Big Mystery! Desire has NO IMEI and i cannot it unlock :( - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Big Mystery,
I have HTC Desire A8181 locked to Asia CASH network and i need it unlock.
But for unlock is needed IMEI number and this Desire has NO IMEI !!!
Under battery is only P/N number, S/N number and FCC nuber. Everything else is in japanese
When i tried *#06# nothing happens.
In Menu>Settings>About Phone>Phone Identity is only Model Number, Device Serial and Phone Number
Can you help me please ???

Have you tried looking on the box it came with ?

No- i'm from Czech Republic and the phone is found.

WoW, strange thing :S. Yep, it should be at least on the box...

Haha,
the phone is found...maybe it's stolen and locked from HTC. I will lock my phone if it will be lost or stolen.
And when you find a phone bring it to the next police station....and don't use it by yourself.
When you do something like that here in Germany, you will get big trouble.

hahaha- NO!
I'm gsm service technician.
Phone is found on airport by my customer.
Locked phones by police make no calls, but has no deleted IMEI !

if you remove the battery you'll see a sticker with the serial number imei, etc
I'd thought that a GSM technician would know that!

You should definitely turn it in, I used a prototype Nokia phone once, and I was contacted by police within a week. Then I found out it was reported stolen, and would have been charged with theft if i did not tell them were I got it from - even though I bought it in good faith, and was unaware of the situation. If I was charged at that time I would have lost my job , which it was definitely not worth at all. Just a heads up.

I didn't told about locking from police....I told about locking from HTC. Do you remeber the story with the new I phone from apple? They killed the software per remote access. Maybe HTC can do something like that, too.

Can you read ???
''Under battery is only P/N number, S/N number and FCC nuber. Everything else is in japanese''

...and here is photos

Wiping theory could be true, bu they can't remote wipe imei from under the battery ..

Could be one of those fake Desires? You know what the Japanese are like faking phones these days lol

nono - fake phones in not locked to networks

I don't think we should really be helping with this, if he's "found" a "lost" phone, it's not his, in effect it's stolen.

*#*#4636#*#*

That is a clone, not official HTC.
Model number is wrong, serial is in wrong format, even the sticker under the battery is wrong.
I've never seen one that says Desire like that, and all have MAC, P/N, IMEI, S/N on the silver sticker part.
Also on the front, a strange logo, should say HTC
I would inform your 'customer' who 'found' the phone that it is a cheap clone.

YEAAAAAHHHHH
Best reply from Italy.
Thank you!!!
Problem solved

This looks like a Korean market Desire. Noting the T on the top, it's SK Telecom. I know SK Telecom uses WCDMA2100 for their network, but CDMA for their older phones. Does the Koreans even use an IMEI for the WCDMA2100 phones? Maybe the Koreans disabled IMEI by *#06# in their ROMS

IMEI Blocked

sorry this is slightly off-topic, and apologies if this forum is unsuitable. it's about a samsung e700 phone i also own.
I bought it secondhand from someone on ebay (stupid me) about 6 months ago (before i got the xda) and it later stopped working, first on o2 then soon after on all UK networks.
I enquired at an o2 shop and they said it is black-listed and nothing can be done about it.
My questions are:
1. will the imei block be global, or just UK? if not then i give it to a friend in tanzania when i go there next week
2. Is there any way to overcome the IMEI block?
hope someone can advise me, before it goes in the can!
cheers
International Mobile Equipment Identifier
I'd say from the first word that yes, it's probably not going to work in Tanzania either.
Blocked IMEI number usually just means one thing - stolen phone. Noting can be done about it either.
The identification is international, but blocking is operator dependant. except that often all the operators of the same country share their database of stolen devices. I guess that this database is not worldwide shared. So could de probably used in other country.

On some phones you can change the IMEI number that is blocked on that phone, but bear in mind it is illegal in this country so not advisable.
I would take it to Tanzania and check if it will work ... if not then bad luck but if it does then your mates got a new phone
It will work outside of UK
Thanks to everyone for the advice, I will take it to Tanzania and see if it works. My friend will be very happy if it does, otherwise I'm sure he could find a shop with equipment to change the IMEI number - probably don't have laws abou it there!
cheers,
Paul
Good news! I am now in tanzania and the phone works fine on the network that my friend uses. He is very pleased with his "new" phone.
Nice, hot and sunny here, but no XDA to play with. Just my baby, friends and nice empty beaches and warm water to swim in. Oh how much I miss the UK
no one have any idea how to spoof or change the IMEI?

Er....why?
Yes actually I do. Quite simply a physical way, which is not illegal in some areas and also you can do it by imei manipulation, but that requires playing with other peopels systems.
will defonatly work abroad.
the phone will only be blocked to UK networks
so should work abroad

T-Mobile Desire: IMEI on phone does not match on box?

