[Q] All contacts lost after installed Cyanogen - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I've searched for a while and have found nothing. After I wiped and reset my phone for cyanogen and have recovered most things with Titanium Backup, I didn't use Nandroid, I use that's my problem? Well either way I lost all my contacts. I thought I was was synced with my 2 Google accounts and 1 Yahoo account, but I guess not. I could put them all in again, or do one of the lame Facebook events / posts for them. I don't really care, but is there a quick way I could get them back? I did some auto search thing for contacts on my phone and it found nothing, same for the SIM card. Would it be somewhere internally in the phone? Or has that been wiped?

As you didn't take nandroid its's hard to recover the if they're not synced to google. Are you sure the numbers aren't saved to your sim card. Other way would be, if you have everything backed up from your previous rom, then you have your contacts but you would have to flash stock (or whatever rom you were on) restore tb backup, download app from google play that backups your contacts, flash CM and restore your contacts with the same app

By "download app from google play that backups your contacts" do you mean tb, nandroid, or something else?

Well I'm using super backup, it's free, and I've set it to backup my messages, contacts and call logs every day. So that should do it And obviesly you can backup them right away

Quick question my Geniuses

I addicted to looking at and trying out new roms but its so annoying that i have to download everything back and all my text are wiped bla bla i think some people might understand.
anyway i can install new themes but when its done loading that all my apps and everything is still the way i left it?
thanks in advance
First of, download and install Titanium Backup or Titanium Backup Pro. With it, you can backup all of your apps and their data. After doing that, go into recovery and make a nandroid backup of your current set up. Doing so will put your device back like it was just in case you don't like the new rom, theme or whatever it is you plan to flash. Afterwards and while in recovery, wipe everything except the SD card then flash your new rom. None of your previous apps should be installed.

you beat me to it, lol
Flattering us won't help.
And well to get your apps back, backup with titanium, restore apps and data, not system settings. And for you second question, it depends on what the app themes, you can always re-do the icon.
And jeeze, I'm the last one in the 7:08, 7:09, 7:10 time reply train.
Also, I just learned about backing up adw desktop settings ...restores all folder and apps where they were when you backed up. Super convienent...use after restoring from titanium backup.
ok so i just got to install titanium backup (which i have already but have never used it) and backup my apps and data as is (does this include my text messages? )
and the difference between titanium and Nandroid backup is the titanium backs up my apps and nan backup takes me back to my last backup was just incase the current rom i installed is not to my liking or faulty? right?
Correct me if im wrong, i can take it
tell you guys the truth i just care about my text's messages being erased. i don't mind installing the apps again.
Download and install SMS backup+ from the market, it's free. Once you set it up (easy) it will back up all your SMS and MMS to your Gmail account. When you load a new rom you can restore all your txts as well. You can set it to back up automatically or manually, your choice. To restore just start the app nd click restore, boom, all sms are loaded back up.
Thanks alot guys i really do appreciate it.
Complimentary BJ's to all
Mybackup pro will do that call logs text msgs and mms

i got a new rom and clicked restore and it restored "0"
and i did back it up all 139 texts.
Did you check your gmail account? It should show all your texts saved to a folder. If it didn't, then you never properly backed them up.
Once you install the new rom, be sure you signed back into your account in the backup app.

[Q] Restoring messages?

Hey,
Today at my first time, I Installed ROM and Kernal and Radio and all this essential crap.
Before I started, I went to HTC Sync software on my PC, and backed up all my files, Calender, People and thou..
But I guess I didn't notice that the SMS messages are not included on the backup list.
So now with my new ROM, when I synced back the files from the HTC Sync, it only bringed me back the Calender, People.. but not the messages,
Witch is pretty important for me, I had alot of important SMSs which I wish to restore.
When I installed the ROM I went through all the steps on the guide including the Wipe thing that I understood it is something backup?
Also I used the google's sync all the time,
Is there any option to get my SMSs from there?
Thank you very much,
Yarden.
As far as I know HTC Sync and Google Sync no backup messages.
You should have previously backup you messages with (for example) Titanium Backup.
If you haven`t Nanodroid Backup previous rom - you can`t restore you messages.
I don't love you..
oh crap. stupid ROM..
and what about the applications?
I see that they also gone,
Can they be restored?
No, apps can`t restore.
Before flash everything, I advise do backup all with TB, nanodroid backup and then flash all that you need.
These actions will help you keep all the data and, if anything, to restore everything as it was.
Good luck.

If you downloaded them through the marketplace they'll automatically download and install when you sign in with your google account on your phone.
sromer, titanium backup does not wipe messages. To backup messages use sms backup+ which is free. If you have a nandroid backup, restore that, backup messages and do your rom thing again.

