Ok so I rooted my phone full unlock.
So I get titanium backup (running ROM baked the latest 9.6 i think?)
Install it it says it does not see root? or busy box? it says it cannot acquire root privileges.
So I dl busy box install it and it still says it does not see root?
Am I dumb why wont this work?
Also all my contacts should be synced to my gmail right?
I tried to resync to get my contacts back and I have no contacts lol so what did I do wrong?
Thanks
What root method did you use?
The idiot proof guide.
Toasts I think it was.
Can you boot into recovery? power off phone then hold the vol down and power button. Select recovery and hit the power button. It should give you a list of options one being install zip from sd card
Yeah I can install from sdcard
Im running Baked ROM 9.6
I downloaded the titanium backup from the market though.
Is that how I am supposed to install it?
I would do a full wipe and flash the ROM again. It doesnt seem like it is giving you superuser access.
If that does not work I would try a new ROM and test for the same issue

Ok thanks
You know anything about the contacts?
Also to do a full wipe do I just go to rom manager restore my old one (the one I saved before flashing this rom) then wipe the cache and user data then flash the baked rom again?
Sorry still learning thanks for the help btw
I would do another backup just in case. You don't need to worry about restoring your old one. just do a full wipe and flash the ROM again.
The contacts should auto sync. The way it sounds you are not doing anything wrong.
If neither of your problems are resolved after the wipe. I would try to completely different ROM to see if you can duplicate the results

Your contacts should not be SOL. We will get them to work
Whenever you boot into recovery you should see an option that says wipe. select that and select wipe. Inside there you need to select wipe user data, cache, and dalvik cache. Then go ahead and flash the ROM.
I personally use Damage Control, but there are a lot of good ROM's out there just pick one that you like the best.
BakedSnack v9.6 is a good ROM but you might be a little disoriented especially with today being your first day which is FINE, trust me we have all been there. I will try to help you out as much as possible. Currently you are having a hard time with Titanium Backup, etc.
Contacts: Where do you currently have them stored, phone?

Thanks to both of you. First this is my 2nd rooting, my first phone messed up so I know some but not much.
Anyway Im having trouble with titanium backup yes.
Also no I think my contacts are gone I *thought* I synced them through my google. I clicked sync in the accounts and stuff for my contacts but when I try to import them it says they are not there lol.
If they are its not that big of a deal lol
Yes baked snack is a good ROM I didn't mean to imply that it wasnt. Sorry if it did. I have used it myself.
The reason I said try another ROM is strictly for troubleshooting.
You can log into you gmail account to check to see if your contacts are there. If they are we need to figure out why they are not syncing. If they are not then that's why they are not syncing. I hope that helps

no contacts in Gmail UGH
o well got titanium backup working!
Just checking, go to contacts hit menu and click view. make sure google is checked. it probably is but just making sure.
sign into gmail and click contacts. do you see your contacts there? you may have saved them to phone without even knowing it. you can set it to default save contacts to google instead of phone.
if your contacts are in gmail contacts and still wont sync with the phone, disable google sync for everything and make it sync with exchange activesync, it should be able to sync your contacts that way then.
Its checked but no contacts are in gmail =(

That's why your contacts won't sync unfortunately. I'm not aware of a way to restore those. Hopefully you didn't have too many.
I'm glad you got titanium backup running but would you mind if I asked how that way if someone else has that problem they know how you fixed it?

Yeah I did a complete wipe and just flashed the rom again I did it in rom manager though

My friend bought the EVO recently so I walked him through the process of rooting and installing a new rom (DC3.2.3). He's enjoying every bit of it until I showed him the new CM6 ROM.
He uses most of the same applications I do so I had a theoretical question:
Would it be possible to perform a nandroid backup of my phone and restore it on his phone? Obviously I would have to completely wipe but can anyone think of any conflicts that may occur?

I don't have any contacts stored on my phone, they're all linked to my gmail. as far as settings and emails and what not, wouldn't the wipes take care of that so he can set his own?

Ok, so I'm new to the Evo and I rooted my phone. I still don't know all about all the terms. My problem is is that I flashed CyanogenMod with Rom Manager and I had a boot loop. I looked online and I saw that a full wipe would do the trick. So I did a full wipe and yay! It works! Except... no data. No contacts no nothing. No preferences. I have already reflashed the ROM and it still does nothing. How do I get my data back? HELP!!

Yes, I did. But I'm afraid If i restore it I'll lose the mod.
Stupid question but I've never done ROM MANAGER but does it do gapps separetely? Like are you missing the key Google function
Edit; think I read that wrong. Restore, start anew. No access to a pc?

like voice search or something?

woah woah wait, so what do I do?
Sorry, you mean data like connection? Guess I thought you meant data like ... gapps.
You have the market and such, right?
Not sure how you'd lose data "data" so I just assumed ... like I said, never used ROM Manager so not familiar. You mean cell data, right?
Edit: and restoring is safe and easy .. for situations just lime this. You don't really "lose" the mod ... you just revert back and then reflash the Rom / mod as normal.

