Does anyone else have some phone hardware issues?
My power button works only if you press the back of it and my USB port randomly disconnects from PC mounting. I don't understand how this phone is supposed to last 2 years. I've had mine for 9 1/2 months and it already has some problems.

Yeah I'll be possibly replacing my power button soon. For as great a phone as this is it does have some major hardware issues..
I think Verizon must pay HTC less than the other major stores..
The Eris had a bad trackball but the hero worked great..
Never had the Inc so I can't speak for it..
This phone has the bad charge port and power button but the evo, evo 3d, etc all seem really solid..I think the Inc s even has less complaints.
Idk though.

Yeah, this is probably my last HTC device for a while though as my next one will be the Galaxy Nexus or the S3 depending on release date specs, etc.
I know this is not completely on topic, as it was a software problem, but my phone lost the ability to receive texts whenever I flashed anything. Apparently it was a problem with the code and I found a hot fix from the Inc to fix it.
I don't think we should be running into code problems from a year ago still.

If the galaxy nexus runs anything like the nexus s 4g from sprint I would avoid that phone, my fiance has one and I had to root it just to get it to work work better but it still has issues like slow to load web pages and not connecting to the market both over mobile network and wifi

1. You probably had a lemon.
2. Read a Gnexus review
3. Issues: battery life and signal
4. 4.0.4 fixes signal
5. AOKP with GLaDOS/lean kernel fixes battery
6. You now have a phone with no issues that runs with no lag.
My power button was broken the day I got it. I told the Verizon rep that I couldn't press the top button correctly (being left handed doesn't make it any better). He said it was fine so I just believed him. I got a silicon case with a "button replacement" for the power button. It would push the button in. I can't live without the case. It takes me forever to lock the phone without the case.
USB mode
When i connect my usb to pc it doesnot show the diskdrive in my computer...i did check in settings and selected DISK DRIVE option but it does not show the drive in my pc...but my phone charges on connecting it to pc...i am all confused what to do....
knock on wood ive never had an issue with the htc phones ive owned...my inc2 has been rock solid since i got it last july, and my og inc is still chugging along (now being used by my parents) 2 years later
my wife's tbolt has been fine hardware-wise, just the general terrible battery life associated with first gen lte devices
my other experiences with non htc are mixed: my first fascinate lasted from october 2010 until last june when the speaker gave out (inc2 was actually a warranty replacement for it), but the 2nd one i had (donation) was pretty solid and is also currently being used by my parents (not sure which one uses the og inc and which uses the fascinate)
when i had a droid x, it was ok on the hw front...but generally speaking moto is ok with that...its the software issues that kill you

I recall people having power button issues a few months after the phone came out and some of them returning it because of it. I mainly saw it on another forum but occasionally it popped up here.
I've had the USB issue be weird but only on my Mac, when I use the phone on a Windows desktop it's been fine with USB.
I got this the day it released and have been more than happy with it but I may jump ship to the Inc. 4g LTE or the rumored device for fall. I don't want to jump ship but I feel like this is going the way of the Eris. Promised an update to 2.1 for "Q1" only to have it come out much much later. I like the phone a lot but I'm left wanting a bit more.
DINC2 Issues
Amphibliam, in my experience with the DINC2, the random USB disconnects are a pre-cursor to the micro-USB port failing completely. I had to get my phone replaced under warranty at 11 months due to this. No power button issues with either phone.
On a positive note, the new phone is much better. The old phone's display was pulled away from the glass on the left side and had been that way since day 1. The old phone would also FC voice input if the orientation of the phone was changed from landscape to portrait or vice-versa and would also not work when I had my bluetooth headset enabled (it works now with the headset enabled but I still have to talk into the phone's microphone).
I am now VERY careful with the charging port as I need this phone to last 12 more months. I have found on eBay where the charging port module can be purchased relatively cheaply and it really doesn't look too bad to replace since my warranty ends this month.

