I see small streaks of dead pixels all over my screen. I never noticed it before but now I really do. Tablet is less than a week old.
So my question is...how do I return it to complete stock so I can exchange it? I've rooted it.
Anyone? Thanks.
It's usual at least in the first batch D06/D07, mine is D07 and has a dead pixel in the bottom.
Try checking out this thread, it has all realated display issues.

Sprint recently sent me a replacement EVO due to mass amounts of dust under screen. Old was hardware 3, new is hardware 2. Everything seems about the same, but on the new replacement, I noticed there is minimal light leakage around the phone. It's only visible at night, and really not an annoyance.
My main question is, does the issue stay pretty consistent, or does it get worse over time? Searches haven't revealed anything to helpful.
Also on a side note, I went to try the new root process, but checked boot loader first, and it came to me s-off. Nice. =)
The very first phone I had got worse over a 2 week period, way worse, almost to the point of the screen coming completely off. The evo I have now has a very very slight leakage, and hasnt gotten any worse in 8 months.
So I guess it's up to you. Personally, I would have them ship you another one, you never know if it will get worse down the line, and then they wont exchange it. Now that you just got it, they should exchange it with no questions asked.
Hey guys, so the other day I noticed a TINY flashing(what I think is a) pixel. It's only visible when I'm on for example the reddit app with the dark theme. It flashes in the middle left side when scrolling up and down. Otherwise, in pixel tests, I can't see it.
What do I have here? Is it dead or on the way? Yes it shows in other apps too, but only in dark themes because it's a small white dot.
I have one that shows when the camera goes from preview back to camera mode. Doesn't show up in tests either. I'd like to know as well. Also, do you think a dead pixel is covered by the 6 month screen replacement?
Bumping for mor3 help..
Bumping again...
Too hard to tell from the explanation. Pictures would help

I haven't noticed this myself so there must be some sort of hardware issue. Isn't the M8 covered for screen problems for 6 months? I'd consider this a screen problem/defect and ask for a replacement if it bothered me.
How to do pixel test ? I am having the same problem as you. I start noticing it after installing venom rom (could be unrelated ofc). What rom do you have ?

Hi Everyone,
I just got a RMA back for a new display since the last one had a defect with a row of dead pixels. A few days after I just got a stuck pixel (color green). Any Suggestions? Thanks.

Hey I have a stuck pixel on my Nexus 7, but color red. It is only visible in dark backgrounds. Anyways, I am just asking you how as the RMA process, I am in a similar situation as you and I am wondering if there are any other solutions.

