Ok so I rooted my phone full unlock.
So I get titanium backup (running ROM baked the latest 9.6 i think?)
Install it it says it does not see root? or busy box? it says it cannot acquire root privileges.
So I dl busy box install it and it still says it does not see root?
Am I dumb why wont this work?
Also all my contacts should be synced to my gmail right?
I tried to resync to get my contacts back and I have no contacts lol so what did I do wrong?
Thanks
What root method did you use?
The idiot proof guide.
Toasts I think it was.
Can you boot into recovery? power off phone then hold the vol down and power button. Select recovery and hit the power button. It should give you a list of options one being install zip from sd card
Yeah I can install from sdcard
Im running Baked ROM 9.6
I downloaded the titanium backup from the market though.
Is that how I am supposed to install it?
I would do a full wipe and flash the ROM again. It doesnt seem like it is giving you superuser access.
If that does not work I would try a new ROM and test for the same issue

Ok thanks
You know anything about the contacts?
Also to do a full wipe do I just go to rom manager restore my old one (the one I saved before flashing this rom) then wipe the cache and user data then flash the baked rom again?
Sorry still learning thanks for the help btw
I would do another backup just in case. You don't need to worry about restoring your old one. just do a full wipe and flash the ROM again.
The contacts should auto sync. The way it sounds you are not doing anything wrong.
If neither of your problems are resolved after the wipe. I would try to completely different ROM to see if you can duplicate the results

Your contacts should not be SOL. We will get them to work
Whenever you boot into recovery you should see an option that says wipe. select that and select wipe. Inside there you need to select wipe user data, cache, and dalvik cache. Then go ahead and flash the ROM.
I personally use Damage Control, but there are a lot of good ROM's out there just pick one that you like the best.
BakedSnack v9.6 is a good ROM but you might be a little disoriented especially with today being your first day which is FINE, trust me we have all been there. I will try to help you out as much as possible. Currently you are having a hard time with Titanium Backup, etc.
Contacts: Where do you currently have them stored, phone?

Thanks to both of you. First this is my 2nd rooting, my first phone messed up so I know some but not much.
Anyway Im having trouble with titanium backup yes.
Also no I think my contacts are gone I *thought* I synced them through my google. I clicked sync in the accounts and stuff for my contacts but when I try to import them it says they are not there lol.
If they are its not that big of a deal lol
Yes baked snack is a good ROM I didn't mean to imply that it wasnt. Sorry if it did. I have used it myself.
The reason I said try another ROM is strictly for troubleshooting.
You can log into you gmail account to check to see if your contacts are there. If they are we need to figure out why they are not syncing. If they are not then that's why they are not syncing. I hope that helps

no contacts in Gmail UGH
o well got titanium backup working!
Just checking, go to contacts hit menu and click view. make sure google is checked. it probably is but just making sure.
sign into gmail and click contacts. do you see your contacts there? you may have saved them to phone without even knowing it. you can set it to default save contacts to google instead of phone.
if your contacts are in gmail contacts and still wont sync with the phone, disable google sync for everything and make it sync with exchange activesync, it should be able to sync your contacts that way then.
Its checked but no contacts are in gmail =(

That's why your contacts won't sync unfortunately. I'm not aware of a way to restore those. Hopefully you didn't have too many.
I'm glad you got titanium backup running but would you mind if I asked how that way if someone else has that problem they know how you fixed it?

Yeah I did a complete wipe and just flashed the rom again I did it in rom manager though
I just updated to the leaked Froyo Rom. Before doing so, I backed up using Titanium. Then, once the Rom was installed, I did a restore of "all applications and system settings." But for some reason, all my homescreen settings did not return. For example, on one Homescreen, I had the Touchdown Calendar widget, which has now been replaced by the HTC mail widget.
What happened to my homescreens and all the widgets I had arranged on them? Argh, this is exactly what I didn't want to happen!!!!!
Edit: And it didn't restore any of my SMS messages either!!!! Where is everything?
Edit #2: Also, all of my Stock data, Facebook setup, Twitter setup is all empty. I thought this was all supposed to restore with Titanium. I used "backup all apps and system data" before moving to this ROM.
not a good idea to restore data if you were coming from any 2.1 rom