Here's a note on VZW's forums that describe the repair (briefly) -
https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/803023#803023
Just an update for those who don't have the warranty for some reason and don't mind DIY repair...
New USB port pcb board was $16 on ebay. Replacement requires a star tip screwdriver and involves removing about 10 screws and disconnecting a couple of small flex cables. No soldering required. It was not hard, but it's always better to let somebody experienced do the repair

Sounds like you'd just need something like this.
On the 3rd of June 2012 I bought an Archos 80 G9 tablet, I was happy with it, it worked fine, until December 2012. Suddenly I could not charge it any more, if I connected it to try to charge it switched off. So I contacted ARCHOS repair service and I sent my tablet to ARCHOS. After almost 2 months waiting for a replacement, they upgraded my old tablet with a brand new ARCHOS 101 xs. I was a little fed up because I was waiting almost 2 months for a replacement but, well, I thought, let's give ARCHOS an opportunity.
Guess what. The brand new ARCHOS 101 xs was faulty as well. Without touching the screen the borders are active, it goes back or opens the menu on the clock side without touching it, if you are watching a video the menu appears without touching it. I tried whatever I could: I tried not to touch the keyboard connection (thinking I could short-circuit the tablet), I rotated it because maybe it was a problem with some corners, I upgraded to 4.1 and to 4.1.2 and also I downgraded to 4.0.26, I recalibrated the screen from Android menu, I recalibrated the screen from Archos recovery menu, I reset android and I reinstalled android.
I wrote ARCHOS replacement and they asked me to send it again. GREAT
I received the replacement (second replacement, third faulty Archos tablet), apparently a brand new Archos 101 XS(PC123902679), I say apparently because it fails again. What a coincidence, don't you think?
I recalibrate the screen a dozen of time, and blah blah blah...
Now I've recorded some videos showing the behaviour of the screen without touching it but I cannot added them because I'm a new user on XDA.
The same day I received the tablet I called archos (didn't work) and I wrote to [email protected] and to [email protected], after 12 days they don't response to me. What do you think? What should I do? I'm waiting for a solution since January, first time I sent the tablet to RMA.
My situation is very similar to yours. I had three faulty 101G9s in the space of a few months!
Eventually Archos upgraded me to a 101XS but this tablet displays exactly the same problem you are describing.
My screen suffers from touches even when I'm not even handling it.
I don't really want to send back to Archos again (yet) as it means being without a tablet and restarting with all my apps etc yet again.
I have found a way to calibrate the screen to stop this issue.
Hopefully it might work for you too.
First, in Developer Options enable Show Touches.
Then In Repair and Formatting calibrate the screen when you can see the phantom touches being recognised : I have to hold my tablet at the very edges (not touching the screen) and then I see touches displayed at the bottom-left, top-left and top-right of the screen.
Sometimes it takes a couple of tries but you know it has worked when part way through calibration the areas showing touch, stop displaying (as though they're no longer being touched).
I plan to use my tablet as it is until just prior to the warranty expiring and then send it back because, although I have found a solution, it is still far from perfect; the digitiser is definitely faulty.

Thanks Extreme_One that worked for me! Maybe I will do the same and send it back just prior the warranty expiring. Although, I don't know, maybe I keep it as it is, I'm tired to deal with Archos.

I'm really glad I was able to help. The last time I performed this special calibration was about three weeks ago and my tablet has been working fine since.
I just wish Archos would work to get Google Earth working properly. Maybe next firmware update...

Did it work fine after updating the firmware? Or did you need to do the special calibration after updating the firmware? I mean, do you need to do the special calibration after every updating?
Thanks again!!
I updated to 4.1.2 on day one and haven't reverted back.
I only recalibrate if/when I need to; not needed to for about three weeks now...

