I have rooted, and I have xposed installed.
What is the upgrade procedure? Do I need to go so far as to remove root? Any advice appreciated.
Thanks!

Don't update it. More than likely if you have twrp and root it will loop. I did mine this morning and it looped it. I had to factory reset with the lg tool. Just wait it out. The update isn't that serious.
Hey Danon, where did get the LG tool to factory reset? i feel victim to the same damn thing. Need to reset mine now.

First off, this question belongs in the Q&A not development
BUT. Regarding root, you never want to apply an OTA update, you never know if they could patch any rooting exploit and or lock the bootloader. Someone will most likely pull the update from the device and make us a flashable zip that will preserve root.
So for now do nothing at all
I have no intention of installing this update but how do I get rid of the persistent notification? It's annoying me.

Once you get the process down it takes about 7 minutes. I would advise you to do it with Windows 7 if you can.

I know on my S4 i337m when running the Google Play Edition ROM I modified this line in the build prop to the same line from the build prop in that update.
ro.build.fingerprint=samsung/jgedlteue/jgedlte:4.4.4/KTU84P.S001/140602:user/release-keys
I'm assuming it would work on ours too if anyone has their phone updated and can post that (ro.build.fingerprint) line from their build prop.
Is there anyone that maybe posted an update we can flash on our Rooted/Non Stock Recovery phones?

Longpress on notification then turn off notification.
I encountered same problem and used the following to go back to bone stock (reroot required if you did).

Before entering download mode, make sure you unplug USB cable, remove the battery and put it back in, press and hold the volume button and plug in USB cable, and relax.
This method won't wipe your phone.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the updates coming to wifi calling?

Do you have the notification for the update
I installed root explorer and found the file but it wouldn't let me rename or delete it. It said it was successful but didn't actually work.

I just got the notification for it, but I don't want to risk anything. Is it good to go?
no, before this gets moved, not good to go. don't flash it. you will lose root
seems like you will lose the root...
but some have posted that even after the ota update... the current root process will still work.
Strange. Thanks, guys.
You'd loose your root.

I rooted did OTA and still seemed to have root access. Just re-rooted and it seems cool flashing stock rom in a second I guess to confirm
Ok I didnt flash a rom but it is letting me do data wipes and all other functions it seems cool!
Flipz confirmed my successful Re-root looks like OTA is safe!
I rooted mine BEFORE the OTA upgrade.. and it stayed rooted after.. -m
I'm not taking any chances. The other dev team is supposed to release their root and it may be more complete than what we have now. No reason to take a chance on an update that isn't totally critical.
I just tried it.. it appears to fail, reboots, and you're still on 1.32.651.1.

Let me correct this.. The OTA update did not work.. (I stayed at the old software version after trying to apply it.. but root stayed around..)
NOW has anyone managed to place the SD card fix on here manually?
-mark
Yes please. Just update.zip that goodness please. I am sure a complete SuperFresh Rom is on its way.
Well i guess I got this all backwards
I didnt know any better when I got the phone in the store, and I did the update...
then decided to root it.... did the process....
it worked.... but then I had the insufficient permissions on the SD card issue...
after reading a bunch of yea's and nay's on OTA update
I finally made the decision to just due the OTA update cuz I that SD card issue really bugged me...
I did the OTA update, the phone did this funny thing where its showing a green progress bar and then in the middle of it, a red question mark pops up as if it were saying " what the hell is this??" lol
it rebooted... and phone came back online, and now my SD card isnt having the same issue anymore...
UPDATE: Its back.... so now what do I do? Is there any way I can include all my info and settings and apps in a custom recovery cuz if i have to do this again im gonna freak. lol

your having the same problem as me... the update failed.. which is why were waiting on a way to manually apply the update.
OTA worked perfectly. And I get root access
I still haven't gotten the OTA...no matter how many times I manually "check now" in HTC Software Updates, it does not show up. I don't know why this is happening, it's very odd. I'm waiting for someone to cook the update into a custom, or rather stock, ROM. It's driving me insane at the moment, not to mention a bunch of apps are missing from the market (a whole other issue in it's own right). If anyone has an update.zip I can flash or a way to fix this, please please please let me know. Thanks.
I wasn't getting the OTA notification either until I enabled WiFi, then restarted the phone. Worked perfectly after that. Didn't even have to go to system updates.

Figured someone should start a thread now that its out. I had this update waiting for me this morning when I woke up. Had to replace some modified system files and then took the update. Lost root of course.
Points of note on ZVD:
Do not accept an OTA update with custom recovery or rom installed. If you have modified system files the stock files must be put back. Failure to consider this will lead you to problems you dont need. You can always .tot your device if necessary before taking the OTA, or wait (and be patient) for Devs to develop their roms to support zvd.
It does not include wifi calling.
ART Runtime is now available as an option in the Developer Menu.
It enables Knock Code.
You can reroot with ioroot 25 after update.
There were other fixes listed on Android central including:
A Google Patch
Improvements for group messaging
HD Voice Icon
Updated Email Signature
http://m.androidcentral.com/sprint-lg-g2-update-brings-knocking
I also noticed that Auto Brightness is not switching brightness up and down randomly all over the place and stays pretty well fixed but low intensity even at 100% with auto brightness enabled. Also of note is my battery draining really fast today after I updated and several restarts. Android system seemed to be running away over 28% battery usage but it seems to have settled down. Im gonna recalibrate my battery just be sure anyways. I always do after updates.
ZVD thread. Have at it!

