This morning's OTA failing? - Acer Iconia Tab A100

I got a ~17mb OTA update this morning that continues to fail at ~30% during the install (progress bar disappears and the warning triangle pops up for a couple minutes before the tablet reboots and says the update failed). Anyone else running into the same thing?

What rom are you on?
Was it ICS?
Was it HC?
Were you rooted?
Is your bootloader unlocked?
Did you have a modified build.prop?
Point is...we would need a lil more info before you could be assisted in any fashion...

Got my ota to ICS this morning and it went perfect. ICS 4.0.3 Build is Acer_AV041_A100_1.014.00_WW_GEN1. Cant see any improvment in performance but will check speaker volume with ear buds which was my biggest complaint. Will try to figure out the Acer Ring later. DS

Found the way to un-root, but I got the same problem with the update
Any idea?

I tryed a Hard Reset but nothing to do.. I think the only way is to write at acer support

That's what I'm thinking reading the other responses. I'll try removing root after work when I can get to my tablet again (it's flush mounted in the dash of my car) and see if that fixes it.

Ops! I really need to sleep

I had root when i got mine. I got the 17 meg. Then i went in and did a check for updates it gave me the big ics update and that failed at almost 100% saying the WiFi signal was too week even though i was about 2 feet away from the router it may be the update is corrupted. try flashing the newest hc update it may fix your issue.

I think I found a solution: I just installed the stock ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1611696
Ho to:
1. Download the file in the firs post
2. Rename it update.zip and put it in the root of the external SD (you need a MicroSD)
3. Reboot into recovery: turn off, press volume up and keep it pressed, turn on, wait for update to complete
Hope this help ;-)

Whats the new "Android System Update"?

I just got an android 48.6MB software push on my phone today, anyone know what it is? for that matter where are the software pushes stored?
Perhaps the new EK02 update? It has been push for the past days system wide.
Use the search button, it is your friend...
Either way, its an update to get rid of the LOS issues people were having among other bug fixes. and as far as i know, it is stored in /cache
Didnt see it in /cache unless its hidden, thank you for reply it was EK02
Does anyone know how this would trouble rooting?
I know that I had been rooted, I applied the update (since I knew it was coming and what it was for), error message popped up and phone locked. As a result I used CWM and restored an old backup and sure enough everything is fine. Unrooted, factory reset, applied update. I am good.
Now how do I root? Can I root? What root method? I have been using the ZedoMax 4.1 root with Odin but I am not sure that this is the best root out there. Would any of these revert the update?
Thanks!
Booo 2.3.6/EK02 didnt fix shutter, focus sound now, I still wake the baby up if I take a photo. Is there a Non-Root kill for this that works 100% because I notice if you use the barcode scanner app it doesnt make a shutter noise.
hello all,
Can I do apply this update..?
I ask you because, my phone are only unlocked...I use my phone on Mexico
NOTE: The phone not ROOTED..!!
I waiting your response....

theres some app for no shutter sound, it acutally might be called that no shutter cant remember..
If not, just flash a rom that has camera sounds removed?
So, I'm on Blazer ROM and I'm getting the update push. Will it brick me if I update? I seriously don't need that at the moment so its in my best interest to figure that out first before I go ahead.
Did anyone else try to update theirs? I have EK02 and Starburst 1.9.8. I just want to make sure this won't brick my phone or do any damage. I'm away from home for another three weeks and I wanna make sure this update won't make mine a useless piece of crap.
Annoying that root ed people are getting the update push as well...
Does that mean it's tied to your acct?
Should probably expect more of these in the future...I wouldn't install it on a root ed phone...
...
Has anyone on a rooted Epic 4G Touch ran this update? And if so, did it unroot or brick anybody? I'm getting tired of getting the update notification pop-up.. I'm either going to follow the guide to removing it, or run the update, depending on any official word that it won't screw up my customized phone... I certainly don't want to have to redo everything.
Thanks in advance!
I tried to run the update it restarted my phone and it give me a explanation mark with green android icon. wtf does that mean??? I restarted the phone now the update message doesn't even pop up assuming it updated it???
Android version : 2.3.4
Kernel: 2.6.35.7 zedomax
hardware version: d710.10
buildnumber: midnight rom 2.0
I blindly installed the OTA yesterday.
I had Rooted stock version of 2.3.4.
Now I have Rooted 2.3.6.
Looked up information all yesterday and all I could see was LOS fix and system RAM was increased by decreasing the OS requirements (somehow). Some people said this
made their phone perform faster.
Right away I noticed I had to reset all my bluetooth connected devices.
No other problems were noticed. I am still rooted, woohoo.
Just tried installing this on the latest Blazer Rom (not the beta one) and got a error after restarting. It then booted into Team Rogue recovery and I rebooted the phone and now it dosen't ask me for a update. My baseband version is eg30 and kernel is ek02. Don't think I am doing something wrong, if I am can someone tell me

Well I think it's a good thing it didn't ask me because I didn't want the update considering I like my ROM. The update only fixes LoS issues and other problems. You can actually find the updated kernel on these forums and flash it to your phone if you have problems with signal otherwise the update really doesn't do much.
You can also flash to Blazer Rom EL13 beta rom and it will improve your data speeds but users have reported slower WiFi speeds. It also gets rid of the update message since its the latest update. ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)
TL;DR: The update is useless unless you have LoS issues.

