Only try this if you are sure its a hardware problem, click =>this link<= to make sure!
I take no credits for this, just sharing the video
My warranty was void due an unlocked bootloader so i tried it and it worked for me!
At your own risk of course.

Thank you dude.. it works for my htc one x too...
First of unlocking bootloafer DOESN'T void your warranty , if your box will short circuit and dies don't be mad , because it was you who did it when you installed foil inside....

Unlocking the bootloader does void your warranty in some countries/services. So the best is to check because some people say that they got it fixed even if the bootloader was unlocked and some say they didnt
Sent from my EndeavorU using Tapatalk 4
Well wrong again ,it doesn't void warranty ,for your warranty to be void HTC has to provide a proof that unlocking the bootloader caused the hardware failure , so if HTC in any country where it say warranty is void because of boot loader unlocking , challenge them to proof to you that the fault happened because of bootloader unlocking
Warning , dont squeeze if your wifi has reception!
you will cause it to have the no signal issue which is only fixed by sending it off.
Yes, is nice! Great success!
After a 6 hour marathon flashing frenzy trying to fix this issue, your instruction finally did it. I didn't pack foil or similar in mine, instead I retentioned the spring contacts on the board. Good as new! Thanks a bunch man!
I'll try it this week
Thanks!

hi every one, i bought one x (tegra) today and it's fantastic smartphone! But i've got a question: if i unlock bootloader with htcdev.com tool, i'll lose warranty, and if i reblock it, problem is the same. is it possible to do anything or not?
p.s. i didn't unlock it yet, it's only for info

Do you mean RETURN, or warranty repair. Two separate things. Returns are usually limited to a 30 day window, in which case my advice to you would be to wait 30 days to make sure you want to keep the phone before you unlock it. That's the safest way to go.
As for warranty replacements/repairs, that's more of a grey area and I'm not honestly sure.

My one is in repairs. Unlocked and still repairing it for me. All under warranty.

so if i unlock device and it casually breaks, it will be repaired without any problem?
and if it'll brick (software)?

If you brick it due to custom roms or overclock then no you are not covered. If it is say due to screen pops out and not your fault then you are covered mate. So in general hardware related and not caused by you you are covered. Hardware issues but cause of third party software then you are not . There is a thread in general which goes more.in depth

Wondering about HTC's extremely vague message at htcdev.com. "unlocking bootloader may void part or all of your warranty" whereas under the q&a, etc, it sounds more like if you brick your device they won't be responsible. How void is the warranty after bootloader unlock?
i'm assuming there's no way to relock it later.. been out of the ROM flashing scene for a while, so can someone advise me on this?
From what I heard it fully voids it. Even if you lock it again it says re-locked.
Sent from my HTC One X
There are mixed comments on this matter. Some have managed to get their hardware issues fixed on unlocked phones. BUT its safe to assume unlocking boot loader completely voids warranty unless you get an official confirmation from your regional HTC office stating otherwise.
Alright thanks

Bricked One X
Hi All,
I bricked my One X being a noob I then relocked the bootloader (it said relocked) sent the phone off to O2 under warranty they tried to charge me £178.99 for the repair apparently it was "physical damage" i complained as the phone was immaculate and o2 replaced it free of charge!
..well hello new One X.. I've not stumped up the courage to root this one yet just encase!
http://dl4.htc.com/Web_materials/Manual/Warranty/Android/0525_B_WarrantyEULA_76x126_N-EU.pdf
Certainly reading their "Northern Europe" Limited Warranty Statement it would appear that the warranty still applies for hardware issues (section 4), and no where in section 7 does it say it will be voided by unlocking the bootloader.
ZM
Indeed. Havnt had problems with my one x but the nexus1 was also by HTC and after unlocking warranty was fine as long as
The problem was hardware
I had relocked the boot loader and was running stock software
Meaning if you relock then flash an ruu. You should be OK unless you caused the damage

In theory and probably UK consumer law it won't void it but HTC appear to be being [email protected] about it in the UK...
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I dropped my hox to t-mobile store here in the UK to get send for repair, the GPS was all over the place. The phone was unlocked but still on stock rom. I got a txt 6 days later saying that the phone was ready for collection. It came back unlocked, wiped, and still with cw recovery. They didn't charge me a penny and GPS looks like its been fixed.

I read through few posts about people being able to claim their warranty even after unlocking their bootloader , now these people had almost the same problem ..there screen wouldn't display anything or their phone wouldn't boot up at all. So I guess HTC won't check for your warranty if your phone is not booting up ...they'll just check your bill and see if its under warranty and do it for free ...

