Nokia Lumia 900 may not support T-Mobile 3G after all.

Pocketnow has recently leaked specs for the Lumia 900. Among them is that the Lumia 900 will support the 1700MHz band.
It has concluded that the Lumia 900 will then support UMTS 3G for T-Mobile USA.
On closer inspection, however, this not be the case. You see, AT&T uses AWS for LTE, but not for UMTS.
We will take a look at the HTC Vivid and Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket (the only two LTE phone for AT&T at the moment) as examples. Both of these handsets uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
Both handsets support the 1700 Mhz band for LTE, but not for UMTS and as a result will not work on T-Mobile's UMTS network.
In addition, there has been little evidence that there exist Snapdragon processor that support pentaband.
As a result of this whole investigation and to the dismay of many T-Mobile customers, I have to conclude that the Lumia 900 will likely NOT support T-Mobile 3G.

That is not correct... T-mobile uses the AWS band (1700/2100) for it's UMTS network.
AT&T has never used the AWS band and after the failed merger is required to give some of it's AWS spectrum to T-Mobile as compensation. AT&T uses the 700 MHz band for it's LTE network.
If I remember correctly, there are no integrated LTE radios curently. The current crop of LTE phones have a separate LTE radio to complement the GSM/UMTS radio therefore, if the Ace actually does comes with a pentaband radio, it still is possible the AWS band will support T-Mobile's AWS UMTS network.

You are both right, at&t uses both the 700MHz and 1700MHz bands for its LTE network, as mentioned in this article http://www.theverge.com/2011/12/16/2640728/pantech-p9070-att-lte-850mhz-fcc. Remains to be seen what the 900 actually supports but if it was designed with the falied merger with Tmo in mind the 1700 band may not be used for LTE but could have been intended for Tmo compatibility. The 710 coming to Tmo next week has support for at&t's network so its possible the 900 was designed with the same intent. We'll know soon enough.

As you can see, the HTC Vivid support AWS, but only for LTE.
I hope that I am wrong for the sake of all the T-Mobile users that want the Lumia 900.

I am relatively new to WP7, and I am looking for a new high end device.
Since my country only has 3G, is there an (upcoming) device that is on par with the Lumia 900 that supports 3G?

Don't worry. I am 99.99% sure that the Lumia 900 will be available in Europe.

According this report, AT&T will get a 900. Looks like I might get the chance to play with one.

Not exactly limit, but no HSDPA data access. Only EDGE/GPRS.

This is a huge disappointment. I want to like keep using WP7 but the hardware restrictions hobble the device makers too much. Nokia was the biggest proponents of pentaband but now they can't even support it due to chipset restrictions. It really puts a big hurdle in front of my decision to buy their phone when it requires me to use a carrier that costs twice as much and has data caps.
If this was pentaband I'd probably choose it above the Galaxy Nexus, but as it stands owning this phone would mean an extra $40 a month on my phone bill.

T-Mobile users need not worry though. T-Mobile is adding 1900MHz spectrum for HSPA+.

Ah well, what you're going to do?
T-Mobile always seems stuck with the low-end crap simply because they don't have the money to purchase exclusivity for the good stuff.
Makes me just want to sign up for their hotspot and start getting international unlocked phones instead and forget the whole idea of carrier branded phones.

They didn't stop using pentaband until they started developing WP7 phones and were forced to use chipsets that don’t support pentaband.

The Nokia 710 has quad band UMTS frequencies and it uses the exact same chipset as the other 2nd gen WP7 devices so its definitely possible for Nokia to at least inclde support for both US carriers, though not pentaband. This was obviously a deliberate decision to make it at&t compabible only.

sorry for the nooby question but i have been w8 a long time for the note 3 and now that its finally coming i feel left out.. i use wind and i really like it but they wouldn't give me any useful information about their plans for note 3. so i'm looking for help here, t-mobile has the preorder open and i was thinking of getting that, i live in canada so would i be able to preorder from t-mobile?? if it is would that note 3 work with wind?? and what model is t-mobile selling. thanks

The TMo, Wind, Mobi version is the best in terms of using in other carriers' networks. That is not only in terms of the radio but traditionally, T Mo has not locked the bootloader. It's my undertanding the TMo version will come SIM-unlocked too.

