Is it still under warranty?
If your note 2 is not under warranty, I suggest you go to download mode and flash a stock ROM with Odin. If that's not the case you should probably send it back to Samsung, your carrier or whoever you send phones back to . ^^

Yes, its still under warranty. I will bring my phone to phone repair shop tomorrow and see if somebody can fix it.
I just never flashed any type of ROM to my phone, so scared to make it even worse, but thanks for suggestion anyway
Hopefully you'll get it fixed under your warranty. It doesn't look like it's not the LCD's fault as it seems to be working when you get to download mode. So don't let them rip you off on a new LCD.

Sudden Death Syndrome
Hi there
This is known as Sudden Death Syndrome, it's caused by a faulty memory chip. My Note2 just came back from repairs for this problem, they replaced the PC board and all seems to be well now.
It will have to go in for repairs.
Hello. How much did you pay for repair or it was under warranty and you had nothing to pay?
Thank you.

having the same problems... going Samsung Service Center tomorrow.
i had the same problems, freezing and rebooting in download mode, i was sure i had to throw phone away, then i was almost ready to bring the phone to assistance, but first i decided to try to flash other roms just for fun like aosp, leaked etc and also i reflashed different versions of mj5 bootloader found on different posts many times (now i'm on revhd23)... and... surprise surprise the phone seems reborn... very fast smooth and no freeze, sorry i don't have any explanation for this!

I just bricked my rooted T989. Nothing happens when I hit power (no display) and my PC does not show the drives when I connect via USB. I have tried vol buttons + power (with battery and [no battery + cable]). Does anyone have any ideas as to what I should try next? Is TMO likely to replace/repair my phone even though it had been rooted?
Have you tried getting into download mode? And what caused the brick?

I was flashing a new ROM and it bricked when it finished flashing. It just never rebooted. I can't get into download mode.

This is really embarassing but I somehow stumbled up WickedRom, which is for the I9100, somehow thought it was for T989, and tried to flash it. Obviously a major league screw up. I have requested a replacement from TMO. I just hope they don't hit me with a major financial penalty if Samsung notices that it has been rooted (it was rooted when I tried flashing WickedRom).

Same thing happened here... I was odining back to stock and the power in my office at work went out... total fail. All Black, no power button, battery pull or Jig will make the phone do anything... anyone find a work around for this... I did this to my VIB before and was able to get it to work again but this just feels bad. Any help is appreciated. Los Angeles area dev's feel free to come play with it.
hey i know im new here but i got the answer... u need 2 odin back 2 stock 4 download mode pull battery plug usb into computer then 2 phone hold vol up and trackpad then insert battery and u will be in download mode also if using CWM dont fix permissions and also dont forget 2 place unzipped recovery file in /system/bin folder and overwrite it over existing file also make sure that cache, data, sdcard ,and system are all unmounted in mounts option of recovery took me 3 days of flashin back 2 stock with odin and soft bricking my phone 2 figure this out hope it helps

perhaps people should have shown a bit more support?
Your fault !
Damn that sounds bad, big mistake on your part though, differentiating between i9100 and T-989 is key, among the other models too.
Mine did the same thing after doing a backup. I'm in the 30 day grace period and I'm gonna try to take it back in.. Hopefully I get away with it unless I find a way to fix it

Only way is to send it to Samsung or get it JTAG. JTAG will probably be cheaper.

All he have to do is call Samsung and they will replace it you have a year factory warranty as long as theres no physical damage. They send the phone fast. I did it four times already don't waste your time looking for solution just tell them it won't boot just turned off and won't start that's all i said. You don't have to have insurance either.

I can vouch for that cause I've had to swap out my 1st. Maybe not due to that particular reason, but still, if it doesn't light up they gets frustrated and swap time.

I used to have an Epic 4G Touch and yesterday accidentally flashed a kernel for it on my S3. I was left with a beautiful pebble blue coffee table piece. I started to freak out because I couldn't power on or anything. Long story short, I purchased my phone less than 14 days ago so I took it back to the store. The technician took a look at it, couldn't power it on and they gave me a replacement phone, no questions asked!!
I promise if you hard bricked hell or even soft bricked you can get it exchanged from Samsung as long as it's been less than a year and no water damage or cracked screen .I really think they don't look into all the rooting stuff they just install new software in the phone and send it right back out to someone else which works for me.
If you go threw your carrier avoid it they ask to much question call Samsung and i sware they will send you a new or refurbished phone but a working one and that's all you can ask for and i didn't pay a dime the box they send you to send your phone is prepaid by them i just put my bricked phone in there then dropped it off to ups. I will say this two times i wasn't at home and ups left the damn phone in the box right on my door step than goodness no one stole it.

