Hi. Today I was gonna buy some NFC tags when I asked myself how does exactly NFC works. I found soon what I was looking for thanks to Wikipedia: NFC is based on RFID technology, which is also used for today's lift tickets. So I took an old reusable lift ticket (which I had kept from last year) and tried it on my Nexus 5. Surprisingly it worked! I could erase it and use it with Trigger as a normal NFC tag. Unfortunately I had to swipe it on the back of my phone for a few seconds before it was detected so I looked for a solution and I found it. I wrapped it up with some magnetic tape and now it works <5cm long!
This is just for you to know:
1) don't throw out your old lift tickets; use them as NFC tags!
2) want to make any tag work better? Use magnetic tape!
What makes you even think you should swipe it? NFC is not a magnetic keycard or something. Just hold it still for a sec.
Which app did you use for erasing?

There are many tools which can do this. Since I had Trigger installed, I used it.

so I have just recently purchased my note8 and Im still trying to get the hang of it. I notice that I frequently qet message saying that the smart stay can't detect my eyes.
I also notice that I rarely see the eye icon lights up (I assume its there to indicate that the feature is active).and one time, the screen went blank just right after the eye lit up.
maybe, speaking from my limited exp, just maybe, the smart stay works better on devices with smaller display as the variance of the eyes/ face orientation will be much smaller compared to on an 8"device.
While I understand the benefits, the question is how many of you find this feature reliable on this tablet? pls feel free to share your experience on how it performs on smaller devices.
Im thinking I might as well turn it off in exchange for some extra battery life.
thanks / Luke
Can't share any experience using this feature as turning it off was the very first thing I did after purchasing my device
I think the drain should be way too high since it uses the front camera all the time, doesn't it? Anyway, it happens maybe once a week that the display turns off when I'm actually looking at it - at most. And just before the display turning off it dims the screen, so there is still some time to react..

I find it doesn't work as well in the dark as my GS3 did under earlier firmware and I do often get the icon. But smart stay does work well for me. Unless I'm laying down on my side.

It checks every 15 seconds of inactivity to see if you're still looking at the screen. If you're not according to your front camera, it'll dim/shut the screen.

Mine only checks a few seconds before the screen is set to time out. Ie. If the screen is set to stay on for 2 minutes, it will check at about 1:50 of inactivity.
I kind of like it except, as posted above, it can be a little iffy in low light.

I really think it is almost completely useless and simply a waste of battery. I've also disabled lock screen. Nobody touches this tablet but me. When I use it I want it instant on, and when I'm done I turn the screen off myself. I hate my devices trying to decide for themselves when to switch off, and first thing I always TAKE THE POWER BACK!
Thanks for the feedback everyone. l have been trying it off and on but at the end I would have to agree that it doesn't work for me. I cant say how much power saving I get by turning it off but it feels good to know that some resources are relieved for something else.
I use it on my note 2 (8 months now) and note 8.... it doesn't burn much battery.... it works better on the note 2 because your face is exactly straight on the camera... On the tablet.. Usually we hold it slightly at an angle.. So the camera sometimes misses off

yeah I like it too. I usually only use it when reading on the kobo app but it does come in handy.
I really like it but not it is not as good on the note 8 as it is one the other Samsung galaxy devices I have

After reading this topic, I charged my Note 2 and disabled this feature to try to get more bvattery life.
The difference is like night and day. The screen consumes a lot less power (according to the JB's Battery widget) and the battery lasts much longer.
i've never used this on any of my devices. i always seem to have this odd habit of turning off electronics when i'm not using them
A big NAY for me, I just haven't been able to get it to work even a single time, keep getting the "Smart stay cannot detect your Eyes" message again.
Is it that bad, even in other device like the S3 or S4? S4 has so many features(like the smart pause based on it, makes me think I can't use it properly), any tips how to better the usability(other than the usual ones given by Samsung)?
on my htc one x back button dont lights, other two button lights working good, but back button dont lights up....
is it big problem, ewerything else working super
thanks....
Then it is a hardware failure. You need to send your phone to HTC to fix it. The light must be broken. Not software related.

is this danger to other hardware in phone
It is my view no big problem and it is not dangerous at all. As long as you can use your phone normally, everything is fine.

