Virgin Mobile Customer Service Surprise! - HTC One V

So I bought a HTC One V cdma from eBay. The decision was based on specs and availability of a CHEAP smartphone. The phone arrived and it is how it was described by the seller.:good: I'm happy. I switch from Verizon keeping my number and activate on VM. My bank account is now happy. I start reading up xda about rooting the phone. c:\android\ has been cleaned of all my old eris and vivow files scattered about and freshly prepped with PrimoC offerings.
Yesterday was my day off dedicated to this project so I started with a fresh cup of coffee, removed the usb cable from the ac charger, plugged into the computer and... nothing. No indicator from Windows that a new device was plugged in. No indication on the phone that it was plugged in except that it was charging.
I frantically checked the usb debug settings, the developer options, and restarted the phone while plugged into the computer. Nothing. Not even while it cycled through the boot process. I booted into the bootloader, chose HBOOT USB and nothing. I then tried two different cables lying around. Nothing.
*sigh* Bummer.
In a moment of Machiavellian self interest, I wonder if I can get a NEW new phone from Virgin Mobile. My email was thorough and complete. They responded within an hour suggesting I do a factory reset. No big deal since I hadn't done anything to the phone except just use it. I did the bootloader reset and it didn't work. I replied telling them so and they replied within an hour saying that the phone itself is still under warranty and they will send me a brand new phone... just return the old one with the shipping label they will provide.:victory:
Hot damn! Another week to wait but that's another week for devs to work out the kinks!

So basically, you're just saying all of this to say that virgin mobile did good by replacing your phone?
just wondering... did you have the htc drivers installed on your pc?

Yes. I am using my words to share a positive experience.
Yes. HTC drivers were installed and verified to work using two other HTC phones that I have.
Anything else? :what:

I just bought a Nexus yesterday form somewhere else for $100 more. But is a legit seller, super fast shipping, and I'm impatient so that 3 week wait would almost be worth $100.
Either way, if this deal works out good for you. I was just paranoid and actually paid a bit more to buy from a reputable seller and have peace of mind.

I saw numerous recent reports from new egg stating that their "new phone" came with the seals broken, Chinese business cards loaded inside, finger prints, and reports of device tampering (setup program didn't launch, went straight to home screen)
Often on sites such as this, they sell at low prices because they acquire a large stock of cheap devices from an over seas distributor, and having some of the phones having been tampered with would lower the price for them significantly.
Let's hope the sale is legit, and maybe just an overstock of silver/white phones......

I also ordered one yesterday from daily steals. Hoping for the best. I can't wait till it comes in!
I've had my Galaxy Nexus for quite a while. Ordered from Daily Steals as well. No problems to report here. Shipping took longer than I would have liked though.
Oh and if it makes a difference to anyone the one I got from them was a yakju.

Boot into the bootloader by holding down both volume up and down and power.
Scroll to recovery using the volume keys and select recovery.
When you see the android laying on his back press volume up and power. You might have to do it a few times. Eventually, it will show a menu.
Then clear user data and reboot.
Let me know if that works. You will lose your data but your phone will be functional again.
If that doesn't work we can try another method.

I'm going to try to do this tonight most likely when I get home.
I'm hoping there is a way to access the internal memory without booting the device. Someone recommended adp connecting via the computer, and somehow accessing the internal flash memory.
I'm going to copy/paste a well written explanation that details what I've done, researched, ect. In case anyone else finds this thread and hopefully they'll find it useful..
I'm experiencing a similar issue with my international version unlocked gsm galaxy nexus. My device is still on the stock ROM, not rooted, and no modifications. It had been updated to the latest version of Android available for this device via an ota update. My carrier is Tmobile USA.
I got it a few weeks ago from daily steals.com unsubsidized, and had been experiencing intermittent and random restarts of the device. This started about four days after getting the device, and would happen 3-4 times a week, sometimes multiple times per hour.
I researched online and found that random restarts were a common issue with galaxy nexus devices, especially gsm versions, and that at the time there were no known solutions to fix this issue besides factory resetting. Some users claimed after a hard reset, the device continued to randomly reboot. Others noticed the reboot issue stop upon the reset, but only to manifest itself again over time.
After about a week or two of this intermittent reboot issue, the phone seemed to have stopped restarting, or at least if it was, I wasn't noticing it (i.e. It was in my pocket, or I was sleeping).
Now, after it performing perfectly (as far as I know) for about a week, I thought it might have been a fluke, and that uninstalling some programs and updating others solved the issue, and it was just a software conflict.
Unfortunately for me, I was wrong. This afternoon after unplugging my phone from the wall and turning it on, it begun to boot loop. The previous night, I had let the device's battery completely drain to the point where the phone shut off.
Now it's not even staying on for more than 10 seconds at a time before restarting. If I can manage to click into an app before it restarts, it loads up fine, then it freezes, and I hear a Pop sound from the device and it restarts.
I haven't tried hard resetting the device yet, as I'm hoping there's a way to recover some of my data on the device first.
I did however somehow manage to boot it into safe mode once accidentally, which didn't do much as it still rebooted within ten seconds.
Some possible explanations that I've read across the internet include
1) general Android OS error
2) issue with wifi being turned on
3) possible issue with corrupted Sim card?
I've managed to turn off wifi in the few seconds the device was last on, but it still rebooted.
I removed my Sim card entirely and tried to boot as well, to no avail.
I've contacted Samsung USA, but they don't provide support for my device because it's the international version. They gave me a phone number for the UK Samsung support office, but I cannot dial it, as I believe it might be restricted on my phone plan, and I need to get a calling card.
I sent daily steals an email regarding this issue, but I'm not really expecting much from them.
Have many other people experienced the boot loop issue? I've seen a few incidents so far. Is it software? Hardware related?
Evidently people with custom roms are experiencing this issue as well, meaning it's a hardware issue, a software issue that certain roms share the same code, or a driver issue.
What's sad it's that my HD2 with Android hacked onto it still works fine, even after going through the washing machine full cycle while on with a fully charged battery...
Any thoughts/advice?
Thanks in advance for responding.