Like I said, contacts and no market, no voice search, none of my user preferences before I flashed the ROM.
Well, I'm drunk , but sounds lime gapps. Gapps are NOT included with aosp ROMS which is what ya got. Look in ROM Manager ... Google apps listed? Sounds like the case.
SWYPED from my SUPASONIC
Then you'd go through and do it again, redownload apps with titanium backup or such, restore contacts with Google sync .... etc. Like i said, never used, but can't see how it'd be included in rom manager if not elsewhere so there must be an option ... ill link gapps in seconds.....
SWYPED from my SUPASONIC
Sorry, can you please explain what you're saying? I don't get any of these terms.
Ok, for whatever reason you want to flash CM6, which is here;
http://goo-inside.me/cm/supersonic/
Then, you'd want to "optionally" install the "gapps" (Google proprietary applications) which include Gmail, Talk, Market etc etc etc etc etc all the jazz you need.
Sounds like you don't have the "gapps" as they call em, here;
http://goo-inside.me/gapps/
Like I said, I have NEVER used ROM Manager to download ROMs ... I get em at the computer and transfer them.
Thus, if you could this; you'd download both "latest" CM6 and GApps and flash them both. AFTER you wipe, AND AFTER YOU HAVE MADE A BACKUP.
That sounds like the issue.
Once again, not sure how this is handled with ROM Manager ... gotta figure they have it set up for easy use.
edit: honestly hope that helps, I"m drunk ... but gapps 11/14 is golden.
You should be good.
I know this **** can be sort of "intimidating." Depending on how you want to use the word. It's not the end of the world, that's why backups are SERIOUSLY AND HONESTLY IMPORTANT.
Thanks, but I still don't get it. ARGH! Only if they had TeamViewer on Android lol.
Which gapp should I use
Ok, I mean, this will be a waste of a post ... but have you NEVER seen some sort of GOOGLE APPS listed in ROM Mangager?
ROM Manager is NOT necessary ...
If you have a computer, download these files and place them on the "ROOT" of the SD Card ... That's the BASE of the SD CARD - NO FOLDERS.
Can you do this?
If you used Titanium Backup before switching to CyanogenMod, you could have copied over your user-installed (downloaded) apps, preferences, etc. However, you didn't, so you're S.O.L. Your only choice now is to download the gapps package, flash it from recovery, and then you'll have the Market and other proprietary Google applications. Then you can start reinstalling your apps manually, and changing all your settings.
Trust me, Titanium Backup Pro is worth every penny.
Shoot for 11/14 (of 2010 - obviously ) for the gapps.
If you can download them with your phone and bump to your SD card .... that's good too.
Don't make it harder than it has to be! hah and here I am, drunk, saying that ... we can do this, we can get this done in 5 minutes.
Basically, SENSE based ROMs have all the jazz included ... AOSP (Android Open Source Project) comes with GApps separate ... legal ****. It's simple. You wipe and flash as normal, and after flashing the ROM (CM6 - .1.1 or .1.2) you then flash the "Google Apps." You NEED the Google Apps ... that's the icing on the cake. Without that .... I mean, dunno how else to say it, but you need it.
Ok, so instead of installing all the apps and stuff, should I just restore my backup and then buy Titanium Backup pro?
Wait, actually, i have a backup of my phone BEFORE I downloaded CyanogenMod

This is what they say. Word of warning. Backing up user data can be "troublesome." But apps themselves and such, yes - this!
It's not "necessary," but something you might be interested in.
BUT SHOULD I RESTORE MY OLD ONE? WILL IT BE EASIER
Hello All,
Background info:
Cyanogenmod 7 , Nightly #17, 1/27/11 is what I currently have
Most Updated Titanium Backup
Tried this on Build #18 and #20.
Basically after I install the 18 or 20 I get no errors. I then go to Titanium Back up and restore my apps. (Only apps , no system data )
Is anyone else having this issue or is this all on my end and if so i'll be investigating further.
THanks!
Kyle
EDIT: I Have forgot to mention that yes I did do a Back Up before i installed it. I have done this everyday but until 18 and 20 this is arose >.<

Well I'm saying on the titanium backup, make sure to check the 4th option to back system data and apps. You can always check you SD card to make sure its there. I do the same and able to keep my data, also when you flash a build you don't have to wipe the data and cache, because it just updates since its technically an update.

