[Q] HELP! Bricked! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I just bricked my rooted T989. Nothing happens when I hit power (no display) and my PC does not show the drives when I connect via USB. I have tried vol buttons + power (with battery and [no battery + cable]). Does anyone have any ideas as to what I should try next? Is TMO likely to replace/repair my phone even though it had been rooted?

Have you tried getting into download mode? And what caused the brick?

I was flashing a new ROM and it bricked when it finished flashing. It just never rebooted. I can't get into download mode.

This is really embarassing but I somehow stumbled up WickedRom, which is for the I9100, somehow thought it was for T989, and tried to flash it. Obviously a major league screw up. I have requested a replacement from TMO. I just hope they don't hit me with a major financial penalty if Samsung notices that it has been rooted (it was rooted when I tried flashing WickedRom).

Same thing happened here... I was odining back to stock and the power in my office at work went out... total fail. All Black, no power button, battery pull or Jig will make the phone do anything... anyone find a work around for this... I did this to my VIB before and was able to get it to work again but this just feels bad. Any help is appreciated. Los Angeles area dev's feel free to come play with it.

hey i know im new here but i got the answer... u need 2 odin back 2 stock 4 download mode pull battery plug usb into computer then 2 phone hold vol up and trackpad then insert battery and u will be in download mode also if using CWM dont fix permissions and also dont forget 2 place unzipped recovery file in /system/bin folder and overwrite it over existing file also make sure that cache, data, sdcard ,and system are all unmounted in mounts option of recovery took me 3 days of flashin back 2 stock with odin and soft bricking my phone 2 figure this out hope it helps

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358401
perhaps people should have shown a bit more support?

Your fault !
Damn that sounds bad, big mistake on your part though, differentiating between i9100 and T-989 is key, among the other models too.

Mine did the same thing after doing a backup. I'm in the 30 day grace period and I'm gonna try to take it back in.. Hopefully I get away with it unless I find a way to fix it

Only way is to send it to Samsung or get it JTAG. JTAG will probably be cheaper.

Think I bricked phone using Android kitchen

I restored my phone to stock then made a backup using CMW. I placed the CWM back up in the original_update folder of the android kitchen. Then went into the android kitchen and deodexed, rooted and intalled busy box. Then i built the rom, signed it, placed it on my SD, card booted into recovery, flashed SuperWipe then flashed the rom I made. It installed fine and booted up but i didn't have any signal. So i let it sit for about 5 minutes then Powered off my phone but it stayed at the Good Buy screen for like ten minutes so i pulled the battery, when i tried to boot it back up it wouldn't do any thing. I held the power button down and nothing happened. I tried plugging in a usb cable and my phone still would't do anything Its completely unresponsive
Any suggestions?

I sadly did the same thing. I'm still trying to figure out what I did wrong in the kitchen to brick my phone. Mine powered up as well but upon restart it bricked. But its sad to say but its bricked. I did a warranty exchange. If you connect the phone to the computer it will register as qhsusb_dload and not an Android phone. Best of luck.

Unfortunately I don't have a contract with T-Mobile so i can't do a warranty exchange. I ordered the USB Jig and i'm gunna see if that fixes it, if not I guess it's just a paper weight :\

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if its registering as a ghsusb_dload device, a jig won't work.....how do I know you may ask? Cause I tried that as well before the exchange. Haha. Good news is you can pay someone to jtag your device. I think its like 50-100 but way better than 600 for a new phone. You should be able to find the link around the forums somewhere.

All he have to do is call Samsung and they will replace it you have a year factory warranty as long as theres no physical damage. They send the phone fast. I did it four times already don't waste your time looking for solution just tell them it won't boot just turned off and won't start that's all i said. You don't have to have insurance either.

I can vouch for that cause I've had to swap out my 1st. Maybe not due to that particular reason, but still, if it doesn't light up they gets frustrated and swap time.

I used to have an Epic 4G Touch and yesterday accidentally flashed a kernel for it on my S3. I was left with a beautiful pebble blue coffee table piece. I started to freak out because I couldn't power on or anything. Long story short, I purchased my phone less than 14 days ago so I took it back to the store. The technician took a look at it, couldn't power it on and they gave me a replacement phone, no questions asked!!
I promise if you hard bricked hell or even soft bricked you can get it exchanged from Samsung as long as it's been less than a year and no water damage or cracked screen .I really think they don't look into all the rooting stuff they just install new software in the phone and send it right back out to someone else which works for me.
If you go threw your carrier avoid it they ask to much question call Samsung and i sware they will send you a new or refurbished phone but a working one and that's all you can ask for and i didn't pay a dime the box they send you to send your phone is prepaid by them i just put my bricked phone in there then dropped it off to ups. I will say this two times i wasn't at home and ups left the damn phone in the box right on my door step than goodness no one stole it.

