[Q] unroot lg nitro HD using superoneclick?

I plan to return my nitro tomorrow before my 14 days is up. It's rooted with superoneclick. Should I bother trying to unroot? Would hate to brick it without a recovery rom available.

It won't brick you phone, I've done it several times already.
In my personal experience the clerks don't bother check the condition of the software on the phone, they turn it on (or not) and that's it.
And besides, if it's bricked, well, there is always a wall charger to blame

My mind isn't completely made up yet. I want to love the nitro but the occasional lag, poor scrolling, and battery life is what's ruining it for me. RAM manager has made a difference in app switching. I've been watching you guys closely hoping for proof of an unlocked bootloader as I'm sure another rom or hardware accelerated browsing in ics will make all the difference.
If i ditch it, ill probably just go back to my iPhone 4 for a couple months and see if the at&t version of the nexus gets LTE. I love this display, but don't know if I want to commit to the phone for 2 years. Will let you know what I decide.

Thank [email protected] Unroot worked without any problems. I decided to return it and wait and see what you all can find in the next few weeks. I played with the skyrocket and nitro side by side in the store.. what a difference. The skyrocket is buttery smooth. I would jump on it in a heart beat if there weren't those huge pixels staring me in the face . The HTC Vivid actually felt like a decent compromise if compromises had to be made. Nice qHD display and pretty smooth. I still believe the Nitro has the potential to be the top dog, but not in it's current state.
Keep up the good work. I'd love to see new software on the fantastic hardware.

The display on this is fantastic. I can feel your pain as it's not as smooth as the Skyrocket. I'm not a huge fan of the super amoled - especially compared to this. I have switched to the Zeam launcher and it has made a pretty nice difference. I'm hoping there will be an interim release by LG/AT&T to speed things up and fix some of the other minor bugs.
And most importantly hoping the dev successes continue and we can get some nice custom ROMs going (especially ICS).

I said this in the unbrick thread as well, but really I must emphasize my phone is much smoother with the Korean rom I flashed. I think I feel confident proclaiming that when ICS or hopefully CyanogenMod come to the Nitro HD, this device will be astounding. It's kind of crappy that our current stock rom is so sluggish, but there is good stuff just around the corner I think.

what about bloatware? how much of it there? Maybe that's the reason it's smoother?

Yes, you have 30 days. Every Nitro owner who bought from Att should be able to return it since it came out this month.

I'd actually say there is at least as much, if not more bloatware. I really can't explain why, but navigating through menus and scrolling through apps just feels smoother. Now, I had never done a factory reset and reformatted my SD card until my fiasco, so it's possible that helped and that the Nitro rom might feel smoother when I get back to it.

Well, many people reported their phone feels smother after factory reset even if they didn't install anything prior that.

Are you kidding me, this phone is Soooo Much smoother after doing a hard reset, even with bloatware still on it. Even now the Atrix feel so much more sluggish compared to this phone. I dont understand wat people are complaining about this phone. Yes, there's many kinks on this phone that LG never took care of, but that's why we have XDA and the great minds in it, that is to improve the phones we have.
You know wat, Go ahead, go and change your phones to the GS II. And when the Nitro HD gets a significant improvement in the sense of ROMs or any other upgrades, all of you who left this phone behind can weep and regret your decisions

Compare an iPhone or skyrocket. There's a huge difference in smoothness vs the nitro.. especially with the web browser (even opera). Even rooted with ram manager and hard reset, it just doesn't compare. Saying there isn't a difference is like my friend's saying they don't see the big pixels in the s ii. Say what you want about iphones, but i think they have spoiled me in terms of user interaction.
All that said, I agree the phone has tremendous potential and will most likely outshine the s ii when all is said and done.. My guess is that some of the lag involves software rendering of the 1280x720. Scroll around and watch the nitro's CPU spike. Custom roms or ICS much resolve some of this which is why I'm going to wait it out a few more weeks or months too see what unfolds before committing to the device long term.

What's the advantage of rooting Galaxy S2

Hey people, I just came over to the Samsung Galaxy S2 from Evo 3D. I was rooted on 3D and running Fresh rom, which was basically a stock rom, stripped down and ran smooth. I rooted because HTC's Sense Roms are so laggy and slow sometimes they really need a quad core processor to keep up with the S2's dual core processor IMO. I also had the WiFi tethering, but RARELY used it as nowadays, I can jump on the internet with my WiFi only tablet just about anywhere I go (Thank\ you McDonalds and Starbucks), so I don't really NEED WiFi anymore.
I just want to know if there is an advantage to rooting this particular device in your opinions? I get great batt life so far and use it all day. It's fast, no lag at all. My wife has the iPhone 4S and this seems to be as smooth as her iPhone in every way!