[Q] Failed OTA upgrade to ICS

Hi, I will try to be as consice and thorough as possible since I looked for it but didn´t find a similar post.
I bought a USA's A100. I had it with its factory rom, rooted and working fine.
The last week I saw an OTA upgrade and applied it (a short file) thinking it was to migrate to ICS. Then, after reset, it showed me a larger OTA upgrade: Acer_A100_041.202.01_COM_GEN2 (right now it's at HC 3.2.1 A100_2.013.02_COM_GEN2). First it gave me the known network problem message, but finally I downloaded and applied the OTA file, it failed showing an android with an exclamation point, and after one minute, reset itself to the menctioned HC.
I've downloaded and tried the same file several times with different scenarios. I even restored factory defaults via settings->privacy menu. All without success.
I found that the reset method menctioned here (power button + volume up) doesn't work for me: and as soon as it boot into recovery mode (a small console at top left with some text lines and an android with gears working) I get the warning sign with the exclamation point again and after a minute, it goes back into HC.
Any ideas on how to fix it to try the upgrade to ICS again?
I made some progress
I found that the power buttom + volumen up is for entering into recovery mode, which doesn't work in my case. I also found a hard reset method: power buttom + volume down + moving the lock switch while booting. It gives me similar results to settings->privacy->restore factory settings. Now I'm shure my bootloader is working fine.
So the question turns into: what can I do to make my tablet take the OTA upgrade from 3.2.1 GEN2 to 4.0.3 GEN2?
Thanks

Downgrade to GEN1.. and then go to ICS...it would help. In Acer's own words... few GEN2 builds have compatibility issues with updates...
remove root
To update you a100 you need not to be root... it happened to me and i did a full restore hc rom without root... after 2 updates ICS arrives...
good luck

Maybe, but in one hand I read that some people downgraded from 3.2.1 GEN2 to 3.2 GEN1 to receive "your device is up to date" (sort of) messages, and on the other hand, why would acer/google push an invalid/incompatible update to my device? It doesn´t make sense.
Anyways, I´ve captured the pushed OTA 2.013.02_COM_GEN2 update.zip to 041.202.01_COM_GEN2, put it on my external_sd, but it didn´t take it. So I am collecting updates.zip from over this forum, but so far 2.007.4 or 2.013.04 doesn´t work for me either.
[Update]
So, will try downloading 3.2 GEN1 1.014.08 to try later 3.2.1 GEN1 and finally 4.0.3 GEN1 to see if it works for me.
It seems that there may be some GEN1`s that are not getting updated.
I am running stock, no root.

ICS Update
I had the same problem. This is what I did.
Turned off the Automatically check for system updates.
Then pressed check now and that found the updates.
There is no way to flash without external_sd ?
If i enter in Recovery mode it found a update.zip (i think it's the 17mb update) and start to flash but end with error.. then.. where is the update.zip which it found ?
if i try to search update.zip by adb
Code:

Yes. You can re-apply it as long as is HC, ICS is another stuff, WIP for what I read.
Anyways, going back to the original post:
I was able to downgrade from 3.2.1 GEN2 to 3.2 GEN1 to start over from 3.2.1 GEN1 to a newer 3.2.1 GEN1, and finally to ICS PA_CA GEN1. It was all OTA. Sweet, until it boot the new OS. Now I don´t have spanish GUI, only Canadian English & French as well as something I think means Chinese (2).
How do I add a new language support to ICS?, and
Anyone found how to root ICS? (which problably I will need).
Im running Acer_A100_2007. 02_COM_GEN2, and just got back notification of a 227 mb update. Downloaded, installed, but mid way through the screen with the green android logo with the turning gears, it rebooted. But it rebooted into this version of HC (to be honest, I'm not sure if it was a different version before), and it says I'm up to date...
Did i just fail my ics update too, or did acer release a huge HC update?
Hi,
Finaly, i have ICS but not without issue :
I was on 2.013.03_PA_CA and each time i downloaded ICS (don't remember the version but it was a PA_CA with 192.56 Mo or something like) the procedure fails at about 25%.
After 6 or 7 failure i decided to downgrade to HC GEN1 (don't remember the version) and i continued to upgrade my A100 until ICS.
And all was without issue. Now i have ICS ACER_AV041_A100_1.017.00_PA_CA
I think PA_CA is linked to the serial number ( like IMEI for my phone P970 : LG give me only update from my GSM provider)
In fine, thanks to the forum for helping me.

