Jelly Bean, does it even benefit the Ace 2? - Galaxy Ace II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't know, ever since I updated to the leaked 4.1, my phone just hasn't felt the same. It locks up 24/7, especially with the YouTube app. When I completely wiped my phone to put on the official firmware when it was released, it was even worse! Now I'm on the amazing Sakura Droid CM 10, which is awesome, cus I have unlimited 3G internet anyway. Ever since I switched to that, NONE of the problems I had existed.
My question is, is Jelly Bean for the Ace 2 poorly optimized? My phone ran MUCH better on 2.3.6.
I'd like to add that on my S2, it is also the same, though not as much. (Faster boot, fixes lockups faster).
I'm guessing it isn't optimized for the ARM processors.

Mostly to see if it's a phone problem or an OS problem. Looks like an OS problem.

I love CM10 coz it has a Theme chooser ...

Yesterday I flashed MC8 over GB and it's been working fine since then. Even the AnTuTu score is better than in GB: 5974 vs 5800 or sth.

you mean ST-Erricson processor? since most android phone out there use ARM processor

Jesus... where do you guys get your information?
ST-Ericsson, Qualcomm etc., they all utilize the general architecture of RISC(Reduced instruction set computing) managed, developed and promoted by ARM Holdings.
Thus, any processor that respects their core design is an ARM processor. Just different brands implementing the same general architecture.
And if the thread starter used any of the leaked beta roms, it's no wonder his phone works poorly.

Slower then other SGS2 phones?!?

Hello all, I just got the SGS2 on T-Mobile. I have had the SGS1 Fascinate, Epic 4g, Epic 4G Touch, and now T-Mobile SGS2. I must say that for some reason the interface of this one feels to be the most glitchy (for lack of a better word).
Its not as smooth in various areas, and even seems to have a lower FPS. Its very odd and frustrating considering this is the same hardware as the last phone I had.
I used the SGS2 on Sprint since the phone came out and got a deal on this one.
Anyone else notice this? I hope there is a way to fix this.
I mainly notice this when using TouchWiz but also have noticed it just in the Settings menu. I am sure it has to do with the final carrier development of the Android releases. However that alone concerns me as we mostly base our roms on official releases. I surely hope there is a AOSP for this phone, looking forward to ICS.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to make this smooth please let me know. As expected I have tried many roms which are awesome roms, but most experience what I am referring.
Thx

Well maybe different processors but same speeds. So its a rom thing or what? I hope ICS is smooth.. I ran ICS on the Sprint one and it was really nice.
The speed is not what makes one processor better than another. The other variants run smoother as they have the exynos processor which incorporates a better GPU allowing for smoother transitions, scrolling, etc...

Unfortunately, this is not a software issue. It is a Cortex-A8 architecture vs. an A9. The CPU and GPU are worse on the T-Mobile/Telus versions of the S2. Nothing I have done has been able to make this phone as smooth as my international S2 :\ It's very annoying..

Even Samsung Galaxy S Duos http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_duos_s7562-4883.php comes with ICS
Speechless as it is much weaker than our SGW, in term of CPU & GPU, the only thing it wins is the amount of RAM
There are a lot of ICS phones with 512MB RAM from HTC & Sony, if Samsung is willing to give us support, we would get ICS without problem for sure since Samsung got a big team to work it out, really quite a bad support from Samsung for our phone, luckily we got Arco and some developers who work hard to bring ICS to us really thankful to them!

yes this is right. support al the dev!!
I always look at the bright side of this.
If sammy release update ICS or JB, then we will loose the excitement of custom ROM.
What I mean is like the waiting time of new custom ROM version, the moment when devs release new update and we download it and flash it to our beloved SGW. It's so exciting!!!
Here, we have many custom ROMs and every new release is getting better and better. To be honest, I might prefer custom ROM. Because even if sammy release update, I'm sure it will full with sammy's bloatware.
One day, I met other SGW user. He is just a regular user and don't know anything about flashing. He looked at my phone and say: whoaa..!!! how did you do that?? Can you do it to my phone??
My point is: I DON'T CARE if sammy release update or not. As long as there are custom ROMs, that's more than enough for me
maybe we are not worried about this because there are custom rom. but I feel sorry for those who use stock rom and hope about rom upgrade.

Developers would be able to customized ICS if a stock ICS is already available than creating from scratch. ICS is different from GB. Thats why devs are having difficulties in fixing stuffs like camera for phones that do not have ICS. Devs would love to use working libs for ICS phone-related components. Then porting JB would be much faster too since little is different from ICS.

browser performance

Compared to the other phones I have used I have noticed that browser performance on my GNex seems slow. I have used both stock browser and Chrome. Has anyone else noticed this or have any tips on increasing browser performance? I am using a pretty clean rom (MMuzzy 4.2.1).
+1 this, both the default browser and especially chrome is very slow, I've had better results with third party browsers (dolphin browser, firefox etc.)