There is nothing wrong with Titanium, unless you want to argue that it should be programmed with even more features than it already has to prevent you from being able to do what you did. You restored settings and configurations that were from a different system version, and things didn't work right -- no surprise there.
I don't know what you can do about your SMS backups (I have never saved any), but as for the rest you probably need to bite the bullet. Wipe, re-flash the ROM, then set everything up again from scratch and if you are going restore old stuff with TI, stick to apps this time.
Good luck!
Worked great for me...but I only do apps and make sure to unchecked what I don't want

better to restore one by one, apps should restore fine, but accounts and such that are os specific surely wont work

If I've already lost the data/setup settings, why would I Wipe, re-flash, and set up everything from scratch. It's not like 2.2 is crashing after I did the Titanium restore, I'm just missing my SMSes and my home screen arrangement.

For future reference, 'SMS Backup & Restore' is a much better option for backing up your SMS messages. Never rely on Titanium Backup for SMS backups.

I used SMS backup and restore, but for 2nd time since I've had it, I didn't realize the scheduled backups just stopped occurring for no reason. So I lost my SMSes from the past couple weeks. Must be a bug in the program.
use launcherpro home app. it has an option to backup and restore all your icons and homescreen settings (minus widgets due to system limitations)
anytime im wiping and installing, i do a couple things
1. backup apps thru titanium then verify backed up apps
2. backup homescreen and settings thru launcher pro
3. drocap2 all my home screens so i can resetup my widgets
4. nandroid
all 4 items happen everytime, I have little worry about ever losing my settings.

Did you do a nandroid backup like you should do before every single wipe of your phone? No?
Well if you did then you would be able to go into ClockworkMod Recovery -> nandroid -> advanced recovery -> restore data. When you reboot the phone EVERYTHING will be exactly just like you left it on your previous 2.1 installation. I have done this and have not had one single problem. Not one single thing is in a different place then it was when I was using 2.1. All my text messages, call logs, home screen widgets, ect. are there.

I did use Nandroid, but I want to move to 2.2. Is there any way to move to 2.2 without losing the system data? If the answer is "no," I don't understand. What happens when HTC releases the official version, do they expect people to delete all their apps, homescreens, etc every time an update is released?

