[SOLVED]Lost contacts after flashing LiquidSmooth - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Now I already know what I did wrong. I'll explain what happened.
I was stock rooted before and flashed LiquidSmooth RC2 4.2.2 (first ROM I ever flashed, go figure). I thought I had backed up all my data. I synced Titanium to dropbox, moved my backup to my external SD, kept a copy on my computer, and created a nandroid through TWRP as well. Now I thought I had done my research, newbie little me went and backed up through Titanium but ONLY apps and data, I didn't know I had to also back up my contacts/sms/mms through the XML otherwise they wouldn't transfer. I did a little more research and found I can restore contacts through a nandroid backup by restoring Contacts Storage, well I gave a go at that and I got an error that said "Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped working" over and over again so to fix that problem I cleared the data for that app and it stopped. However, my problem still remains that I do not have my contacts. I'm actually really mad because I was convinced I did my research and backed up my phone to a comfortable point to flash for my very first time, at least I didn't brick my phone!
MAIN QUESTION: How do I retrieve my contacts with only a nandroid back up and preferably not using the nandroid to revert to stock and then reflashing LiquidSmooth? I also have my titanium backup files.
Edit: I do know how to send a logcat and use ADB(minimally) if that helps. Also, oddly enough I retrieved my call log and my sms/mms but the only thing eluding me is my contacts which is what I want more than both of those combined

Re: Lost contacts after flashing LiquidSmooth
In the time you wrote this and have been waiting, you couldve made a nandroid of Liquidsmooth, restored your stock backup, exported the CSV of your contacts, and finally restored to LiquidSmooth and imported your contacts CSV
To avoid stuff like this, I created one google account exclusively for my contacts, separate from my personal and work emails. This way you only sync contacts between your phone and that one and all the junk stays somewhat organized haha

^^^ That, and only that.
Also. You can use My Backup root to backup mms/sms/contacts/call log. That's what I do.

is the CSV the same as the XML created through titanium?

Well it'll contain the same info, just in a different format that the Contacts app can import and export

Nope, when you restore a backup (this is the only exception) you dont need to wipe anything

Awesome thanks so much! One more question, I found an app called super backup does that work just as well or should I use my backup root? Can't I also just restore to stock rooted and use titanium to get the XML then restore back?

Uhhh....I dont use either, but i would advise you to use My Backup root as you know thats its worked for someone else with this same device
EDIT: Just saw your edit, and I guess you could, but would you be able to restore that with TB when you're back on LS? I ask because I dont use TB very much, and not for my contacts at all. But if you can, then go for it! You just wouldnt be able to restore it with any other app because its most likely, even though it would still be an XML, stored in a different order or in a different way that is specific to how TB parses it

Contacts and Titanium Backup

Ok so I rooted my phone full unlock.
So I get titanium backup (running ROM baked the latest 9.6 i think?)
Install it it says it does not see root? or busy box? it says it cannot acquire root privileges.
So I dl busy box install it and it still says it does not see root?
Am I dumb why wont this work?
Also all my contacts should be synced to my gmail right?
I tried to resync to get my contacts back and I have no contacts lol so what did I do wrong?
Thanks
What root method did you use?
The idiot proof guide.
Toasts I think it was.
Can you boot into recovery? power off phone then hold the vol down and power button. Select recovery and hit the power button. It should give you a list of options one being install zip from sd card
Yeah I can install from sdcard
Im running Baked ROM 9.6
I downloaded the titanium backup from the market though.
Is that how I am supposed to install it?
I would do a full wipe and flash the ROM again. It doesnt seem like it is giving you superuser access.
If that does not work I would try a new ROM and test for the same issue

Ok thanks
You know anything about the contacts?
Also to do a full wipe do I just go to rom manager restore my old one (the one I saved before flashing this rom) then wipe the cache and user data then flash the baked rom again?
Sorry still learning thanks for the help btw
I would do another backup just in case. You don't need to worry about restoring your old one. just do a full wipe and flash the ROM again.
The contacts should auto sync. The way it sounds you are not doing anything wrong.
If neither of your problems are resolved after the wipe. I would try to completely different ROM to see if you can duplicate the results

Your contacts should not be SOL. We will get them to work
Whenever you boot into recovery you should see an option that says wipe. select that and select wipe. Inside there you need to select wipe user data, cache, and dalvik cache. Then go ahead and flash the ROM.
I personally use Damage Control, but there are a lot of good ROM's out there just pick one that you like the best.
BakedSnack v9.6 is a good ROM but you might be a little disoriented especially with today being your first day which is FINE, trust me we have all been there. I will try to help you out as much as possible. Currently you are having a hard time with Titanium Backup, etc.
Contacts: Where do you currently have them stored, phone?

Thanks to both of you. First this is my 2nd rooting, my first phone messed up so I know some but not much.
Anyway Im having trouble with titanium backup yes.
Also no I think my contacts are gone I *thought* I synced them through my google. I clicked sync in the accounts and stuff for my contacts but when I try to import them it says they are not there lol.
If they are its not that big of a deal lol
Yes baked snack is a good ROM I didn't mean to imply that it wasnt. Sorry if it did. I have used it myself.
The reason I said try another ROM is strictly for troubleshooting.
You can log into you gmail account to check to see if your contacts are there. If they are we need to figure out why they are not syncing. If they are not then that's why they are not syncing. I hope that helps

no contacts in Gmail UGH
o well got titanium backup working!
Just checking, go to contacts hit menu and click view. make sure google is checked. it probably is but just making sure.
sign into gmail and click contacts. do you see your contacts there? you may have saved them to phone without even knowing it. you can set it to default save contacts to google instead of phone.
if your contacts are in gmail contacts and still wont sync with the phone, disable google sync for everything and make it sync with exchange activesync, it should be able to sync your contacts that way then.
Its checked but no contacts are in gmail =(

That's why your contacts won't sync unfortunately. I'm not aware of a way to restore those. Hopefully you didn't have too many.
I'm glad you got titanium backup running but would you mind if I asked how that way if someone else has that problem they know how you fixed it?

