Need help. I rooted my phone some time back when it was ICS. I reinstalled stock app (after worrying about battery life) and then updated to JellyBean 4.1.1. I kept root.
Today I updated to 4.1.2 [Kernal 3.0.31; Build Nu: JZ054K.I747UCDMG2). I've lost root access. So...I want to root again. Here is the advise / help part.
1) How do I root given than I'm at version 4.1.2? (I can only find instructions for 4.1.1)??
2) What image should I install? Stock? CyMod? I'm always worried about battery life. I get nervous that system will leak power.
Help!!!!
Thanks in advance.

I just recently upgraded to this phone after being very happy with my inspire 4G. I've rooted to remove bloatware, and installed TWRP so I can have the benefits of a custom recovery... but other than that my phone is stock. I updated to 4.1.2 before I rooted.
This method worked for me, with zero hassles:

You can also use cf-autoroot. It is flashable through odin and really easy. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963790

So I'm new to android, rooted on the most recent ota, then wanted to try cm6. I had to get the bootloader 76.
So now I'm back on the 3.26 build. I'm not rooted but can confirm s off how can I root again, just rerun un revoked?
If so how can I get back up to the most recent ota and root?
Tried installing the new ota rooted zip and that didn't work.
Any help is appreciated, thanks xda community!

This post might be of interest to you.
It worked well for me. Just make sure you flashed Unrevoked Forever (So you won't have any chance of loosing root)
Also, NANDroid backup.. just in case.

Also, everything has to be stock or the update will fail.
i.e. Kernel needs to be the proper stock and all the .apks need to be there.
It seems like a lot of work, but it only takes like 5 min... the update takes the longest.
Ok so I'm currently on Gingerbread 2.3.6. My phone is rooted. I AM NOT USING ANY SORT OF ROM. I am on the stock T-mobile rom.
The only programs I have installed on it are Titanium backup. I have performed a backup using nandroid as well as TB.
My question to you all is: Is it safe to update to the OFFICIAL ICS when T-Mo rolls out with it on June 11th?
If so, do I have to unroot? Or can I just run the update when I hook up my phone and open KIES?
Help!
If you're running the stock ROM, you should be able to update without issue. You will almost certainly lose root, though. I'm hoping it only takes a day or so for someone to bang out a rooted, deodexed, etc. stock ICS ROM once the update is released.

I hope so too man. At last, T-Mo rolls out the update.
When I plug into KIES, I have another random update but I'm not going to do install it until June 12th.

You may need to flash the stock recovery via odin if you have CWM installed to update to ics

Install that lastest update b4 u update to ics. The update b4 ics is to prevent your phone from bricking when going thru the update process to ics.

Ok but will I need to revert back to anything? Like i said in my original post, I havent loaded any custom ROMS. I've only rooted the phone via ODIN.
It is okay to be rooted, but what Mr Knitty is asking is are you on the UVLDE build of gingerbread or the KL1? You need to be on the newer, updated UVLDE.

what exactly happens when you lose root? is it JUST that apps like titaniumbackup won't function as they won't have root access?

I tried connecting my phone to Kies after rooting and it says that a firmware update isn't supported on my device. In order for me to do anything in that regard, I'd have to unroot and then upgrade. If I were you, I'd just wait until Tmo pushes out the ICS update and when someone puts the rooted version out just install it. It will save you the trouble of having to unroot and root again just to get what your phone is already capable of getting via root.
Is there a thread for upgrading from a modded rom, like Juggernaut? Searched, but then again my eyes aren't the greatest. If I need the UVLDE update, how would I go about not bricking during such process? Sorry to intrude, just thought this was the closest thread to ask.

Theres a thread dedicated specifically to flashing the update. That thread covers every possible scenario. Look for the words flash, UVLDE, how to, and update in the titile. Its plain as day.
I think I got answer on my question in here.....
I didn't have to change back to stock recovery to update or unroot.
If on stock just flash the root file again through Odin and your good to go.
If your on a custom GB ROM. Just flash through Odin instead of Kies. Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1682955
Tmobile T989UVLDE
If coming from a leaked custom ICS ROM. I would use the super wipe and cache wipe. Then flash through Odin.
Of course back up everything with your preferred method.

Wait, so this flashes updated stock, but updated? I would lose my current rom setup?
*EDIT*-Nevermind, found what I was looking for. Just going to go back to stock, and wait it out.

dont worry
My phone its rooted just stock just to be able to use good apps like titanium addfree etc etc and when i update laat week did not gave me a problem so im thinking if u have stock rom just rooted i dont see a problem plus everyone here at xda wont let u down...trust me
What I would do, is just wait like 2 or 3 more days so someone can come out with a completely stock ICS. That way you don't have to worry about losing root

Hello,
I recently rooted my buddy's sg3 for him and now it keeps reminding him about the new OTA update. Is there a way to just download and install the update I've tried reading through the countless forums and I'm more confused now then what I was when i started. Apprently you can't flash a stock recovery unless you unroot and put back on a stock recovery instead of clock work then you can install the update. Is that true. All I really need to do is just install the latest update without losing any data and keeping root is that possible if so how.
Thank You

Thank you for the info. I looked over everything and apprently if I did the software update and wiped calvik then i won't lose anything. But if I did the all in one update it updates everything but I'm not sure if i will lose everything. Have you done this update and were you able to keep all the data intact. thank you

any help would be great

Download root66_ATT_I747UCDLK3.7z install it from Odin. You get new Jelly Bean update and it will stay rooted. I just did it and it worked. You will not lose any data either, but make a back up either way. You will loose CWM but you can just simply reinstall it from Rom Manager

running I747MVLLH1 4.0.4
AND ATT will work and not change much? also that is an old link. there is a new update via kies for 4.1.2
I was rooted with CWM recovery and I upgraded with Kies with no problems. After the upgrade, I no longer had root or cwm recovery.

I don't know about other's experiences, but my phone seems to be much more responsive in general after the update. Apps load and quit quicker, launcher is faster and smoother, and battery life is still about the same (very good for me at about 10% every 3hrs). I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Other than two weird resets in the first hour after updating, I have had no problems since and everything (wifi, LTE, GPS, etc) is working fine. The best thing for me is that K9 mail is so much faster and responsive with my 7 imap accounts.
PS - I was really hoping for the 3D panorama camera in this update, but alas no such luck.

Try these images.
Just downloaded the rooted Bell 4.1.1 rom and attempted to flash with mobile ODIN.
But this resulted in boot loop.
Could the stock recovery have be preventing this from working?
Should I flash CWM now?
The recovery you're using shouldn't matter, particularly.
I'm not really familiar with the way Mobile Odin does things; I would have used regular desktop Odin to do things.
Generally, you see a boot loop with stock images if you're going back and forth between stock and non-stock and you did not wipe cache/data during the process. You can carry out said wipes with the stock recovery.
Good, just did it on good ol' regular odin and it worked.
No idea what caused the loop with Mobile Odin, I was going from stock 4.0.4 (w/ root) to stock 4.1.1 (w/root).
so im new here.
i just rooted my phone at&t gs3 i747. everything was fine. after that i decided to update the phone from android 4.0 to 4.1.1 through kies. everything was working normal. when i tried using my rooted app .a pop up showed that my phone isnt rooted anymore.i dont want to root my phone again to prevent further damage. a video/tutorial would be nice to resolve this problem. thank you
ps. where should i go if i want to update my rooted phone?
You can't update through kies if you rooted your phone as it'll flash an unrooted firmware. Just root it again.

The update wiped the root, you cant either re-root the phone or delete the rooted apps and keep the unrooted phone.