It refers to the following 4 frequencies: 850, 900, 1800, 1900 Mhz. The frequencies are not universally supported by the world's carriers. In North America, the 850 and 1900 are used, while Europe for example uses 900 and 1800. Usage in other regions vary. But to have "quad band GSM" capability means global compatibility, at least on 2G networks, and is therefore desirable.
GSM itself and closely associated technologies EDGE and GPRS (if it's GSM, then EDGE and GPRS are automatically implied) is also referred to 2G that preceded the 3G and 4G we are now using but backward compatible with 2G. Thus 3G and 4G phones such as the Galaxy Note 3 we are talking about here will work on the AT&T GSM network (which by the way uses 850 and 1900 Mhz frequencies) in addition to (I think this is your confusion) to AT&T's 3G and 4G frequencies.
Any modern, unlocked phones nowadays that has GSM capability will be quad band. So 2G is not an issue - any version of the phone will work on any carrier's 2G network. However, if you want to use AT&T's 3G and 4G network, you have to get a version of the phone that supports AT&T's 3G and/or 4G network. Only AT&T's version of the Note 3 (as well as T-Mobile's version for reasons pointed out above) will wholly work on AT&T's 3G and 4G networks.
In summary - I'm not sure if this is the question you wanted answered - yes the T Mo version will work on the entire AT&T 2G (GSM), 3G (UMTS/WCDMA/HSPA) and 4G (LTE) networks - whatever voice or data capabilities your AT&T plan requires. But the T Mo version has to be SIM (carrier) unlocked. From what I understand, this is the case.

WIND has traditionally used whatever version T-Mobile has used as they were exactly compatible with the WIND network and because WIND is too small of a company to impose their own specification on Samsung. They use the closet matching US model just like Bell, Rogers and Telus would use the AT&T version. Click on my link to [Q] Which USA Note 3 Variant to get? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45794297#post45794297 and you will see the various model numbers of the Note 3. The "T" version is what WIND should carry (T for T Mobile surprise surprise) although the WIND Note 3 may come in their own orange retail box. Please note that WIND has traditionally SIM (carrier) locked their phones - you probably already know this but that means if you take it to the US, it'll roam on T-Mobile with WIND billing you. But if you did want to insert a T Mobile SIM, then you'd have to unlock it which, although can be done, would invalidate the warranty.
Also note that WIND doesn't use the quad GSM frequencies because it doesn't have a 2G network. It never built one because it started only in I think 2008 timeframe. Nor does it yet have a 4G network. So in Canada, it will use only the 3G 1700/2100 (AWS) capabilities of the T Mobile model. That's what I was talking about by WIND choosing the closet matching model for US carriers. But that's okay because if WIND does obtain part of that 700 MHz spectrum being auctioned by the CRTC, then their Note 3 would be 4G ready.

Confused! Basebands
I'm confused! Can someone help me to line up which Note 3 model can operate in FDD LTE/4G on 1, 3, 8, 11 and 20 basebands?

This thread is titled Note LTE 1700 and 2100 MHz, this is why I post my question here.
I have 2 operator contracts: Vodafone Italy and Softbank Japan. I'm looking for a phone that will work LTE on both.
Vodafone Italy uses 1700 and 2100 MHZ
Softbank in Japan uses 1700 and 2100 MHz.
Can anyone reccommend me the right Note 3 LTE model?
So far I have been advised to buy the N9005.
But it does not have 1700MHz.
Any idea? Thank you.
PS: the N9005 comes in all these MPN. Can anyone tell me what differences there are?

Will the ATT 900A work on the T mobile network LTE fully? Once SP unlocked that is. I thought the N900A was missing one LTE band that T mobile USA uses?