And when you restore, you run the backup and restore all apps and data? And what data is missing, like the adw launcher settings, ect?
among other things like my twitter login and facebook and my vlc ****, though my ADW ex is still there which seems odd
i also cant open my market :/
additionally i get a error saying Google talk authentication failed...
Swype wont restore itself anymore, some apps like FB did restore the data this time, VLC did not, twitter didnt, my market is borked.
Not complaining, just seeing if anyone else has had issues?
Well wow, I don't know what to say. I would say try to re-flash your google gaps, and flash the newest set. I had some issues with older versions. I will keep trying to look into it.

yup i flashed what was in the clockwork mod file just now, 1/15/11, ill use this set to see what happens. It seems like my phone isnt linking to google since my icons are grayed out instead of color in the notifications bar
Yea, it doesn't seem like it is linking. But let me know what happens.

kk, installing now, ill let you know ^_^
no good, "Google Talk Authentication failed" App market closes on opening, my power widgets i notcied reset to stock CM7
This is all bad but i CANT complain
ima revert back to my old build i think for #17 i did a back up of it just in case 20 didnt work
That really sucks man. I know it isn't the google apps because I'm using the same package. The last thing I can think of [that worked for me] is try to go back to build 20, use titanium backup to restore your apps, JUST the apps, no data, restore. It should work. Then backup all your apps and data and backup your rom.
I did a lot of reading before I did this to be sure I wouldn't lose anything. Here's the step by step for others, since I was unable to find it all in one place. This is for the MT4G/Glacier, no idea if the process is similar on other phones. You should probably still read, but I couldn't find any of this all in one place:
If you flash, here's what you need:
- Rooted phone (if you need to root, search for the gfree method, it's the easiest)
- ROM Manager from the Market. Get the premium version.
- TitaniumBackup from the Market.
- Sync turned on for your contacts and calendars in your google account.
1. Go into TitaniumBackup, set the option to store the settings on the SDCard. Go into Backup/Restore, hit menu, and run the batch to do a full backup of system and user apps/data.
2. Go into ROM Manager. At the top, click the option to install ClockworkRecovery. Make sure it installs version 3.0.0.5. Then click the option to reboot into recovery mode. In recovery, make a ROM backup of your existing ROM. It will store on the SD card. Reboot back into the OS.
3. Go back into ROM Manager, scroll down to Download ROM's. You should see CM7 Nightlies in there. Download the latest build. It will ask you if you want to also download the GAPPS package, grab that also. When it's done, it will ask you what you want to do... just cancel. Go to reboot in recovery mode.
4. In recovery:
- Wipe/Factory Reset
- Clear cache partition
- Advanced -> clear Dalvik cache
- On main screen, install ZIP from SD
- Navigate to sdcard->clockworkmod->downloads->teamdouche and select the CM7 zip for your phone that was downloaded
- When that is done, install another zip from sd, go into the goo.inside.me directory and install GAPPS zip
- Reboot phone from main menu
5. Enter your gmail creds that you used for your primary account from before
6. Cancel the additional downloads thing when it pops up, this will pop up again later after you enable wireless
7. Go into ROM Manager, Select the Fix Permissions option, reboot (wifi won't work unless you do this)
8. Enable wifi and join to your network
9. Eventually you will get the popup again. Select the stuff that you want installed.
It will pull down all of your apps from the market and install them. If you want to restore user data for the apps, you can go into titanium and click on the app, and restore it with the data. Don't do this until it's done updating from the market. Do NOT restore system level stuff. You will cause problems if you restore system level stuff from 2.2 or earlier on 2.3.x.
You should also install SetCPU from the market, set to start on boot, set conservative mode, and create a screen off profile that limits to 368mhz/conservative. In advanced, leave the defaults, except change the cpu up threshold to 75, and the scaling percent to 11 or 12. Massive battery improvements. You can overclock with this also, mine is only overclocked to around 1100mhz. Some people are running 1800mhz. I heard smartass mode instead of conservative is also good, but haven't tried it.
Keep in mind that if you have an HTC phone with the Sense Framework, you won't have that anymore. So if you liked the Sense dialer (which I did), you can't get it. The stock dialer is functional, but not the best. DialerOne and Dialer2 look the most interesting, but they still aren't as good. If you have CSipSimple installed, remove it. CM7 has SIP built into it, and CSipSimple confuses the phone when trying to make calls. If you liked the Sense clock widget, you can get a replacement, search for Beautiful Widgets on the market. The built in camera app is not Sense either, but does all the same things. The Gallery is awesome, best gallery I've ever seen (stacks that you can pull apart and flip through, very cool).
If GPS doesn't work, download GPS Status from the market and use it to clear the A-GPS data and cache. It's the only app that can do it. It's free.
Also, if you want to go back to your previous ROM, you can flash back with the ROM Manager backup that you made. The only thing is, you'll have to downgrade the clockwork recovery bootloader to 2.5.1.2 first. You can do this by flashing a zip from your SD card. The zip is available somewhere on these forums. I don't have a link, but you can find it by searching a bit. The 3.0.0.5 version cannot flash a Froyo or earlier ROM for some reason. I'm not going back, so I haven't done this.
My TitaniumBackup realized somehow that I installed fresh, and it automatically restored my apps and data. It did NOT on my friend's phone. But, he has the free version and I have the paid one. If it doesn't restore your app settings, you can manually go in and do it. One thing that I've never been able to restore is Good corporate email. It restores, but it won't send or receive. If anyone has ideas on this, post them.
Note that I flashed with build 35, and it's been rock solid. Your mileage may vary. If you already have the software noted above, the whole process only takes about 5-10 mins.
Edit: Recovery 3.0.0.6 was released, and works with 2.2 and 2.3. So you wouldn't have to downgrade the recovery to go back a version. As of this edit, you can grab it here if it's not showing up in ROM Manager yet: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952433
Something to add... if you are using ADW or LPP do a backup if those also. I find that if you install it fresh from the market and not TB then press restore settings in their preferences it will load all the custom icons and custom dock. It saves alot of time. Nice writup for the peeps that need the pointers for a fresh and fast install of a nightly
FYI, Titanium backup works great at restoring apps. I would be weary of restoring data between android versions however, because some of the data will be of a different type and could cause lots of issues. Thats the reason for the full data wipe before flashing in the first place.