i used titanium backup for apps+system settings going from skyraider 1.9 to 2.0 and i ran into very small problems like getting my wallpaper to load and being able to restore my adw settings. As far as i can see so far no big deal
i used mybackup pro to back up apps+data then my home screens, sms, dictionary and a few other things. pretty much had my phone exactly the way it was when i had it running 2.1
he's not totally alone
Some slack should be cut for the OP as he's not alone in the widget issue. I have used TB for ages now perfectly ok to swap apps and info from my 2 x10's. But this last time I have ended up with a home screen that has "missing" widgets. The screen space is allocated so I can't replace them but the widget doesn't show or work. I have put this down to the 2 phones not have.g the same home screen layout, but is bloody annoying as now I can't reclaim this space!!
I did a lot of reading before I did this to be sure I wouldn't lose anything. Here's the step by step for others, since I was unable to find it all in one place. This is for the MT4G/Glacier, no idea if the process is similar on other phones. You should probably still read, but I couldn't find any of this all in one place:
If you flash, here's what you need:
- Rooted phone (if you need to root, search for the gfree method, it's the easiest)
- ROM Manager from the Market. Get the premium version.
- TitaniumBackup from the Market.
- Sync turned on for your contacts and calendars in your google account.
1. Go into TitaniumBackup, set the option to store the settings on the SDCard. Go into Backup/Restore, hit menu, and run the batch to do a full backup of system and user apps/data.
2. Go into ROM Manager. At the top, click the option to install ClockworkRecovery. Make sure it installs version 3.0.0.5. Then click the option to reboot into recovery mode. In recovery, make a ROM backup of your existing ROM. It will store on the SD card. Reboot back into the OS.
3. Go back into ROM Manager, scroll down to Download ROM's. You should see CM7 Nightlies in there. Download the latest build. It will ask you if you want to also download the GAPPS package, grab that also. When it's done, it will ask you what you want to do... just cancel. Go to reboot in recovery mode.
4. In recovery:
- Wipe/Factory Reset
- Clear cache partition
- Advanced -> clear Dalvik cache
- On main screen, install ZIP from SD
- Navigate to sdcard->clockworkmod->downloads->teamdouche and select the CM7 zip for your phone that was downloaded
- When that is done, install another zip from sd, go into the goo.inside.me directory and install GAPPS zip
- Reboot phone from main menu
5. Enter your gmail creds that you used for your primary account from before
6. Cancel the additional downloads thing when it pops up, this will pop up again later after you enable wireless
7. Go into ROM Manager, Select the Fix Permissions option, reboot (wifi won't work unless you do this)
8. Enable wifi and join to your network
9. Eventually you will get the popup again. Select the stuff that you want installed.
It will pull down all of your apps from the market and install them. If you want to restore user data for the apps, you can go into titanium and click on the app, and restore it with the data. Don't do this until it's done updating from the market. Do NOT restore system level stuff. You will cause problems if you restore system level stuff from 2.2 or earlier on 2.3.x.
You should also install SetCPU from the market, set to start on boot, set conservative mode, and create a screen off profile that limits to 368mhz/conservative. In advanced, leave the defaults, except change the cpu up threshold to 75, and the scaling percent to 11 or 12. Massive battery improvements. You can overclock with this also, mine is only overclocked to around 1100mhz. Some people are running 1800mhz. I heard smartass mode instead of conservative is also good, but haven't tried it.
Keep in mind that if you have an HTC phone with the Sense Framework, you won't have that anymore. So if you liked the Sense dialer (which I did), you can't get it. The stock dialer is functional, but not the best. DialerOne and Dialer2 look the most interesting, but they still aren't as good. If you have CSipSimple installed, remove it. CM7 has SIP built into it, and CSipSimple confuses the phone when trying to make calls. If you liked the Sense clock widget, you can get a replacement, search for Beautiful Widgets on the market. The built in camera app is not Sense either, but does all the same things. The Gallery is awesome, best gallery I've ever seen (stacks that you can pull apart and flip through, very cool).
If GPS doesn't work, download GPS Status from the market and use it to clear the A-GPS data and cache. It's the only app that can do it. It's free.
Also, if you want to go back to your previous ROM, you can flash back with the ROM Manager backup that you made. The only thing is, you'll have to downgrade the clockwork recovery bootloader to 2.5.1.2 first. You can do this by flashing a zip from your SD card. The zip is available somewhere on these forums. I don't have a link, but you can find it by searching a bit. The 3.0.0.5 version cannot flash a Froyo or earlier ROM for some reason. I'm not going back, so I haven't done this.
My TitaniumBackup realized somehow that I installed fresh, and it automatically restored my apps and data. It did NOT on my friend's phone. But, he has the free version and I have the paid one. If it doesn't restore your app settings, you can manually go in and do it. One thing that I've never been able to restore is Good corporate email. It restores, but it won't send or receive. If anyone has ideas on this, post them.
Note that I flashed with build 35, and it's been rock solid. Your mileage may vary. If you already have the software noted above, the whole process only takes about 5-10 mins.
Edit: Recovery 3.0.0.6 was released, and works with 2.2 and 2.3. So you wouldn't have to downgrade the recovery to go back a version. As of this edit, you can grab it here if it's not showing up in ROM Manager yet: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952433
Something to add... if you are using ADW or LPP do a backup if those also. I find that if you install it fresh from the market and not TB then press restore settings in their preferences it will load all the custom icons and custom dock. It saves alot of time. Nice writup for the peeps that need the pointers for a fresh and fast install of a nightly
FYI, Titanium backup works great at restoring apps. I would be weary of restoring data between android versions however, because some of the data will be of a different type and could cause lots of issues. Thats the reason for the full data wipe before flashing in the first place.

I thought that was mostly because of system. The apps themselves still store their data in sqlite databases, and their schema should not change between versions of the actual OS. I might be wrong.
app data is fine, system data is what causes issues. I should have been more specific.

