I have friends who jail broke their iphone and have the ability to download the song they are listening to on pandora from pandora. Is there anyway to do this on android/GN2?
Be a cool function. Lots of great songs that come on that would be fun to have
That would be cool in a sense but what would the point to having "Internet Radio" if your just going to download the songs anyways?
My opinion of course.

So if you here a song that you like or haven't heard for a long time sense Internet radio plays everything you can download it and listen to later
Very true I hear ya on that, thats why I agree with the feature being cool but not needed IMHO.
I just use "Piratebay Browser" and "aDowloader" apps to get what I need, just to help you out IF one day this feature is available.
Not really sure if this an appropiate thread though, hmm, since were kinda talking about piracy?
but I agree someone should make an app similar to the "YouTube Downloader" app.
Shhhhh. Lol.

Do you have any idea how much it costs to record and press cds? Artists don't make what you think from cds. They have to pay for studio time, sound engineers, producers, writers, production, etc before they make a profit. Stealing from an artist is stealing period! No matter how you rationalize it for yourself. I don't understand that way of thinking and why or how anyone thinks it's okay to steal the work of someone.

Honestly, artists don 't make jack from selling albums. They make the majority of their money doing shows. A lot of EDM artists give their music away for free and once people get to hear it they're willing to shell out big bucks to see them live.

They make anywhere from 10 cents to a dollar depending on their contract per album sale. You've actually shown how much you don't know about the music industry. The group pays nothing out of pocket for recording unless they are just starting. How it works is the record company pays for the studio time and pressing. Then they keep all profits from the group until that recording time is paid off. Afterwards the group gets anywhere from 10 cents to a dollar or so from each album sold. So if a band of 4 people sells 1,000,000 albums in a year and get 10 cents from each album each group member gets $25,000.
Bands make their money from concerts, branding, and endorsements. They get screwed on record deals. You're stealing more from the record company than you are the artist but the artist gets hit harder. So...some food for thought.
Sent from my SGH-T889
Lol, are you people really serious? Worried about professional musicians and people "stealing" their tracks. While I'm not promoting stealing, I bought literally thousands of dollars of overpriced cds and cassettes for many years. It was always nice to drop $15 or so on a cd, that conveniently had only one or two good tracks. Funny how now you can but single tracks, and fairly cheap. I'm sorry, but that's life. I've been in business for years for myself, dealt with people stealing, employees stealing, busting my ass. Not one person gave two ****s about me. I'm far from rich. Struggling, unknown artists, yes, I feel for them. Someone that downloads a jay-z, 50 cent, or whatever for free, im not losing any sleep over it.
That being said, if you can't pay a measly $1 for a song you like, you have issues.

I've got a quick question I need answering - someone here maybe able to do it, or if not then direct me to a busy iPhone forum where I'm likely to get a quick response?
I want to send some mp3s to a friend who has an iPhone, but don't want her to have the hassle of transferring from computer to phone.
As far as I'm aware iPhones can't download and save files from the web, right? So uploading them to file-sharing service is out. Is there some sort of streaming service, or anything really that I can use for her to listen to these mp3s?
Thanks in advance, and apologies to the mods for a blatant non-Desire related post! It is related in a way, cos I'll be sending/uploading the mp3s from my Desire - absolutely LOVE this phone, it can do anything!
Unless she's Jailbroken her phone, This isn't possible. If she has, Then she should consult a Jailbreak speciality forum for how to...

Also, Just by wording the title something like 'Sending music from my desire to an iPhone' would make this seem a lot more on-topic.

Thanks, I've just checked out your suggestion, but it states:
"What kind of data can be shared?
We try to enable as much data types as possible. The iPhone SDK allowes us to only share contacts, text, bookmarks and images. Android is much more open and we can utilize other applications as data providers. With Android you can throw and catch contacts, text, bookmarks, images and as of lately music. We will add other types like .pdf and .zip soon. "
So it would work Android to Android, but not to iPhone. It's such a shame that Apple holds back stuff that everyone else can do. Ultimately it's the iPhone user that loses out...
What about bluetooth? Can an iPhone receive mp3 files that way?
Nope.

