I've been trying to root my GS3 for the past week and everything I have found that is supposedly working with my SGH I747 Jelly Bean 4.1.2 never works...I follow all the instructions, and when I plug my phone in, Odin v3.07 gets stuck on "get PIT for mapping" and then after a while it says "fail"
Any help?

I'm using Odin to upgrade from Stock Gingerbread to Stock ICS. I'm doing this because my phone isn't recognized by my computer unless it's in download mode. The problem I'm having is that Odin gets half way through the process hangs and then fails to complete. Anyway to get ICS and make Odin complete the process?
Thanks
EDIT: I disconnected the phone and rebooted to view an error message that said to restore is in Kies. Since Kies couldn't detect the device I used Odin twice to flash ICS which worked on the second try.

I have a Canadian Samsung Galaxy S III SGH 1747M with Telus. I attempted to root it using the S III toolkit developed by Mskip. Once odin flashed my phone with the boot_insecure_xxale8_cwm.tar file it attempted to reboot but can't get past the splash screen. I say soft bricked because I can enter download mode. I can't find a factory image for the SGH 1747M anywhere. Or even many threads devoted to it. So how do I unbrick it?
Create a account on sam mobile (free) download your firmware for Telus, then extract the. Tar from it put it into the PDA in Odin and flash

Someone comes to me with a t-mobile sgs3 and wants me to put the original t-mobile stock rom on it because all he can pickup for internet service is Edge. I restarted the phone and saw At&t software. I attempted to flash the t-mobile stock rom for t999 but got a secure check fail: aboot. I tried again using a out.pit file for 16gb sgs3 and then got a secure check fail: pit.. I've searched up and down to see if there's been anything similar and so this why im posting fir the first time. Please help. Thank you.
P.s. while in download mode it shows that the product name is sgh-i747 although it is a t-mobile device t999.
Get into download mod and odin.

The purchase d the phone from a cousin of mine but did not like the cmd10 mod that I had originally put on it. My cousin offered him for me to revert it back to stock but he thought he knew better and took it elsewhere where they ripped him off. On the phone underneath battery it still reads the correct info as the original box..

I was attempting to upgrade the Hyperdrive ROM from RLS15 to RLS17 as it notified me there was an update available. I went through all of the steps in CWM and Aroma and everything seemed to install properly but now when I try to load the phone I get the Samsung Galaxy logo and then it goes to a distorted blue screen and freezes. I can not boot into recovery but I can get to the bootloader to try to fix this with Odin. I just don't know what files I need to fix this or what I need to do. Can anyone help me? I was originally on M919UVUFNB4 before I flashed Hyperdrive RLS15.
You can get the 4.4.2 firmware here:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
That's what you're on if you were on nb4.
Use Odin to flash back to stock while in download mode.
Then you can start your rooting adventure over again.

Hey thanks for the link!!!! I was actually trying to do exactly what you recommended however I was trying to download the firmware from http://samsung-updates.com and every time it would get to the end of the DL after 2hrs and it would fail. sammobile was exactly what I needed and I am back up and running!
