I am posting this because a lot of users are asking me about getting it over to cdma. Which I was under the impression it couldnt be. Or that it would require some work..and I am no kernel builder..wouldnt know where to begin. So I leave the question for those who do know and can answer the question. Just so I wont keep getting asked lol.
So can Hellboy be ported to work on cdma?

It's possible for it to be ported. You'd have to modify and add files to it for PrimoC though (I know nothing about kernels except how to build them.. I can't even add a governor without it not working )
lol same here. so what do you think would be needed in the kernel? just the modules? would not mind seeing hellboy in action. i hear its features at least on gsm allow more of slim beans start up tweaks to work as expected while the cdma kernels do not.

I'm not exactly sure but I think it would need a full port over. with PrimoC board files and drivers and everything. not sure though.

Hi Guys n Ladies!
Im new to xda and allow me to say HI! =D
Im here struggling to find information regarding thigs id like to do to my phone!
Currently I have Tmobile G2 with CM7- Overclocked! Im not entirely noob, there are alot of questions i need answered but ill let google search do that!
Now, Im giving up.. cant find answers to things that im looking for!
I want SesneUI ROM that can be overclocked! So far ive been able to flush SenseUi roms but only at stock speed at 806mhz!
Is this possible? Is this a stupid question perhaps? lol ..
Anyone that can point finger and lead me to right direction or maybe supplying me with some linxx?
Thanks in Advance
Check out Virtuous ROM. I used it for a while and it worked very well. I believe they offer 2 different kernels. 1 is slightly overclocked, and the other you can use SetCPU with to get to the settings you want. At least thats the way it was a month or two back. I'd recommend Virtuous. Check out the Android Development section for more info.
Are you only looking for Gingerbread Sense ROMs? I don't think there are any kernels that support OC for Gingerbread/Sense yet. But I'm sure that's being worked on.
If you aren't asking about Gingerbread specifically, there are at least a couple of options. As already mentioned, Virtuous ROM has a couple kernel choices with different OC options.
Also, I know from personal experience that the stock Desire Z ROM works and overclocks just fine with the Godspeed kernel (and possibly others).
Great, Thanks Guys!
I Downloaded the Virtuous Rom + Advanced Kernel 2.1.2 and have found couple of things that are not quite properly operating. For Example: LockScreen sometimes stays Black(Screen Doesnt Turn on to unlock) and Homescreen Personalization Button wont operate or react (wont do anything) which is not a biggie, also bluetooth not quite sure if it works, because i couldnt link my headset! Any thoughts??? Overall its great, Exactly what i was looking for.. first, I didnt know how to flash kernel but youtube did the trick!
Thanks Again!!
Installing SetCPU or any other CPU frequency tuning related program on 2.3.x? Is there any point to it? Since custom kernels for Gingerbread dont exist?
You can change the governors (ondemand, performance, userspace) and max/min clock rate I believe, but overclocking is impossible without a custome kernel.

I believe he is talking about custom kernels for Sense ROMs. Kernels for AOSP do exist of course.

What? Jeez, I've missed something very obvious here. Thank you for your answers though.
EDIT: Thank you very much for this info, my decision to try out Cyanogenmod just got justified Boy is my face red
cm7 obviously also has the CPU controls under it's settings so you may still not necessarily want to use setCPU.
I do anyway tho

i think the same that mr-jmm have a look at the development forum... there are custom kernels designeds in a first place for froyo but works perfect in gingerbread.. some buzz kernels and leedroid 2.2.x
I wonder what'd be the differences among "sense kernels", "miui kernels" and "aosp kernels".
In my perception there should be no difference.
I mean, which kernel setting or device driver would harm, say, CM7 against MIUI?
Based on my humble knowledge, there is Sense kernel because of the closed sourced framework(?) used by HTC on their phone. It is done so as to prevent from people anyhow porting to other non-htc devices?
As for MIUI and AOSP, I personally believe because of the MIUI framework being different from AOSP as it tailored to be more iPhone look alike?
Above those are view coming from a noob, do correct me if i'm wrong. Thanks

That's really new to me, that the Sense UI needs some kernel level (closed source) stuff to be included!
I thought that the Semse UI was something on top of the grapfics layer, well above the kernel.
But of course, I can easily be wrong.