I thought that was mostly because of system. The apps themselves still store their data in sqlite databases, and their schema should not change between versions of the actual OS. I might be wrong.
app data is fine, system data is what causes issues. I should have been more specific.

The only system stuff I install is the accounts back up, email data, wifi access points, and account and sync settings. I usually dont have a problem installing this kind of stuff. I had a few problems in the past restoring some system stuff and it made things not work, a lot of force closes. etc.. I would open up say the sound settings in settings and it would never open it would fc 100% of the time. You know I bet a lot of the issues people have with stuff not working when other's have no problems are due to bad restores. I have not once in any of the builds(since 26 when I started flashing CM 7) had an issue with wifi or gps(knock on wood)

Ok so I just barely rooted and flashed cm7 #40 to my glacier. Everthing is great. I love the rom. I just need help on 2 things. First, how do I get my contacts to sync back to my phone? I had done a factory reset twice before and they always synced back after I logged in my gmail account but not this time. I did sync my gmail before rooting and flashing and I also backed everything up with titanium backup but nothing. Second, when I first flashed the cm7 #40 rom I liked how when I locked the screen it shut off like if you were turning off a tv. I don't know what I did that it does not do it anymore. If anyone knows hows to fix my 2 problems I greatly appriciate it. Thanx.
EDIT: I figured out how to get the screen off animation back but I still have problems getting my contacts to push back to my phone. If anyone knows how to get them to sync it would be helpful.
EDIT#2: Figured out how to get contacts back. Was not able to sync them but just went to the tmo website, wrote them down and re-added them to my phone.

I'm curious if there's a way to batch-restore data only in Titanium Backup? Only way I can see is to do it app by app.
Likewise, any way to batch-backup data only?
I was flashing a new ROM to my Sprint S3 when I accidentally wiped internal storage (where I had my backup and my CM). Now I have no OS and no recovery files on my phone. I backed everything up on TiBu and moved the files to my laptop just in case, but I cant figure out how to access them from TWRP. Any ideas? Im trying not to panick because I know you guys can fix pretty much anything, but I need my phone for work in the morning. Thanks in advance.

You need to go into advanced settings in TWRP and sideload a rom, or if you have a sdcard reader put it in your pc and load a rom onto it.
Thank you!

:good: Worked perfectly and was very painless. Thanks for coming through for me. Any recommendations on a kernel to go along with CM10.2.1 (Stable)?
I was thinking of going with leankernel
I don't have a kernel recommendation, sorry. I actually only use TW roms.

Honestly, it all depends on your personal phone. My friends seem to work better with a 3rd party kernel while mine only works well with the stock CM one or Touchwiz one.

One more problem: I had everything backed-up on TiBu, but that includes bloatware that I am trying to get rid of. How can i just import contacts, without anything else?
I'm not sure, all my contacts are saved in Google.

For future reference, how does one accomplish this?
Anybody have any other ideas? I tried syncing but Facebook has more numbers than any of my other networks and it doesnt seem to sync, even after reboot.

Did you try going into settings, then adding facebook as an account? I always use google to auto sync contacts it makes things easier.

I did. I have rebooted and resynced, still nothing. It even has a little check mark next to it, so it thinks its synced. Could it have something to do with my fb security settings?
How do I autosync my google account and contacts?
Sorry for the tidal wave of questions. You guys (and gals?) have been really great!