Archos are by far the worst piece of kit I have ever used. As for customer service....non existent. I too have a 101XS....with too many problems to list. Ended up getting a Samsung Tab 10"....not a single problem. Archos release a media player....then ask you to pay for the codecs to be able to watch media on it. Cowboy outfit with low spec/tech.....soap box away!
Another bad experience
Hi Everybody.
I'd want to share my own bad experience with Archos service department.
I bought an 101xs at the third quarter of 2013. A few days after it fell down from my hands while the earphones were plugged, the outcome was earphone jack not working anymore.
I asked for an RMA clarifying that the problem was my fault so I wanted to pay for the repair. They agreed and sent me the RMA and I delivered the tablet to France (35 euros shipping cost!).
Briefly: they sent me the device back, unrepaired, saying that warranty did not cover physical damage! No message quoting our previous mail conversation was successful. Always the same reply: "Warranty does not cover physical damage".
I wonder... was I contacting human beings? Maybe they are but, are they Chinese recently migrated to France?
Never ever more Archos!
It's interesting what touchscreen chip (digitizer) does this tablet have? What's the output of "lsmod" and what's the output of "cat /sys/bus/i2c/devices/*/name" on stock firmware? This problems are mostly due to cheap or buggy touchscreen chip or due to bad EM shielding inside some parts of the device. It may happen also when you are charging the device and using its touch screen simultaneously on cheap digitizers.
I realize I am late to this, but after sending in a dead G9 I also got the 101 xs. I must be one of the lucky few, been working great for the last few years, wife loves it.
Did not like RMA experience though, like most it took months. On the plus side, my G9 WAS out of warranty and they still sent me a free replacement.
Ok this started last night, tablet has been working flawlessly for the last 6 months or more.
What happened was, I wasn't able to use the Internet. Just wasn't working. And every 20 seconds or so it would flash up at the bottom of the screen "connected to (my router)".
So I turned wifi off and on, which usually fixed connection issues, but didn't help. I also restarted router, even though my computer and my phone isn't having any issues.
So then I went to the wifi settings screen to see if there was any way to reset networks. What I saw was this:
If i turn wifi toggle on and watch the screen, it would scan for networks, find the list... Couple seconds pass... Then the toggle would switch itself off and back on! And then it would start looking and finding networks again, and then off and on, and etc etc.
I have tried a factory reset and cache reset.
I have also downloaded the 4.4.2 stock rom and installed using odin for a totally new install.
Still does it.
Any suggestions? Seems very strange. It's under warranty but it seems like an odd hardware fault, seems more like software but I dunno.
Help me xda, you're my only hope.
I've been searching the Internet all day trying to find someone else havin this problem... But I seem to be the only one. And noone seems to have any suggestions.
At the moment I'm having to consider a warranty dispute, but that means however many days/weeks without the tablet which I use on a daily basis.
Not ideal Samsung.

Hey. I had the EXACT same problem. Even made a video of it and showed it to the service point personell. Turning on off on again and again, it also displays in the settings the switch just switches itself without any action of mine. It was a hardware defect. send it in and get a new one, better than being annoyed by it. Mine did it on a 5-10sec interval length...

Yeh mines probably every 5-10 seconds...
So this is definitly a hardware fault? In which case I'll have to get in touch with john lewis and hope they will do an exchange in store. If it involves having to send it off to samsung and waiting for it..
Anyway thanks for replying to the question, shame it wasn't better news haha!

