Hey,
Today at my first time, I Installed ROM and Kernal and Radio and all this essential crap.
Before I started, I went to HTC Sync software on my PC, and backed up all my files, Calender, People and thou..
But I guess I didn't notice that the SMS messages are not included on the backup list.
So now with my new ROM, when I synced back the files from the HTC Sync, it only bringed me back the Calender, People.. but not the messages,
Witch is pretty important for me, I had alot of important SMSs which I wish to restore.
When I installed the ROM I went through all the steps on the guide including the Wipe thing that I understood it is something backup?
Also I used the google's sync all the time,
Is there any option to get my SMSs from there?
Thank you very much,
Yarden.
As far as I know HTC Sync and Google Sync no backup messages.
You should have previously backup you messages with (for example) Titanium Backup.
If you haven`t Nanodroid Backup previous rom - you can`t restore you messages.
I don't love you..
oh crap. stupid ROM..
and what about the applications?
I see that they also gone,
Can they be restored?
No, apps can`t restore.
Before flash everything, I advise do backup all with TB, nanodroid backup and then flash all that you need.
These actions will help you keep all the data and, if anything, to restore everything as it was.
Good luck.

If you downloaded them through the marketplace they'll automatically download and install when you sign in with your google account on your phone.
sromer, titanium backup does not wipe messages. To backup messages use sms backup+ which is free. If you have a nandroid backup, restore that, backup messages and do your rom thing again.

SMS Backup & Restore would also be a good choice
MyBackup has successfully restored sms, mms etc. for me 10+ times now. definitely worth using. great program!
If you want constant backups I use gosms and only use it yo schedule backups every day at 6, then all is good, but I'm going to start backing up on every text I get

I addicted to looking at and trying out new roms but its so annoying that i have to download everything back and all my text are wiped bla bla i think some people might understand.
anyway i can install new themes but when its done loading that all my apps and everything is still the way i left it?
thanks in advance
First of, download and install Titanium Backup or Titanium Backup Pro. With it, you can backup all of your apps and their data. After doing that, go into recovery and make a nandroid backup of your current set up. Doing so will put your device back like it was just in case you don't like the new rom, theme or whatever it is you plan to flash. Afterwards and while in recovery, wipe everything except the SD card then flash your new rom. None of your previous apps should be installed.

you beat me to it, lol
Flattering us won't help.
And well to get your apps back, backup with titanium, restore apps and data, not system settings. And for you second question, it depends on what the app themes, you can always re-do the icon.
And jeeze, I'm the last one in the 7:08, 7:09, 7:10 time reply train.
Also, I just learned about backing up adw desktop settings ...restores all folder and apps where they were when you backed up. Super convienent...use after restoring from titanium backup.
ok so i just got to install titanium backup (which i have already but have never used it) and backup my apps and data as is (does this include my text messages? )
and the difference between titanium and Nandroid backup is the titanium backs up my apps and nan backup takes me back to my last backup was just incase the current rom i installed is not to my liking or faulty? right?
Correct me if im wrong, i can take it
tell you guys the truth i just care about my text's messages being erased. i don't mind installing the apps again.
Download and install SMS backup+ from the market, it's free. Once you set it up (easy) it will back up all your SMS and MMS to your Gmail account. When you load a new rom you can restore all your txts as well. You can set it to back up automatically or manually, your choice. To restore just start the app nd click restore, boom, all sms are loaded back up.
Thanks alot guys i really do appreciate it.
Complimentary BJ's to all
Mybackup pro will do that call logs text msgs and mms

i got a new rom and clicked restore and it restored "0"
and i did back it up all 139 texts.
Did you check your gmail account? It should show all your texts saved to a folder. If it didn't, then you never properly backed them up.
Once you install the new rom, be sure you signed back into your account in the backup app.

Welcome,
I've like to ask you which method is the best to backup/migrate my contacts and sms box before changing rom? My goal is to backup phonebook (which is connected to FB) and sms box before running ROM MANAGER and updating from Revolution to Cyanogen ROM. After updating soft I'd like to restore inbox and contacts into new rom. I've tried backing up data and restoring while flashing but after restoring rom goes back into Revolution. Any ideas for most convenient way to achive my goal?
Your contacts should automatically be synced to your Google Account... check this in your Gmail account (Click "Contacts" on the left).
For SMS i use an App called GOSMS for my messaging and it also has a backup feature in it. It also has the advantage of being a lot better than the stock messaging app.
This solution worked for me great! I didn't also noticed earlier export to sd functionality in my DHD contacts.
Thanks!
Cheers, after reading this I have just noticed export to SD card option in contacts.
This is just what I was looking for.
That was a good find. I also had not noticied this. Nice way to keep backups. I will check the gosms thing later.
Maybe you can try mybackup (pro) from market. It works good for me all the time and you can also backup and restore your system settings, apps, even with data if necessary.
I use SMS Backup & Restore. It is easy to use and you can do regulary Backups

