Mad at Samsung - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

So 2 weeks ago, my phone seemed like it had the infamous sticky power button issue...Would restart on it's own, flashed back to stock, same thing, wouldn't boot half the time...So I sent it to Samsung...11 days later I get it back..they replaced a majority of the parts, but not the phone...A day of having it back, does the same thing again, this time it's worse... I called Samsung...another 10 days...I fought my way to get expedited, but still going to be without my phone...Needless to say I'm not so happy with them... Anyone else have an experience like this? If I didn't fight my way to a supervisor, I'd be 20 days out of a month without my phone... I'm really starting to lose my faith in Samsung...
Also, I've had to call 3 additional times because they cannot get the shipping address correct...
End rant!

That sucks! Last time I told my carrier, who obviously didn't care my out of warranty captivate was acting up, that I wanted a deal on a new phone since I had a year on my contract.....they said sorry...no deals.....so I said shove their service and contract up their dark hole. Paid the stupid cancellation fee and got a free S2 with a new carrier.
Sucked....but I had to get away from them.
Haven't had a warranty repair yet....this one is out of warranty too....so maybe on my next phone. The next Nexus is the plan. Especially if its a Motorola.

Well even with expedited service, I get my phone back next Tuesday... almost a whole month without a phone... Not real happy...

yeah, my phone is only 1 year and 3 monghs old and the usb port for charging is broken. So now I must charge my batteries with a desk top charger. These phones need to be plugged in to chargers on a daily basis. There is NO REASON WHY THEY SHOULD BUILD A PHONE THAT HAS A PIECE OF CRAP CHARGING CONNECTION. OR ANY OTHER DAILY USED MOVING PART. That is just treating your customers poorly. Thank you for listening.

im happy with samsung... they gave me an extra charger, headphones, and another usb cord when i sent in my phone to be rapired (under warranty)

Read this thread for the repair guys info I just used ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2425729 ). He is awesome and cheap ( $25 ). I had to pay to ship it to him ( $5.80 usps small flat rate box which included tracking and some insurance) but he paid for the return. He even took photos of my repair for me. It only took a few days to include shipping.

Well guess what...My phone is on it's 3rd trek over to Samsung...After talking to 3 managers, and an hour long phone call...Still won't assure me a new phone... I'm pretty furious with this...I even asked them don't you think it's cheaper to replace the phone than 3 repairs, and they said they can't release that information... I honestly don't know if I'll buy another Samsung after all this... This is my Tuesday morning rant

Freaking Asurion...

So last week on Monday morning i cracked my HTC Sensation screen while
getting out from my car as it was on my lap and i completely forgot about it.
I have done this before and not a single scratch, but this time i guess it just
fell at the wrong spot. What ever all good, that's why i have insurance right?
So i go and file a claim with Asurion for them to just tell me that there is no
available Sensation phones and that they can just replace it with the SG2.
Sure why not i said, might as well get a new different phone to play around
with. So they shipped it out on Monday telling me that by Tuesday it should
be there... Nope came on Wednesday.(Most likely Fedex problem...). So like
a little child i'm all excited and start ripping apart the box to get my phone .
I open it up and start looking at all the peaces and realize right off the bat
that their is no freaking battery. How the hell am i supposed to turn this thing
on with no battery. Even tried to just put in the usb charger but it just vibrates.
(probably meaning that there is no freaking battery). So i'm completely pissed
of at this point and am about to start raging. I call up Asurion customer service
to tell them what happened. (One thing is, Asurion got some really nice
customer service people right in america i mean it was just like talking to
a friend and they where really nice and just flat out nice lol. All 6 people that i
called!. VERY GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!) So they tell me that i can go into
my local store and just buy a battery and they will refund me $39.99. So i hang
up and goto the store to find out they are selling that battery for 49.99. So i
call Asurion back again to tell them this and they said they will ONLY be able to
refund me $39.99 and what ever else is upto me. I tell them forget it and ship
me a new battery. The lady tells me that they don't ship battery's by fedex
but by regular mail, and that i wont get my battery until 5-7 days... So i was
kind of pissed and ended up speaking to a super visor and apparently his super
visor and nothing can be done about this. What ever i said just freaking send
it and get this over with. SO figure it like this. They say 5-7 business days for
the package to arrive by regular mail. Regular mail has a 6 day business work
week Monday-Saturday. Today is now Thursday so that would mean that this
was the last day that it should have came on. To my surprise i get home a few
hours ago and there is no freaking battery in the mailbox.... GRRRRR
Back to calling Asurion. Again i tell them the problem and again they tell me that
they will send me another battery by regular mail. Now i wasn't having any of
this. I have 14 days to return my old phone. Now i am on day 8 of this 14 day
return policy. What the hell am i going to do? They told me they can contact
t-mobile and tell them the problem and not to expect the package for 30 days.
I told them NO because i cant even use the damn phone so it doesn't matter.
( I was ling cause i'm using it right now lol). I started screaming at this poor
lady and then just asked for a super visor again. After about 20minutes of being
on hold 4 times, she comes back on the line and says that they have come to
a solution.
The solution:
They are going to send me a package with a new phone WITH BATTERY and
send it via fedex so i can get it tomorrow. They have a very strict policy
on shipping anything other then phones via fedex express.
I just now have to send back 2 phones...
This is what i have been going thru for the past 8 days..
I hope it comes in tomorrow with a battery and i also hope that the battery that
they sent in via regular mail also come sin so that i can now have a spare battery.
So that is my Asurion ordeal for the past week and a half.
Fun times ehh.
Wow! Hope it all comes together for ya from here on out
Yea, thanks a lot. I really hope it comes in tomorrow with everything functioning and intact.
they are sapose to send a new phone in sealed box when replacing your phone with a different phone. Thats weird they would do that either somebody messed up or they have some bull$**T new policies. I don't know seems like T-mobile and what not was real cool when they were about to merge but now they got real greedy.