yeah sorry to be the one to tell you this is a faulty device but it seems like this unit ain't free of errors and there quality control is somewhat sketchy.
Which android version are you running? I am asking because I run kitkat and also have relatively ****ty battery life. I use it for university so I have the screen on and write notes during lectures. Usually it lasted 7-8hours but for about a week or two it now only lasts 4-5 hours of screen time which is really ****ty.
I read somewhere that this might be a motherboard issue and if it is it might be somewhat corellated to our wifi problem. In my case they replaced the wifi module and gave me back my "old" device but this is having bad battery life so I am thinking about sending it in (again). I did however root so I would have to make use of the warranty provided by the seller, not samsung itself, since my knox is tripped.
(in Germany the sellers also must provide 6months - 2 years of warranty and there was a judgement in Europe that rooting must not have any influence on wether your device still is under warranty or not. sadly this only applies to the warranty provided by the seller, not the manufacturer)
Is your BT on and are you connected to a 2.4 GHZ network?
If so, turn off BT
I get random WiFi disconnects and reconnects from 2.4 GHZ networks when BT is on but not connected. Though, Ive never noticed the wifi switch going off and on.
I am running 4.4.2 or whatever, kitkat anyway.
Bluetooth is off, I never use it on my tablet. I dunno what network type I'm running, might be N or might be B/G, but whatever it is it what it has been for months as I havent changed any router settings lately.
I have restarted the router twice already in case this was a network problem, but the network wouldn't cause the wifi to toggle off and on, it would just cause disconnects etc. Least I assume so. I may try this just in case but like I said the network type hasn't changed lately
John Lewis are saying they won't exchange it, it will have to be sent off to Samsung for "repair". Meaning I'll probably get sent back a refurbished second hand one with a dodgy light bleed screen, as I expect they have hundreds of those lying around now.
Oh and it'll be up to 28 days. For a premium and expensive device that's less than 6 months old this just isn't good enough.

I had mine replaced as well but dont remember wether I got a new one or just my old one repaired... should have written down the IMEI I guess :-/
you're from Bristol, don't the EU rights apply there? If so your retailer should be obliged to replace or repair the device.

Anyways my replacement was done through Samsung and it took 6 days. But then again idk differences between UK and Germany...
I ordered the Zenwatch during those few hours they were first available online at best buy. I picked it up yesterday and only have a few days left before I need to return my Sony Smartwatch 3. I want to decide between the two, and was leaning towards the Zen because of aesthetics and I actually like the charging cradle design.....
BUT, this watch lags like crazy and then freezes completely within a few minutes of booting. Even the very first time I turned it on, it took forget to register what I had selected for language. After rebooting, I got past that and it eventually installed a software update. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to help.
After 1 or 2 cycles of dimming the screen and being woken up, the watch freezes. The phone still thinks it is connected and I can feel it vibrate when swiping down to mute/unmute, but the graphics are frozen. The side drawer doesn't activate and the only way to shut it down is to hold the power button for 10sec or so.
I've done multiple "resets" on the watch and repaired the phone, but it keeps acting the same. Is there a hard reset for this watch? Anyone else experience this?
I'd exchange it at best buy but of course they are sold out so who knows how long before they can exchange it.
This happened to me when I had the 360. It froze when I was trying to turn it off. I eventually got it off, just like you did. It never responded the same afterwards. It would freeze at random times. I assumed it was the TI processor in the 360, but I hope this is not something to expect with AW. I took mine back to BB and got a refund so I could get this watch. I hope this is an isolated event.
All the reviews have been stellar and people have seemed happy even on the fortune, so I'm sure this is isolated.
I wonder if there is a way to reload the system software from the computer to the watch? Best buy is a no-go at this time. Sold out and unable to help aside from returning and refunding it.

Based on the tracking status, I should get mine tomorrow. I'll let you know if I experience any funny business when I get mine up and running. Good Luck.
I really haven't noticed any significant lag. It's initially unresponsive sometimes which I attribute to an overly conservative cpu governor, but otherwise it's a pleasant experience.
I've had mine for almost a week now and definitely haven't seen those problems. There were updates to both the watch and phone app soon after starting up. Maybe you got a bad load on one of them. Have you tried the 'Resync apps' option from the Android Wear (Phone) settings menu? Have you tried the full factory reset of the watch? If so, sounds like dud might be the case. If of any significance, I'm connecting via a stock Sprint HTC One Max.
Yes, the watch did an update after the first successful boot, but it was laggy and had frozen during the language setup even the first time. I've done multiple factory resets to no avail, but it does not repeat the update with that (though it does require pairing to the phone again).
I wish I could manually reload the watch system software. I'm new to Android wear rooting, etc. Is it possible to manually completely reload the system software?
Yes, I've also tried the resync apps and have the latest phone software as well...