I read this along time ago so hopefully Im retelling it correct. Here's what I do:
Let the phone batt run down and phone shut off completely.
Plug it in and leave the phone off till it charges to 100%.
Turn it on use phone as normal thru the day. Try not to power cycle the phone at all.
Let the batt run down again and phone shut off.
Again plug it in while off and charge to 100%.
Turn on phone with it still plugged in and when the LG screen comes up unplug it.
Your batt is now calibrated.
My G2 is stuck!
I took the ZVD update about 10 minutes ago and once the phone rebooted im suck in TWRP...what am I doing wrong??
your suppose to be fully stock to take the update. in you have a nandbackup use it now. btw i rooted using ioroot manually and installed the twrp recovery using autorec. also for some reason knock on doesnt work for me anymore. worked before zvd

I read something about renaming the otacerts.zip file to something like otacerts.zip.bak OR move it to an entirely different spot(External SD Card) OR delete it. As apparently that is what gives the notifications. Afterwards you'll have to do the update(It'll refuse to run, no info file available) and then just clear it, you won't see it again.
If I recall right on what I read though, been a couple of weeks since then, somebody else wanted to know on here as well. Just look into it and do some search
Oh and it'll be the /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip file

Why would it "blow" up or turn into a "brick"
If you're concerned about the S-OFF and being Rooted, it has no effect on the OTA. You just need to make sure that you have stock ROM i.e didn't flash a custom ROM(ARHD, Viper etc) and that you have stock recovery.
Being S-OFF or rooted won't prevent the OTA, after the OTA though you will lose root, but you can root again by just booting Philz custom recovery and flashing the root .zip like before.

solved disable ota update notification
In order to use this. you should be rooted with superuser rights for this app.
Download "Disable Service" app from play store. (sorry xda doesnt allow me to share the link for the app as i have posted less than 10 post)
Install app and open it.. Go to System App - check systemupdateservice...... then close the app.
Click on the system update notification and press install and then back button. Then restart your mobile..
This method will stop the notification after the restart.
Hi guys,
So i just downloaded and installed the latest T-mobile update and now my phone is slower.
Every time I hit the home button, the image blinks and redraws and there's just a hint of stutter.
The app drawer also takes a little longer now.
What the heck?
It used to be so zippy and fast. How do I fix it, anyone know?

Try disabling hw overlays in developers options to help with that redraw stutter. Remember you have to set it everytime you boot, unless you're booted with xposed installed, then you could download the module that keeps it active at all times.
This seems to have helped a lot of people with your issue.
Thank you.

Did you take the ota or download one of the twrp upgrades floating around? Either way in your situation you probably need to do a factory reset. Alternatively follow the twrp method HERE if you haven't already and I can personally guarantee a better than ota install. If you want it to be done correctly to fix any problems you need to wipe the system and data partitions before flashing. Also don't forget to download super su if you want to keep root (linked in guide). There is another upgrade twrp file in the development section I think that is not a perfect 1:1 image and could give problems. Not saying that particular rom is bad or that it is the problem, its just not a 1:1 like the guide I linked you to it is directory/installer script dependent. The one I made transfers the whole untouched partition over and inside has all the symlinks and permissions preset by LG.
Factory Reset
I feel like a moron because mine hasn't updated automatically from 4.4.4. Any way to force the Lollipop update? I already checked and have the 24 wait period in effect. Thanks!
Happened to me as well. Go into settings, time and date, uncheck the automatic date/time function and move the date 1 day ahead. I would reboot the phone just in case, and check it again.

Weird - just did all that and it still says software is up to date. Any other suggestions?
Called AT&T to see if they could push Lollipop to my device. No dice. Tried the "move ahead one calendar day" trick, but it didn't work. Now it shows that I can't check again for 702 hours. Ha! Any other suggestions? Maybe it just hadn't rolled out to everyone yet. I'm in Chicago, if that matters.
If you don't have an issue wiping your data then you can use the stock Odin file in the general sub to flash it back to stock and update again.
I had my wife's phone updated with a push from AT&T. She had the same issue. They have to file a ti let and tech department did it but took a few days.

I haven't really messed around with root stuff in a while, but I know even without root we used to be able to download the update, put it in the root or the SD card and rename it update.zip . Does this not work anymore? I really thought there would be a way to force the update somehow..

That would work if someone has captured the zip file or the download URL, which no one has done. Virtually every 5.0.1 related thread has someone asking for this, with the same response. No one has it, and if they did, it would be available in a stickied post.
Oh the woes of waiting for updates lol.
I remember with my OG moto droid waiting for 2.1 lol.
And how 2.2 blew my mind. Now look at it.
i had to flash oem kitkat to my att note 4, which right after the flash immediately got lollipop.
if you do got to the Samsung kiosk have them re-flash kitkat. then the download for lollipop will update after setup.
Force update to marshmallow?
Hi, absolute idiot when it comes to stuff like this.
So, i was searching through my apps list when i noticed AT&T software update.
I dont need any AT&T applications as i am in Australia and do not have AT&T.
i have tried to force an update by following the clearing data and force stopping the Google services frame work.
tried it multiple times, nothing.
Then i thought i could disable the app of the AT&T software update, and then i fell deeper into the rabbit hole of how OSPolice got in trouble and how there is 2 versions of package disabler pro.
So here i am, stuck with 5.1.1 and i have no idea what to do.
No, i am not going to root it. This is an AT&T phone, with a bootlocker on it. If anyone, *ANYONE*, can help me solve this small issue that would be much appreciated.