Oh well, you never know - King Jobs might see fit to allow this simple functionality in a future iPhone OS update. Til then, my friend will have to go through the "adding to iTunes library and syncing to phone" bullsh*t!
The sad thing is, most iPhone owners don't know any better - as far as they're concerned, the only way to get anything on any phone is via the magical iTunes. It would be funny, if it wasn't so tragic.

Given Google's vast resources, this could blow away Siri.
Although I'll never understand the obsession with these type of applications.
They seem to be more of a novelty.
No, no, no.
Google's actual answer to Siri is:
"HAHAHAHAHAHA... You think that's actually useful?!?
Okay, well in that case, we've had that kind of thing for years.
Not that it matters..."

I just really don't find it practical at all.
Let's see... I could either...
A) hit search and type what I want real quick and hit enter
or
B) load up an app, talk to it, have it take a second to figure out what I'm saying, then it searches and, assuming it understood me correctly (and don't give me the BS that Siri always does I tried it and it doesn't), get what I could have spent half the time looking for handed to me....and look like a weirdo in public doing it.
Yeah, no thanks, I'll choose A.
I just don't understand the fascination with this recent crop of voice-recognition software. I get the "natural language interpretation" angle. That is exactly what needs to be enhanced...but...aside from that (and procession power, sampling ability and storage capacity) I have been doing command and action oriented voice recognition since, what, 1992? 1993? It was an addon pack to OS/2 v3.0 Warp. I think Dragon Naturally Speaking came out shortly thereafter....I could be wrong, It's been a while and I was a teenager back then.
Sure, the response is quicker...some times, we are network bound now....and it is a slight bit more accurate, they used to be trained to you....and thank GOD it doesn't require the training sessions it used to, though that reduces flexibility for accents and dialects....but...it's the same god-damned trick. Siri is no different, it's just a slightly (very slightly) more thoughtful implementation of the same 20+ year old technology except now we are server bound which, on Sprint, can be a horrifying experience at times.
I do think this is one of the many "next steps", but, it still hasn't gone gold yet. I'm a little surprised that Apple put out beta software. Especially given that it's been beta for 20 years now. There is no end game. It's infinitely incremental improvement....perhaps that is why. Though I think it is more telling that Apple felt they needed something ostensibly "this big" to compete that they were willing to put out beta software.
Interesting times....
I'm not gonna lie I love Siri for things like setting alarms, meetings, reminders, and calendar events. Stuff like that is helpful and quick but I don't need it to text for me or read me texts or search for me.
I don't know if this has been mentioned, but "Majel" could refer to Majel Barrett Roddenberry, wife of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry. She was and still often is the voice of Starfleet's computers.
its funny we look schizo talking into our PHONES... I think its the note-passing tween girl 'social' networking market that keeps not talking on our phones alive... imagine if people were on an old corded phone talking to all their friends as much as people text now... I know I would throw that person out if my house... anyways... I like voice recognition for driving... and I talk texts all the time in my work van... dreaming of sideswiping the idiots texting while driving... seriously... doing makeup/shaving while driving is bad enough... but texting is just silly... youre not that important, get over yourself... I dont care who you are. Heres an idea... here in WA state, we have a distracted driving law... poorly enforced... it would be AWESOME if those who got caught texting while driving had the transcripts of the conversation read aloud in court... and hopefully published if funny enough.
grrrr... phones are for hacking not idle conversation!
I still don't understand why Siri is even this big of a discussion like Matty said, it'd be much faster to do it manually then to wait on a robot.

Ways for this to blow Siri out of the water:
Use Majel Roddenbury's voice from Star Trek licensed from her son
Integrate Siri-like voice commands to an API for IP-remote applications for Google TV and other Smart TVs
This would pretty much steal the thunder away from any Apple TV rumor

I'm still not so sure about that. A number of them were scared into dropping support once they realized that had no idea what was actually going on in the bill or on the internet for that matter. The public backlash was pretty tangible. If things get more serious protests would likely get more intense and the backlash would likely be epic.
Do I think that means that SOPA/PIPA have been defeated? Tough question. Chances are bills called "SOPA" and/or "PIPA" will likely never get passed...but I think it's not unlikely that they will be dismantled into pieces and stuffed into "feed the poor orphans" bills, "job creation" bills and "unemployment extension" bills....what kind of heartless prick would vote against unemployment benefit extension, jobs creation and feeding poor orphans?
...only honest politicians. Good luck finding one of those let alone enough to keep something named like that from passing.
Well, as you all know the government only works for the rich. So, when the rich think there precious profits might be damaged they will arrest you. That is exactly what happened with pirate bay. They forced a foreign government to arrest people who hadnt committed a crime in their own country.
For the record I use megaupload all the time to download roms. I think we all do. They are far from pirated so hopefully they will see the site has a great legitimate purpose.