I have a similar problem but my middle button is dim while the other two are bright. I must have damaged or loosened something whilst changing the back cover but I don't know what.
If you're confident enough to start taking your phone apart you can buy the ribbon/ for the capacative lights for about £6 on ebay but when I looked closer at the location of this inside the phone there seems to be a lot of things to take apart to get to it. Personally I'm not that confident doing it so am going to live with the problem but if you're interested in fixing it yourself this might be an option for you.

My girlfriend bought tab s 10.5 and ordered case from China. And now it's blocking randomly even when cover is open. I think it's because magnetic sensor and didn't find out how to turn this function off. And option in "Accesories" isn't working. What should I do?

1. Backup, then factory reset or try update your firmware manually with Odin (rule out software).
2. Return the device if possible.
3. The only way i know is to disable the sensor in the kernel compile. I haven't done it in my kernel because the sensor is a feature. So, if she's rooted, i could compile a stock-like kernel for you to flash (warranty void) and test.
Another solution: buy an original cover instead of a "cheap one" from China!
You can disable the cover functionality in settings

I assumed the OP had, but it's quite possible as he didn't state one way or the other

Simple
Hi, I bought my nexus 5x (32gb black) 4 days ago. Since the first time I got the impression that the touchscreen was not as good as the g4's one.
For example, on the nexus I do a lot of mistakes while typing with any keyboard app (stock and swiftkey): it seems that the touchscreen is not accurate.
Yesterday I played with "Yet Another Multitouch Tester" app and I found out that every time I had two touches very close the phone recognizes a non-existent touch positioned between the existing two.
I had a 1+1 some months back with the touchscreen grounding issue and I could say that it was worse than this nexus 5x's issue, but at the se time I think that in not a normal behavior.
This is a screen record of the problem:

I had got a detective unit?
What do you advise me to do?
I'm in time to ask the RMA.

Hi, I tested mine and I don't have this issue. So I guess you have a defective device. You should send it back. Good luck.

I tested again, and now I do have this issue! Perhaps it's just like that.

My retardedly expensive S7 has an issue (if you want to try and call it that) where when my fingers get about 2.5mm apart the touch combines into a single event. Is it an issue? No. Never in actual usage do I operate my phone like that. Same with my 5X. If my fingers are really close the screen acts retarded. Is there ever a situation where it would cause a problem? Not a chance. No one can type that fast. You have to want this to happen to get it to happen. My guess is you are simply struggling to type on a smaller screen.

In my case the issue appear when the two touches are at 100dpi of distance. It's something like 1cm that is a HUGE distance compared to 2.5mm

It can be replicated on my end but I really need to be pushing my thumbs together pretty hard to do that. That being said, it's not like I actually type like that and I never really have issues with typos with either SwiftKey or Google Keyboard.

Does anyone have problem with swimming tracking on galaxy watch?
After 10 min of swimming, it says I burned cca 3995 kcal which is insane.
I tried it couple of time, and every time got same result.
Other types of workout seems to work fine
I've tested it yesterday 2x, same bad outcome. I waited for it to lock GPS before start. It recorded time 13 mins correctly, but 0 m distance, no route on map, and* a ridiculous calorie count (2300). Samsung health did a terrible job with the open water swim mode.

Gps can not work in or under water, so if you swim normally, with both arms in the water, it can't fix the hole time of swimming.
The cal count is really bad, that's true :/

I don't know. Maybe if you swim the crawl it can work? But under water there is nearly no way to get a fix.

I just tried emulate swimming at home, after 5 arm movements and walking around 10m, I burned 300 kcal
I used swimming (pool) 6 min swim for 51kcal.
Active Watch not tracking swim distance in pool.
GW Active stopped recording distance/laps while swimming in pool. Eg. 30min Swim 0m. Any ideas for a fix? Thanks XDA