I recently bought a new note 2, and everything was good and I love it!
But yesterday I was on the phone to a friend and initially I tried putting him on speaker phone, but the screen wouldn't turn on, only the soft touch keys at the bottom lit up. I thought nothing of it and continued my phone call.
It wasn't until he hung up I noticed i still coudn't the damn thing on. So i removed the battery and re inserted it. Here's where things get interesting though, now whenever i try to power it up, i get a little red light in my proximity sensor (i think) that flashes for about half a second.
I've tried soft rest, which does the same thing ( makes the proximity sensor light up for half a second)
Hard reset which does the same thing.
I haven't rooted the phone or anything. Luckily its still under manufacture warranty and I'll get samsung to have a look at it, but any thoughts on what it could be?

Well, I can tell the that the red light is normal, I get that too and its just because its booting up, when you turn your phone on, what happens exactly?
Thanks for the reply. When I press the power button, around a second later the red light blips for half a second and turns off, but the OS doesn't boot up and nothing happens.

This PSA was sent Flow style from my Note 2 N-7100
Now i am really getting worriyng about this, does note2 has started SDS ?
atleast 3-4 cases are reported with same symptoms.
Anyway can you tell
You were on which ROM when this happened?
Are you getting to reboot in recovery/download mod?
@dingokevin I had a read over the thread you linked, and I fear the worst has happened to my note 2. This seems like a serious issue and even a flaw with the motherboard perhaps? Thank the lord it is still under warranty. R.I.P old friend.
@dr.ketan Im not sure what SDS stands for... Yeah I was running stock touchwiz 4.1.1 I think. No modifications and no root what so ever, and nope :/ I tried holding down volume down key + home button + power but no cigar, just the proximity light flashes briefly.
SDS - sudden death syndrome
And if you are unable to get into download/recovery mode then nothing can be done except send it to service station. it highly suggests sudden death which is very known issue for SGS3.
Replying to your query at other thread, you will get motherboard replacement if it is under warranty.
Ahh thats probably whats happened then. Thanks guys, I'll send it off to samsung and have a word or two with them to see why this is happening to many people!
If possible share outcome here too.

I was just reading up on some possible causes here on XDA with peoples S3's and someone suggested corrupted NAND memory.. I think this maybe the case because before the phone call I had installed Gangster Rio (which i honestly did purchase off the play store, hand on heart) and after playing it for a while decided to un install it and get a refund. Could me doing this have caused the NAND memory to corrupt? The game is a pretty large file...

I highly doubt it was screen damage, imho. I only received the phone last friday and have been cradling it like a fragile little baby, Its never been out of my sight lool.
Maybe i just got really unlucky and ended up with a faulty device.
If screen fault then in such case usually you can hear boot up sound. It seems your case very well fits to sds category only.

Hi Guys,
Got up this morning having left my Note 2 turned on and on charge overnight to discover this same fault -
slow flashing Red light and phone totally dead.
Unable to do anything to rectify the situation.
Still under warranty of course, phone only released in October 2012.
Is this a fault with the phone which necessitates replacement or just a battery problem?
Would be grateful for any advice / guidance / help.
Thanks,
Mike Longley.

It seems also like SDS send it to Repair AFAIK is a chip problem, not battery so you can't do anything to repair it. If it is under warranty and with counter at 0 send it. They must repair it.

Hi I have a galaxy s3 running the liquid smooth rom, and I think I have a power switch problem. Yesterday I woke up and pressed the power button and the phone just powered off. Now my phone will shutoff as soon as it boots up. It will only take 10 seconds for the phone to turn off. When I take the battery out and put it back in, the phone will boot on it's own. I took the phone apart and removed the power button to see if that was the problem and that didn't solve it. so I believe it's the actual power switch on the motherboard. Anybody know a fix or if I am giving the wrong diagnose.
Are you rooted? Try to flash a ROM to see if it may be a software problem. Unless the power button is stuck on the pressed position, which shouldn't be true since you checked it. Let me know how it goes!

lol no warranty or insurance. I think I'm going to have to find someone who is skilled enough to put a new switch on the motherboard. If I do fix, I'll people know. I see people have had this same problem and thinks its the Sudden Death Syndrome and it's not. Maybe I'll make a video or something if it goes well
I'm pretty sure the sudden death only affected the international models on esrly firmware builds.
Looking forward to hearing if you get it fixed! Good luck!
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
1st possibility: power button got stuck
2nd possibility: sudden death syndrome (but I think it can be lesser possibility 'cause SDS was fixed from Android 4.1.2 version and only international Galaxy S3 models has SDS possibility,so if you use international model you're on the wrong forum, if not I doubt that it can be SDS )