Yep, same thing Asurion and T-mobile told me. They are both different company's that don't have to much to do with each other other then insurance. When i send back the phone's they get sent to T-mobile and not Asurion. At least that's what Asurion told me. Also i didn't get it in a sealed box. It was sent in some cheap ass regular white box.. Meh
If u need a battery real fast you can go to your local Verizon store now and get the Samsung 2100mah Galaxy Nexus Extended battery for 24.99 (currently 50% off 49.99). I just bought mine yesterday and it fits perfectly. Our stock battery is 1850mah. Call before you go because some stores are sold out.

Thanks for the tip. I love my Sensation but the battery life is just HORRIBLE. I mean it was so bad that only making a few phone calls and checking xda for 30minutes tops during work, i'd be at like 15-10% by 5pm after a full work day. Hope the sg2 handles battery life much better.

Sadly, After having had my GSII past the 14 day return window, I'm kinda wanting my Sensation back. The T989's only advantage is the 16GB onboard memory and 256MB more RAM.
Factor in that Sensation has several ICS ROMs and we have none and there are non on the horizon, I'd rather go with the Sensation, even though I had a ton of issues with my 4 that i went through. The T989 just doesn't impress me enough to justify the cost over upgrading from the Sensation. The only thing keeping me from selling the GSII and getting another Sensation is the crap luck i had with them.
You could of just got the galaxy nexus extended battery for 25.99+tax from the Verizon store.

Sending my phone in for repair (updated daily)

Thought ill do this to help people that are thinking of sending their phone in for repair.
If its fast, if they do a good job etc..
I called up Samsung UK at 9am UK time 21/05/12 and told them what's wrong with it
This is what is wrong with it;
The screen pops out about quater of a MM on the bottom right
-The phone doesnt always charge when connected to the charger (this has happened about 5times within a month)
-The phone switches off randomly sometimes (This has happened about 3 times within a month)
-Sometimes when i remove the charging cable. On the screen it says charging/ disconnected continuously, If i wasnt aware of it, it would keep happening and burn my screen since the same image is on the screen none stop (This has happened 2 times within two weeks)
-If i shake my phone i hear a rattle sound on the upper back of the phone (This has been there since i bought the phone)
-The touch screen isnt as responsive from when i bought it (I have to take my finger off the screen and try again sometimes)
-WiFi and 3G stops working and i have to reboot my phone to be able to use it (This has happened countless of times)
Some of these faults only happen sometimes but they have happened more then once within a short period of time.

Quite a lot right? lol. The women took it quite well haha.
They said the bag will be sent out within two working days with Royal Mail, and the repair will take from 5 to 10 working days. I have to send it with other information like proof of purchase contact details etc..
I asked what happens if they send it back and the same/ new faults are still there?
She said we will try and repair it again and if its no good on the 3rd try then they will send me a new one.
The call took about 20minutes. I was on hold for about 5minutes total.
So let the games begin.
ps I set this as my background for fun
LoL @ background!
hope they take care of it...
I got the package this morning around 11am while i was sleeping (i work nights) so i could of sent it today if some one woke me up -_-
Another thing.. the packaging they gave me is an utter joke.
Cheap bubble wrap thats about 2ft by 1ft and a plastic bag(envelope)
I used my own bubble wrap, cardboard, bubble wrap jiffy bag, some more bubble wrap then put it in the envelope with all the information they needed.
I think i over did it a bit but what can i say? Im a bit OCD on stuff like that lol.
I took lots of pictures of my phone so when they send it back to me.. if there is one mark that wasnt there before/ still has the same or new problems its going straight back.
I want to send it back three times because then they will send me a brand new one on the 3rd go haha.
I'm going to post it tomorrow morning.
Hope it works out for you.