Since getting the Z1C, I have never seen LTE or 4G displayed in the status bar and it's mostly always been H+. I am with Orange Switzerland and they have 4G coverage where I am and it's available to all their customers as long as their phone supports it.
I did a Speedtest and apparently I'm getting around 10Mbps which according to this article: http://www.zdnet.com/au/speed-test-how-fast-is-4g-really-7000007995/ qualified for 4G. But then shouldn't it display LTE in the status bar?
I've chosen "4G (preferred)/WCDMA/GSM" in the settings but when choosing Orange 4G in Network Operators, it would say: "Could not connect to the selected network. Make that the SIM card is inserted and that the selected network is available."
Could someone please let me know if I really have LTE or not and if not, how I should proceed? Thanks!

Contact your operator, you may need a new sim.

Ask them what LTE frequency band is/are available in your area. And compare it against the Xperia Z1 Compact. The supported bands should be

I don't know about Switzerland, but here in Germany, whenever I get an LTE connection it displays as "4G" in the status bar. (I also get "H+" from time to time)

Orange Switzerland supports 800, 1800 and 2600 according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks so maybe my SIM card doesn't support LTE. But I was under the impression that 3G (or H+) compatible SIM cards are also compatible with LTE?

no, at least here in brazil, if i want to use 4g, i have to ask for a 4g slim card. currently, im using a 3g sim, and it also wonto conect to 4g , even if its available for me to use it.

Okay, thanks for your confirmation. It's just that I saw these two sites: http://optus.custhelp.com/app/answe...g/4g:-general-device-&-sim-card-compatibility and https://www.m1.com.sg/Personal/FAQ/Mobilephonesandplans/postpaid/4GService which both state that a 3G sim card is enough to get 4G connectivity on a compatible phone. But perhaps it's different with each carrier?

i may be wrong, but that link only says that you can join a 4g network with your 3g sim, but it doesnt say nothing about using data plan on 4g.
here in brasil, we HAVE to buy a 4g card, to use 4g data plan. dont know if i can use 4g networks with my 3g sim card just for talking, thou.
go to about -> status, and see in wich network youre conected.

Here in our country we have 2 network operators that provide 4g LTE the first one can only connect to LTE using a 4g sim card. Using a regular sim you can only connect up to H+. And the other one let's you connect to 4g even with just a regular sim card although it throttles your data whenever you reach 1gb usage in 1 day hahaha! Yeah I know pretty useless.

I have also Orange contract in Switzerland. And I get 4G in most places. Where do you live?
However I received a new simcard (since I got the normal size in my S2). You might want to contact orange customer service or go to an orange shop.

I had to get a new SIM from O2 here in the UK to use 4G.

Something similar is the case with my Z1 Compact. I'm in Hungary, Central Europe, and never saw the 4G / LTE sign on my phone. I had an old SIM card that I've cut to the appropriate size, which worked, but I suspected that maybe it wasn't 4G-capable, so got a new one from T-Mobile last weekend.
Now I have a 4G-capable SIM card, 4G data plan (newly registered just two weeks ago, and it's already running according to my T-Mobile account info on their website), and there is 4G coverage in Budapest, the capital city, and still, when I try to choose the 4G T-Mobile H network, it tries to connect and then drops back to 3G.
I'm going to wait until this weekend and then get someone from T-Mobile on the phone about this.

I'm in Luzern. My friends who are also with Orange can get 4G. I guess I'll contact them but I might wait until my contract expires in a couple of months since I might change carriers. No point buying a new SIM card now if I'm gonna change later. Thanks everyone for the help!

This is the message I get when I try to connect to the 4G network:

I've figured out why I don't have 4G at the moment.
I have a pay as you go plan, not a monthly plan, and apparently I need a monthly plan to have 4G with the data plan that I use.
Kind of sucks, but at least now I know that it's not a setup, phone or SIM card problem.