Yeah I did a complete wipe and just flashed the rom again I did it in rom manager though

Nandroid backup on one device and restore on another?

My friend bought the EVO recently so I walked him through the process of rooting and installing a new rom (DC3.2.3). He's enjoying every bit of it until I showed him the new CM6 ROM.
He uses most of the same applications I do so I had a theoretical question:
Would it be possible to perform a nandroid backup of my phone and restore it on his phone? Obviously I would have to completely wipe but can anyone think of any conflicts that may occur?

I don't have any contacts stored on my phone, they're all linked to my gmail. as far as settings and emails and what not, wouldn't the wipes take care of that so he can set his own?

help.. contacts gone

Apparently my wife decided to unsync her phone from google contacts. I flashed her phone tonight and upped the baseband/pri etc.. so no restoring I am assuming?
Anyway, when I brought her up on Miui, I looked at her contacts and nothing was there.. for some dumb reason she decided to unsync them and now she has nothing.
The question is, I did a nandroid prior, but I updated all the baseband/wimax/pri etc.. Can I view the data.img file somehow to just view/print and then she can type them all in again?
thanks a ton in advance on this stupid one
So resync them. They should still be saved to her Gmail. With MIUI you have to manually add your gmail account by going to menu > settings > personal > accounts and sync and then hit add account.
thats what I am saying, she didnt have them synced, just on her phone which was a different rom prior to miui.
thanks

There was a thread around here, on how to tear into a nanrdoid backup, and access the data.img. Figures that search is down right now, and i 'should try again in 20-30 minutes'. I think the easiest thing for you to do at this point, would be to just restore the nandroid, re-sync to google, then reinstall the rom you want. Then the contacts should be synced to gmail contacts, and you should be good to go to re sync them to the phone.
for some dumb reason she decided to unsync them

They have a restore feature that goes back 30 days but she must have deleted the stuff beyond that.. I am doing a nandroid and updating the myn rom to latest build (due to wimax/bb/pri)
Once I get them backed up and synced... then i will just restore to miui
will post update

After you restore your nandroid, export your contacts to SD to have a backup copy of them just in case something like this happens again. That way you can just import them and call it a day.
or the wife could just stop playing in settings
ok, got the contacts exported.. she has 50+ saved on phone only.. is there an easy way to convert them to google under her account?
thanks
issue resolved.. exported the phone contacts to a vcf file, then inported into her account. I am restoring miui now... I am sure the sync will just push to the phone once its done restoring.
thanks guys

I think you can upload the exported file as a .CSV to gmail. And then sync the phone with Gmail and they should all be there saved as google contacts.
edit: glad you got it figured out.

[Q] Restoring messages?

Hey,
Today at my first time, I Installed ROM and Kernal and Radio and all this essential crap.
Before I started, I went to HTC Sync software on my PC, and backed up all my files, Calender, People and thou..
But I guess I didn't notice that the SMS messages are not included on the backup list.
So now with my new ROM, when I synced back the files from the HTC Sync, it only bringed me back the Calender, People.. but not the messages,
Witch is pretty important for me, I had alot of important SMSs which I wish to restore.
When I installed the ROM I went through all the steps on the guide including the Wipe thing that I understood it is something backup?
Also I used the google's sync all the time,
Is there any option to get my SMSs from there?
Thank you very much,
Yarden.
As far as I know HTC Sync and Google Sync no backup messages.
You should have previously backup you messages with (for example) Titanium Backup.
If you haven`t Nanodroid Backup previous rom - you can`t restore you messages.
I don't love you..
oh crap. stupid ROM..
and what about the applications?
I see that they also gone,
Can they be restored?
No, apps can`t restore.
Before flash everything, I advise do backup all with TB, nanodroid backup and then flash all that you need.
These actions will help you keep all the data and, if anything, to restore everything as it was.
Good luck.

If you downloaded them through the marketplace they'll automatically download and install when you sign in with your google account on your phone.
sromer, titanium backup does not wipe messages. To backup messages use sms backup+ which is free. If you have a nandroid backup, restore that, backup messages and do your rom thing again.

SMS Backup & Restore would also be a good choice
MyBackup has successfully restored sms, mms etc. for me 10+ times now. definitely worth using. great program!
If you want constant backups I use gosms and only use it yo schedule backups every day at 6, then all is good, but I'm going to start backing up on every text I get

[Q] All contacts lost after installed Cyanogen

I've searched for a while and have found nothing. After I wiped and reset my phone for cyanogen and have recovered most things with Titanium Backup, I didn't use Nandroid, I use that's my problem? Well either way I lost all my contacts. I thought I was was synced with my 2 Google accounts and 1 Yahoo account, but I guess not. I could put them all in again, or do one of the lame Facebook events / posts for them. I don't really care, but is there a quick way I could get them back? I did some auto search thing for contacts on my phone and it found nothing, same for the SIM card. Would it be somewhere internally in the phone? Or has that been wiped?
As you didn't take nandroid its's hard to recover the if they're not synced to google. Are you sure the numbers aren't saved to your sim card. Other way would be, if you have everything backed up from your previous rom, then you have your contacts but you would have to flash stock (or whatever rom you were on) restore tb backup, download app from google play that backups your contacts, flash CM and restore your contacts with the same app

By "download app from google play that backups your contacts" do you mean tb, nandroid, or something else?
Well I'm using super backup, it's free, and I've set it to backup my messages, contacts and call logs every day. So that should do it And obviesly you can backup them right away