Maybe you are right, but it's also related to development.
And, moreover, 50+% of posts here are questions.
How can I move this to Q&A?
Wrong section. Should be in the Q&A section.
I'm sure one of the mods will move it soon.
but this is not a post, its a new thread

The only really silly question is the unasked one.
Where there seems to be thousands of silly answers.
If mine is an "already asked and answered" question, please point me to the source.
Otherwise, please, either answer or refrain from posting.
Thanks in advance, as usual.

you only wrong to open a thread to ask something in the dev section..you can post in dev only when u developed something that you wanna share..not to ask somethign related to dev
about the different kernels..for what i know aosp and miui are about the same
sense kernels are different because htc did a lot of changes in its kernels..and these changes make the kernel incompatible to work with every rom..it works only on sense rom...and in the same way a sense rom work only with a sense kernel
htc deliberately make different methods in the kernel, and different methods call in the frameworks..the only working match is sense rom+sense kernel..just that

Instead of making comments about the question, we should answer
Sense Kernels: These kernels are modified kernels based on Google's Android kernels, but also includes some tweaks and options for Sense UI. If you're planning to use Sense included ROM, you must use these.
MIUI Kernels: These kernels are modified for MIUI release ROMs.
AOSP Kernels (Android Open Source Project Kernels): These kernels are the ones that Google developed and published the sources. If you are not planning to use Sense or other manufacturer based UI interfaces, you can use these with AOSP ROMs.
In most of the custom rom threads, dev's do not like being asked about why the camera doesn't work. But I can't seem to find the answer so i'm posting it here.
What exactly is the problem with ics and camera's? why are there so much difficulties in enabling the camera in ics?

Because ics is a new android base and they are working as hard as they can to get it working. They don't want to hear about it not only because its in the list of what doesn't work and don't want bug reports, they also have put in an incredible amount of work and so many people put pressure on them about the camera as it is. Developing roms and kernels without a working base to start with is incredibly painstaking and is not easy. It's amazing they have gotten as far as they have with it since ace devices have no official ics base to work with. Just be patient. It will all get worked out eventually.
And don't forget that camera is not the most important in a phone
So they're going step by step... this is a very good way to proceed.
Because camera is for cam whores jk

The guys at the Desire development managed to get the camera working: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403113
It's a rough hack and not very stable yet but works!
Also, the current ICS roms are running 2.6.x kernels, I'm positive it has something to do with that. Wonder if we'll even see 3.x on the DHD! Hope so!
Don't understand me wrong. I have great appreciation for the work that dev's do. Everyday I enjoy the fruits of the custom rom that I have loaded onto my device.
It was just that the camera in ics seems to be a problem for many custom rom developers and I assumed that it was something more specific to the developements with ics.

The guy was simply asking for info. He just wanted to know if anyone has an idea why the cam is a commom obstacle for different devs.. He wasn't underestimating the developers' work(who during my 5 years with xda, has proven to be the Gods of mobile modding!)
No harm in asking, right?

The kernel has changed and that requires new libaries to allow the camera to interact with it, these are the properiatary blobs that only HTC can officialy provide, now it should be possible when one of the DHD sister phones i.e Desire Z are provided with an official build that the camera can be reverse engineered, but if not it's gonna be a matter of trial and error to get any knid of functionality.
BTW If anyone with a better than my sketchy understanding wants to butt in and correct me please feel free
BTW BTW Lordclockan has a build with partialy working camera up and running
I agree with you. All the best to the devs ! Good luck !
Been away from XDA for a few months, now back to check out ICS-based ROMs. Two questions:
Are there ANY that have working WIMAX?
Could somebody please list the various options for ICS (i.e. Android 4.0.3) based ROMs and their forum links?
Bonus points if you name your favorite and tell me why.
Thanks.

1. None have working WIMAX yet!
2. Most if not all ICS Roms are based off of Prelude Drews work..problem you can't find him on XDA only on twitter for his releases and updates. Also, Deck's working on a version that is good but have to find him on a different forum -rootzwiki.
On XDA there are only a few:
1 AOKP Which is based off of Prelude Drews and they are activitly working on this.
2. MazWoz which is also based off of Drew's is updated on a regular basis.
I'm currently running Prelude Drew recent release and it's very smooth. I've tried all of them with the exception of MazWoz and they are getting better everyday. I've read good things about AOKP from people I respect. Give them a whirl and see what you think!
Also, there are a few threads in the General forum(search and you shall find) talking about ICS that would be a good read.
Hope this helps!

True, currently running it as well. Though those are all the current places to get ICS at the moment.
I've heard the main issue with most of them is that for some reason the camera won't work? That would be a deal breaker for me - can't remember the last time I actually carried a point and shoot camera

I would stay away from that one.
Its just an really poor copy of the rest-
The others are certainly good choices though.

I've been running Deck's latest and it has been running great. The working Hardware Acceleration is worth the few glitches it creates in the process. While I don't have my camera preview I can still take pictures pretty well.
