No Signal Uk - Need help / opinions please - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi , i almost brought a Desire immaculate condition but the seller is saying its got No signal, cannot find a signal and may work outside the uk
but do you guys think its a hardware problem? or that flashing a custom rom change the modems/firmware etc etc could fix the problem
The device is stock from what i can tell
thanks for any help in advance

Perhaps its blocked, could've been reported lost or stolen and hence the serial number barred.

Big Mystery! Desire has NO IMEI and i cannot it unlock :(

Big Mystery,
I have HTC Desire A8181 locked to Asia CASH network and i need it unlock.
But for unlock is needed IMEI number and this Desire has NO IMEI !!!
Under battery is only P/N number, S/N number and FCC nuber. Everything else is in japanese
When i tried *#06# nothing happens.
In Menu>Settings>About Phone>Phone Identity is only Model Number, Device Serial and Phone Number
Can you help me please ???
Have you tried looking on the box it came with ?
No- i'm from Czech Republic and the phone is found.
WoW, strange thing :S. Yep, it should be at least on the box...
Haha,
the phone is found...maybe it's stolen and locked from HTC. I will lock my phone if it will be lost or stolen.
And when you find a phone bring it to the next police station....and don't use it by yourself.
When you do something like that here in Germany, you will get big trouble.

hahaha- NO!
I'm gsm service technician.
Phone is found on airport by my customer.
Locked phones by police make no calls, but has no deleted IMEI !
if you remove the battery you'll see a sticker with the serial number imei, etc
I'd thought that a GSM technician would know that!
You should definitely turn it in, I used a prototype Nokia phone once, and I was contacted by police within a week. Then I found out it was reported stolen, and would have been charged with theft if i did not tell them were I got it from - even though I bought it in good faith, and was unaware of the situation. If I was charged at that time I would have lost my job , which it was definitely not worth at all. Just a heads up.

I didn't told about locking from police....I told about locking from HTC. Do you remeber the story with the new I phone from apple? They killed the software per remote access. Maybe HTC can do something like that, too.

Can you read ???
''Under battery is only P/N number, S/N number and FCC nuber. Everything else is in japanese''
...and here is photos
Wiping theory could be true, bu they can't remote wipe imei from under the battery ..
Could be one of those fake Desires? You know what the Japanese are like faking phones these days lol

nono - fake phones in not locked to networks
I don't think we should really be helping with this, if he's "found" a "lost" phone, it's not his, in effect it's stolen.
*#*#4636#*#*
That is a clone, not official HTC.
Model number is wrong, serial is in wrong format, even the sticker under the battery is wrong.
I've never seen one that says Desire like that, and all have MAC, P/N, IMEI, S/N on the silver sticker part.
Also on the front, a strange logo, should say HTC
I would inform your 'customer' who 'found' the phone that it is a cheap clone.
YEAAAAAHHHHH
Best reply from Italy.
Thank you!!!
Problem solved
This looks like a Korean market Desire. Noting the T on the top, it's SK Telecom. I know SK Telecom uses WCDMA2100 for their network, but CDMA for their older phones. Does the Koreans even use an IMEI for the WCDMA2100 phones? Maybe the Koreans disabled IMEI by *#06# in their ROMS

[Q] aren't serial numbers unique to each desire?

I know I've asked an odd question only I sent my phone in to HTC for repair 2-3 weeks ago and I received an email this afternoon to say the phone will be delivered between 0900-1730 tomorrow, in the email the serial and IMEI numbers of the devices were stated but the odd thing is the serial number is the same but the IMEI is different from the phone I sent in for repair. So will I be receiving the same phone or is it a replacement? The S/N says same and IMEI says replacement. Maybe they changed the IMEI number?
The mainboard will have been replaced, which means new IMEI.
Same thing happened to me - what was worse was that mine was a SIM locked phone that i'd paid to have unlocked. When it came back, it was SIM locked again.

Dave

I thought it might be that, but that being the case I'dve thought the S/N would be different too. So what does the S/N represent then, the housing and screen..or?
anyway lets hope mine isn't locked then, I bought it on o2 and it wasn't locked to begin with

[Q] If rooted, can it be tracked?