I don´t think so. My unit was originally a COM_GEN2. I switched into a GEN1, and in the end I was also given the PA_CA upgrade. So what I see is Acer/google are giving us differential upgrade files based upon the original firmware, and that lead us in one direction or another (some working some not, BTW).

You will lose root but you can reroot using the ICS rooting method by ZeroNull in the dev section. I've rooted all the ICS this way including the leaked 9,12,14 and the official OTA. I've also been able to go back and forth to any version even to HC (requires hard reset) by doing the manual flash.

[Q] primoc cdma kernel crash (all kernels)

RESOLVED
I ran the RUU for my phone, re-ran the update and am stable on 1.08.652.11 710RD
Original post:
I'm getting a consistent kernel crash on all kernels, stock, etc. after the latest HTC update for sprint-vm cdma. Basically, I can get any rom to boot, after about 10-30 seconds, kernel crashes causing the phone to reboot.
I've attached the dmsg log that contains the crash information.
I'm not sure what I can do to fix this issue, as it appears to be a firmware problem. Thoughts?

Stock kernel and all custom roms, ICS and JB have the same exact result. This is why I'm suspicious that this was a bad firmware update. I've read several posts about spontaneous reboots, but most people don't know about dmesg, so I don't have anything to compare to.

Yes, this is the same behaviour. I'm not sure if you're able to dump the dmsg stuff from adb, but certainly same crash. Typically the phone network status shows a little x, right before the reboot. But the lagginess starts happening when the 5 second kernel reboot is issued.
I've tried to change to airplane mode, disable sdcard and everything else I can think of, still crashing and I'm not able to make much of the logging info

Yes, completely back to stock. Unfortunately, I didn't create a backup of the stock image that booted after the OTA update was applied I just restored pre-OTA rom, cwm recovery and boot.img. Everything appeared to be working fine after the update on the stock ROM. However, I didn't leave it on long enough to confirm if the crash issue existed then. Just checked the version info to confirm the update had been applied and rebooted.
UPDATE
I'm going to go through the process again with the RUU and see if I can boot something stable.

Confirmed RUU -> Update worked the second time. This is probably the safest method. This appeared to work initially, but clearly did not. Thanks for all the feedback!
I can't get any non-stock rom to boot after applying the OTA update. Well ok it boots but loops after about 10-15 seconds.
I have to RUU it and not apply the update to get any non-stock rom to work.

I applied the OTA update. Only the stock kernel (after update) will boot now. Any non-stock kernel crashes - always seems the last line is rmt_storage, which the IPC to shared memory of the boot loader I believe.
Noob question
wendall911 said:
Yes, completely back to stock. Unfortunately, I didn't create a backup of the stock image that booted after the OTA update was applied I just restored pre-OTA rom, cwm recovery and boot.img. Everything appeared to be working fine after the update on the stock ROM. However, I didn't leave it on long enough to confirm if the crash issue existed then. Just checked the version info to confirm the update had been applied and rebooted.
UPDATE
I'm going to go through the process again with the RUU and see if I can boot something stable.

Can you link me to a working RUU?
i got my one v primoc back in the beginning of summer, but then something fell on it and cracked the screen super bad but i loved the phone so much that i bought another at the end of october. i unlocked, wiped, and flashed JB roms... which seemed to work fine for a while & then would have issues of staying stuck in roaming. i've tried different roms. i never had this issue with my first one v... could my new one have the update already when i bought it? i ran the RUU football posted and was able to boot the stock rom... but right away it goes into roaming again, with my phone not even recognizing that it's using a VM service.
real confused...

Yes it's possible that you got one with the update already on it however the problem you are having is completely different than the problem we're describing in this thread and could be caused by many other things - not necessarily the OTA update.
Seems a bit off topic for this thread...
More of the rebooting problem
I have 2 phones one with this problem, the other without it. My friend got one of these phones after i installed jelly bean on mine. He had it long enough to have updated the firmware using the stock image. I made a backup of the stock image, but it seems to have been corrupted (zero byte .zip file). I need to get the phone working (stock or updated, at this point there is no preference so long as it works)
In the bootloader, the radio version of the crashing one is:
1.00.00.0928
The working one is:
1.00.00.0521_2
As far I can tell, this is the only difference. I Used the same SD card and the same procedure for wipe/installing the OS with the same files.
Have you found a solution to this? If so, can you point me to the downloads/instructions for how to fix it?
Looking for help

RESOLVED
I ran the RUU for my phone, re-ran the update and am stable on 1.08.652.11 710RD
I'm not sure what I can do to fix this issue, as it appears to be a firmware problem. Thoughts?

