Hardware or software screen problem??? - HTC One X

This is my first HTC so i was very happy with my phone, speed and everything.
But after some time screen start to jump up and after few minuter it stops. That was for 3 or 4 times, and i thought thas is software problem, but i update phone on JB about month ago and it hapened again few times, but 2 days ago screen start to jumping and i cant to use my phone.
I recorded video and post it on youtube so if anyone know what is problem to tell me. I hope it is not big because i dont have warranty.

Definitely hardware.

I had the same problem with mi hox, in this moment the phone is on rma
i hope this problem will be solved soon

So is this something serious, or expensive to repair ?

From what i have heard in the past, replacing the touch display and digitizer costed around 180 euro's. But i don't know if its the screen/digitizer or only the mainboard that needs to be replaced.

had the same problem, my carrier sent it to guarantee repairs, got it back after 2 weeks, now i'm facing a problem where the volume rocker does not work when pushing volume up, it just randomly pushes the volume up itself for no apparent reason and i have to fiddle with volume down for a while to make it stop. i'm thinking of abandoning htc forever, this is my 3rd htc and every other has had major issues with hardware and software, i just can't trust them anymore.

Wow....
I happen to own a Samsung Galaxy S III, and coming from a family of HTC and iPhone users, I am really impressed with my device. My aunt has the One X as well, and her's did the same thing...she went to AT&T and they gave her a new one, No questions asked, seeing as it wasn't the first time they have seen something like it. They say there is an issue with the processor and something in the RAM...

HTC Artemis freezes or blacks out

Hi,
For two days I have had a serious problem with my HTC P3300 Artemis:
There are actually 3 different things that happen:
1. The phone freezes while working. No idea what causes it. Happened at different occasions.
2. The phone doesn't wake up when I hit the wake-up-button.
3. Often while rebooting the screens whites out or whites out and gets green or purple vertical lines.
In each case only removing the battery helps.
I use Mossisrom as my OS.
Can anybody tell me how to fix the problem? Is it a hardware or software problem? Please help me!!!

I get the problem about waking up too. Sometimes it won't for a while. I leave it a couple of seconds and then try again which usually works.
Have you checked how much free internal memory you have. WM seems to still be very sensitive to low memory.
Hi,
I am rather sure that it's not a memory issue. The system freezes completely, not just for some seconds. I can't call the phone either. I think its either a SW or a HW problem and hoped, someone could tell me what to do.

I can only suggest resetting the ROM back to a standard one and seeing if you still get the problems. If you do, it is probably a hardware problem and you should get the phone replaced.
I had the exact same problem with my P3300. It's a malfunction in the Motherboard. I've called the dutch helpdesk and because a hard reset didn't do much good the PDA was picked up later that day to be sent to Eurotwice, the repair station in Belgium. I got my phone back 2 weeks later, I started it and it froze again! So I immediatly called HTC Netherlands and again, the P3300 was picked up by UPS that afternoon. The second time I wrote a letter to the repair station and sent it with my phone. In another topic on another website I read that some other phone with the same problem had been fixed by replacing the motherboard. I got my phone back today and it works great! It hasn't crashed today, and I have confidence it won't in the future. So my tip to you and anyone who experiences this problem: Call the HTC helpdesk in your country and ask them to sent your PDA to a repair station. It might take a while but they fix it well! By the way, you have 2 years full garantee so it didn't cost me anything! Great service from HTC!
Wow, you had a great experience from HTC . I didn't. I had the exact same problem as posted. HTC claimed I broke the phone myself and wanted to charge me. They claimed something broke behind the screen and that I must've pressed it too hard, despite the screen still being intact. After three months of phone calls to the UK and a lot of empty promises (promised to get a manager to call me back, never got them. promised to discuss with repair dept and call me back, never got them) I finally got my phone back , fixed. No explanation as to why they changed their mind. I had asked them to take a picture for me of what was broken and to how they came to the conclusion that I was the one who broke it. Maybe they were too lazy to do it.