Ultimate customization, removing bloatware, you can install some really great and fast roms including ICS, improved speed and battery life, not to mention rooting the epic 4g touch is really, really easy and straightforward. I'd say root it without a doubt, that's my two cents...not to mention i enjoy doing nerdy **** like that anyway. Go for it man!

I def appreciate your input. I'm not a huge customizer anyway, but I do like to remove bloatware... Thanks...

Removing bloat, a few apps requiring root...
But to be frank, this phone runs so well OOTB, debatable if it's in anyway necessary. I ran stock with no custom roms for weeks before the itch overtook me.

Reasons to keep your root
I don't know how much ads in your games and other apps bother you. But some of the Roms for E4GT has the built in ad block, it has its advantages when it comes to getting a free app or a paid app. Also the developers are very conscious of conserving battery usage in their roms make for longer charge in your phone. I think that alone with great developers showing their talents are worth the reason of rooting, along with the other reasons in this post.

I had the same question so here's the benefits of rooting this phone that I've found
When I rooted my Evo 4g, it got a lot faster, smoother, etc.. it was way better
I haven't found a ROM that's really faster per se.. but what I have found is ICS (which I actually love by the way), and just a generally more usable phone since the settings and what not are more customizable..
If you're not a "customizer" and aren't looking to try ICS now then I really wouldn't worry about... but this is from someone who got extremely good speed and battery life out of the stock phone... that's my $0.02

I really like the input you all gave. I went ahead and rooted, on Caulks Rom now, and so far enjoying it. Put Tiffany's theme (ICS with a little Honey) and it looks really sweet. Wanted to try customizing a bit... OOTB this phone is sick fast and overall just runs great! That is the biggest reason why I didn't want to bother rooting, but then I had a spare 15 minutes in my life yesterday and read your comments. I knew it only took about 5 mins to root, so I did it... So far seems great, runs fast, and looks sexy. I did like the Go Launcher though, but one of my favorite things (Go Launcher Notification) doesn't seem to work with the ROM I am running. Caulks Rom is ICS based, and I don't want to go back to Ginger, so I'll patiently wait for the GO team to fix this issue...

Project Butter - Is it obvious to the naked eye?

People that installed Jelly Bean, do you see any increase in perfomance?

Its not a performance gain. Its just as fast as before just not nearly as choppy. There is a video around here sums it up pretty well.

I do feel like it's snappier, but it's hard to say how much of it is just placebo for hearing about how much snappier it is. There's still some lag every now and then when bringing up the app drawer and such, but there's also graphical improvements that I think make up for everything (the "notification center" or whatever it's called is great).

Although there is Lag in odd spots, I notice neater and smoother transition effects more then anything else. The Keyboard also dissappears when returning to the home screen immediatly rather then lurking on the home screen like it did in ICS. Nothing Major or Revolutionary, but generally neater.

I can tell a major difference after flashing jb.
in old rom chrome is not rendering smoothly when you flip through horizontal tabs comparing to vertical ones. now the problem is completely gone.

From the off, the rom seems noticeably faster and smoother to me.
1. The new app transitions are fantastic. They fade in and out, which is quite slick.
2. The keyboard has ZERO lag, I didn't think it had any lag when I was running AOKP, but running the new JB rom, it's a lot faster again!
3. Home screen/App drawer transitions are a lot snappier. It is now on par with the transitions of an iPhone 4s (Compared with my friends earlier) No lag in the app drawer, even with all of my many apps installed.
4. Last but not least, scrolling long lists is buttery smooth for me Everything just seems so slick at the moment.
On a side note, some subtle changes, like when choosing default action, or long pressing on home screen look a lot nicer. The lock screen looks way cooler. And of course google now seems to be working great. (Aside from having to tell it to use English US, because its not fully functional in the UK)
Hope this helps anyone who was maybe sitting on the fence, I have been running AOKP since getting my nexus, Think is was build 11 or 12 I first had. I am now running Jelly-Belly by Team Inferno and have not even though about returning to AOKP. I will gladly return to AOKP when they release a stable JB update (which will likely be in August some time (JB Source to be released in mid July))

+1 to earlier posts. I can confirm, the "flow" thanks to "Project Butter" is very much appearant to the naked eye. I doubt there is an Android device out there that has a smoother UI than the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 with Jelly Bean right now. Love it.
EDIT: The smoothness of live wallpapers seems to have been greatly improved as well. A live wallpaper called "Fresh Leaves" lagged quite bad when using AOKP 4.0. Now, with Jelly Bean - no lag at all

Agreed, I also think it is definitely closer, if not on par with that of the iPhone and Windows 7 phones.

