Try going into system settings...About device...Status...Scroll all the way to the bottom and check Device status...What does it say?

Kernel

what is the file name of the update you are trying to install?
where did you get it from?

also, try booting into recovery and see if it is stock or custom, just in case someone unrooted thru SuperSU but didn't replace the custom recovery? (might be the same thing as what cmdauria suggested?)

Sounds like it has a custom recovery installed.

I have the same issue. My phone was rooted. Then I unrooted it. Never changed the stock recovery. Tried re-installing three times, fails in seconds. Device status says normal.

After totally powering off your phone you can then get in to recovery by pressing Volume Up, Home and power buttons simultaneously. Does the system recovery screen come up when you do this or does a custom recovery screen appear? It's good to know that some folks are getting the update notice.

That's the system recovery screen. It sounds like there is something wrong with the update itself. I have yet to read/hear that anyone has successfully installed the update. As a matter of fact, you are the first person that I have seen who has indicated that they received the update notice. I definitely have not received one. You may need to check with Sprint technical personnel to see if there is a problem. I know that some carriers are delaying the update to late December because of problems.

Where is the OTA update??????

Ok
The first time it showed up (when activating), it offered the OTA update and I declined. Then I took it home, rooted the phone, and everything went well...
BUT I can't find the OTA update anymore... and the SD card bug is killing me!!!!
Is there any other way of installing it?????
From the main screen
Menu - Settings - System Updates
Check all 4 to see if any updates are available but im pretty sure "HTC software update" was the OTA
Actually go over to android central and download rvu 1.1 its based on the newest ruu with that update included and its still rooted
Btw this should be in general section not development
I know, but it keeps telling me that there is no update available!!!
And I am running
Baseband: 1.39.00.04.26
Build: 1.32.651.1 CL171253 test-keys
Software: 1.32.651.1
And it keeps telling me YOUR PHONE IS UP TO DATE
Is there any way to force it????

But, that ruu is missing may of the included apps (all the sprint and HTC ones, and I need them). Also, it wipes all the information....,
So, no other way?
Besides I read that that particular ruu kills the 4g radio...
So, I am the only one or most of you are running without the OTA update?
I like to root, in fact the wifi tethering is working great, but the SD issue is really annoying....

i too couldn't get the update to re-show up after not accepting it the first time. i went to system updates and tried both htc and firmware, and the OTA update still wouldn't show. Then i enabled wifi, soft reset, and boom, it showed up. Give it a try, worked for me....

If the root changed your recovery you likely won't get OTA's anymore.

Ok, that's what I was suspecting...
So.. what are my options now? Is there a way of getting the updates manually? or is there a way of changing the recovery back or modifying some settings to re-allow updates?
I had the same problem after installing one of the custom firmware images. Never could get the OTA to show up. I ended up installing the stock .6 firmware using the RUU.
Look for the "[ROM]RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.6" thread in EVO 4 Android Development. (sorry, new user account on the forums, it won't let me post links yet).

This morning's OTA failing?

I got a ~17mb OTA update this morning that continues to fail at ~30% during the install (progress bar disappears and the warning triangle pops up for a couple minutes before the tablet reboots and says the update failed). Anyone else running into the same thing?

Ops! I really need to sleep
I had root when i got mine. I got the 17 meg. Then i went in and did a check for updates it gave me the big ics update and that failed at almost 100% saying the WiFi signal was too week even though i was about 2 feet away from the router it may be the update is corrupted. try flashing the newest hc update it may fix your issue.
I think I found a solution: I just installed the stock ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1611696
Ho to:
1. Download the file in the firs post
2. Rename it update.zip and put it in the root of the external SD (you need a MicroSD)
3. Reboot into recovery: turn off, press volume up and keep it pressed, turn on, wait for update to complete
Hope this help ;-)

[Q] Problem with updating to 4.2

Hello there, I have a problem.
I have Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Takju, build JZO54K, version 4.1.2
I'm in Slovakia, O2 provider (don't know if that helps)
Today(November 19) I've got notification that I can update to 4.2 (same thing happened four days ago(November 15)), so I started updating.
I saw the icon of Android guy, with some blue wires or something. Than the icon changed, the Android guy was lying and there was red triangle with exclamation mark in it.
Did it happen to anyone else? Is there some problem with my phone or should I just wait and the update will eventually arrive?
Sorry for my english, and thank you for your help

No. I would like to be updated automatically, I don't want to make it manually if I don't have to. Because I would screw it up.
4.2 Update issue
It could be that the phone isnt accepting the phone over the OTA (OVER THE AIR) ive seen this issue before on android phone usually if it wont take it OTA the only other way flash it manually . you dont necessary have to root phone you can always look for the OTA UNROOTED Image which you can flash through fastboot

Try this.....boot the phone and go to settings >>>apps>>>all>>>>Google frameworks service>>>>>clear the cache AND THEN the data in that order....when you go back to check on the update it'll say last checked 12/31/69 you want to see that and then search for the update....that clears framework and helps pull the update to your device....I've used this method and it worked for me with ICS after 3-4 tries give it a go and let us know what happens

4.1.2 Update Issues (Jelly Bean)

So I believe I updated to the latest firmware update the other day for 4.1.2. The issue im having is when I go to the about device option and click software update it shows "continue update" greyed out so im not able to click. When I click "check for updates" I always get the same message " software update interrupted". I have tried to run this update on wifi and 4g both unsuccessful. From Settings>>About Device do baseband and build still show as MC3? Is kernel dated something prior to August 2013 (I think MC3 was April 2013)? (can you post a screenie?)
Have you made any customizations to your phone - i.e. build.prop tweaks, debloating, freezing of apps, removal of system apps, anything else that might have modified the /system partition? Any of this would cause the OTA process to abort and stall like you have seen.