Thank you! You have given me an idea and I found free app on the marketplace: SMS Backup Android. Back up is a sore point when it is too late.
Hi
Im looking at flashing a rom on my desire, if i flash it with a new rom will i lose all the internet history, missed calls list and txt messages ect. Can these be recovered after the flasing process?
I know that my memory card will be ok as i have backed that up?
Thanks
Matt
Hi topgunmatt,
If you don't back things up you will lose the data, when putting on a different ROM.
I have used SMSBackup that backs text messages up to your google account.
As far as internet history and missed calls etc I am not sure.
If you have root then you can use Titanium Backup which has a number of options for backing up apps etc. I am new to this myself but the 2 apps i have mentioned did work fine for me.
Hope this helps.
Thanks, i was just wondering that when you flash a rom to a desire and you havent backed anything up to
sd, ie just the internal phone memory could it be recovered?
Matt
Hi there I've only flashed roms a couple of times but Titanium backup can back up your contacts, sms, call logs. Not too sure about internet history as I'm not usually too concerned with it but your bookmarks will be backed up also.
If you're rooted I would recommend a nandroid backup by booting into recovery (handset off then volume down and power on, 'recovery', then 'backup and retore') just to be on the safe side. This will be a full backup of your phone at present and you can save a copy to your PC for safe keeping.

Totally agreed. Titanium Backup is the best choice if you are rooted (and i guess you are when flashing new rom )
And ALWAYS nandroid when trying out new roms, so you can go back easily.

+1. Titanium Backup is the best backup tool for root users.

I got issue a week ago where almost every app randomly crashes on my phone. It is Desire running CyanogenMod, with app2sd (including data). I tried upgrading CM, restoring stuff from nandroid backup, and changing SD cards, but the problem always comes back.
So I want to wipe everything clean and install system on fresh device.
However, I also want to keep my contacts, text messages, call history and stuff like that. How can I do it without using nandroid (which would also transfer my old problems)?
I use sms backup+ for sms and Call history. Are your contacts not google contacts?
Not all of them are google contacts. I'd also like to keep some other settings from other apps...
When you restore SMSes with SMS backup+, does the stock android message app still see the correct dates of text messages, or are they one big mess cause all the dates are reset to restore date?
Basically, I want to backup everything that does not have a chance of transfering the error form the old systme.
Do you think full system Titanium Backup would do it? Does it only backup app settings and saved data, or whole apps?

I use Titanium for apps and their data, but for contacts, messages, phone history, etc i prefer My Backup Pro.
Hey everyone, first time post but a long time browser of the forums. Been flashing ROMs on my One X and have always had a problem of getting stuck in a bootloop when restoring NOT ALL but only some system data such as Mail settings, SMS messages and a few Bookmarks. So I thought I'd sign up and ask you guys the question. Currently I'm running the Team Venom ViperX 3.2.4 ROM but this has happened on previous ROMS that I have tried. Now I know from previous research that you shouldn't restore all system data in Titanium Backup, but surely a few SMS text messages and mail account settings shouldn't cause this? Or maybe im just being really dumb and not understanding the obvious. However I'd like to get an answer from this great community, as im getting tired of doing reset after reset. :fingers-crossed:
Many thanks everyone.
Brad.
It's not recommended to restore system apps/data using titanium. Don't do it especially between different Android versions, or between Sense/AOSP ROMs. It'll mess thing up, like you noticed. If you, for example, backup your mail settings in CM10 and restore in ViperX, it's not going to work.
As a solution, you probably shouldn't restore system data.

Wow, thanks for the extremely fast reply:good:, that has finally put my curiosity to bed lol. Thanks for the advice!
Many thanks.

One more thing: Instead of titanium, try these lil' apps
SMS Backup
Chrome Sync bookmarks to Google account.
Don't know about email... Have you tried restoring data only?
Yeah, got Chrome already but i'll definitely try sms backup. I managed to get my Mail account settings and SMS texts from Titanium Backup but I wont use TB for system data again!
Many thanks.
Brad.