My brother had an iphone4.. about 20days before the 1 year warranty ran out he went into the apple store and said the home button doesnt always work. The guy didnt even check it and gave him a brand new one.
I wish all companies had customer service like Apple... even if their products are meh.

lmao. You obviously don't know much about Apple customer service, it costs $99/year per device + $49/"incident". If you call 91 days after you purchase your device they won't even talk to you about your device/software or anything until you purchase the $99 service.
Every iPhone comes with one year of hardware repair coverage and 90 days of telephone technical support. AppleCare+ for iPhone extends repair coverage and technical support to two years from the original purchase date of your iPhone and adds coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage due to handling, each subject to a $49 service fee.1 With AppleCare+ for iPhone, Apple experts can help troubleshoot issues over the phone or at an Apple Retail Store. They’ll answer questions about iOS, Apple iPhone apps such as Mail, iMessage, and Calendar, and help you solve interconnectivity issues between your iPhone and Mac or PC. And if your iPhone needs service under the plan, Apple technical support representatives can even set up a repair during the same call.

One year hardware warrantee, 90 day tech support via phone. Which leaves much to be desired IMO. Almost all products offer 1yr hardware support, Android does not charge $99/yr to help you diagnose a problem over the phone. Imo saying Apple has superior customer service is so assbackards it borders on mentally challenged. As far as what I personally know about Apple and their CS, I've been an Apple device owner for years, same for Android. Both have good qualities, both have poor qualities. But I have no delusions of which are which. I'm not going off somebody else's experience, somebody who as far as I am concerned (since we don't have an XDA username for them) has no credibility on this forum. I posted the link and quote directly from Apples website, it's kind of hard to disagree with that, and if either of you would have actually read it you would have seen that hardware is warranted for 1yr.

I dont see why anyone would buy extended warranty .. its a rip off.

That was my whole reasoning, I don't see why anyone would rather HAVE to pay for the extended, much less pay for phone support during the normal warrantee period. Hopefully you are more than satisfied with your new device, I will be asleep in an hour but I'll come check it out tomorrow.

Sometimes I Really Hate Samsung

Usually not, but damn. Last week my original GNex had it's radio's take a dump. After 11 solid months, I rebooted one night and had data, but voice never came back. So I put everything back stock and walked into Verizon and paid $15 to have a replacement overnighted to me.
Now, a week later, I've come to the conclusion that my replacement is fubared. I've never seen a device experience sleep of death + turning into an oven so quickly and consistently before. It's good for 30, maybe 60 minutes tops before it craps out. This is awesome when your phone is your alarm clock.
So here I go again, getting ready to waltz back into the Verizon store and do the same song and dance again. Pay $15, get a phone on Tuesday, probably have something massively wrong, rinse and repeat. Hey, devices take a crap from time to time, and luckily mine did while still under warranty, but I'm taking picks on how many replacement units I have to go through before one finally sticks.
My guess is the 3rd replacement is a charm. Who wants the over?
Those of you who have gone through the replacement fiasco with Samsung, how many tries did it take you to get a good one?
Why do you pay when you have still warranty?

Shipping to have it overnighted. It's also awesome that my local store doesn't toss out loaner phones while you wait (It'd make it easy to avoid that whole shipping thing). Maybe I'll call Verizon Tech Support just to bug them about.
no issues at all with mine...
I love Samsung personally
OOOh, free overnight shipping. Thanks Big Red!
Hopefully the next one is a charm because honestly, I don't know what I'd do without a Nexus device on Verizon's network. The alternatives make me cringe.
why is there no option for none
Read the last line of the OP.
I'm just curious to know if getting bum replacements is a "normal" thing because for a phone that went through a "100 point inspection", well, they dropped the ball on this one.