[Q] Problem with updating to 4.2

Hello there, I have a problem.
I have Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Takju, build JZO54K, version 4.1.2
I'm in Slovakia, O2 provider (don't know if that helps)
Today(November 19) I've got notification that I can update to 4.2 (same thing happened four days ago(November 15)), so I started updating.
I saw the icon of Android guy, with some blue wires or something. Than the icon changed, the Android guy was lying and there was red triangle with exclamation mark in it.
Did it happen to anyone else? Is there some problem with my phone or should I just wait and the update will eventually arrive?
Sorry for my english, and thank you for your help
problem updating to 4.2
Are you rooted?

No. I would like to be updated automatically, I don't want to make it manually if I don't have to. Because I would screw it up.
4.2 Update issue
It could be that the phone isnt accepting the phone over the OTA (OVER THE AIR) ive seen this issue before on android phone usually if it wont take it OTA the only other way flash it manually . you dont necessary have to root phone you can always look for the OTA UNROOTED Image which you can flash through fastboot

I was hoping that more people would have the same problem so I can find a solution, but if it's just me, than there is not much hope.
Also i would check ur baseband(radio) to see of its up too date the lastest i believe is XXLF1

Try this.....boot the phone and go to settings >>>apps>>>all>>>>Google frameworks service>>>>>clear the cache AND THEN the data in that order....when you go back to check on the update it'll say last checked 12/31/69 you want to see that and then search for the update....that clears framework and helps pull the update to your device....I've used this method and it worked for me with ICS after 3-4 tries give it a go and let us know what happens

I did that and the same thing happened again. The problem is not in that I don't see the updated, problem is that it won't install. Updating starts and about halfway through the red triangle appears and I'm screwed.
I'm really depressed now

I didn't do anything yet. I want to try the radio update, but I'm too afraid I'll screw it up so I do nothing :<

I received the D851 10m OTA today. Some questions.

I apologize, I posted this in the wrong forum. Feel free to delete, I can't figure out how (I can only edit when I press the edit/delete button).

I have rooted, and I have xposed installed.
What is the upgrade procedure? Do I need to go so far as to remove root? Any advice appreciated.
Thanks!

Don't update it. More than likely if you have twrp and root it will loop. I did mine this morning and it looped it. I had to factory reset with the lg tool. Just wait it out. The update isn't that serious.
Hey Danon, where did get the LG tool to factory reset? i feel victim to the same damn thing. Need to reset mine now.

First off, this question belongs in the Q&A not development
BUT. Regarding root, you never want to apply an OTA update, you never know if they could patch any rooting exploit and or lock the bootloader. Someone will most likely pull the update from the device and make us a flashable zip that will preserve root.
So for now do nothing at all
I have no intention of installing this update but how do I get rid of the persistent notification? It's annoying me.

Once you get the process down it takes about 7 minutes. I would advise you to do it with Windows 7 if you can.

I know on my S4 i337m when running the Google Play Edition ROM I modified this line in the build prop to the same line from the build prop in that update.
ro.build.fingerprint=samsung/jgedlteue/jgedlte:4.4.4/KTU84P.S001/140602:user/release-keys
I'm assuming it would work on ours too if anyone has their phone updated and can post that (ro.build.fingerprint) line from their build prop.
Is there anyone that maybe posted an update we can flash on our Rooted/Non Stock Recovery phones?

Longpress on notification then turn off notification.
I encountered same problem and used the following to go back to bone stock (reroot required if you did).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/general/firmware-t-mobile-lg-g3-t2818667
Before entering download mode, make sure you unplug USB cable, remove the battery and put it back in, press and hold the volume button and plug in USB cable, and relax.
This method won't wipe your phone.
Not that big of a change with this update, just 'Wi-Fi Calling Enhancements'

Lol right, Was hoping for a new radio still getting a lot of drops through out the day.
I wonder if it has anything to do with the updates coming to wifi calling?

How come my cache folder is empty? I'm using es file explorer and i have my settings set to show hidden files. I even ran a search for the update.zip and the lg .apk someone listed and i can't find either off them.
Im using root explorer and went cache and just renamed the file to .bk
---------- Post added at 04:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:16 AM ----------
Do you have the notification for the update
I installed root explorer and found the file but it wouldn't let me rename or delete it. It said it was successful but didn't actually work.
