Hi there, I am writing my help thread here as i do not know what to do , Around 1 month ago my galaxy note 2 GT-N7100 stopped working overnight, I left it to charge one night and the next morning it was stuck on the first boot screen with the model name in white writing on it. Only download mode is accessible not recovery mode. On browsing through forums I found that most people were saying it was the "sds bug" and the only way to fix it was to send it to a repair centre to get fixed , no problem it was still in warranty. So I sent it to the website posted in those threads for free samsung repairs hoping it would get fixed under warranty. A couple of days later I received a phone call saying that the phone was liquid damaged and so could not be repaired under warranty. They sent the phone back to me so i took it to a water damage specialist in town. He opened the phone up in front of me and showed me the water damage indicator, the indicator is completely white without even a hint of pink/red. So i phoned samsung with this information and they arranged to pick it up and take it to a repair centre of theirs. I have received another letter and the phone back today saying that the phone has come into contact with liquid causing "severe ingress and contamination internally" and that "The extent of this damage means that the cost of repair will exceed the cost of the handset" So i promptly took the phone to another water damage repair specialist in town who again confirmed that the phone had not experienced any liquid damage and that the sticker was white. I had not experienced any problem at all with the phone before it died on me and it seems to show all the symptoms of the sds bug, So my question is what do I do from here? Is samsung lying to avoid repairs?
Thanks in advance
Never heard of a case on xda where they denied repairing in sds case.
Try in sds forum.

Water damage specialist? Never heard of

Ask them for proof that it was water damage. They will gave to give you proof. And since you got it checked you should have no problen proving them they're wrong
Sent from my GT-N7100
Take a picture of the phone and the indicator as a proof. Tell them in writing you are taking them to small claims court and get in touch with your consumer rights department or citizens advice borough. Make a scene and get noticed. Talk to their superior and arrange a one 2 one meeting. It's all down to you if you want your phone repaired under warranty.

So let me get this straight you went to this specialist and they took the phone apart? Or did they just check for the water indicator underneath the battery only? Coz maybe there's another indicator inside the phone that shows water damage.

They took it apart and the indicator inside was white
Im sorry but the fact that you disassembled it at an unauthorized dealer means your warranty is void and samsung can use that alone to wash off their hands In this matter.

just washed it off with a little soap and water and it went haywire. red LED came up. no water entered the port. moved connector around and LED went off. went to plug in and physically wouldn't connect to the charger. played around with it more and now it appears the connector is entirely damaged/not present. wtf? how can I get this replaced?

Seriously? Wash your charging port with soap and water? Lol

should have been more specific. i put a little bit of soap and water on the screen and the case, not on the sides or top/bottom of the phone.

Water/Soap (water in general) on a phone = bad period. wtf would you do that seriously??
As for getting it replaced walk into a store and just tell them it will no longer connect. but don't tell them what you did seriously. and never do that again.
indeed... strange that I cannot even physically insert the cable. anyway, got in touch with Sprint's chat line and the guy noted my account to walk in tomorrow and get a replacement. gotta love the service.
I don't have insurance. The phone is covered by a one-year warranty. The port failed to connect to a USB cable. see where I'm coming from?

Then you're out of luck. Someone walking into the store and saying "Care sent me here for a replacement" is an automatic defensive stance. We hate when customers say that.
If you haven't just gotten very lucky from sprint about replacement..two things one and it's weird but works..drop phone in dry rice overnight..it absorbs any water from phone..then make sure that moisture tags aren't on the phone by battery connector..no expert by any means but this website and it's members have saved my hide many many times with tips and tricks..hope this helps.

don't see how I'm out of luck. the failure of the USB port is directly attributable to a defect by the manufacturer. Sprint exchanges these devices and sends the defective units to Samsung(with a receipt, which I don't have, but the guy I spoke with said he could either have one for me in three days or note the account appropriately). everyone wins.

No, you put a little bit of water on your screen and it created a short somewhere that effected the charging port. Let me guess ... you conveniently failed to tell the customer care Rep that you were cleaning the screen with water when the charging port stopped working.
Defect by the manufacturer? Seriously? Does anyone take personal responsibility for anything anymore?

Sorry. I had to fight through a little laughter. Obviously water is a big no no..... But, a few years ago I accidentally washed an old ipod left on my pants pocket. Took out of washer, put in a bowl of rice and covered with saran wrap. 2 days later was like new. Somehow the rice absorbs water even out of the tiniest places. Give it a shot, not much else to lose as of now right.
NV, just saw you sent it out.

I do hate to break it to you, but that isn't how it works. No customer service number, not even retention, has the authority to demand a technician give the customer a replacement device. The technician will inspect your device, probably trash the shoddy e-ticket created by care (although in violation of M&P to do so), and create a new one based on their decision. Can almost promise that you will be required to submit an Asurion claim

If nothing else, its good to learn/confirm from this thread that Sprint will tell you one thing, and completely do another once you deal with someone else, I have had this multiple times. So annoying ...

I'm sorry, but we don't honor manufacturer warranties. Unless you have TEP or even just ESRP, it will still cost $35. Provided, of course, that they don't find any liquid.