There really any risks. It's the same process as flashing a ROM.
Boot into Recovery, Wipe Dalvik and Cache, Flash Kernel.
Upon flashing a new ROM, you will need to reflash the kernel after flashing the ROM as flashing the ROM will override your existing kernel with the packaged kernel that comes with the ROM.

I have a iPod Touch 3rd Generation (really just use it for music nowadays), Transformer, NS, GN, N4.
The only browsing problem out of those devices I had was my Nexus S where stock browser was laggy but it may of been fixed in 4.0.X. On GB, the experience wasn't very good. iOS browsing is definitely smooth, but I can't bother to use it anymore because the screen is way too small.
I don't use the GN anymore, I gave it to a family member but the browsing has been nothing but exceptional. I can't even choose whether to use AOSP browser (stock on GN) or chrome.
It won't make a difference.

I highly disagree that using a custom kernel on Android 4.2.1 will make a noticeable difference. It is my humble opinion that Google has optimized this device as far as possible to the point that these third-party developers can't squeeze out anymore performance - if it was possible the Google engineers would have done it themselves.
I use to be a huge Trinity fan, used it since the ICS days and swore up and down by it - now I just run with stock. Do I notice a difference? NOPE.

By saying that you're implying that NO custom kernel on 4.2.1 on ANY phones it would make a difference. So you're calling everybody a liar in kernel threads because they feel a placebo? It certainly makes a noticeable difference in overall phone performance as well as battery.
Google has not optimized the device as far as possible by ANY means. There are always room for improvement in every device and software that is ever released. As more optimizations are done, it is harder to optimize but there is ALWAYS room for improvement. ALWAYS.
On the Nexus 4, your statement is outright wrong. Google didn't optimize the kernel by any means, there are many problems with it. It is stable for sure, but there is so much Google could of done to improve the kernel where kernel developers are doing quite the job on improving upon it. This goes the same for the Galaxy Nexus as it is the Galaxy Nexus forum.
Colors on stock kernel vs. custom kernel with Color Control... difference? YUP.
Benchmark differences? YUP. (benchmarks dont really mean anything for real-time performance but for some people they are so 'woah' about it)
Improved WiFi performance? YUP. Proved in many threads with newer sources.
Not to mention the PGM module? PGM is so awesome for the Galaxy Nexus that it can't be given up
For me the speed on Stock Android JB 4.2.1 browser is really good but I have issue with uploading:
When I upload files to e.g. xda-developers, ge.tt, mediafire, etc. uploading will fail what have not happened on JB 4.1.2 and older Jelly Bean ROMs.
So if I want to upload file to internet I have to use Chrome.
I use 3G on my Nexus pretty much and the speed is really good compared to other browsers e.g. Chrome, Dolphin.
if there is one thing where the galaxy nexus is really great is browser performance, the stock browser works fantastic, stock or with some custom kernel, the browsing experience is almost the same.. if your browser performance is bad may be your connection or any other issue, because atleast in my case it works perfect.
I just recently switched back to Dolphin after giving Chrome a good month or so to wow me. I don't think it is a lot faster than Chrome, but it is faster. Plus, extensions.
I've used Quick ICS Browser for ages and it's great. Recently started using Opera and it's pretty sweet too, although nut as feature-packed.

Why are ICS ROMS faster than JB ones on DHD?

Ok, generally speaking, AospX is WAY faster than any JB 4.1-4.2.2 AOSP/AOKP ROM I have ever tried.
Any reasonal explanation for this?
Because with every successive iteration of Android, it gets farther away from the software for which the hardware was optimized.
That's obvious, but JB is still supposed to be faster (or at least on pair) with it's project butter and gpu optimizations present..
btw Nexus S is officially running on 4.2 so it's not like jellybean wasn't intended to run on such HW.

My guess is, JB utilizes hardware resources more efficiently. If the hardware capability just isn't there, there is nothing to optimize. Also, with every iteration, reverse-engineering closed-source drivers and making them compatible gets tougher as Android moves farther away from stock.
And comparing a Nexus, which is designed to be upgraded with AOSP for its lifetime, to an HTC, which is designed to be upgraded with Sense once (maybe twice), isn't really fair.
Ultimately, who cares. The faster the better. I've just tried Nikills after using Sabsa Prime - all I can say is wow. It's like using a new phone with modern h/w.
As above, JB isn't exactly designed to run on our hardware. Heck ICS wasn't either.. Its all about the complexity of the OS. You won't run Windows 8 smoothly on a PC that can, just about, handle Windows 7)