Definitely solid 60 fps in more areas. My ics setup is probably 45-50fps solid. I noticed less quirky transitions in jelly bean but a few other odd quirks. Still it is overall smoother than ics. And could use a little more polish.

I agree with what everyone has said. Its noticeably a little quicker but it wasn't like ICS was horrible. One thing no one has mentioned is that the delay when pulling up your recent apps is gone. Its now pretty much instant which makes multitasking better. I think everyone should try jb. I've been running stock rooted jb since Wednesday night and couldn't be happier.

I'm a HUGE Google fan, and I've been disappointed. This is 2012, and I genuinely believed that Android is better in almost EVERY way than iOS. But I disagree now.
I watched the io live, so much chest thumping, project butter n stuff - got me very excited. After installing it on my nexus, and experiencing it - I concur with most of the statements mentioned here.
Now it disappoints me because THERE IS LAG and the way Google boasted about butter, and the hackery that has gone into it to make it "appear" smoother - while the odd lag and jerks still exists as before, is a bit of a dampener.
The phone is noticeably smoother, the jerks are still present - if you have an eye to look at it, and considering Android top smartphones pack 1.5 times the power of an iOS or Windows phone - backed by Google, can still not solve this basic UI fluid problem - is disappointing.
I would prefer less chest thumping, and more action in dealing with this problem but after doing some heavy net searching - I've found this issue relates to the core of android, and makes it an inferior user experience to iOS and even Win P7 which runs on inferior hardware too

I have better than 20/20 vision and am hardly a fanboi. It's a significant boost in performance over ICS. Can't wait to see the AOSP ROMS, they shall be killer.

So keep looking, and you shall find.

Considering this is a Developer PREVIEW, I'd have to say it's amazing. There is most definitely a difference in smoothness when compared to ICS. There is slight lag, but nothing that hasn't been seen on competing OS.

Observe your phone carefully - and you would find the same thing as what I wrote.
Now for your question here - yes, you are right, it is a good enough improvement over ICS.
The animations are faster, switching to messages and coming back - is much faster. App drawer, open close is faster - the screen "feels" more sensitive - it works with feather touches - and almost feels like the system is eager to make you feel how smooth it is.
All that works. ICS was smooth too. Granted this one is smoother.
Lag and jerks existed in ICS too, and they do in Jelly Bean as well. They have resorted to other ways of making the phone experience to appear smoother while the problem with lag - scrolling through screens, app drawers, switching from app back to home drawer, and then scrolling - the MAJOR components of lag, still exists.
and irritate. If you're fine with it, cool. Good for you. I expected better of Google. Given WP7 and iOS do a phenomenal job with inferior hardware. Even the iOS part doesnt hurt as much as the WP7 does.
I mean come on! MS making this better than Google? There's some serious questions to be asked on our love for android here.

I don't pay attention to the animations since I typically disable them, and they can indeed be "hacked" to appear smoother. I've always felt that animations are just wasted time. I think that this preview is a sign of good things to come, but also some bad things to come, i.e. the new wifi drivers STILL suck.
I can see your point however. I think it's the trade off we have to make to have such great customization vs the Iphone.

Finally someone had said what I have been thinking. Jellybean still lags a ton! How can Google talk about project butter so Mich while the rom still lags a crap ton?

Its a leaked developers version, its not ready for primetime and was never meant to be. Once AOSP is updated I'm sure it will be sorted. However, it is a promising start IMO. Seems smoother (NOT lagfree) then stock ICS

Everything's amazing and nobody is happy.
You want to see some lag, try a Vibrant on stock Froyo. This stuff does not bother me in the least. It didn't bother me in ICS. JB is awesome. JMO.

well it's been my experience with every android phone and every rom i ever used for any of those phones, that after a month or so from a clean install, things start to lag, freeze, etc. my galaxy s3 has made it about 3 months, but it's starting to get there.
i don't think i'm asking too much of it. i have 4 homescreen widgets. i use nova as a replacement launcher. i have a lot of apps installed (including the preinstalled stuff, right around 150), but most of them are games, and i tend to remove games/apps that come with intrusive ads and unwanted notifications because i want to keep this thing running great.
anyone have any suggestions that don't involve rooting (i really didn't want to have to root this phone, i thought it would be powerful enough to run good without custom roms, unlike say my old g1/g2/mytouch4gslide). i notice one of the biggest issues is chrome. it freezes a lot. i also get quite a few freezes while pulling down the notification shade.
also i'd consider rooting i suppose but only if there's a rom out there with absolutely zero known issues. don't get me wrong, i understand that the s3 is crazy powerful and my old phones weren't, and i shouldn't judge the rom scene based on the performance i got out of experimental roms on a g2 haha, but i never once rooted, installed a rom and then a month later said "yep this is still running great" on any of my old phones. if anyone has suggestions on a rom where EVERYTHING works as expected and nothing has problems, i'd consider it maybe. but at least for now i'd rather figure out a way to get it running better without rooting...
any ideas?