Touch Screen Response Problems

Hello.
I have some issues with my three day old mobile which I already changed, because my previews Desire which I bought two weeks ago had dead pixel (and this 2nd one has also a green bright pixel... but I don't bother to change it one more time because of this small error - I have to live with it - and it is a little frustrating having brand new but broken hardware).
Now my real issue... from time to time the screens are moving itself and I haven't control anymore. I don't know how to explain it.. but imagine you are dragging your home-screens continuous and in small distances really fast... it flickers... mmmh.
Is my touch screen broken or is it a software problem or.. or.. I really don't know.
I turned the device several times off but it does not really help, when I reboot the problem occurs sometimes again. And if so, I can hardly unlock the screen, because the response is so bad. Then I send it to sleep... try again, sleep, try again... sleep.. forget about it and later it is working again.
It is happening quite often.. 3-4 times this morning and in the afternoon I turned the device off completely. Now I turned it on again, and the problem occured two more times but now it's back to normal again. So ... haha... this is weird, probably I'm not using my HTC Desire right?
Since the problem comes sporadic I don't know how I should reproduce it and present a probably working device as broken to the customer service.
Any ideas? What could be a problem?
And do you have pixel errors on your Desire? I had several devices in the past (mobiles, laptop display, desktop display and so on) but never ever any pixel errors. I didn't even saw any on other devices as well. Now I had them on two HTC's in a row ...
Well,it had happened to my device two times when, after training,I tried to use it with sweaty hands.Probably sweat stayed on the screen causing false touches because the screen is so responsive.Try to reproduce it that way.If it's not that, then most probably you'll have to change to a new one again. And as for the screen problem, however small it may be you are entitled to ask for a new one as it is a factory problem and is inexcusable for a high-end 500 euro phone.
hello again..
I have still my "broken" Desire. Probably I will change it in the next days.
I made a short (****ty) video of frustration today, because it ended up not being able to response a call... (turn off the sound of the youtube-clips )
Then I shortly decided to buy a cheap ZTE Blade, but it turned out, that this device will be even more broken than my HTC Desire, which you see here:
this can't be random... three devices, and all were broken.
simply impressive.
all htc devices I've ever had have been perfect including a desire imo you should return it.
I've had bad luck with other tech before sure its annoying but all companies have dodgy units that make it through qc because they don't test every one just a random sample from each batch
What desire is it a world wide model or is it a branded one with telco software? Imo get the ruu and re flash it could be software rule that out first

Wow, you have some bad luck! Broken any mirrors recently?
Definitely looks like a hardware fault, but the Desire in your second video looks fine. Is that the broken unit?

Screen Unresponsive square

Hey guys,
My HTC Desire recently started acting up, there is a 2x2 cm square where touch will no longer respond. Has anyone encountered this? I expect its a hardware issue, in particular the digitizer. Anyone have recommendations for what I should do?
Current options on my mind
Repair (15 months on my contract left)
Upgrade (kinda costly for my pocket at the moment)
Buy a used smartphone for the next 15 months (probably another HTC Desire)
Thanks!
In my opinion I would say return it to HTC. There is a very small chance that it's a software issue. You said you will have the contract for 15 months, so I think this will be covered under warranty (unless your dropped the phone ofcourse).
I hope this helps.
I don't think it will be covered. It's a 1 year manufacturers warranty, and I don't see how it could be software related. I've flashed various roms and they have never had an issue until now, and it occurred right after I realize the screen was up against a big white eraser in my pocket.
Could you explain more?

[HARDWARE FAULT] [BSOD] Blank Screen of Death : Information Board - Updated 29/07/12

A few users have reported a Blank Screen of Death, with myself included.
The problem being that the phone's display doesn't switch on when you wake up the device. At this time, Everything else will including the Digitizer and Capacitive buttons.
I have spoken with HTC service centers across Australia and NZ to come to the conclusion that this is a motherboard problem. The infamous flickering issue seems to be involved also, which ends up shorting out the video driver.
The issue isn't just limited to the screen not displaying anything either, there's also the possibility that the back light will cut out, and sometimes leading to corruption on the display.
This isn't just with some devices either, it seems like anyone that has had the screen flickering issue are at risk of this.
To give you an idea of how much it costs to fix this issue, I was quoted at $250 AUD for just the motherboard alone.
The best part is, HTC may also deny your warranty for unlocking your bootloader, as they have with me.
I'll be posting more information as it develops.
EDIT 29/07/12 :: I'm going to request a transcript of my last conversation with HTC but until then, they're denying that this is a problem and saying that it's the user's fault. How? We use our phones to much, or inappropriately.
It's becoming obvious that they're trying to avoid spending anymore money fixing these issues, and have decided just to move on and release a new One X model. (according to news sources.)
Also, Boobinator just posted a video of the One X's screen corrupting while it isn't stuck under the BSOD which you can see here and here
Just to recap.
When the initial issues were found with screen flickering and corruption on the display, we were told it was a software issue.
Many months later, I along with many of you are still experiencing it, even though it's not nearly as bad as it once was.
Now there are growing reports that One X's are starting to lose their displays, and the poly-carbonate weakening and bending the antenna pins. (You can find more information here)
This is something you should all be aware about when purchasing this phone.
Best of luck!