I never said it wasn't the #1 sport in the world.
I will put this forward though, maybe it is the #1 sport in the world because all it requires is a ball and your foot to be able to play. Because of this just about anyone can play it and get into it whereas most other sports require a lot of equipment and cannot be played or enjoyed by as many because of that.

Personally I do not understand it's popularity. It is a fun sport to play but I cannot get into it when watching it.
I am getting along with everyone, and besides, there is nothing wrong with having a bit of fun by saying soccer sucks

And how do you spect some people to take your first comment, just cause 99% of americans are not into soccer, it means the sport sucks, they claim their sports ar better just cause they're not culturized enough to open their views towards other cultures, english is not the only language in this world, your sports are not the only ones played, only in your country are number one, american football, baseball are not worldwide sports that doesnt state they generaly suck even if i think that they potentially do, point is keep the fact of generaly criticize something to yourself on a topic that obviously you dont care, yet you had to stick your nose into it

For as long as most android users, most have been with android since the beginning. We now have gaming, interactive apps and all sorts of cooky apps. Some to most of which are priced.
Here's an article I found trying to find Indie PC games for android "I failed".
http://www.webpronews.com/android-users-dont-want-to-pay-for-anything-2012-07 it talks about android users don't pay for apps, mostly because of root/no trial-free version.
This struck me as interesting because honestly I'd figure devs to be happy to share there work with the world for free. I honestly myself believe devs who charge just want money.
I do unfortunately buy some of these terrible products, but do give props and respect to those who do manage to make a fantastic app.
If its priced at least make it a good app, give a trial or free version.
This is where gaming comes in, obviously we know if not most games are marked with prices with no free trials and are half assed.
So I can see where piracy comes in, no one wants to pay 5.99$ for a half assed game. I've bought some games I regret and I proudly say if they release another I will pirate it. Sometimes its better to stay free, if its a great app or a dev who has done previous great work I would support them.
Yes I do pirate and I don't. Its where I stand with the devs and apps.
I'm shocked we don't pay for ROMs honestly.. these devs are fantastic at what they do and yes its for free, so props to them "unless it would be illegal which I don't believe it is" :sly:
Anyway.. I'm curious what you guys think?
Feel the same, do you support every dev in the play store?

This is not meant to be offensive, but I might rant a bit.
Devs sharing their work for free? Have you ever programmed, taken a programming course, or had to pay 80k for a bachelors in Computer Science? It is time consuming to think of a good idea, implement it well, and then squash bugs. It takes HOURS, days, if not months.
Yes, there are devs who charge for crappy apps and I agree, some devs are greedy. However, isn't paying for an app the same logic as paying for a pizza? Yes, you can make one yourself, but its not like you can make a quality pizza without spending a lot in ingredients or machines (ovens, etc)--you're paying for the convenience of it being done already for you.
This applies to apps as well. You may be able to program something similar given enough time, but you are paying for the convenience and their time for making the app for you to use. Just because it is digital and not tangible doesn't make it any less work.
Now I agree that there should be some sort of trial for an app to see whether or not its good or that you like it. Unfortunately, the world doesnt run on this type of honesty and nobody would pay if it were offered for free. Thats why devs have to charge and thats why some people pirate. However, if you do pirate, please throw the developer some money if you really enjoy their app or use it frequently, otherwise if they go broke, how will they keep developing your favorite app?
/rant
You are right.
No argument* I want it to be a clean talk amongst android users.