Ordered a GN from dailysteals on the 21st. It arrived at my door 8 days later. No issues with the brand new phone.
Ordered mine with the most recent sale. Received in about a week with the factory seal almost broken, but it was hanging on by just a little bit. The unit is brand new and no problems. Only thing was the adapter that dailysteals included for the charger did not fit the Samsung Euro wall charger. Luckily had another one.
Battery life has been fantastic so far. I took it out of the package turned it on and the battery lasted over 12 hours without a charge!
It is not a jakju unfortunately and I don't want to mess around with it. The Google Play store website shows it as a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Nexus too.
I bought my nexus when they had it on March 1st and I have no complaints. The phone came brand new in the box with the factory seal and has worked just fine since the day I got it. Even though I paid a little more then it is in I'm very happy with the purchase.

Press and hold the power button and volume button till you get to the hboot screen. Tell me what it says there, either 'locked,' 'relocked,' or 'unlocked.' And whether it says S OFF or S ON below it. Tell me this and I'll tell you how to fix it

When there is a saying for developers only in red color, it means that One X is not a brand new, someone already unlock the bootloader and flash an old version of CWM on it. It is best to get a replacement if you meant to buy a brand new device.
And it get stuck on boot screen due to low battery.

Or, it could be that the person relocked the bootloader while on a custom ROM. But like the OP said, it randomly rebooted, WHILE it was being used. @OP, try running an RUU after checking if the bootloader is locked/relocked

sorry for late replies guys. yes to confirm it was brand new, just out of the box for a minute, bought from dial a phone in the uk which is a big retailer. it came sim free as most of their phones do. Simply opened the box, turned on and it turned off during the input of details, ie our wifi password to be exact.
After that came the red writing with developers only, now nothing. been on the charge all day, still no charging light. tried the wall socket, tried via usb to 2 pc's, and the volume/power thing doesn't work either. how long should we need to hold it to do that?

Toro GNex not charging. I've tried everything!

So I bought my Nexus on Craigslist about a month ago. Everything went smooth, but i noticed the phone would frequently think it was charging when not plugged in or not charging when plugged in. This was because the previous owner did not use the charger that came with it and presumably bent the Micro USB connection. Nothing my trusty razor couldn't fix, just bent that dude back int place. Worked like a charm. I knew i should replace the USB port... eventually.
A few nights ago, I noticed that while I was plugged in charging, my battery was draining even though the little battery lightning bolt was showing. I figured it just needed to be bent again. Didn't fix it. I must've stayed up all night trying to fix it, flashing new ROMs, factory resets, new kernals, plugging it into a computer, new cables, new chargers, new A/C ports... EVERYTHING. I caved and ordered a replacement USB port on eBay which arrived crazy fast. Upon replacing it.... the problem persisted. I've tried more cables, more ports, more ROMs, more kernals, and more resets.
Needless to say, I'm frustrated. Any input...?
EDIT: I'm on CM10 M2 with the stock kernal
Seriously, is this some kind of joke? Every day, a thread like this pops up... if it is legit, search for one of the many other threads with your issue, I passed two scrolling down the page to yours.