Getting my third in the mail tomorrow Last one had ridiculous sensitivity issues, we'll see what the next one brings.
And why don't you just call em up instead of going in to the store? I keep my phone and they send me a refurb in the mail. The first phone was USPS, but after that one was crap they began overnighting it via FedEx.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I went through 4 before I got my refurb, then I promptly sold it for a GSM model. That's one thing that I have to hand it to Verizon for, they were really good once I got the 1st defective one. I had 4 at one time, most overnighted at no cost and no fees or holds.
They did try everything they could to not send me one though... Unlike Google who were more then happy to send me multiple N7's.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
I had to replace one because of dirt under the screen even though its new and heat issues, the replacement was perfect and never get hot under normal use. I also bought one recently and it has heat issue and poor screen as well, but I'll live with it for the price. Its sort of a luck thing with this device, especially a lottery with AMOLED screen. I was going to get the N4 but it seem to also have lots of little issues on its own, such as getting too hot, I really hate phones getting overheat.I'm still waiting on confirmation on the USB OTG too.
After reading this it makes me think I need to bug Asurion tomorrow, I had to get an insurance replacement so I have to go through them for warranty now, they are definitely more strict on some things but like 3 minutes of complaining about signal got me a new one once already. The current one gets EXTREMELY hot under even normal use, so hot that it is uncomfortable to hold and definitely would be uncomfortable up against your face.

The first time I went in, I was hoping that they'd have one in the back they could swap out for me, or a loaner phone (fat chance, I know). My job pretty much requires a working cell phone. I'm kind of surprised that Verizon was so willing to send a replacement out in just a few minutes. Granted, I don't know what alternative they'd have. There's no real way to troubleshoot SOD issues. My main concern is just not having to go through a massive fiasco running through multiple devices, especially with an 8 day vacation coming up.

Well, if it's still under warranty, I'd jump on it.
Let's see... My first nexus has a seriously bad screen. I shipped it out the same day I got it. Got my replacement (#2) and the screen was worse than the first one. So I sent that bad and got another one (#3). This one had the same issue as OP. Radios wouldn't work....no voice or data and the phone got really hot. Enough to where I couldn't hold it to my face. So I sent that one in and they sent me a Samsung Stratosphere (#4 replacement). Sent that in and got the nexus I currently have making 5 replacements (4 with nexuses). I also went through Verizon...
Good luck
I had to replace one about ~8 months ago for screen ghosting. I was really satisfied with the replacement until now because the ghosting is back on the replacement. I'm contemplating switching to T-Mobile though, so I dunno if I'm going to attempt to replace this one.

Well that sucks. My screens have been great. Well, that, or I'm not picky. The second replacement seems rock solid so far. Good data speeds, strong signal, solid screen, solid GPS and no SOD/Overheating. Maybe I've lucked out...but I'm not uncrossing my fingers.
I've been through 5+ Nexi already. Tec Asurion is totally worth the $6.99 per month! Free overnight shipping FTW.
Well, so much for Replacement #2. I highly doubt it's the sim card.

Lol why? Seems to me that 2 separate pieces of one HW with a common issue (signal) and only one other thing in common (SIM card) makes the one other thing the most likely suspect...

How many refurbs have you gone through until you got one that completely worked?

I'm going to pick up my third tomorrow. Samsung quality control, or whoever fixes these things, the testing procedures leave a lot to be desired. Maybe, although highly doubtful, if I keep returning phones that have problems that I can show the tech, they'll get tired of it and give me a new one. I'm not being a jerk about it and I know it's not their fault that they keep sending defective replacement phones to them.

Blame asurion not Samsung. If you're going thru sprint the refurbs are coming from either sprints in house refurb center or asurion. You'll only get a Samsung refurb if you go directly thru Samsung

I've noticed the asurion/sprint refurb QC is a little weak compared to Samsung. Probably because samsung isn't cannibalizing 10 differnt phones to rebuild 1 the replace the fouled parts in a device with pre-refurb parts that have already been repaired and tested and aren't just ripping apart stuff looking for bits and pieces to make a whole device again.

0 refurbs for me... However I did get a brand new replacement directly from Samsung in August.

I've had 0 refurbs since I don't maintain TEP. I put what I would spend each month for my 5 lines on TEP in a box and if I break a phone I use what's in that box to go buy a new one. If I dont break a phone I use whats in the box to buy my next upgrade.

1. Had my original black Touch stolen (was recovered - one of the kids friends) and actually it was replaced with the Titanium version.
Works great. I use it for all the testing we do and haven't had any issues.. Since there are a lot of people complaining (not that that's a bad thing) maybe I'm the exception?

Self insurance, that's the way to do it! If you can't swing $200 for an replacement phone from ebay, you got bigger problems than cell phone service.
I've had to replace it once, due to the phantom menu-button press problem. The phone I got looked like it was in good shape, but the capacitive buttons had trouble registering presses. I took it to a corporate store, and it turned out there was water damage on that refurb. They replaced the screen then-and-there, and the phone's been working great ever since.
Outsourcing to Asurion might be cheaper for Sprint, as it is for everyone else, but quality control is terrible.

