[Q] Two diferent IMEI numbers - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, i'm proud owner of N7100 but i have problem with my IMEI number. "Phone settings/about phone" and "*#06#" show diferent IMEI number that it is on the back sticker and on the box. Sticker is intact, phone was BNIB, no water damage etc, no other problems with system. I've checked both IMEI's on web and both are valid and describe phone as it is. Anyone now?

What about billing? does it same with one in setting or same with box?
If billing and setting/dialling code is same then nothing to worry, may be box has been changed
But if billing IMEI is different then one in system setting, you should contact seller.

Odp: [Q] Two diferent IMEI numbers
I don't know about billing but IMEI on back sticker under battery matches IMEI on the box but is different than the one that is in settings and when dialing *#06#

If under battery cover is different then system setting, then you should headup to seller
It may be tempered.

What does it mean?

See if imei is different on system and box that can be understood as box may got changed
But imei one in system and one behind battery is different then it should been changed by any means
You should consult seller.

Did you purchase a brand new device?

Yes, phone was bnib, I saw all the bills from seller GT-N7100 Tapatalk 2

I think there can be 2 possibilities
1) Samsung made a mistake during packaging (including label attaching)
2) The phone mainboard was replaced by non-Samsung service center (If it is done by Samsung, they can transfer your IMEI to the new mainboard. Otherwise, the IMEI will be different)

I'm guessing bnib means brand new in box...but from the looks of things it seems your device was refurbished and repackaged and in the process the motherboard was replaced as the sticker is not attached to the housing frame.. There's absolutely no reason this should happen if it was indeed a brand new unused device. If I were you I would return it immediately.

[Q] aren't serial numbers unique to each desire?

I know I've asked an odd question only I sent my phone in to HTC for repair 2-3 weeks ago and I received an email this afternoon to say the phone will be delivered between 0900-1730 tomorrow, in the email the serial and IMEI numbers of the devices were stated but the odd thing is the serial number is the same but the IMEI is different from the phone I sent in for repair. So will I be receiving the same phone or is it a replacement? The S/N says same and IMEI says replacement. Maybe they changed the IMEI number?
The mainboard will have been replaced, which means new IMEI.
Same thing happened to me - what was worse was that mine was a SIM locked phone that i'd paid to have unlocked. When it came back, it was SIM locked again.

Dave

I thought it might be that, but that being the case I'dve thought the S/N would be different too. So what does the S/N represent then, the housing and screen..or?
anyway lets hope mine isn't locked then, I bought it on o2 and it wasn't locked to begin with

No Signal Uk - Need help / opinions please

Hi , i almost brought a Desire immaculate condition but the seller is saying its got No signal, cannot find a signal and may work outside the uk
but do you guys think its a hardware problem? or that flashing a custom rom change the modems/firmware etc etc could fix the problem
The device is stock from what i can tell
thanks for any help in advance
Perhaps its blocked, could've been reported lost or stolen and hence the serial number barred.

What should i check when buying a used Galaxy Nexus

Hello there,
i just found some selling his Galaxy Nexus, a half year old, no scratches and with original boxing etc.
We will met so i can check the phone, before i give him the money.
What should i check?
Are there any common things i should pay more attention for?
Thanks in advance,
GD
Signal issues.
(Also turn the screen off...wait ~2 minutes...and turn it back on. It should immediately display a data connection. Not have it pop up after ~10-15 seconds. This was supposedly fixed via software updates, but I've seen a couple people complain about it still.)
Screen issues (nav bar [the bar with home/recents/back] burning into the screen or weird purple/blue tints).
Saying it's charging when it's not.
Yeah normal stuff. Make sure the IEMI is clean, make sure there's no water damage, banding and other screen issues, etc.
You should check if it can maintain a 4g signal. Some nexus devices are defective. I have one. Vzw is sending me another one due to it. My wife's nexus is perfect. Mine will hold 4g and drop all cellular and data every 2-5 mins. 3g works perfect. About all I could think of checking on a used nex
Check the screen for purple tints/banding in grey and white backgrounds.
What's IEMI?

In short it is an I.D. for the phone that has to be clean to activate the phone. DO NOT BUY the phone without either going to or checking with your carrier making sure the phone can be activated and is not stolen.
The number is listed on the phone label under the battery.
The seller should have no problem giving the number unless it's stolen.

ok, but shouldn't that be IMEI?
i don't think it's stolen, because he has the original bill.
is checking with my sim-card enough to prove it's not stolen?

Ask him for the imei and Google free imei check. The website allows you to check the imei and if the phone is available for activation or not.

You're correct it is IMEI. Just make sure that the one behind the battery matches the one in settings/ about phone.
If it is a Verizon Nexus definitely get the IMEI checked because if an account holder hasn't paid their bill carriers can ban the IMEI from the network. There are free sites you can use to check this.
If it is a GSM model it isn't as serious since the device isn't branded to a specific carrier. There are Docomo Nexus's out there that have been reported to all have the same exact IMEI as one another and they're still using their phones fine.

You have to take the Gnexus apart to see the water damage sticker. So be careful with that

[Q] Change IMEI

Is it possible to change imei on n5110?
I don't know the answer, but I'm dying to know why you would want to or need to? My gut tells me the imei is hard coded into it though.

In some countries (such as here in Turkey) you need to register all gsm devices with imei numbers to be able to use them within the country. If you bought a phone from some other country and or if you buy a phone from the grey market (no tax etc.) you have to go through this registration process which is expensive and ridicilous (Can't register more than 1 item in 2 years). A lot of people therefore clone the imei numbers from some older useless (but registered) phone to their new phones because of this.
I don't know if it can be done with the note, though I do have a Galaxy Nexus with a cloned imei. No problems what-so-ever. I did not do it though, the previous owner had it done by some shady. .

Note 2 imei different from back panel

Experts. One of my friend bought a note 2 n7100 and has been using it since a few days. He wanted to upgrade so he tried to sell it to a second hand dealer, who notice that the imei was different from what was printed on the back panel. The phone is on stock 4.3 with knox count on zero. How can I help him get back the original imei. BTW the phone is working normal, problem is just the bogus imei.
Thanks.

Well, there are two possibilities:
1) The phone might be stolen and reported, so somebody changed the internal imei so it could work on networks. Find a website on your country where you can verify reported imeis and find out, but search the one on the back behind the battery, that's the one that matters (real one).
2) Thre imei might have been changed during another rom flash, sometimes that causes the imei to get corrupted and needs to be fixed and it can only be done by real samsung or mobile operators support.
Hope this helps. If it did, hit the thanks button.