Besides the obligatory answers "download and try a few out yourself" and "your mileage may vary," when I first rooted this phone I had very good luck (speed, battery life, etc.) with the Jedi Invasion ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013568
Besides that, I've heard that the Wicked ROM is great as well as CM10 (10.1 is stable but has a few issues that would dissuade most who are not willing to be on the cutting edge).

yea you know since i posted the thread i've been reading up on the newest roms and Wicked looks pretty damn perfect. if i do decide to root i'm gonna go with that but i'd still love to get this thing working at least for the next few months, with less issues WITHOUT rooting for now... but thanks for the response.

Hello OG's!!! I have been lurking here for about week trying to decide between the S4, OG, and One. I went with the OG because the handset was just too gorgeous, even if it was released 10 months ago, the specs are still on par with anything being released right now. So I took the free upgrade to the OG instead of forking out for the others. My question (as an avid flasher) is what were you looking to correct when you flashed the phone. I always ended up flashing because I hated the skins or I wanted to go from GB to ICS to JB. So for those here who have jumped into rooting this phone, what was it that you felt the need to improve? Battery life? Just straight up AOSP? Wonky camera software? I've been playing for a couple of hours and so far I am happy with the camera (a little patience is required to get a really good shot) and I'm flipping around through the OS and the skin seems to be pretty light compared to HTC and Samsung. I think if I just load Holo Launcher and disable some apps I might be happy on stock. Until 4.3 or KLP get released.

As far as the camera, download the Google Play Edition Camera apk. Way better. As far as launchers, go with either nova launcher or Apex launcher with a JB Skin. I use it over holo launcher because I can hide apps in the app drawer and make the search bar persistent. I also use Holo Locker as my lock screen.

This device is one of the best you can get, and at the same time, can be one of the biggest pains you can buy as well. But, with some patience, balls, and a little insight, you can be running anything you want. If your interests are more towards stock, Lifeless and Vectus are both very good ROMs with plenty of features. If you prefer custom ROMs with lots of extras and choices, I personally would recommend one of the ROMs I work on, Beanstalk and JellyBeer. There are also AOKP, CM10, CM10 w/ Linaro, Rootbox, and others that will give you pretty much any kind of experience you want. Just make sure you read the rooting and unlocking thread very carefully and follow the instructions to the letter to avoid any hiccups. Also worth mentioning is the fact that all ROMs do have quirks and imperfections to them(I believe Lifeless is as close to complete stability as you can get, but it also is as close to stock as any of the others). All of these works are constantly being updated with fixes and new features, but our device can be finicky, so if you require total stability, you may just want to stay with stock. If you need any help, you can PM me, and if you want to learn to build on your own, take a look at Project Rookie II. Be cool

Welcome. I myself had to make a decision between this and the other 2 phones. I'm glad in a way I went with this 1. Its definitely on par with the other "big names" and its just as good spec wise. Only problem i have is the camera when its zoomed. I'm going to try the google play edition like danny stated. As far as rom goes, I believe Lifeless has pretty much the most stable rom going. Its pretty much stock but without bloat. Battery has been good to me, only app that I had problems with was Pro Player, so I got GMMP and its been better on the battery. Great phone overall but kit didn't get the recognition it deserved.
I dont really know LG's track record on phones, but I hope they dont EOL it before KLP. I have a feeling they will because OG2 and OG Pro are out, but then again like I said I dont know how LG works.

I am still completely stock, just added a new launcher, locker, and the Play Camera. I have a completely working photosphere (awesome, something I really missed from my Gal Nex). I have noticed that when taking macro shots, the Play Camera focuses better. But I was able to get some decent macro shots on the stock camera by getting the focus set from farther back and zooming in. I am still tinkering with white balance and ISO settings. But the flash seems to be bright as the sun and I can't do much with it, my pics keep getting washed out with the flash. But the performance, holy crap this thing is fun to use. Everything just pops.
