Replacement screen gone bad - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Recently, my Note II screen was cracked. I wasn't up for the install on a replacement screen so I was referred to a place locally that could do it. I got it back, half of the screen was unresponsive and there is spots of light on the edges of the screen. I called the owner and told me that it is a risk you take with replacing the glass, and most likely will now need a new digitizer, at my cost.
My question to you guys is, am I wrong for putting him at fault? I understand it can be a tricky install, but at least tell me or put it in writing and have me sign. I'm going to tomorrow to talk to him in person, I paid $60 but it's more of the principle.

No you're not wrong but possible outcomes should have been discussed prior to and then you should have in writing....you live you learn.

[LTB] Digitizer/Housing

I cracked my screen in the top right corner so I am looking to replace the screen. I was wondering if anybody was looking to sell one or a knew of a place where I could buy something of quality other than ebay. If there is a good price, I would also be interested in buying white housing.
I just had the same issue....it'll run you anywhere from 200-250 for a new piece, unless you find a good deal on eBay. I wound up using my TEP and had sprint send me a new phone, it was much cheaper to do.

Damn. Definitely not what I was hoping to hear. Nonetheless thank you for letting me know whats up. Could I probably get the screeen fixed at a sprint repair center that way I would get it back in like a day? Right now the performance of the phone is not hindered in any way so it is not a big deal really.
When I brought mine in they said they don't fix screen cracks. But give it a shot, maybe they were being lazy at my store - worst they say is no.

sprint ESRP covers 1-2 cracks less than an inch in length. anything more than that, you would need to use the ERP portion of the TEP.
that being said, usually if we have the part, and its a guaranteed fix, we have no issues replacing the part. if we dont have the part, we arent going to order the phone as that would ding back on us.
*by we, i mean the location i work at.
doesnt hurt to make friends with the technicians at your local sprint store and see what they can do.
I have a white LCD for sale if you're interested. lmk.

I cracked my screen in multiple places and I found a link somewhere here for one on eBay. It was some $80, and it took me about 10 mins to replace. I'm very happy with it, the only problem I have is that it has a weird orangeish tinge when I turn the brightness to the lowest setting. But since the most of times I just keep the brightness at 50+, it doesn't bother me at all. So yeah, look on eBay.
I have plenty white screens for sale for $50
They are in flawless working order. Ask around, I have lots of happy customers.

I have a question regarding the ESRP policy with a cracked screen. If it's cracked, it's cracked, why does it matter how many cracks or how long the crack is?
About the white screens....
What all needs to changed to go from black to white?

Help Glass cracked. thinking about changing it

Ive never dropped a cellphone but today was that day. I had bought an invisible shield to put it on today when i got home. Right when i got home i put the phone in my pocket but it had it had hole. BAM. it dropped down my leg and hit the concrete face down. It shattered the digitizer but the lcd is intact. My question was, would i be able to buy a digitizer and change it without having to pay 180 for a new digitizer/lcd ? any help would be appreciated.

I'm fairly sure I've read that the digitizer is fused with the screen.
Yeah there's no way going around it. They're glued together as one piece.
FFFFFFFUUUUUUUU dammit

I spoke to some rep from samsung yesterday on my phone and they said it would be 179.99 to fix it. But my question is, do i have to include the lcd ? Because my lcd isnt broke and they sell the glass on ebay for 20 bucks. I would rather try and fix it myself and break it, THEN send it to samsung if i cant fix it instead of paying 180 bucks for just some glass since my lcd is not broken and have them rip me off because they will def reuse my lcd and win anyways.

It's been answered.. if you want to do it yourself you're going to end up breaking your LCD and need to buy the part or send it to Samsung anyways. There is no way around it.
There is a video on YouTube with somebody changing only the glass. Check on YouTube so you will have an idea about how to do it and if you will be able.

I dont believe they are "fused" together. from my history in repairing phones, there is just a small sliver of double sided tape holding the digitizer to the LCD screen. and all you need to do is use a plastic seperating tool to slowly seperate the two. Also, use a good hot hair dryer to help melt away the adhesive. good luck!
Go to a hardware store and pick up a heat gun. Take the phone completely apart, take out all the electronics. Heat the screen evenly and slowly start pulling the screen up little by little while hitting it with the heat gun.
Take your time and don't rush. It can be done but it's not easy and can damage the LCD.