I have only run one custom ROM so far. I went from stock 2.3.5 sense 3 which I used for a week or so..... I was impressed enough with the stock performance that the first day I decided this would be my first android phone to leave stock for any amount of time. Battery issues caused me to root and install cm10.1 m3. Turns out the battery is shot anyways nothing to do with either ROM. Cm10.1 runs on average just as fast as stock GB did and it has been just as stable.
So in this case I think stock GB ROM has enough stuff that no performance drop is felt going to cm10.
If I went cm7 I'm sure it would be a lot faster but it's fast enough as it is so I won't give up this ROM for a bit more speed.
Scrolling seems to be 100% smooth 99% of the time, the only lag is like a couple seconds to open an app especially when I have several running.
My nexus one which I loved was not even close to this perfect on any jb ROMs I tried on it. I went back to cm7. The desire HD is way faster.
I haven't tried any other ROMs on this phone and in trying to get rid of my flashing obsession. I probably won't try any more for a while. I hope.

Android jb faster. Fact is that it need some time for the developers to make it stable port to jb. They have make kernel according to it port each and every file according to desire hd. And no one can deny that still after more than a year no ics is complete stable as stock gb Rom.

Your statement is right, from my experience JB is smoother, but ICS is faster (faster opening apps).
But comparison to Nik's ROM is simply not fair as it's a Sense4 ROM which is obviously slower / more stuttering than any other ICS AOSP.
That makes sense to me. I think iv can deal with the extra tiny bit of time opening apps cause I like how smooth the scrolling is.

Samsung Galaxy Fame S6810 Lag

Hope it's OK to post this here as it seems there isn't a forum for this phone yet.
I've got the Samsung Galaxy Fame S6810 on Jellybean 4.1.2 and it constantly lags and freezes.
I've rooted it, used Titanium Pro to freeze every bit of unneeded bloatware I can think of but the phone still lags and freezes.
Even with the cpu profile set to performance it does it.
My old HTC Desire which was also a single core 1Ghz processor didn't have this problem.
In fact my slow as hell HTC Wildfire with slower cpu still didn't do it like this phone!
I would like to try an overclock kernel but after weeks of searching can't seem to find one.
Cyanogenmod would be the obvious answer for a good clean rom but they don't do one for this phone.
Any suggestions or ideas?

No answers yet? Have seen a whole bunch of posts across various forums and sites looking for roms and kernels for this phone but so far nobody is doing anything for it.

How did you set your cpu governor?
I'm sure your phone runs slowly because of TouchWiz. Samsung and its bloatware make good phones to run slowly
I recommend you to install any Pure Android rom, like Cyanogenmod or AOKP. I'm pretty sure that this roms will remove all the lag :highfive:

Could it be one of the apps you have installed? Maybe running in the background sucking up much needed RAM? I have seen this happen also with excessive use of widgets. I would suggest keeping an eye on your running apps and processes. See what is eating up that RAM.

I recommend you to install any Pure Android rom, like Cyanogenmod or AOKP. I'm pretty sure that this roms will remove all the lag :highfive:

I'm sure your phone runs slowly because of TouchWiz. Samsung and its bloatware make good phones to run slowly

Have managed to get the phone usable using this ROM and the mod mentioned here but lag on closing programs and that frikkin black empty screen while waiting for a program to start or close is irritating.
I suspect nothing short of a pure rom or CM ROM will get this phone to be worth the bit of money it costs.
Most irritating is that you can go buy a cheap sh*t Chinese Android Samsung knockoff phone at half the price of this phone and it runs twice as well as this phone. Samsung really dropped the ball on this phone!

I'm now using Techno Rom and Apex launcher, this phone is finally usable.
It wasn't an application in the background making it run slow as it did it from day 1 with nothing installed.
Dumping TouchWiz and the Samsung bloatware helped but the phone still lagged like hell.
Switching to Techno rom has now made the phone usable.

It is all because of the 'Touchwiz' thing, bloatwares and the processor made by Samsung to their devices, that's why they lag that much. I remember my friend who used to own a Samsung Galaxy Grand (The device's processor is actually quad-core), and when I've tried to use it, it honestly lags and freezes alot -_- unlike my oldish Xperia Mini with only 1Ghz single core ported with CM11 doesn't act like these Shamesung phones... Software injections and moddded scripts are all placebo effects and 95% of them will not make the phone faster UNLESS someone will make an achievement to port CM10 or even CM11 to this device
Just a tip, whenever you'll buy a device, look for snapdragon processor built device by Qualcomm Those processors from Qualcomm are really good :good: example of these devices with Qualcomm based processors are the Flagship devices, most of these devices are shipped with this processors
TECNO ROM or another custom rom my sim won't work, it stay in offline mode.
Well, i've uninstalled some bloatware's, including TouchWiz. Now i'm using Apex launcher, and, despite consume more Ram, my galaxy is more smoother than before.
where you set it.......
i think you must try juwe ram script and ram manager pro..
it very smooth