If you are running the stock recovery, try downloading the CWM package I posted here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449972
Download to your PC and copy to your internal sdcard (the one that shows up as "phone"). Power off phone then boot recovery via home+vol up+power
Then use the side load option to run the CWM zip. If all goes well and your system partition is pure this will update your system, kernel, and modem to MH3. Upon phone boot, your recovery will update to MH3.

Fair point - if you are running a custom recovery, follow the steps above, but run the CWM zip file as you would any other CWM zip from a custom recovery... but from your prior responses, I'm guessing you are running stock recovery and the update process just got confused somewhere... perhaps because one of the stock apps was deleted.
Pay attention when the CWM zip is running.. if it fails you will get an error message showing the file it fails on. I may be able to help you further from there - assuming it's only a file or two that has an issue.

So after months and months of trying to update my phone to I317UCAMH3 I finally got my phone to update to what is now 4.3. Like many of you I tried everything I know how to such as:
-Reverting my phone to 4.1.1 and updating to 4.12 on Kies. same issue
-Resetting the flash counter after performing a data wipe....same issue
-Master reset....same issue
-Going to the Samsung service center and receiving the dumbest answer ever they told me my "cookies" preventing my phone from updating. (biggest idiots ever LOL)
So I was finally able to resolve this issue and receive my updates by switch my wife's sim card from her S3 to my phone and it worked like a charm. So my recommendation is if your having this issue it's more than likely occurring because of a faulty sim card and if you are unable to switch with another phone then go to the ATT store and they will give you a free one. Please let me know if this works for you.

I have an AT&T Note 2 and is unlocked as I moved to Canada. My new carrier is Telus and until recently, around the same time as the KitKat, my great reception went bad. I've confirmed that it is not a hardware issue and appears to be related to updating my phone. For whatever reason I can't update the software on my phone. Kies is of no use and I don't have access to an AT&T sim card to try the new solution. I've tried the hard reset.
I've never rooted the phone and recently reset the phone to resolve the issues. Does anyone have any suggestions?
The version on my phone is I317UCAMA4 and 4.1.2.

I can't tell a thing that this ota did.

I got it too, though I haven't applied it. I'm rooted and running a custom kernel and Clockworkmod recovery, so I was surprised to see the update come through. Now I guess I'll have to look at that stupid icon until my Nexus 6 arrives, as I don't dare apply it and risk losing root.
DO NOT apply this update until someone who knows what they're doing tells us what it is. It's 93mb, and after I applied it on 4.4.2 rooted, I couldn't get past the Galaxy Note II screen. It would freeze at a black screen after that. I had to apply the 4.4.2 firmware again to get the phone to boot. After it booted and i was completely unrooted, I tried the OTA update again, same result, it wouldn't boot past the Galaxy Note II logo screen, just went black and froze, so again I flashed 4.4.2 and rooted the phone.
Not sure why it wouldn't flash when I was unrooted but maybe it has something to do with KNOX being disabled on my phone from SuperSU.

Forgot to say after that I completely disabled the ability for the phone to update. It actually did it without my permission which pissed me off.
Weird. I unrooted back when kitkat came out so I could have working tap and pay for Google wallet. When I applied yesterday's update it worked perfectly. Whatever it is, it's invisible to a stock phone.
Btw, I too am waiting for the the nexus 6 I preordered last night.

Is there a way to make it stop reminding me about the update?

Tap and pay works with root. Weird that an Ota came out for this device now.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
Just got this update as well. I am a unrooted phone(never rooted this phone yet) not sure what the ota did though. maybe security update or something back end with att
Ugh. Tapped too quickly and applied the OTA on my rooted phone. Phone won't get past the boot logo. Shuts off. Dammit!
Any options other than wiping and starting over?
Sorry should have been more clear. Tap and pay does not work with aosp roms, which you need root to flash.

A small update from att suddenly
Hello Devs,
I am a Galaxy Note 2 user (ATT SGH i317) and i have recently rooted my cellphone and i was wondering what i should do to install OTA updates. I got an OTA update and while trying to install it my teamwin recovery boots up when the phone is being restarted. So how do i install the new updates. Please help.
what did you do to return to stock?
GN3 rom
I went to downloadandroidrom.com website to download the stock recovery but they have all stock recovery except ATT. so i am still looking for a website to download stock recovery for att and once you have it flash it using twrp and whie restarting just press volume up + home + power key and when the phone starts release powerkey while still holding the other two keys . this should completely get rid of twrp and install stock. but of you have a link to get the stock recovery for att please do post. i would appretiate it.

nvm, I reread the instructions and realized that I was warned that this would happen.... after advancing the date 1 day as suggested everything worked flawlessly.
I have posted a fix for those of you who got bricked by this update: see http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...t2939649/page2. I give detailed instructions on how to fix it.
Please spread the word.