Mr gf has a stock galaxy nexus. She got it less than 2 months ago. Today, she grabbed it from her bag, and it was off. She turned it on, it started to boot, then shut down. Now it won't respond. It doesn't turn on at all. We tried connecting it to a charger (wall charger and car charger) - no response. We tried connecting it via usb to her laptop - no response.
She took it to verizon and they took out the battery, mentioned the sensor should be red if it had water damage then said it has water damage (even though it was still white), entered into the notes on her account that it had water damage after contradicting themselves, and told her the only way to get a new phone is to pay full price for one.
I've been reading through posts, and it looks like other bricked phones have been flashed. She doesn't even know the first thing about doing anything like that. It's a stock phone. The only thing I can think of is she downloaded some maliscious app, but I wouldn't think it'd brick the phone. Anyone experience this or know what to do aside from contact her credit card company?
Sounds like you had an incompetent CS rep at Verizon. Call and ***** or go back in. If it really doesn't have water damage then it isn't her fault, and you should be getting a replacement.

Try with another battery...
If you can find someone else with a GNex.
It may just be that your USB port is broken and won't charge the dead battery?
But agreed...go in ASAP and be like "Dude would NOT listen to me. I'm aware that my account is flagged for having a water damaged phone. But look; there is clearly no water damage. And you can check as hard as you want. I did NOT tamper with the sticker or anything of that manner."
(Also make sure BOTH indicators are white...the one on the phone AND the battery)
Thanks. We'll see what they say. She tried calling in to customer service last night, and they told her she can use her insurance (pay $100) and get a replacement in TWO WEEKS, since they're out of stock.
does the verizon gnex actually have a water damage sticker on the battery? mine (gsm) doesnt. so if it should be there make shure it is there

i just pulled my battery and there's 2 spots. one on the battery and one right next to the battery pins. (its a vzw nexus)
I had to send my nexus into Samsung for service just about a month after I got it from Google. I was having the issue where it showed that it was charging when not plugged in.
I just got the phone back after 3 weeks, with it not repaired. It included a red sheet saying that the warranty was void due to corrosion from water damage. Unless I perspired on it, I never got it wet.
Do I have any recourse? What should my next step be? Thanks in advance for your help.

you can take it to a cell phone service center, replacing the usb should be fairly inexpensive. or you can try doing it yourself.
You either; Clean the USB port, replace the USB port, let your battery die and charge it over night or use a custom rom. Here is a thread that is relevant to your situation.

Simba was moving too slow, so I told him to Mufasa.
Thanks guys - I saw that thread before I sent it out - I tried the toothpick trick and tried cleaning it before I sent it out.
What makes it really bad is that the phone is worse now than when I sent it in. I always had a full 4 bars inside my house, and now I don't get any service inside. My daughter also has a gn, and she still has the same great service.
I have 3 s3's on my account. I have had intermittent problems with 1 of them lately. It would not charge. No matter what cords I used even swapping out the battery with another s3 this one phone would not charge. So for a day I just charged up my battery in one of the other s3's and swapped it back and forth. When plugged in it would show it was charging but it could sit all nite and % would go down. Well I was cleaning the battery connectors with a q-tip and some alcohol trying to figure out if maybe it was some sort of connection issue. In doing so I touched the water damage sticker with the qtip thats on the phone under battery. It slightly changed the color. I wasnt sure what it looked like before so I checked my other s3 and it had no sticker in that spot. Had the little square outline where it would go but no sticker. I purchased this phone brand new so I know it was simply not there to start. My question is this. Due to my problem with charging Samsung is covering the cost to send it in for repair/replace. I know it never had water damage and any hidden stickers inside the phone will back that up. But my worry is because of the slight change in color from q-tip alcohol would I be better off just removing it like my other s3? I know some people say that the removal of those stickers voids warranty but that would tick me off seeing how if I ever have a problem with my other one that never had the sticker they would void it.
EDIT: I should also add that after a day the phone started charging again fine. This has now happened 3 times. Will work fine for a few weeks then all sudden the no charge issue comes up again. Then going away on its own. I just dont want to keep going like this and have one day after warranty is up it not charge again.
my sprint gs3 also has no stickers.. can anyone verify what is up with this? is there more hidden ones in the phone itself????

Mine had the charging problem and I received a replacement free of charge. As for the water damage sticker idk how that's going to work for you. I will tell you this. When I took mine in they looked at it for 10 seconds and then just said we'll send your replacement in the mail but then again all techs are different

anyone else had an experience with their watch rebooted after couple of mins. in pool? when I saw the phone rebooting I instantly got out of.water then the watch went off and couldn't turn it on anymore.
My galaxy watch smr805u did the same thing. I fully dissasembled it and gave it an alcohol bath for one hour. Nothing worked. Took the battery out and manually charged it. Still says rebooting. Its wither the mobo or the home/power/back ribbon at this point.

Samsung is picky on the warranty with water damage. Since they still have restrictions on how deep, what kind of water and all that crap, they'll probably use any excuse to get out of paying on the warranty.
warranty return
their is no harm in contacting them over live chat and stating what happened the most they can say is no we will not repair/replace it. I have had a battery replaced in my s7 edge with zero problems under warranty i just went into a Samsung store and showed them and they repaired it straight away.
Edit: samsung were recently sued over misleading IP waterproof claims: https://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-sued-over-misleading-water-resistance-claims-galaxy-phones