If you do this HEAT the **** out of the LCD and digitizer. It will be very hard to separate the two. Please take pictures and tell us you're approach to help other S3 users.
I had a long ass post written but now it's gone. boo.
anyways. Here's something to consider as to why you can't separate it. If you believe there's a way to get around it then good luck.

[Q] Will sprint give me a new phone? PLEASE HELP

Ok,
So here is my situation. I got a S3 about 3 weeks ago and dropped in after about the 5th day and got a crack in the middle of my screen. It's running at about a 45 degree angle. Well I *****ed at sprint but they said I had to pay the $150 deductible to replace the phone.. So I accepted that and decided I would wait until I could afford it as the crack didn't effect the use of the phone, and was not very noticeable. Well Today I woke up and there is a green line running from the top, to the bottom, on the left side of the screen. Ive pulled the battery, turned it on and off. Still it remains. From what I have read this may be a faulty LCD screen.. If that is the case, Will sprint now warranty my phone for free? Or will they ***** about the crack or claim I caused it with the crack? Any help is greatly appreciated, I have learned much from these forums but never posted. Hope to be a regular poster in the future.
Thank you,
Lucid
They will say the crack did it since you a already made that claim. It's in their computers that you came in with a cracked phone.
Chances are it was the crack that caused it anyways.

What Speedin07si said... Same thing happened to me with the lcd screen crack, just check my picture on my profile, thinking it probably looks similar to yours. I had to pay for the new one, sounds like you do too :banghead: Sorry!

[Q] What's the damage?

My wife dropped her Samsung Galaxy SIII and I'm wondering exactly what the damage is:
1] There are a few small sliver 'cracks?' on the screen about 1/2 inch each. They look to be pretty deep
2] The phone can 'turn on', but nothing happens to the screen - You can hear it booting up and all the programs starting up, but the screen isn't work
3] The screen doesn't seem to be reactive. Normally the phone is locked and a simple swipe opens it with a 'drop' sound. This doesn't happen. However, the buttons below the digital screen light up when pressed.
So, from what I can tell there are three components to the 'screen'
1- Front glass, 2-The Display, 3-The Digitizer
It seems like all three are broken here.
So, is my assessment correct here?
Also, I'm looking at having it repaired here, for $225. :
The site 'gophermods' [.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=897]
"This repair service repairs and replaces:
Unresponsive Touchscreens
Cracked Screens
Distorted Display
This repair is for all carriers: AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint."
[Seriously, I'm not advertising for them.. just honestly asking.. they won't let me post a URL, cuz I'm new]
Regardless of the problem, does it sound like these people will fix the problems?
Any suggestions? Thanks all in advance.
[Note: I scanned the very large "Galaxy S3 Cracked Glass (Read this if it has happened to you!)" thread and didn't see what I was looking for]
That seems to be a good assessment of the situation. $225 is pretty cheap for the glass, digitizer, and screen. So good luck to you.

Before spending $300 or more, try searching online like craigslist. You might find good ones for like 400.

Screen issue

I'm helping a friend out with her Sprint Note 2. She left it in her car during a hot day and said afterwords the screen was black. She said she could still see the screen, but then dropped the phone. She said it wasn't a high fall/drop and it didn't see hard, but there is one hairline crack in the screen. But now the screen doesn't come on at all. She still gets calls and notifications, but can't see anything. She can even answer a call by swiping her screen when it rings. My question: Does she need a new screen? I was thinking about opening it up to see if anything is loose. Would that be possible? I had a similar issue with my old At&t note, but I know that I dropped it hard and it had a few major cracks. I also know this probably sounds like a noob question too, but I'm hoping I can help her out with it.
Thanks for any help. Much appreciated!
Well I am pretty sure you need to replace the lcd. Hot is very bad when it coms to lcd displays. I would suggest getting the full replacement with lcd and digitizer unless you have done this a few times. It is very easy to break the digitizer while separating the two. Check ebay and you should be able to find what you need. If you are unsure that the item is what you need post a link to it and i will check it for you.

Thanks. That's what I thought. I'm familiar with the piece because I was looking for a screen assembly for my At&t Note 2 last year. You've confirmed my thoughts. Thanks!