Update Bump
Maybe us in America can file a class action lawsuit? I'm no lawyer here but anyone with better understanding of American consumer laws chime in?
This is problem that occurs with normal usage of the phone.
Another day, another hardware issue. HTC is going down the drain, im hugely disappointed in the way they are handling this mess. Improper testing, too slow to fix problems or ignore/deny them. Bull**** games about unlocking and warranty and now they are already talking about releasing more phones. Its easier for them to move on to a new model than to do the right thing and do a complete recall. Is this a QC issue or a design flaw, with all the negative reports I'm thinking its the latter.
HTC better handle this properly, they need to stop development on all new products untill this is solved.

Can u please send me details about the store that sells the motherboard ?
I have the same problem...and I need my phone fixed !
Thx
Is this the same flickering that happens in some ROMs when you rotate the phone?
Mine too
This just started happening to mine Nothing displayed on the screen, but it still responds to inputs. Even rebooting into fastboot, same problem. So everything is functioning except the display.
Have just handed it back to vodafone for repair, don't like my odds with the unlocked bootloader though :/
I had this issue on Viper or Android Revolution, but not on other ROMs. But I'm starting to get wifi issue, scratches, scratches on camera lins. I should buy S3, not this.

sent it back because of flickering. I just hope they will fix the problem properly and change the motherboard.

This happened to my Incredible S too if any one's interested.....
I'm not buying the HOX, I'm sorry. There's just too many different issues for too many people with this phone. It's an expensive top of the line phone, that does appear to be pretty shoddy put together. I don't care if it's under warranty and I have dumbass-insurance if I break it, but I can't send my phone inn all the time even if it's free. You shouldn't have to send it in at all.......
I presume now know we know why HTC is loosing money, market share and their stocks are going down....
This happened to me too, about a month ago, the phones been in repair since then(1 month, are you freaking kidding me HTC). I also unlocked the bootloader, lets see whether HTC charges me or not.
Also, I managed to get the display to work(somewhat) after shaking the device a bit. But even after that the display wont work properly, I even have 2 short videos of the screen acting weird when i got it to work. Here they are - Video 1 Video 2
Sorry for the ****ty quality, got it on my iphone. This was after I shook the device and the display magically started working. Even with the display working you can see it is really weird, even unresponsive at times.
So guys, there are a lot of places you can buy motherboards from, but they will charge you a lot more than what it's worth mainly because of the shortage within HTC.
I'm so sorry all of you are going through this, but i think we need to raise awareness of this issue. People are buying these phones without realizing there's a good chance they're going to have either bad WiFi antenna's or even a bad motherboard.
Send this to your friends, post it around, contact HTC.
Best of luck!
I am having this problem as well, as well as the WiFi antenna issue. The WiFi antenna somehow bent itself somehow, because after a while it was back to normal signal strength, so I didn't feel like sending the phone away for a month. But now with this screen issue it really is unusable, so it seems I don't have a choice anymore

Heat damage.
I doubt it's heat damage, i hardly played games on mine and it had that problem. I think the most i played was Triple Town, and that was it.
Also, wouldn't it be a massive problem if it was heat damage? That means the tegra 3 processor can't handle stress, and given that the phone inherently has heating issues, this just draws the conclusion that the Tegra 3 is bad news?
it may be a faulty soc
From what I've heard, it's been linked directly to the flickering screen problem. Which could mean that the first batch of One X's have all faulty Soc's? I mean, it's not uncommon for there to be manufacturing difficulties for the first few batches, but this is just absurd.

HOX Screen broken? GPU or software?

Good day guys,
I've read a number of threads on this forum about HOX screen problems and never quite had any until a couple of days ago.
All of a sudden I started getting yellow and pink pixels all over my screen. I thought that this was just a software issue in the beginning so I rooted, formated, installed a custom rom, and no luck, still have the same problem with the screen.
There is a number of interesting facts about this problem:
1) I have this when I restart the phone, in the boot menu, in the clockwork recovery, you can see the edge of the pixels being pink or some other random color.
2) When I press down hard enough around the volume+ area the problem seems to go away.
I wonder where this is the GPU dying on me, or perhaps this has to do with the connectors that run to the screen?
The phone never fell, or had any major damage, I did have it in my pocket all the time and when sitting down I guess that could stress the exterior of the phone.
Here are the pics:

I really do wonder if I can get it back for warranty now, since its rooted, since this is obviously a hardware problem rather than software.
There is only one way to find out. They might repair it for free if you ask nicely enough.

Man its a nightmare reading all the HTC One X problems, HTC has always made such nice phones, and they messed up just a bit along the way.
