android 4.4 on xperia play? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

this may be pushing it but is it possible that us xperia play users can have a taste of kitkat (4.4) maybe not but it seems that we barely made it spec wise. it requires 512 mb of ram and a ARM v7 processor. we have that:fingers-crossed: i dont want to use it as a daily rom but i would like to test it.

yes.. that is true.. we have the specs.. we will use it as a daily rom like many of us are using the JB as a daily ROM. hopefully soon.. we all need to combine are efforts and build the kernel.. that the reason I was against the closing of the Kernel Dev thread.. because every now and then. someone used to come up with a new experimental effort..

that phone have similar hardware configuration like our phone, just 800Mhz dual core cpu and 768Mb ram, I guess its about 500Mb because 268Mb
deserved for system, and mali-400MP GPU. Just a slight improvisation from our i8150.

what da hell samsung? uour phone spec isn't low enough for ICS, your bull**** touchwiz blows everything down. crappy marketing strategies
Even Samsung Galaxy S Duos http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_duos_s7562-4883.php comes with ICS
Speechless as it is much weaker than our SGW, in term of CPU & GPU, the only thing it wins is the amount of RAM
There are a lot of ICS phones with 512MB RAM from HTC & Sony, if Samsung is willing to give us support, we would get ICS without problem for sure since Samsung got a big team to work it out, really quite a bad support from Samsung for our phone, luckily we got Arco and some developers who work hard to bring ICS to us really thankful to them!

yes this is right. support al the dev!!
I always look at the bright side of this.
If sammy release update ICS or JB, then we will loose the excitement of custom ROM.
What I mean is like the waiting time of new custom ROM version, the moment when devs release new update and we download it and flash it to our beloved SGW. It's so exciting!!!
Here, we have many custom ROMs and every new release is getting better and better. To be honest, I might prefer custom ROM. Because even if sammy release update, I'm sure it will full with sammy's bloatware.
One day, I met other SGW user. He is just a regular user and don't know anything about flashing. He looked at my phone and say: whoaa..!!! how did you do that?? Can you do it to my phone??
My point is: I DON'T CARE if sammy release update or not. As long as there are custom ROMs, that's more than enough for me
maybe we are not worried about this because there are custom rom. but I feel sorry for those who use stock rom and hope about rom upgrade.

Yes but surely ROMs like Cyanogen 9 would be much further along and have taken less time to develop and debug if an official Sammy ICS ROM for Galaxy W had been available as a starting point for modding/improving.

you're not completely right, for example if we had official ics we would not reverse engineer camera and some other hw, so creating 4.x customs would be easier, but we had just to rely on our devs and huawei u8860 software

Developers would be able to customized ICS if a stock ICS is already available than creating from scratch. ICS is different from GB. Thats why devs are having difficulties in fixing stuffs like camera for phones that do not have ICS. Devs would love to use working libs for ICS phone-related components. Then porting JB would be much faster too since little is different from ICS.

What I mean is instead of pissing off to sammy, we should be grateful because we have devs that work very hard porting ICS for our phone.

I really wish this was true, and I wish Sammy would bring this update out NOW!
Not because I have one of these phones, but because that firmware could be the base for the developers working on our Wonder. That means it's gonna be easier to port, and we'll have a stable CM10 in no time! :highfive:

Some things like apps work best with ics than gingerbread. There are plenty of changes from gb to honeycomb to ics.

Not imo, sure it needs to be tweaked a little but no matter how fast GB is it's got an ugly U.I and I wouldn't dream of going back to it.
Just googled some stock gb benchmarks and average score was 4600/5000 on stock ics I've got about 5200 on CM10 JB 6200 and even more on "clean" just flashed ROM so stop talking bull**** and go play with yourself because nobody likes you in this thread.

Forget Benchmarks. Be Honest Mann
We need more free ram, like as 230 200
we dont need high benchmark. We need stable - fast - lighting - Power !
If you want free ram then remove bloatware, i had 250 MB on tweaked, de-bloated ICS.
And learn about Android/Linux ram management. Used ram doesn't mean wasted ram, if they stay in ram they will start faster.