So I finally went to an Orange shop. The guy there was very helpful but he said that I shouldn't need a new SIM card for 4G to work. He then checked various settings but everything seemed to be in order. In the end, he gave me a new SIM card and it worked! I was surprised that I didn't need to pay for the new SIM card. So now 4G is working as advertised

P8000 activate LTE TDD band 38 (2600 MHz)

In my country (Romania), my mobile service provider (DIGI MOBILE - RCS-RDS), made the transition to 4G LTE TDD Band 38 ( 2600 MHz ).
Our phone has in Engineering Mode, showing band 38 but I can not activate it. Even if I disable another band, band 38 is not possible to activate.
The phone is P8000 (B).
Qualcomm processors have software with which you can change the LTE band.
Brothers, there is someone who has managed to change LTE band?
Software for our processor, MTK MT6753, have seen somewhere?
I googleit but without success.
I searched the web forums but all without success.
Any idea?

Hello guys, I was doing some extensive research regarding how to open bands on this specific chipset. Since P8000 is using a relative the relative new MT6753 core, it is hard to find documentation about it. There are some software tools to work with lite SP flasher, MAUI Meta tool and some others, but no no so many. In the other hand the NV_RAM and NV_DATA paradigm makes the system hard to configure using non-conventional means, understanding for conventional the configuration prior to compiling.
Until know, I was able to activate bands using MAUI Meta, but even confirming on Android Engineering, where you can select Bands Region, the systems lacks of files to retrieve the new bands information. These leads to meta information corruption and incomplete Baseband/Modem configuration. Android detect inconsistency an fail seting it up.
The next step is try to recreate configuration files from (IMG files) and Metadata to properly initialize the baseband. Unfortunately this is really hard to accomplish. Mediatek requires files and metadata being aligned in order to pull out the configuration data for the baseband. This is a huge difference from Qualcomm, where the configurations actually made directly on the Modem NVM.

To your question, no, it's not possible to change the LTE band on this phone, for the bands are hardcoded in the ”radio” chipset, distinctively different from the Mediatek CPU. I wasn't even aware that RDS introduced LTE (which is the same as 4G, Mr. thirteeneast), at least not in Bucharest. Too bad that the Elephone ”engineers” (read: morons) opted for two vastly different radio chipsets înstead of an all-encompassing one single chip.
But hey, you can still press RDS to modify its 4G frequency, aligning it to our national (and continental) bands, along with Vodafone, Orange and Telekom (formerly Cosmote). Good luck with that!

NO you cannot ..... RCS-RDS did not get the 4g license from the romanian telecomunication autority.They have a partnership with telekom witch got 2 licenses ... one being the one on 2600 that rds uses,they can do that because they have powerfull infrascture and for a new company like telekom getting acces to that infrastructure is important.

the allview p5 energy has a mt6735p with 4g band 38 active is ther a way to remove its config files or even the hole rom and add it to cubot x12 that has mt6735m i know the cpu-s are difrent and the 3g is difrent but the way i see it most of the work is done
all that is needed is to remove some of the files and add them to the other.

I buyed the phone from everbuying.net. It is specified that works on 2600MHz. Initially, when I was in places with this frecvency available (band 38), it worked. Today it doesn't. I don't know what happened, maybe after I installed the rom update the band 38 (2600MHz) it's not available anymore.

Hi people. I have an ulefone be touch 3, and somehow it has the LTE bands that are not the same from the ulefone page info. Acording to ulefone it should have LTE BAND 1, 3,7 and 20. But mine has 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 , 17 and 19. Here is a screenshot. Im rooted. so if i can be of any help to anyone with a file or anything. just let me know. than you can take backup of nvram db of that device and flash it on your device
this is just a logical guess tell us if u did something
also check the imei and mac address might have been changed but dont worry about that you can easily change that

The B&H Photo price is still better than Best Buy, unless you live in New York/New Jersey and have to pay their local tax anyways.
Interesting now the other authorized retailers are releasing the phone! Amazon should be next.