I don't see this thread going anywhere but down hill and fast

Same goes for PC games. PC gamers can't rent games so they pirate. If you buy a PC game , guess what, you're stuck with it.
But, as for android apps at least we can get a refund which eleviates the need for a trial in some circumstances

Piracy is a huge issue on Android, but like any thing you just have to put a little effort into making it more difficult to crack. Although a lot of people say that leaving it free with ads actually makes them more money then charging for it.
http://techcrunch.com/2012/08/26/how-free-apps-can-make-more-money-than-paid-apps/
edit: if you like indie games you should check out the humble bundle
OP, your logic is horrible. I do applaud your honesty, no matter how awful I believe it to be. Devs create content have a free will choice to make, and those who charge are well within their rights to do so. NOBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO STEAL, EVER. Now, having said that, some devs create content as their job. How can they buy food and pay rent if people steal their stuff. This thread is a failure, other than highlighting the challenge Google has in locking down Android to prevent piracy but still allow side loading and customizing.

Didn't jellybean announce new device specific encryption for apps. Though I'm doubting it won't be cracked...

Yup says that in the article.

You're basically asking for a carpenter to build a house and give it away for free. Development costs time and money, and they have every right to ask back so that they can continue.

I think everyone likes free stuff, this is normal
When i was new to android, i swore i would never pay for an app or game, and was happy that way. Then i got titanium backup and loved it, but hated that i couldn't batch restore, so i broke down and bought premium. Then i started frequenting these forums, seeing how much effort some of these devs out into their apps, games, etc. Now i pay for them, gladly, an i look for paid apps by respected devs first. Mostly i do it for functionality, but also to support. Titanium Backup, Franco kernel, CWM touch recovery, root explorer and many more I've bought and will gladly continue to do so. I get better apps and i support further development. Win/win in my book.

Right, because 5.99 is such an exorbitant price... so many other things that I could do with that money that would have lasting value... wait. No, not really.
If you don't want to spend the money on the app then you don't really want it. Don't steal.
Because of this thinking and abuse Android is full of crap adware/push adware games, and you don't see most quality games released for Android. That is so sad.
I just have one question: do you work for free? Or do your poor employer have to shell out some bucks to have you working there? Yes, I wonder why those bastard devs charge for they hard work, or use those ad craps to try to get some money out of their hard work...
And also, you say, there is a lot of sh1tware, yes, there are, as there are a lot of sh1temployees.... You hire them, they do not do their work, they get fired... You buy sh1tware, you realize it is sh1t, then you won't ever buy anything from those bastards again... I really loved when you had an entire day to get a refund in Android Market, but them, a lot of smartass3s had to abuse it, and just use the game/app for the entire day and ask for a refund, doing that for several games/apps....
So, if Android market for games is like it is today, is just because most people think like you, either don't buy anything at all, they prefer to stick to a free ad game than paying 5-7-10 bucks for a quality game like Infinity Blade, or, worse, they just pirate it, and yes, installous and jailbreak exist for iOS, but this is not as easy as just ticking a box in settings menu and then downloading APK's from anywhere...
Don't get me wrong, I love the way Android is open, but, unfortunately, most people suck and doesn't know how to use freedom, instead, they abuse and try to get advantages out of it...
Unfortunately Google will probably end up walling their garden because of these issues, or at least surrounding it with thorn bushes

I hate how articles act like piracy isn't an issue on other platforms....

Yup. Jail broke my brother's iPhone and the first thing he ask is, "OK load it up with apps for free."
I stared at him and made him learn it himself. He did, but still, $1 doesnt kill.
I just bought COD: BOZ, a $7 app. The closest I am to pirating is "Game Sharing".
Me and my friends put each other's Gmail account(requires a lot of trust Cuz we can tamper with each other's mail & stuff) on each other's phone and share our purchased apps. Done.
I do admit I pirate once in a while(Nova 3 being one, so laggy that it wasn't worth the price.)
But there is one punishment I love about Jailbreakers, if you pirate your apps, u can't put em back in when you unjailbreak to upgrade to the next iOS.

If I have helped you.... hit that sexy thanks button. ^_^
Pretty much all the people I know who own an iPhone or iPod touch and have it jail broken mainly did it for installous...

i never thoght i would pay money for apps or anything. but later on as i used android, and looked at forums, i realized that devs really do alot of work. put urself in their shoes, and first thing i thought was "why the fk should i bother making this crap if all its gonna do is go to some ungrateful persons phone and im not even gonna get a thanks". so i regularly buy apps. not only does that make the android market that much closer to being as good and as diverse as the ios market, but u also get the LEGIT app without any risks of having some weird ass **** go wrong with ur phone in a very subtle way.....