The only system stuff I install is the accounts back up, email data, wifi access points, and account and sync settings. I usually dont have a problem installing this kind of stuff. I had a few problems in the past restoring some system stuff and it made things not work, a lot of force closes. etc.. I would open up say the sound settings in settings and it would never open it would fc 100% of the time. You know I bet a lot of the issues people have with stuff not working when other's have no problems are due to bad restores. I have not once in any of the builds(since 26 when I started flashing CM 7) had an issue with wifi or gps(knock on wood)

Ok so I just barely rooted and flashed cm7 #40 to my glacier. Everthing is great. I love the rom. I just need help on 2 things. First, how do I get my contacts to sync back to my phone? I had done a factory reset twice before and they always synced back after I logged in my gmail account but not this time. I did sync my gmail before rooting and flashing and I also backed everything up with titanium backup but nothing. Second, when I first flashed the cm7 #40 rom I liked how when I locked the screen it shut off like if you were turning off a tv. I don't know what I did that it does not do it anymore. If anyone knows hows to fix my 2 problems I greatly appriciate it. Thanx.
EDIT: I figured out how to get the screen off animation back but I still have problems getting my contacts to push back to my phone. If anyone knows how to get them to sync it would be helpful.
EDIT#2: Figured out how to get contacts back. Was not able to sync them but just went to the tmo website, wrote them down and re-added them to my phone.

As with all programs such as the toolkit and playing with system files Mike the developer of the program recommends a full backup before you start playing - just in case. (So do I, always) That way you don't lose your setup that you have worked on so hard...
The camera mods do not wipe or affect the phone in any way, at least not when I applied them, but things can go wrong, so that's why you back up

Nandroid backup is included in the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit so use that. Everything is backed up by that - you can even get really clever and extract sms mms etc. from the nandroid (for example here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1370349) if that is what you mean by messages. Surely your emails will be on your email server, contacts in your google account as extra backup even though the nandroid will contain them? Unless you do something really radical, like fully wipe the SOC, partition etc doesn't enter into it...

Unless you do something really radical, like fully wipe the SOC, partition etc doesn't enter into it...

hi, i unlocked my phone, but... where i can find what it was of my interests? camera enhancements. Where i can find it, in the toolkit 7.4?
ok, it was on mods section of the toolkit
Now I already know what I did wrong. I'll explain what happened.
I was stock rooted before and flashed LiquidSmooth RC2 4.2.2 (first ROM I ever flashed, go figure). I thought I had backed up all my data. I synced Titanium to dropbox, moved my backup to my external SD, kept a copy on my computer, and created a nandroid through TWRP as well. Now I thought I had done my research, newbie little me went and backed up through Titanium but ONLY apps and data, I didn't know I had to also back up my contacts/sms/mms through the XML otherwise they wouldn't transfer. I did a little more research and found I can restore contacts through a nandroid backup by restoring Contacts Storage, well I gave a go at that and I got an error that said "Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped working" over and over again so to fix that problem I cleared the data for that app and it stopped. However, my problem still remains that I do not have my contacts. I'm actually really mad because I was convinced I did my research and backed up my phone to a comfortable point to flash for my very first time, at least I didn't brick my phone!
MAIN QUESTION: How do I retrieve my contacts with only a nandroid back up and preferably not using the nandroid to revert to stock and then reflashing LiquidSmooth? I also have my titanium backup files.
Edit: I do know how to send a logcat and use ADB(minimally) if that helps. Also, oddly enough I retrieved my call log and my sms/mms but the only thing eluding me is my contacts which is what I want more than both of those combined
Re: Lost contacts after flashing LiquidSmooth
In the time you wrote this and have been waiting, you couldve made a nandroid of Liquidsmooth, restored your stock backup, exported the CSV of your contacts, and finally restored to LiquidSmooth and imported your contacts CSV
To avoid stuff like this, I created one google account exclusively for my contacts, separate from my personal and work emails. This way you only sync contacts between your phone and that one and all the junk stays somewhat organized haha

^^^ That, and only that.
Also. You can use My Backup root to backup mms/sms/contacts/call log. That's what I do.

Well it'll contain the same info, just in a different format that the Contacts app can import and export

Nope, when you restore a backup (this is the only exception) you dont need to wipe anything

Awesome thanks so much! One more question, I found an app called super backup does that work just as well or should I use my backup root? Can't I also just restore to stock rooted and use titanium to get the XML then restore back?

Uhhh....I dont use either, but i would advise you to use My Backup root as you know thats its worked for someone else with this same device
EDIT: Just saw your edit, and I guess you could, but would you be able to restore that with TB when you're back on LS? I ask because I dont use TB very much, and not for my contacts at all. But if you can, then go for it! You just wouldnt be able to restore it with any other app because its most likely, even though it would still be an XML, stored in a different order or in a different way that is specific to how TB parses it