[Q] Galaxy S III Fried

Would appreciate if anyone could help
Bought a brand new Galaxy S III from T-Mobile, a week ago. On the same day I rooted it, using these instructions galaxys3root dot com/galaxy-s3-root/how-to-root-t-mobile-galaxy-s3-sgh-t999/. . . Worked out great.
Then I used this ROM called Deodexed_Debloated_T999UVALEM, and that worked out fine.
Today I decided to use this rom: Criskelo_6.0.1_Stock_XXBLG9_ota
And while it was installing, it asked for an update file, which I did not have.. So I chose the option to reboot the phone. Since then the phone has been practically dead, and here are the symptoms:
1. The phone does not power up, in any mode
2. When connected to the pc, pc cannot recognize it
3. Installed Kies, and drivers, nothing changed
4. Plugged to the charger, and nothing changed
5. Removed the batter for over an hour and repeated the above and nothing changed
Does anyone know what I can to salvage this phone?
Thank you

The problem here is that you flashed an International rom onto a T-Mobile Galaxy S3. The only solution I could think of would be to flash back to stock using Kies but that isn't really possible unless the phone is able to go into download mode.

No , shouldn't take more than 10 seconds.
Sorry to hear that man, but in the future PLEASE RESEARCH before you get flash happy. International version of the GSIII has completely different hardware inside.
You need to stick to T-Mobile GSIII roms, or don't flash them at all. Might be a good candidate for stock rooted, or no root at all.
Pull battery. Put battery back in and hold Vol down, home and power, until it vibrates, then let power go but hold the other two until download mode comes up.
Flashing different carrier ROMs and kernels will result in hard bricking your phone!!! Only flash ROMs and kernals that is for your phone model!!!

Yup... we CAN in fact flash kernels and att roms... its modems/radios from other carriers that shouldn't be flashed. We can also flash some sprint and verizon roms, but as they are CDMA it'll take some more advance modding, to get them to run full and proper... probably a little over the OP's head, but just saying.
Still alls not lost, look into Jtag as others have suggested...
If u hard brickd your phone the $5 usb dongle JTAG will not unbrick it! You need to send it in for a jtage reflash!

Agreed-
Try pulling the battery and waiting a few seconds, then try to reboot. I did something while installing a rom and the phone booted but just showed a black screen but I didn't realize it.

What rom did you flash...be specific...and where did you find it from?
Do you have TMobile PHP? If you do then you can get a replacement S3 for $5 from TMobile customer care. That is probably the easist way to fix this issue.

Reboot into recovery mode and wipe cache, dalvik cache and do a factory reset in recovery.
Do NOT wipe/format system.
Then reboot the phone and it should work fine.

okay i have the same exact problem. i tried to flash darkyrom iii from androidgeeks.com or something like that, and, i also didn't see that it was for the i9300 only and it went through the little setup process from within cwm (like its own little installer) all steps went fine and everything. asked if i wanted to reboot, i touched "no" then the installer closed and brought me back to cwm and cwm decided to just reboot my phone on its own anways. now im waiting for it to boot, nothing. research, take the battery out along with the sim and sd for about 45 minutes. nothing. i plug it into the computer and nothing happens. i take out the battery and plug it into the computer, again to no prevail. so with the battery out and the phone plugged into the computer, i hold power, home and volume down and a red led comes on the phone and the computer makes the "attatched device" sound. but isnt recognized by kies or odin. will a jig help me out at all?
*edit* i got the rom from here; android.gs/update-galaxy-s3-darkyrom-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean/

You are about about the 50th person in the past couple months who done the same thing, flashing a 9300 rom.
The only way to get the phone back into proper working condition is to send it off to be Jtag'ed.
There are some very good deals on Jtag if you go to eBay and search for "JTAG Galaxy S3".
Good Luck!
thank you

Nope, I never had a need to. But I have read here in XDA that people do get excellent service at a good price at eBay.

"ehhhhh.." you know what i mean? plus on top of that im sending in my phone so i just want to make sure everything is from a trusted source.

I Think I Bricked My Phone.. Any Advice?

Hey guys . I Picked up a three month old galaxy this morning. I have had problems rooting before but always managed to fix them but this I cannot figure out. Here is exactly what I did and what happened.
1.First I rooted my phone using GalaxyS3RootUSCanadaMac.
2. Downloaded the following, superuser, ezunlock, and rom manager.
3. Flashed clokworkrecovery through rom manager.
4. Unlocked the bootloader with ezunlock
5. Tried to reboot into recovery via clockwork and it would just hang and never reboot.
6. Decided to do a restart , so I clicked power on the right hand side and selected restart.
7. Fell asleep and woke up to a dead phone.
I cannot get it to boot at all , not even in download mode. I get no lights or vibrations when trying to boot. If I remove the battery and hook the usb cord in I get a red light at the top but not with the battery in.
Any info on what I might have done wrong or what I can try to do to fix it would be great.
Thanks in advance guys.

This is completely inapplicable to the i747m, and the reason your phone's bricked.
Unless you can somehow get into download mode, you're going to need a JTAG to recover it.

Any suggestions n how to get into download mode? Also I have a usb JTAG from programming cable boxes but Im not sure if it will work?
I believe I read about someone else who used this. The unlocker is made for the Verizon variant. You will need JTAG service to get your phone up and running.

That's fraud big time! If you would have read up you wouldnt be in this situation. In all honestly I hope you have to come out of pocket because stunts like this is what makes those who do have REAL problems with their phone get the run around from companies.

Looks like Samsung has come through and is going to warranty it. It was repaired today by having the board replaced. Hopefully I will have it back next week.

That's not fraud? That's called a warranty

Wow. Why can't they people read?? This is the reason companies don't want to to warranty anything because of crap like this.