Asurion is a joke. It's a really big joke in the insurance industry since they technically aren't real insurance but advertise as if they are. They don't have to follow all of the regulations, oversight committees and guidelines like homeowners, auto, health etc. They're a monopolized device replacement program, nothing more, nothing less.

Ive had 3 devices damaged with water. Assurion sent me refurbs on the first 2. The last one had a wonky radio signal jumped up and down. Other wise great. Now the most recent replacement was a brand new in sealed samsung box! Date was 11-2-12 or 12-2 cant remember but definitely got lucky.

So they actually sent you a new one? Wow! Evil, thanks for your input! My replacement is supposed to be here today but I haven't got a call yet. I'm thinking that since all the interactions with repair service has been documented on my account, that if the third one turns out to be defective, to go to a corporate repair center and tell them I want a new one. Unfortunately for me, I'm not that convincing when being assertive. I don't want to be a jerk towards the csr because I know it isn't their fault and they have no control over it. Perhaps I could be polite, tell them my situation, and be firm, that this is not acceptable for a fully functional replacement. I have been paying tep for years without an issue or claim, yet the replacements I get aren't fully working. I know the manager would be the one to make the decision if they would give a new one instead of a refurb. Like I said before, I will reiterate that I know it isn't their fault for the other company's lacking quality control but this coming back a week or less later to get a replacement for the replacement is getting annoying.

That's why I quit carrying TEP/Asurion and just put my $55 a month I'd have paid for my 5 lines in a box. If I break one I usually have enough that if I add what I would have paid for the deductible I can buy a brand new phone. Then if I don't break a device when something new comes out and I want it I can buy it and then whichever device I replaced gets put in my "insurance" box as a backup if I break a phone before I refill my insurance pool.

I haven't had to replace my e4gt, but I did have to replace a different phone through assurion a while back. I went through four...FOUR.. replacement phones before I got a good one. I had one rep tell me that "all phones have lag. It's totally normal for an app to take 30 minutes to download..." OVER WIFI AT HOME. I hate them.

Just got the replacement today. It still has the greenish tinge that I reported in another post but not as noticeable as the previous one. So far, the phone isn't activated because I got home too late from work for get it turned on. I will when I wake up. I will keep my fingers crossed that this one is good. I overheard a previous customer that had the same phone but it sounded like the microusb port went bad so they are going to give him another. They offered him the same phone or a photon. I'm guessing they will do the same with me if this phone turns out to be a dud. I certainly don't want that POS as an alternative replacement. I will just have to wait and see. I'm using airdroid to copy over a video file that became corrupted some how when going from the previous phone to this. It said the file was zero bytes when it should have been 350mb and I did check all the files in the root of the sandisk card and it reported kosher before I removed the card from the last phone. And yes, I removed it properly with unmount sd card before wiping the phone. Yes I should have powered it off but I was lazy and in a rush to wipe the phone and get to work on time.
I got a return
refurb from Assurion a few months back. There wetter problems with it. I called Assurion, they apologized and shipped me a new one.

I got a decent screen after four replacements. I hope you are lucky and only need one
iiSo say we all!! from my SM-P6OO
Tried to return the note today for a replacement. But the carrier (VIVO here in Brazil) from wich i bought the tablet refused to give a replacement, refund neither. Bought exactly 10 days ago.
Here our Law say that the consumer has the right to replace within a 30 days time frame. But every major carrier give a **** about that (actually every retail store does this) and don't play by the rules. Now i must send to Samsung for repair. Yes, repair. I should wait 1 month to receive the same tablet with a new screen.
Now i'm going to sue the company, just to get what i am entitled. Just saying... i think your guys in US or in Europe, don't have to worry about this kind of stuff.

I would've asked to talk to a manager and if they still said no got loud about a device that cost a lot and how they aren't replacing it under warranty. Once the managers get involved and a crowd gathers they just give up and give it over due to the bad publicity they are getting from you...

Did just that. Went to the store, and spoke to the manager. Who still refused to replace the tablet. A crowd was watching and the damage for their image was for sure worse than the "cost" of replacing my gadget. I walked away with the tablet and my lawyer (my wife) sued today the company. We have already an appointment with the judge on 01/30 this month to make a deal. I also did a lot of bad publicity on social networks.
Some people are stupid, they think nobody will sue them. I will continue using my note with the dead pixel until i get a brand new later this month. Maybe i will root the hell out of it just for fun.