I would maybe try once with a different phone then call it a dud. I don't know enough about it either to go deeper than that.
Saga over. Returned the watch today after trying clean installs of everything last night. It would even freeze when not connected. Sucks to get a dud, but glad this seems to be a unique occurrence.
Trying out the LG G watch R (what a horrible name). Big and sporty instead of subdued, but nice nonetheless.

I was having similar issues but wanted a couple days with the watch before i posted, I just requested a RMA for the watch, love the look of it, but was having issues with random reboots, very laggy ui especially when browsing through watch faces..had one time where the watch actually locked up and required a hard reset via the button on the back..also got significant battery drain, 2 percent every it seemed 10 minutes....Hopefully the replacement is better than this one...I could live with some of the issues, but the random rebooting i can't deal with. If the 2nd is a dud mite get the sony, till then back to my trusty g watch.

Did you get your watch back? I have to send mine in too because the battery dies in 5 hours without even touching it. ASUS said it is a bug with the lollipop update so they are going to re-flash it. Also did you have to ship it yourself or did you get something in the mail.

Hey all,
My Note 5 suffers from a terrible bluetooth connection. If the Wifi is connected the phone needs to be within a few inches of the Bluetooth device for any connectivity. If the Wifi is not connected, it can be within 10 feet, but still not much more than that. This thread on AndroidCentral shows a lot of other users with the same issue http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-note-5/570201-note-5-bluetooth-issue-5.html
I've tried all the fixes including a factory reset to no avail. I want to take it to AT&T and see if they will do a warranty replacement.
The issue is that the front glass is cracked. Just a slight fracture on the bottom near the back key, not enough to pay for a repair in my mind. How will AT&T respond? Will they outright refuse to address the Bluetooth issue because of the cracked screen? I'm willing to pay for the repair, but samsung asked for $250, which is steep for what needs fixing. (I realize the entire screen needs to be replaced, hence the cost, so I'm not arguing the cost, just not worth it when the crack is barely noticable for me). Just wondering if anyone has had experience with AT&T handling an issue like this. It wouldn't surprise me if they outright rejected me since how do they know the BT issue isnt' caused by the crack (it's not, was happening since day one, just affects me now that I have a smartwatch).
i would call them and then complain, if you go into the store im pretty sure theyll deny repair because of the screen or say its not covered by warranty. be VERY persistent about getting a replacement. say some bs story lol

Thanks for the advice. Honestly, I'd be totally fine if they sent it to Samsung and specified "just repair bluetooth board" and left the screen as is. Ideally, it'd be great if they just sent me a refurb and I got lucky with the screen. But the Bluetooth issue is far worse for me. The screen really only will affect me when I go to sell it next year, since again, the crack is a hairline across the back button.
My worry would be that I get them to accept the return/repair over the phone, they get my phone back and see it cracked and send me a ridiculous bill. Not sure what my recourse then would be.
I have had nothing but good experiences going in to the at&t device support center. They plug the device in to check it out and can give you a replacement device in the spot. Just be very polite!

I had the same exact problem. I called ATT and they sent me a new device, and I sent my phone off in a box they sent me. Problem solved....
I can second this. I had major Bluetooth issues with my day 1 note 5 but just recently did a warranty swap and am having no Bluetooth issue now.

Same here. Bluetooth was more than fine up until yesterday, and then just all of a sudden bottomed out. This is the second time for me. First went from launch to about a month ago. This one worked perfectly for a month.
I just can't figure out what could possibly trigger it. It's almost like something burns out or something.
