

Hey guys,
I recently took my phone to the AT&T store because I felt like the service it was getting wasn't good at all; in areas where I expected full bars (my friends had 4 to 5 bars in the same spot), I would be stuck on "emergency calls only" mode. After talking to an AT&T rep at a local store, they said that the IMEI number they had on log was not the same one my phone had, so they went ahead and changed the IMEI to what my phone was. I was told it'd get better, but as soon as I left I realized I had no more data.
*I HAD LTE BEFOREHAND THIS SITUATION*
I came back and another AT&T rep said my data plan was canceled by accident, so she signed me up again. I realized now that I was only on 4G mode instead of LTE; the mobile network (when checking the settings of the phone) said HSDPA 15 instead of LTE 14.
I have no idea how to get the LTE back and I've tried a lot of things... I've tried *#2263* and switching the mobile network settings that way, and have unrestricted the RAT section as well to see if I can do anything. Nothing has worked so far.
I appreciate it !
You should not try to fix a phone that the AT&T store broke. If LTE does not work, take it back again.
Chances are that you are just going to go in circles here trying to find something that works. There are several fixes that work for some, but not others, but no one proven fix that has worked for everyone.

I have taken it back and they have told me to go to the warranty department which is far way from where I live. They basically said something internally wrong was with my phone and that they are not responsible for the damages caused...even though it was them that got rid of the LTE
Ok, then you can try the following links.

Just post later whether or not it worked so that others will know.
Will let everyone know if this works or not. Thanks!

[Q] No Service.. anywhere.

So my wifes phone no longer likes to be bothered with phone calls or text messages. Her phone has been running flawlessly since we got it and about a month ago she dropped it and cracked the screen. It was too the point where the touch screen wouldn't respond to anything and we had to have it fixed. She took it to one of those places in the mall and they said they could have it back to us in a week or so. Once she got it back, she has had constant issues with not being able to connect to the Sprint Network (only for phone calls, data and wifi still work fine). She often roams but still with very little signal strength. She tried a factory reset, as per the Sprint Customer Service suggestion, and it did nothing. She had remained Unrooted up until this point and I finally convinced her to come to the dark side. I did the root, installed TWRP, and flashed her with Optimus DE. I got no change. I reflashed her Radio. Still nothing. I am at Wits end on this one and ask for some guidance. It would be much appreciated
(ps. She doesn't have insurance on her phone.)

It sounds like the antenna may not have been reconnected upon completion of the screen replacement. At this point though I would attempt a PRL and profile update for the phone. If that still doesn't work I would take it back to the repair shop and request they check the antenna since it was working before the repair.
This ^^^^ And also, Optimus DE can have weaker signal. Try a Stock ish ROM. You can also try going to Settings>About>More>Mobile Networks and check CDMA. It can help too.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will let her know about the antenna issue, that sounds like it possibly could be the case. I tried Stocktimus as well as Optimus DE, I just forgot to mention it. I chose the most basic (closest to Stock option) it had.
Also, I tried the PRL and Profile update and it had no change in signal.
Thanks for the replies.

Does Flashing Stock Firmware Tar trip KNOX on the Note 4?

I'm having issues with my phone reverting to 3G after only being on LTE for a minute no matter how good of a signal of LTE I have. This just started today, and I have refreshed the profile, prl. I had the Sprint people remotely update my phone, and they also checked for issues in my area and there are none. I also factory reset/data wiped my phone and it didn't help either.
So before I call Samsung and tell them my issues for a replacement I wanted to try installing the Factory TAR via Odin to see if that might fix it since I guess factory reset may not really touch any corrupt modem/radio files really.
I know that on the Note 3 it didn't trip it, but I was wondering if someone has had the chance to do this yet on ours to see if it tripped it?
I might call Best Buy and tell them my problem and see if they will switch it out for me even though I am out of the 14 day return window. I really don't want to send it back to Samsung and wait a week or more for a new phone.

I don't see why it should you are not flashing a custom Rom just the original firmware stock. Your KNOX is in tact now your not rooted your good to go:good:
don't quote me, but I think Knox is tripped when change to a custom recovery, which is what is needed to install a custom rom.
Unless you're rooted, you should be fine. If you are, you've probably already tripped it.
flashing stock tar
Did that fix your LTE issues? Im having the same issue.

Nothing you can do will fix the LTE issue. Sprint says it is a Samsung issue with the phones radio firmware and Samsung says it is an issue with the their towers not connecting to the phone properly. I am on my second note 4 with the same issue after Sprint swapped with me. On second phone I went around with them for a week. Finally got to talk to an advanced tech supervisor and he said according to some log only he and others at his level has access to Samsung has said that some Note 4 phones had been flashed improperly. Note by flashing I mean the use of JTAG equipment not some OTA or USB thing we can do. So Sprint advised me to contact Samsung about sending the phone in to be reflashed.
So begins my third week playing phone tag and on hold for 30+ minutes at a time. Finally Samsung admits there maybe an issue with the phone since it happens all over the DFW metroplex. So they tell me to send it in. I ask what the turn around is since it is my only phone and I can't be without it for 2+ weeks. So the Samsung says "I see you are in the Dallas area, just a moment" puts me on hold for another ten minutes. Comes back saying I will email you a service ticket you can print out and then carry it to our service center in east Plano.
So I did that, had to leave the phone with them for 2.5 hours. Went back and they said there is nothing wrong with the phone and that it was reflashed per Samsungs support request. Tested on my way home and got 30's near the repair facility, then down to 10's and singles. About half way to Carrollton back in to the 30's, then back to the singles or lower near my apartment. Just a 1/4 mile north of my apartment I can get 50's.
So neither is willing to offer a solution or even a cause and we are stuck between them. Tomorrow I am going to the Samsung store in Frisco and asking if they can do a swap for an S5 or something. Something to prove that at least Samsung still believes the customer is always right and to keep the customer happy. I am not going to hold my breath though.
Basically one of them dropped the ball on the version of the note 4 and neither wants to take the blame or the backfire that will come from it once made public.
In my case it looks like I am stuck with 20 more payments on a defective phone unless the Samsung store is willing to do something.