Are you high? Because you sound so. Right now i have 180mb of free ram on cm10 super smooth ui and nice performance in games. I would never go back to gb because its ancient and I think it kills android as an platform. Why? Because majority of current android devices runs on gb so developers cant fully use power of newer API's and they must keep backwards compatibility which I think is always some additional work and unnecessary code.
I think exactly the same. Gb is better than ICS in all ways.
Appearance? Yes, we have great themers, we could make the interface we wanted, with no doubt.
That apps run better in ICS than in GB? That is not true. Due to RAM consumption and other aspects, apps work really better in android 2.3 than in 4.x+ (for our phone).
We moved to ICS because its build number is 4.0, not because anything is better. The true reality is that ICS is a less stable than GB...
There are new API features and some apps will never work in GB.
ics looks better than gb, and I don't play games to notice much difference in performance

Not in my opinion. With every gb battery would last at least 20h with moderate use. That doesnt happen in ICS
Enviado desde mi LT18i usando Tapatalk 2
In all honesty, I used to think exactly the same as you.
But, as stated earlier, ICS IS nearly as fast as GB now.
I used GB exclusively and occasionally used an ICS ROM just to see what they were like, I always went back.
But recently there has been some excellent work and I would never go back to GB now.
In the end its just personal preference, if you like GB - use a GB rom!!! There are plenty of good ones!

a request

hi all developers
i have a request from developers
can you guys make LiquidSmooth rom for xperia play?
i have very limited bandwidth so i cant compile it my self
source of that rom : https://github.com/LiquidSmooth
Well that's 4.2.2 so it,d probably be better to wait for a stable 4.2.2 for our play and a stable kernel but it would be awesome to see that for out play
Sent from my Xperia Play (r800x)
But it was 4.1.2
Oh sorry I saw a different version that was 4.2.2

Any thing higher than gingerbread requires the device to have a quad core. Single core wont cut it will be sluggishly slow rom.

Haha, yeah, I tried to run ICS a few times, and the result wasn't great. There were a couple that were put out that have great performance in the OS, but then all the apps and games are sluggish and laggy.

Is The Stock Rom The Most Stable Rom?

I've been wondering. I've tested at least 30 xperia roms. From GB to ICS to Jellybean. And while the developers on this site have done a excellent, the majority of the custom roms, in my experience start to lag after a few weeks. Yes I know apps like Facebook will cause that but somehow I've only experienced none/little lag with the stock rom. So I can't help but wonder, in the long run are the Stock Roms provided by Sony the best? When it comes to the stability factor.
Yes ofcourse, thats how sony made it and they know best for our device.

Sorry to say man but none of JB ROMs can be stable. Even yours. You can only achieve smooth UI and partly smooth gaming (not in heavy games of course) but performance will never be same as GB. And the big pain in the ass is random rebooting when big workload. You're right that JB have better options but that's all.

I agree. A Question can kernels mess up the stability of a stock rom? Cause I've flashed a stock rom on a Lupus kernel mainly for overclocking and I think the stock kernel works better...
Is there a stock kernel available but only with overclocking added on it?

I dunno but LUPUS has no problems with stability. In what aspect stock kernel is better?
You can try DoomKernel. It's probably closer to stock than LUPUS and has overclocking ability of course.

Anyone think 4.4 kitkat will come to our phone?

They say that 4.4 will be much more lite to be able to run on low end 512 devices, any devs having some cravings?
I'm still running flinnycm101_vision_22 (Android 4.2.2), and I'm looking forward to 4.4 as wel as you, especially because since 4.3 should include SELinux by default and because it uses less resources (which could make stuff easier for Devs).
4.3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2402643
I'll be visiting http://andromadus.flinny.org/ regularly, as wel as this forum.
I'm running the CM10.1 rom as well, and loving it. I think that KitKat will be ported over, or so I hope. I do have some of the features from it, such as the launcher and the new hangouts, running on it (You can search for a Nexus 5 rom rip on DroidLife to find them since I can't post links yet.) We will see -crosses fingers-
I say yes - if similar devices like Desire HD, Desire S get working kernel.