Did you even read my post? I've spent two days scanning these boards for solutions. I've tried everything.
No, I didn't.
But I'm not making this up, again, I passed the big one on the way down to this one, it's a very common issue, and like I said to the other guy who just posted one of these threads, some say you can straighten out the port in your phone with a fine screwdriver-like instrument, or you need to order a new USb port + board and take your GalNex apart... Otherwise, with no warranty, I'd bail and get an entirely new and different phone, because this issue is unacceptable.
Oh... you could try a class-action suit. I also mentioned this to the others, I mean really, there are so many of you with this problem, I'll probably be one of them soon enough, may as well start the legal process now...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Yeah I did all that, straightened the port, replaced the USB flex, and all that. I'm still under warranty, so my fingers are crossed that they can't tell that I was inside it. Otherwise, it's off to getting the charger that charges the batteries with a dock.
I had similar issue with my rooted GNex while I was running one the ROMs. I also search everywhere on this forum and Google but i couldn't find a solution. So I tried following steps and it worked for me.
1. Using twrp I reset battery stats
2. I wiped calvik cache and system
3. Instead of a flashing a newer zip I restored one of the Nandroid backups of the system.
After reboot I tested if my phone was behaving normal and certainly it was and I haven't had same problem since.
I don't know if there is a way but may be you can go through my post and I had mentioned same issue on this forum and didn't get a response from no one.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I did restore to an earlier ROM, maybe I'll try some of my other backups. If that fails, I think I'll give unrooting, relocking and going to he stock ROM and give that a shot. It's a really frustrating endeavor, I've got to say. I will post an update after trying even more methods.
Just don't settle for battery docking, fight for that warranty. Although don't tell them you took it apart.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Alright, so going back to stock, unrooting, relocking, and all that didn't fix the problem. I managed to squeeze a service ticket for my Samsung warranty. I'll be shipping it off later today, hoping they fix the issue free of charge. I hope they don't notice I swapped the USB flex, I don't want to end up paying money for repairs.
I'll post back here if I ever get any relevant info about the issue from Samsung. Thanks for the input, folks!

[Q] Verizon says I own a Paperweight Help.

I have wrestled with this phone, and searching this forum and others looking for an answer and none have been found yet. Here's my situation.
I own two HTC DINC2's. My wife's wouldn't power on. Talked with Verizion Tech Support and they led me into HBOOT to try to clear cache, then to factory reset. After each attempt I get the HTC White Screen, then nothing. I must pull the battery out to reboot. We took it to a Verizon store, and they said there was nothing they could do. (grumble)
When I plug in my phone to my computer, I get no USB support. Windows 7 says the USB device has malfunctioned. So most directions to root or flash the firmware instructions are of no help. The phone will also not charge. When I plug it in, I get the amber light for about 30 seconds, then it shuts off.
HBOOT menu reads as follows...
**** LOCKED ****
VIVO_W XB SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.98.0000
RADIO -1.09.01.0312

I have formatted the SDCard and tried a new PG32IMG.zip file. It will load, but the result is the same. I have tried this with a completely different SD Card, with the same result.
Is there anything else I can try, or is Verizon right...I have a paperweight...??
I would probably replace the Charging port

I take it that the phones are not on warranty anymore?
Did these phones work in the past?
Of course, different outlets and USB chargers may help with the charging issue. Although I'm sure you've tried this.
For your phone, try a different battery maybe?
If all else fails, you could try to manually replace the charge port. :/
Try booting up a Linux Live CD and trying to USB connect with that.
Does ADB work?
For your wife's phone...the only thing that comes to mind is rooting and flashing another ROM.
If it makes you feel better, you aren't the only one with issues.
My screen digitizer is failing. (Thread in Q&A - "Phantom Touch Input")
No, no more warranty says both Verizon and HTC. My wife's phone worked perfectly til about a week and a half ago.
I have tried about 3 different USB charging cables...both those that came with the phone and other micro usb cables.
I have tried both of the batteries, both fully charged to no avail.
I don't have any experience with Linux, and don't think it would change the PC recognizing the phone.
The computer will not recognize anything with the USB, so getting to ADB is a problem.
How can I root/flash a rom without the computer?
I'm afraid that if I replace the charging port, I may still need to replace other things. The Charger doesn't really explain why the phone won't get past the white HTC Screen, right?

[Q] S3 Not recognized by windows, no recovery, no download mode?? But boots normally!

Ok so, I just did a trade on Craigslist recently and got an S3 from Verizon, clean ESN and all, it just had a cracked screen. Well the guy had already bought a replacement he just didn't know how to do it. Did the trade, got home and completed the screen repair. Works great, well it boots up, but here are my problems....
1. Phone is PIN locked and I don't know it and he can't get a hold of the guy he got it from.
2. It will not boot into anything but normal, no Download mode, no Recovery, nothing.
3. Windows doesn't recognize it. At one point in my 100+ times of connecting and disconnecting it, it did recognize it and was going to install the drivers for it and then it said device unplugged, which it hadn't been.
So now I come to the great world of XDA and see if we can't solve this issue together. Anyone have any ideas? I have tried 4 different USB cables as well. All of which work with my current S3.
Tried this over at the Verizon xda forums and have gotten little response...thought I would try here as well.
Only other thing I can think of is to make a JIG and hope for the best...
Thanks
If it is Pin locked I don't think there is nothing you can do. You should try to contact the seller and return it to him and get a refund. The original owner could claim Stolen phone and you are stuck with a paper weight.
Post this in the Verizon section. You have a different device model than is covered by this forum.
Make sure you're using the Verizon instructions to enter recovery, they are different.