SMS Backup & Restore would also be a good choice
MyBackup has successfully restored sms, mms etc. for me 10+ times now. definitely worth using. great program!
If you want constant backups I use gosms and only use it yo schedule backups every day at 6, then all is good, but I'm going to start backing up on every text I get

Lost contacts

Hello
i rooted with alpharev and then I install CM7.
Now I do not have any contacts. I have make nand backup clockwork
What is the easiest way to get contacts back??
Thanks
I think you should wait a bit.
Mine came back after a while.
Install Google Apps to sync with your Google account. Here's a link http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version/Google_Apps
Depends on whether ur contacts are on phone, sim, or gmail account. If on gmail account u shouldn't have lost them.
And I'm not sure but i think my cm7 is not displaying the sim contacts.
Ok. There may be applications to recover them. But they can also be recovered by doing following. This can be done only if u have made the nandroid backup of previous rom.
-----make a fresh nandroid backup of ur current cm7. This won't overwrite the previous backup but just gets saved as a seperate recent backup.
-----then boot into recovery and clear data / factory reset. Then restore the previous backup. Now u will see the contacts. Now backup them with some application to memory card.
-----now again reboot into recovery and restore the cm7 backup. Then restore the contacts with same application u used to backup.
I think it works.
I have recovered original ROM, but there is now no contacts !!!
Thanks for answers.
I hope I have also old contacts in Dashwire for mobile windows
Could I get it from there??
Yes
I guess there is android app too.

[SOLVED]Lost contacts after flashing LiquidSmooth

Now I already know what I did wrong. I'll explain what happened.
I was stock rooted before and flashed LiquidSmooth RC2 4.2.2 (first ROM I ever flashed, go figure). I thought I had backed up all my data. I synced Titanium to dropbox, moved my backup to my external SD, kept a copy on my computer, and created a nandroid through TWRP as well. Now I thought I had done my research, newbie little me went and backed up through Titanium but ONLY apps and data, I didn't know I had to also back up my contacts/sms/mms through the XML otherwise they wouldn't transfer. I did a little more research and found I can restore contacts through a nandroid backup by restoring Contacts Storage, well I gave a go at that and I got an error that said "Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped working" over and over again so to fix that problem I cleared the data for that app and it stopped. However, my problem still remains that I do not have my contacts. I'm actually really mad because I was convinced I did my research and backed up my phone to a comfortable point to flash for my very first time, at least I didn't brick my phone!
MAIN QUESTION: How do I retrieve my contacts with only a nandroid back up and preferably not using the nandroid to revert to stock and then reflashing LiquidSmooth? I also have my titanium backup files.
Edit: I do know how to send a logcat and use ADB(minimally) if that helps. Also, oddly enough I retrieved my call log and my sms/mms but the only thing eluding me is my contacts which is what I want more than both of those combined
Re: Lost contacts after flashing LiquidSmooth
In the time you wrote this and have been waiting, you couldve made a nandroid of Liquidsmooth, restored your stock backup, exported the CSV of your contacts, and finally restored to LiquidSmooth and imported your contacts CSV
To avoid stuff like this, I created one google account exclusively for my contacts, separate from my personal and work emails. This way you only sync contacts between your phone and that one and all the junk stays somewhat organized haha

^^^ That, and only that.
Also. You can use My Backup root to backup mms/sms/contacts/call log. That's what I do.

Nope, when you restore a backup (this is the only exception) you dont need to wipe anything

Awesome thanks so much! One more question, I found an app called super backup does that work just as well or should I use my backup root? Can't I also just restore to stock rooted and use titanium to get the XML then restore back?

Uhhh....I dont use either, but i would advise you to use My Backup root as you know thats its worked for someone else with this same device
EDIT: Just saw your edit, and I guess you could, but would you be able to restore that with TB when you're back on LS? I ask because I dont use TB very much, and not for my contacts at all. But if you can, then go for it! You just wouldnt be able to restore it with any other app because its most likely, even though it would still be an XML, stored in a different order or in a different way that is specific to how TB parses it

[Q] Does the backup file from rooted phone have contacts?

Hi Team,
I am in desperate need. I tried to get superuser on phone and rooted with CWM. But now the phone is in boot loop and I don't know what can I do besides factory reset. Phone is Galaxy S3 SPH-L710.
I tried the back up using the vol down + Home menu and got back up file on my external sd card. But i can't figure out that it has all my contacts or not..
If I reset the phone, I will loose all my contacts.. I need them..
Anyway to verify? if I reset, will I be able to restore it from SD card ?
Please help..
JB
If you made a backup from recovery it is likely your contacts are in that backup. The trouble will be making use of the backup you have.
If you reset and restore that backup you will be right back where you are now (assuming that you made the backup of a bootlooping phone). You really needed a backup before you got messed up.
What type of contacts are they (Phone, Gmail, etc). If they are Gmail then they should be synced to your Gmail account. Log in and check. If so then they will come back to the phone when you add the gmail account.
If they are not in your gmail then you will have to find a way to extract them from the Nandroid backup. I have read that Titanium Backup has the capability of restoring data from a Nandroid. I have not tried it though, so, YMMV.
Your best bet may be to try to clear the bootloop. Have you tried wiping Cache and Dalvik cache in the recovery?
Titanium backup pro will let you extract the contacts from a nandroid. But if they are your Google linked contacts they will sync when you add your account. This comes in handy when switching phones or ROMs. I link all of my contacts to my GMail now so I don't ever loose any. They can be viewed from your PC by logging into Gmail and then selecting contacts on the Gmail main page to make sure they are there.

If you have a stock rooted ROM before you backed up, you can just flash another stock ROM, make sure it boots up, and restore data from the not working backup.
Do an advance restore and restore data only. Worked when I backed up stock and flashed another pure stock ROM with root.