Hi,
I just lost my DHD, just as my husband and i were about to root both of ours this weekend!
We have obviously informed insurers, blocked the sim etc..
My question is this; If someone finds the phone, and roots it, will the insurance company still be able to track it via the IMEI or something??
They said they would put a 'block' on the phone, does this mean just the sim or the actual phone?
After building up to rooting our phones, I'm now thinking if someone finds mine and roots it they will get a free DHD at my expense :-(
Thanks
the IMEI won't be changed by rooting it
so if someone found it, and they checked the IMEI it should come up as lost/stolen
but of course that relies on someone checking the IMEI in the first place
thanks +1 maatsby
so the IMEI is a physical thing on the phone?
So basically, if someone found my phone, rooted it, used their own sim, there is no way for the insurance/ police/ provider to track the phone down?? (unless the IMEI is submitted and checked)
You're close...what happens is if an insurance company 'blocks' the phone they actually put the IMEI number into a blacklist for this country, that means if someone turns the phone on it will be emergency calls only...the phones radio(how it gets signal) will still work although blocked and the cell tower nearest to it will track its location should anyone be tracing that IMEI.....
So....no ones getting a free phone , although that doesn't stop it becoming spares I'm afraid...

I can confirm that!
My Dad's phone (rooted DHD) was stolen from him last year.
We reported it (in my country we report stolen phones to the provider company who reports it to the general security department).
We gave them the IMEI.
In less than two months they were able to track it down. They contacted us and we got the phone back!
I wish u all the luck in finding yours! Cheers..

Signal blocked

Hi,
I thought somebody rob my phone, so I went to my network operator and they blocked it. Today I found my phone, but when I turn it on, I have no signal (no service).
Anyway they will give me a new phone, but can I somehow turn that signal on???
I tried root and Custom ROM Cyanogen 9 night but still the same. I tried SIM card from different country but still the same.
They somehow blocked my phone to turn on signal.
Please help... maybe I have to flash a new radio.
THX
No, that's considered stealing
The phone is blacklisted on their network, so its basically a parts phone now

Call your carrier back and see if they can re-activate it. They should have only suspended service. Having no connection is normal when they do that.
is there possibility to change IMEI ? yes i know its illegal but is there chance ?

It really depends on your carrier, I know Verizon will temporally suspend all service until you find your phone, unless you know for a fact it was stolen, then they will blacklist the IMEI and send you a replacement.
So unless you tell them to cancel the one they are sending you, and re-activate the one you have, then no. Basically, there is no way to get a free phone out of this.

So, I can just sell the phone for parts or find somebody who can change mechanical the IMEI chip?

call your carrier first.
I always seems to see people openly discussing illegal stuff in a public forum..
so best way is to call my operator and tell them that i found the phone and would like to activate my IMEI on that phone?

if you want to use the same phone, that is the only way to go.
Yes, and cancel the phone they were gonna send. Don't scam the company you arse.

so, tmrw i will call them and hope they will activate it.
Discussion of activating a blacklisted phone is against forum rules

[Q] How to change IMEI on my HTC One X?

Hi,
I recently brought a One X while on holiday 2 months ago and It worked perfectly here in the UK although now it's saying no signal. I believe this to be an issue with the IMEI and I think the guy I got it was a bit dodgy. Are there any tools to change the IMEI as I've already rooted it and re romed it twice ( ARHD and CM10 Beta) I've also got clock work mod recovery installed. Are the any methods of changing the IMEI or jsut getting rid of the no signal error. I payed £450 and I would hate to see it go down the drain as this phone seems really good so if any of you can help I will be eternaly grateful.
Regards,
That is considered as an illegal act to change your device's IMEI number. I doubt you can find any information about that here in xda developers. Not in public at least.

Try a factory reset.

Changing IMEI in UK is illegal so there will be no help here about it.
To be honest phone was probably stolen, probably from UK so a decent thing to do would be to go to mobile operator, any operator or police and ask them to check it. If IMEI is reported stolen and phone was insured it is property of insurance company (they might sell it to you for good price or they might not), if it was stolen not insured last person is the owner and it is also possible they blocked wrong IMEI, happened to me 4y ago thx to o2.
Thread closed, the reason was explained above.
