Hi everyone.
I'm new to the forum and really need some help. I have a rooted Note 2 which I have been flashing roms on for some time now but recently upgraded my computer to an iMac. Now I have no idea how to do this on a Mac.
I have so far managed to download the file and convert it to a zip file but when i try and flash it on my phone it fails every time. I am obviously doing something wrong as I cant get it to work at all. My windows laptop is on its last legs so I wont be able to use that much longer.
What I am hoping for on here is that someone would be kind enough to give me a step by step guide on how to do this on a mac. I know I am asking a lot but I have heard so many good things about the people on this site that I thought I would give it a try as I am banging my head off a wall trying to figure out what to do once I have the file downloaded.
I am very new to using a Mac which is why I need step by step guidance. It's not a dodgy download or anything like that as I have tried numerous roms.
I thank everyone in advance for helping me with this.

Hi guys, My name is Mike and I would first off like to thank everyone for their time and devotion to making our android phones so much better with rooting, roms, etc.
I am very new to messing around with any sort of programming I.E. command promts etc. I am going to attempt to root my phone (Sprint HTC Hero 2.1) using the instructions from this website....xda: How to root sprint 2.1..
Im creating this post to hopefully show others who are afraid to take the risk that it cant be that hard with a guide like in the link above and also just in case i need to ask questions. Like I said before I have no clue as to what the hell I am actually doing Im just tired of reading and feel its time for some doing. Currently the files are downloading as I type so in the meantime if anyone could suggest a kick ass rom and some links possibly it would be much appreciated.
HERE I GO lol
alright i downloaded hero root, htc sync, and sdk. So here is my question is this the correct location if I unzipped hero root into the tools folder of sdk? :
\Users\us\Downloads\android-sdk_r06-windows\android-sdk-windows
the reason I ask is because I don't know if the command prompts are in unison with the names of the locations.
I am extremely frustrated having followed a guide step by step several times with out any luck. I have a GSM phone purchased from Google and running 4.1.1. I am on a Mac. The step by step guide seems very nice and very easy to follow but yet I get stuck 3/4 of the way through. I tried wugs via a PC but a horror show with drivers.
The phone has been unlocked. The screen tells me that.
Is there a nice tutorial to hlep me through this? What I have learned through 3-4hrs is that for some reason "clock recovery" isn't getting installed.
Any help is super appreciated.
Sorry for the frustration. I am a nice guy lol just seems like I am so close but yet so far from rooting. :crying:
Thanks in advance
I can help you out through teamviewer. Its a remote desktop control meaning i will see what you see and can guide you through rooting. I'll even help you flash a new ROM if you would like. Let me know install teamviewer and PM me the ID and Password and ill help you figure things out.
Sorry Folks, I'm new to this site/forum, I would like to upgrade my HTC Desire HD to the 4.0 update, which I read/watched is working well. My problem is I'm fairly handy with my phone and somewhat with computers. But I don't see/understand how to actually go about that. I thought I saw somewhere, that I am to factory reset my phone, I can handle that, but I guess what I don't understand, is how I actually get the update ONTO the phone. Do I just go this website and clink on a link from my phone and it will take over? If so, which one, I see links all over the place. Should I remove my memory card? I'm assuming this site is for really phone, computer savy people. I just want to try the update. Would be happy to donate to the site, once I get it going. Can someone please help me. Thanks for everyone's time of reading this. Sorry for my ignorance.
Cheers.

Before screwing your phone read this guide carefully Post #7 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1824379)
There are also lots of interesting stuff in there so read, read and read.
Hi, its a little more complicated than you suggest in your post.
First you will need to disable the security on your device (known as s-off) and flash a custom recovery.
You need to download the rom you wish to install and save it to your sd card. See here for a list of custom roms, there is a section for Android 4.0:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1610483
Boot the phone into recovery, wipe you phone data and factory reset then install the rom.
You can use this to unlock the phone and flash clockworkmod recovery:

Do loads of searching this forum and googling so you fully understand the process as there is a chance of bricking your phone if it goes wrong. If you do your homework, are methodical and computer savy as you mentioned you should be fine.
Good luck!
Thanks, But...think I'm screwed.
Thanks Guys for your help, but I think this is way beyond me. Its not that I'm lazy, but I can't see myself reading tons of posts and researching for days to do this. I'm having a hard time even finding relevant info that pertains to what I'm trying to do, links and stuff everywhere. Doesn't seem like a lot to ask for to have a step by step guide. You know what I mean ie: Step 1, Factory Reset, Step 2, download this file Step 3. Run it etc... Oh well, I will just suffer with this phone, and probably get stung getting out of my contract early and get a Samsung G3 or something. I had thought this was as easy as factory resetting my phone, downloading a thing or two and then just running it. Too bad there wasn't a store or place I could take this to, to get it done properly by people in the know. Would gladly pay to have this done.
Thanks.
Everything you need is in the link and guide glevitan gave you. But you do need to read. If you don't want to, the rooting and flashing isn't for you.
Sent from a dream.
Hello, I have searched and read for days without an answer to this. I am a long time iPhone user, and jailbreaker/dev, who has just jumped ship over to Android. I have the US AT&T Galaxy S3. I am attempting to root it using a Mac. I have read the guides, and watched the videos from appdr0id, however, it is not working for me. When I use heimdall I get an error that it failed to initialise. I am guessing, from what I read, that it may have to do with missing Samsung USB drivers for my Mac, but I can't find them anywhere to download. Also, I would like more info about whether or not I need to place any files into the phones file system before flashing, which files, and where, as this has made no difference. I have heard great things about Cyanogen Mod, and would love to try it, but I am open to suggestions as to what to use post-root. Will someone please give some directions for rooting and flashing using my Mac, or some more detailed guides?
Here is a screenshot of the error.
Heimdal doesn't work on the US sgs3. Easiest way is either Bootcamp or a vm.

Wow, thanks. I haven't read that anywhere. I think I will do it with an XP or Win7 vm, then. Now I have to search for a Windows how-to guide. Argh!
Hey xda, I've researched this on and off and could never find a solution or definite answer.
I've been thinking of doing away with Windows instead of dual booting.
Edit. I should state I'm using Linux, specifically Ubuntu mate.
So my question is: Is there a reliable way to flash stock firmware, specifically on the note 4?
Either by heimdal, or Odin in a VM?
I've tried Odin on vm before couldn't get phone recognized. And can't trust the answers I've found about heimdal, being safe or not. So if someone with some experience and a confirmed solution could help, please.
My primary concern is for the safety of the phone, so if Windows&Odin are the safest, or if other options are risky then please let me know.
Thank you all on xda for all that I've learned here!
I would also like to know the answer to this question. My desktop is an iMac. I have a couple of laptops that are dual boot Win 7/Linux. I too, would like to get rid of all my Windoze machines, if I can find a reliable way to flash ROMS. I hardly ever boot into Windows anymore. Thanks to anyone who can enlighten us.
Have a look at my tutorial: Odin on Linux. Hope this helps!
