So far, impressions are that battery life is much improved in this version. I assume our devs could build a ROM for rooted AT&T devices based on this firmware.
Same changelist as the rest of the newest 4.1.2 releases. Nothing new.

Yes... if it follows the Samsung firmware/csc naming convention, A=regional code ; L=2012 ; K=Nov ; 7=version.

It's the U.S. version. Btw, I just traded my gn2 for a gs4. Screen feels tiny in comparison. Then I took out my iPhone 3G and it looked enormous. It's about the same size as the l920 but has a much larger screen.

Lol. Don't worry, I'll probably be getting a note3 when it comes out. The s4 seems a little slower than the n2, even after I rooted it.

I have the n7100 and it has indeed improved battery life for 4.1.2...however 4.1.1 still has the smoothest performance and best better life I have seen yet.

Hey hey,
I know T989D guys are anxious for some ICS news. I called in today to Samsung Canada for some news about the 100% battery bug (where the battery status will stay 100% until you reboot). Anyway, the gentleman on the phone acknowledged the bug and said unfortunately it would not be remedied until firmware version 4.0 was released. He also mentioned that 4.0 was definitely in the works for the T989D, however, he could not confirm the timing, "whether two weeks or two months, I just can't say".
So, there you have it. I confirmed with him again that indeed ICS was on it's way, he acknowledged it was and he definitely knew what he was talking about.
Cheers!
PS: If you're a T989D owner please post your ROM/Kernel experiences and please recommend your top ROM. Thanks!
Right now im running darksides ROM with included kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473077 it adds many options and cool boot screens I cant say ive ever had a crash... Gonna use it till ics comes out

a call center rep said it will happen, so it will...
i see this ending well... (looks back at similar vibrant threads)
when i bought my t989d from telus in november it said on the website Android 4.0 - available in 2012. This was one reason i bought the phone knowing that it will get it eventually. I do hope it comes damn soon though cause if the gsIII comes out and we still dont have it i will upgrade for sure.
If the T989D gets it, we get it! That's the awesomeness of having a closely related phone to Canadian carriers that care more about updates. The T959D (I believe D) got Gingerbread and we got nothing. Only difference was the antenna bands.

Who cares, once it drops, we just need to wait a bit and we will get CM9. Bell has the international version and they said in December they would get ICS in April. Looks promising for their date since the other 9100s got the update this week. So if the international version gets it April in Canada, i would expect May to be a good release date for the variants.

Agreed. I have a Sensation with ICS port and the only thing that really improved was battery life. A few tweaks here and there...really isnt a big deal and other than better battery management, I dont see what all the fuss is about...the facial unlock that works 15% of the time maybe?

The fuss is many fold. Better application management. Better Task manager. First Android OS that I had not had to run a Task Killer on to be stable (on Vibrant). Slicker, smoother faster UI. Better Memory management and of course as noted better battery life because of all of the above. Finally, it's System settings screen has a better and more functional layout.
The face unlock is mostly gimmick but nice nonetheless. I will use it once I get it.
Another really big thing is the ICS stock unlock is so far the best I have used.
once the official ICS drop for our phones, the first thing any Dev would do is rip off TW and replace it with something else more AOSP like
personally i've never used any stock launcher
the first thing i do all the time is freeze TW or stock launcher, and replace them with Go Launcher EX
the important stuff of ICS is not the looks of it, but rather the raw power by the 3.x Linux Kernel it uses, and the real usage of SMP
all the top layer stuff can be changed or replaced by something else

That's really the only info we have is that it's coming. AT&T states within the month of May on their support pages, but they've been known to not follow through with plans like these.
Looking at the d2spr build, 4.4 on the s3 brings nothing new from the new touchwiz. Just an updated core system with advantages from KitKat. The main advantage being memory usage, but then look at memory usage screenshots here on these forums the memory usage has not gone down(This is probably due to Touchwiz no doubt), more or less the 4.4 update will incorporate corporate features such as Knox 2.0. Which from a developers point it's useless, but it does protect the end user which is good for personal and business use.

After you take off AT&T's bloat, but if you keep the base touchwiz stuff it'll use more memory than the Jelly Bean version.
At&T has a history of sending out updates that are full of issues. I would love to run the stock 4.4, but it is likely AT&T will include some problems with the update to make it much less desirable. The 4.3 update is a good example.

That's excellent that not all phones have had issues. I will say mine has had a slew of different issues. Camera is extremely slow, random slowdowns, latency when waking the phone from the lock screen. All this and 100% stock. I also get absolutely horrible battery life.
I'm really hoping this update... Whenever it comes, will fix many of these issues.

Can't say on the camera part, but it's memory being hogged by AT&T and Touchwiz bloat(You can disable what you don't need, we have it set to automatically disable), the lock delay is a common galaxy issue, and battery life just kind of sucks period. It's going to with 2 radios in there, and a big amoled screen. (Linux still doesn't have the greatest battery support either.)

If you go to the thread - use my settings for best battery or tweak the max frequencies to your liking for performance. You can also choose between Performance, Balanced, and Battery for governor tuner in L Speed cpu tuner section.
Well biggest difference, 117-119K antutu to 130-132K - big enough reason. Aside from no lag and better battery. Plus, more tweaks are coming with better governors.

@opasha stop lying. Battery is worse, up to 10h sot and your settings do not work. Ondemand governon works so bad with this Kernel. Interactive + noop + OC gives up to 10h sot. Stock Kernel 13h-15h.
But performance is visibly better.

Go take a chill pill and come back after you've collected yourself. No need to call me a liar for no reason. I never said to use ondemand with noop on the latest kernel. Go check the resurrected kernel thread. My recent settings are there. What works well for me and others on 8.8.9 eu rom may not be the same for you since you're not even on the same rom. The newer eu roms have more battery drain - it's noted even in their forums from members. Everyone's SOT is also different. You stated the most useless information. Grow up, man. The fact that it is T-mobile shouldnt matter, its the same model as the NA/Global variant. Custom ROM's are in the works. Once one becomes public, the scene will explode with others able to cherry pick what they need.

I'm really hoping to see ROMs make better use of the LTPO display for power saving. As is, it pretty much always runs at 120 and then sometimes drops to 60. I feel like it should drop to 60 any time im not touching it, and even lower if theres no media player. my settings app does not need to sit at 120hz lol

Right but Nostalgia aside, CrDroid or dare I say vanilla Lineage are far better options - in my humble opinion.
I'm only saying this because I flashed havoc on 3 different devices, and it's always been riddled with bugs and broken features.