It was fast, it took two weeks to get it and where I live, it seemed it was shipped to Texas and repaired and send with FedEX Ground to my home. I'm right now using Fix dead pixels app and see if it has a effect. Anyways, sorry about your nexus.
Anyone...
Look on google play store for "stuck pixel remover"...it can take a while running it to work.
I got my 1+3 yesterday and I have to say that this phone feels perfect just like the way 1+1 felt for the first time, I'm really happy with it
Back to my point, Day 1 Struggle 1
Actually I've a little blue pixel just below the recents button of my softkey (see attached pic). I guess it's a dead pixel, kindly correct me if I'm wrong.
I purchased this phone from Amazon India and I don't know whether you people know or not that in India we have received a year of damage protection for free with this purchase but now due to this dead pixel I'll have to get my money refunded and then after the complete procedure of return I'll have to order another one as the terms of that additional warranty specifically says that I cannot refund/exchange the product once purchased.
My question now, is this dead pixel thingy contagious or something like that? I can manage with this single blue dot but I don't want to see my screen filling with more dead pixels after some time of usage.
If anyone can confirm this within few days then I won't apply for refund.
I hope I was clear with my question and if not please pardon me as my english is not really that good.
Just to make it more clear and precise, I am asking whether I'll have more dead pixels in future because I already have one on day 1 itself.
Hoping to hear from the experts soon
i guess u can try to disable softkeys and see if its still there if so, then more than likely a dead pixel if not then must be an issue with softkeys, i never use them so i would have never noticed
@Bradl79 Yes I can still see the blue dot even when the soft keys are disabled.
So now I know that it IS a dead pixel.
What do you say should I replace the device (though I'm not bothered by one single dot but I'm concerned about coming months and years)
if u r with in ur warranty period yes, if u dont, i would recommend getting insurance on the device (i use squaretrade, but i do it as a tablet and not a phone b/c its cheaper) just in case it gets worse later
I guess then I will send this one back and get refund
Also Xiaomi event is coming up on 27, may be they will launcher 64 GB version of Mi5.
Will decide after the Xiaomi event then.
Try testing your screen, with Screen testing apps, that paint out Primary colours, so that you can confirm if its dead pixel. Also give a shot of reset/factory restore. Also check if this appears, even at Recovery or during Boot animation.., If you're fond of MI5, you will miss Stock android yet get a handy phone..!
Cheers..
I already tried an app showing solid colors on full screen, it did let me see that pixel more clearly.
Situations when I see that dead pixel:
1. When screen brightness is low as that pixel is covered by brightness of other pixels
2. During boot
3. During charging when phone is already off/shutdown
4. When I put wrong finger on scanner, I see that pixel for fraction of a second.
Definitely it's a dead pixel, but I, again, want to confirm just one thing. Is this a big deal as I don't even see this dot unless I actually want to see it, I am only concerned about the coming months & years.
And as far as Mi5 is concerned, I do like a thing or two more in it, just like you mentioned that it's smaller and it has a infra-red blaster.
Last point, I trust Xiaomi more than OP for long-term software updates.
But the thing is, as you may already know, Xiaomi only launched the 32GB version of Mi5 in India.
-_-
I purchased my Pixel 2 XL straight from google and am using it on AT&T. I haven't had any problems at all with this since i got it. Its been about 3 weeks. I did the Nov 5 update last week and just a few minutes ago the screen flashed once while just laying there doing nothing.
I've seen this around the internet where the flash happens when rebooting the phone, but mine was just sitting there on the table with the screen off, and the always on display showing the time and date when it flashed (white). It only flashed once, but, i'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if we know what's causing this?
I have the same issue which happened right after the Nov 5 update.
I did a factory reset, boot into safe mode, AOD on and off and the issue still persists.
I'm getting this prob 5-10 times in the past week on my new device that I got from them.

lol I wish... just tried a factory reset on it as I finally just got the recent patch. We will see if it helps it out.
Nice wallpaper!
I saw the article on this on Android Central, which included 2 videos of it. I personally have not seen this screen flash happening on mine.
It's starting to happen more frequently. I had installed substratum and changed a theme, rebooted, and couldn't boot Android so I factory reset the phone and it's been doing it every since, is typically within a minute of shutting the screen off.
I had it happen 2 days into getting mine on the 27th. Google replaced it then because a factory reset didn't fix it. It happened any time I locked the screen and man was it bright when I was in a dark room.
Google Support is sending me a new replacement. Hopefully this one wont have the issue.
Happens on mine too. From what I read, Google is working on a software fix for it.
Replacement phone received (11/14) with a build date of Nov 3. Within 4 days of having the phone a gray band is now appearing at the top portion of the screen and the screen flashes uncontrollably.
Attempted to work with Google Support who in turn had me go through a gauntlet of trouble shooting steps and a factory reset..... I knew none of the steps would work because this is a true hardware issue.
Still no reply from Google Support after I sent them the debug reports, pictures of the gray band that has formed and the video of the screen flashing.

Holy s**t man. This is bad.
I was finally convinced to get the Pixel 2 XL over the Oneplus 5T but then I saw this.. And the fact that this is your REPLACEMENT phone from Nov 3rd is even more worrying. Damn.
Very frustrating... Unfortunately I had to return the Pixel. My 14 day return period ends on 11/21 and I couldn't risk getting a 3rd replacement that could potentially have the same issues.
Its upsetting cause everything else about the phone I love. Back to my LG G5 until i find something new.
Got my 3rd device yesterday, first two were very blue screens this one is much better but it flashes bright white when going into always on display. Not sure if I want to go through all the bull**** again. Google really dropped the ball on the release of this phone, obviously not ready for primetime.

I had something like this happen once so far and was just about to take a screen capture when it resolved. I think it was shifting from the AOD to the main screen after unlocking the device.
It's definitely something to be concerned with if it's happening repeatedly. The more time passes, the more and more questionable Google's decision to use LG becomes...
Google needs to say clear of LG imo.