Well I've seen people get away with this, but I still darent unlock/root.
Because I know what my luck is like and I would be the only one that doesn't get repaired !!
It took me 4 weeks to pluck up the courage to unlock my phone and I'm glad I did. I now have no warrenty but I do have an awesome phone.
Also I heard that if your phone is completely dead there is no way to tell if the phone is unlocked or not. So there is a reasonable chance you'll get your phone replaced.

Yeah I've been debating for about 3 weeks now, would you really say its worth it?
What ROM you using?
And, about the warranty, what does completely dead mean?
Not booting?
Or bricked etc?
Cheers mate.
I am using Cyanogen Domination 10. It is still work in progress but it stable enough for everyday use. I would also say if you do unlock your phone try roms other as well because they all offer something different.
Dead as in bricked, although if you follow unlock steps carefully there is little chance of bricking your phone
I unlocked my phone the day I bought it ... I'm not regretting it all but the little yellow spot in the bottom left corner is annoying sometimes ..

lets just make this clear, its certainly posted here already in many many threads...
if you read the unlocking stuff properly on the htc website, it clearly says that the warranty will be invalid for anything caused by unlocking the bootloader
so if you have a blatant hardware problem, ie the wifi antenna problem, they still have to repair it foc
so basically, unless you brick your device, you still have a warranty.
they might try insisting on replacing the main board for a cost, which i've heard quite often. the wifi fix requires changing the main board anyway, so for at least that problem, they shouldn't charge to fix.
still, it does depend on the type of problem as to whether you could convince them not to change the main board..
This applies to all forums but oh well, https://fsfe.org/freesoftware/legal/flashingdevices.en.html
Well htc could just say ( ya ,modification of software caused hardware failure of such and such component ) than your warranty is void ,its that simple. Htc doesn't have to prove crap unless every complain choose to take HTC to small court claim
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Legally the accuse should prove your fault..
Bear in mind that it is the seller that is obliged to honour this, not the manufacturer. So if you have an issue, you must persue remedy through the seller, not HTC.

How difficult is it to just unroot before sending it for repair?

Bootloader still says RELOCKED, so there's proof. Also you need the unlock file from HTC...so they know anyway -_-

In fact Htc says that if you unlock the bootloader your warranty is void, unlocking is different than rooting

In fact they don't if you read closely. They say that the warranty is void if something happens that could be caused by unlocking. The don't state that the warranty is voided in every case.
In the end it comes down to this (I guess):
If you have a clear hardware fault like a broken display they will probably swap in any case. If you have blown CPU they might or they might not, depending if they like to piss you off or not
If you want to be 100% safe, don't unlock.
If you have a legal protection insurance and live in Europe: Go for it.
If you are daring and believe in customer friendlyness of your dealer: Go for it.
Besides, at least in Germany within the first 6 months, your seller would have to prove that the defect is caused by unlocking, which will be as hard as the other way round after the first 6 months
I was daring; I swapped my device 2 times because of hardware faults (stuck/broken softbuttons and a broken vibrator). Both where relocked, both where replaced without any questions asked (Business contract, I have to admit).
The problem with the HOX isn't just regarding gaining ROOT. It's the fact that even if you unlock via htcdev, you still don't have a fully unlocked bootloader and that's some BS right there.

According to the HTC One X warranty statement: "The Limited Warranty applies only to the hardware components of the Product as originally supplied and does not apply to any software or other equipment." Now, I have not rooted my HOX yet and as so have limited knowledge of the process, but unlocking a boot loader sounds like it is not interfering with the hardware but rather the software (?).
Root have never void varranty for HTC, not for me or enyone I know

Not 100% sure but I think we as the UK opted out of that EU directive mentioned in the original post.

As many members of this forum do, i unlocked bootloader of my One X. Problem is, "official store" says warranty is void. I reported these problem:
Yellow screen
USB not working (charging/DATA)
Overheating
I must say the device worked perfect until last week, and now i have answer HSPL is broken (WTF) and device is not repaird. As far as i know, HTC have warranty for hardware and software separate? I contacted European help support and guy said that he will do everything in his power. Do i have right to go hard on them? Am I right?
I think warrantys are seperated, but overheating is not a real hw pro, it can also be caused by your software so HTC won't give warranty for that.

Not reboot overheat, just basic heat (maybe i overreacted), but what wories me is USB and display problem, which they didnt even consider. Also this is my 2nd HTC on RMA, and pretty much pissed. I was hard on Apple but they allways repair/replace device in no time.
In Europe consumer protection laws exceed manufacturers warranty. You need to speak to your retailer.
The manufacturer has very little responsibilty.
EU laws say, unless the store can prove that the problems were caused by the custom rom, they cant refuse warranty. Go ahead and fight with the store

I contacted HTC Europe and guy promises me that everthing will be ok. I have to wait few more days...
Hope the best for you m8
