Hey guys,
I tried searching through the forum but has not found any solutions to my specific case. I dropped my phone earlier today and it resulted in no physical damage on the screen but the touch screen does not respond and shows up fragmented/ or remain blank. So I have a few questions:
1. Is the LCD broken or the digitizer? and to replace it which one could I buy and has anyone attempted it? could one of you send me a link to what should be bought?
2. the phone is one month old, could I claim warranty on it as the screen is in perfect condition and no physical damage at all on the body aside from a few light scratches.
3. If all else fail what way do I have of wiping the phone clean? (it is stock rooted)
Thanks!!!

After an unfortunate accident my desire's screen broken...when i sent it to the official service of HTC here in Greece they had the nerve to ask me 220€ in order to repair it because according to them the damage is really serious.
Of course they are telling me crap and try to rip me off...i found an lcd replacement in ebay.

Is it the right type of screen? And finally if anyone has ever changed his screen is it an easy process or do i have to sent it to a technician?

How much should they ask? Screen is broken and your warranty is void. They probably are not cheap, but they are the only ones who will repair your phone with utmost certainty. eBay is known as a 100% viable source for OEM replacement parts, so don't come here opening another thread that endeavour didn't work out as planned.
Here is how you dismantle the device.

Had regular screen damage on my tytnII (still haven't the desire, no jinx) screens are easy to self install and the ebay ones are great, work just like the original...make sure you get at stick on screen protector, saves a lot of scratching, smudging and glare.

I don't think it should come as any surprise that service from the OEM is expensive; it is always so. They WANT you to go buy the new device instead of fixing the old one.
I too have switched screens in older phones, with a proper teardown and some patience it is not difficult.
Finally replaced my screen and the phone works!
However I notice a faint line when the screen is all red. Hmmmm.

Moving to Q&A
My friend dropped his SGS3 a while ago and the screen cracked from one of the top corners. Now I know if it's just the glass, the repair cost isn't really high. But how do you know if it's just the outer glass that's cracked or the actual screen as well? If the screen still works (responds to touch) etc, does it mean its just the outer glass?

If everything else works fine (touch, colors, no leak and such) then chances are the it's only the outer glass. Although, opening it would confirm it.
Basically the plastic piece that covers the lense came off and some dust got in.
Now i see little black smudges when im trying to take pictures. Is there a way to put it back on and fix these smudges?
Thanks guys

Got my hands on a S3 with a broken screen and a really scratched up home button, and I'd like to replace both I've done a glass replacement, and I noticed the actual home button was held in with some rubbery clips. I wasn't sure if the home button was attached to some sort of flex cable,
so I decided to leave it alone instead of taking the risk.
So can the home button be replaced without the flex cable?
Thank you!

Recently, my Note II screen was cracked. I wasn't up for the install on a replacement screen so I was referred to a place locally that could do it. I got it back, half of the screen was unresponsive and there is spots of light on the edges of the screen. I called the owner and told me that it is a risk you take with replacing the glass, and most likely will now need a new digitizer, at my cost.
My question to you guys is, am I wrong for putting him at fault? I understand it can be a tricky install, but at least tell me or put it in writing and have me sign. I'm going to tomorrow to talk to him in person, I paid $60 but it's more of the principle.
No you're not wrong but possible outcomes should have been discussed prior to and then you should have in writing....you live you learn.