On the LG website, for the unlocked US998 there was a "coming soon" along with retailers like Best Buy, Amazon. There were both V30 and V30+ listed, and they were greyed out. Now, I bet if we found that page again, the V30 would no longer be greyed out for Best Buy.
B&H Photo was listed under "preorder" category, and both V30 and V30+ were listed, but the V30+ was greyed out, while the V30 was active.
So, strong implication the V30+ is coming.

Already been answered many, many times in many, many threads.
There's a T-MOBILE network hidden menu in the US998 that requires root for access.
With root, you may possibly enable it from there, or with root you can (possibly) flash the T-Mobile radio.

Understood. You would think LG would make that band available for foreigners who travel to the United States and Roam on TMO. Go figure.

For use on AT&T, i don't see bands 29 and 30 on the phone, which have been somewhat recently put into service in certain areas. Also, with the unlocked, non-carrier phones, I'm not sure you'll get wifi calling, VoLTE, and IIRC HD voice (or maybe it was HD recording...sorry). Just something to keep in mind.

It's compatible with Verizon, but you'll need to stick on an already activated SIM card. Verizon won't activate a non-Verizon branded phone.
Sprint and their brands won't take non-Sprint, non-Virgin phones at all, to my knowledge. You can't "Bring Your Own Phone" to Sprint.
With Verizon, you can, but you need to have an already activated SIM card to stick on, from another Verizon phone.
It's just safer for Best Buy to say it's not compatible, then to try to explain all that.

I just walked into my local Verizon store, asked for a new SIM card, and they popped it in for me and activated it no charge (I was shocked it was THAT easy, despite the fact that others on the Motorola forums had quoted similar success .) That was only last year (June 2016) so hopefully their policy hasn't changed.

OK, good luck then. I've just heard from others about Verizon control freak behavior on non-Verizon branded phones like the ZTE AXON 7, which was also just last year, in 2016. You had to stick in an already activated SIM card.
So, if that policy has changed, then I don't know why Best Buy says it's incompatible with Verizon. That's totally wrong information. That's probably just their stock boilerplate wording for any "unlocked" phones they sell -- many of which don't have CDMA.

I will be interesting if these bands can be enabled or if the AT&T modem could be easily flashed. Pretty disappointing a flagship might not have full LTE support for a major carrier.

Almost any bands can be enabled in the hidden menu.

For use on AT&T, i don't see bands 29 and 30 on the phone, which have been somewhat recently put into service in certain areas. Also, with the unlocked, non-carrier phones, I'm not sure you'll get wifi calling, VoLTE, and IIRC HD voice (or maybe it was HD recording...sorry). Just something to keep in mind.

See above. Doesn't even need root. People already did it on the Canadian version and others -- adding bands via the hidden menu.

The only thing we can't yet enable without root is LTE BAND 71.
People got VoLTE on open market (carrier unlocked) version of LG G6. I see no difference with the LG V30.

Does this also include WiFi Calling on AT&T?
Also, when I look at the linked thread above in regards to unlocking bands, the image shown for the bands does not include bands 29 and 30. The list seems to stop with band 25 being the highest on the list. Now maybe it's possible that more bands are listed in that photo, but they are at the bottom of the list, off-screen...but I don't know.

There's a another screenshot from another user showing more bands. That was just the first page, to show the idea. Just because the first screenshot stopped with 25 doesn't mean that's all there is.
Can't find the screenshot right now but found this.

This is for the U.S. T-mobile, yes -- but all those bands are NOT listed on the U.S. T-mobile spec website, but can be enabled in the Hidden Menu. We know "71" is not listed visibly in the hidden menu for the unlocked US998 -- but ALL the others probably are. Point is, ignore the listed bands. You can enable what you want.

I first bought from B&H, then noticed BB was $20 cheaper so I emailed B&H customer service and asked nicely about a price match of $20. After a couple days I received no direct reply from B&H CS, but I did receive an automatic email saying they were processing a $20 refund. Thank you B&H.
It should be noted I did this when BB had stock though and I've noticed they're now sold out at BB... So this could change future decisions for others.