To those who have the T-Mobile HTC Desire, is your IMEI number on your phone the same with the one on the packaging box? Mine do not match
LOL, where did you get it from? the official t-mobile shop or some retailer? I think you should contact them asap in case of further misunderstandings
You need to ask T-Mobile about that, I would be making sure that I had matching Box and Handset IMEI numbers, unless they can give you a very good reason why they are different?
I got it on Saturday from T mobile (upgrade). I just realised lol will call them

or they tell him it doesnt matter and the IMEI of the phone is the same with the one in their system
My IMEI matches so no problem here.
some operators can track the phone by the IMEI, so i guess if your phone have been stolen and went to the police station or the mobile service provider for help so they can track the mobile for you, the first thing they will ask is to see the IMEI and prove that its yours, probably through the package
so go to them and tell them about the mix up, atleast if something happened later on, you would have already mentioned it.
Just called them and was told that they are gonna send me a new phone apparently. They are gonna call me back soon. Oh wells!

[Q] aren't serial numbers unique to each desire?

I know I've asked an odd question only I sent my phone in to HTC for repair 2-3 weeks ago and I received an email this afternoon to say the phone will be delivered between 0900-1730 tomorrow, in the email the serial and IMEI numbers of the devices were stated but the odd thing is the serial number is the same but the IMEI is different from the phone I sent in for repair. So will I be receiving the same phone or is it a replacement? The S/N says same and IMEI says replacement. Maybe they changed the IMEI number?
The mainboard will have been replaced, which means new IMEI.
Same thing happened to me - what was worse was that mine was a SIM locked phone that i'd paid to have unlocked. When it came back, it was SIM locked again.

Dave

I thought it might be that, but that being the case I'dve thought the S/N would be different too. So what does the S/N represent then, the housing and screen..or?
anyway lets hope mine isn't locked then, I bought it on o2 and it wasn't locked to begin with

[Q] Help with imei number

I purchased a phone off CL. I tried to put a SIM card in but it doesn't recognize one. So i realized the IMEI number on the back does not match the IMEI number in android OS. It doesn't say 000000 or one of those fake IMEI 049 numbers. It just has another IMEI number. My question is, is there a way to modify the numbers to match the IMEI number i have on the back of my phone?
I actually didn't know it didn't match until i sent it to samsung to fix. I thought it was just a problem with the SIM tray but they stated that the IMEI numbers don't match. As a result, they just sent my phone back without fixing anything.
Please help me out. It's on stock rom and not rooted
Again.. the phone is not blacklisted.. I want to change the IMEI number (software) shown in android OS to match the IMEI number (hardware) that i have shown on the back of my phone. I don't know why it's not the same.
Thanks for your help
when phones are refurbished, they change the imei number so its probably just a refurbished phone. Leave the imei alone. Im pretty sure the imei doesnt affect the phone recognizing the sim card anyway, but i could be wrong on that

They do change the IMEI when they refurbish, but they also put a brand new sticker on it that shows the new IMEI. Also it's a different sticker than the one that comes on a new phone. It's a different size and it positioned differently. Makes it VERY clear if your phone is new or refurbished.
Aznn0, though you may not realize it what you bought is a stolen/blacklisted/insurance exchange/etc S4. It had a bad IMEI and the seller changed it (illegally) and then sold it to you without bothering to mention the device's history.
If you changed it to the IMEI listed on the back of the phone (And I am telling you in no undercertain terms that you should not!) I'd bet latge sums of money that the phone would go dead because the IMEI listed on the back is a blacklisted number.
So Samsung won't touch it ever again. They will never do a repair for you. If it breaks, you're on your own to fix it.
None of this is probably your fauly and I believe you didn't know what you bought. But it is what it is.
Regardless, asking questions about how to change an IMEI are expressly not permitted on XDA. I know you didn't know, so no hard feelings. But don't ask about how to change an IMEI here again.

yea they do put a new sticker on it, but allot of sellers on ebay/craigslist remove the sticker so that they can sell it as "new" and get a few extra bucks. most sellers assume that buyers wont ever find out which is probably true 90% of the time
Thanks for all your replies.
It's weird because I put in both the IMEI numbers listed from the back of the phone and the one listed in android and they came back clean. I used one of those free esn checker websites. I know they aren't 100% reliable but damn..
I thought matching the IMEI number would do the trick.
It sucks...
I'm having the exact same problem! Mine is an s4 active and when I called my phone service provider they didn't tell me that mine was blacklisted or anything either...
error 119 your mobile phone's imei number not match, plz help me

Question A52S/sm a526b/ds successfully rooted with camera working+ demo unit baseband 0000 imei question problem.

I purchased this phone unknowingly that it was a demo version.
I removed the demo version from it via the code, reset and then flash and update.
The dual imei numbers are both 0000 when I typed some code ( cant remember it showed that the imei is ok)
I wanted to get it repair via some of those remote box services. I dealt with very rude unpleasant person who was impolite, told me to install quite old xsg rom which is different csc compared to my original rom. When I flashed under imei there is UAE csc and new lines added under: TRA ID :
and TA : , and these two were not there before, device also shows just as a52 instead as a52s as previously. The person suggested the rom based on the build number that I sent him.
Afterwards he was asking for pictures and then blocked me.
Im wondering If I can fix this unit to usable cellular state with working real imeis
I thought xposed modules would help, but it seems they only help with apps and only change imei on them.
I highly doubt that this device has banned imei.
I would be happy to help you to root it and I would appreciate if someone can help me.
I searched many threads without success, I know the efs/qcb is probably corrupted
What route I should go to fix this device?
If it is a demo version and has no IMEI this tells you that this legally is no mobile device that is approved to use with operators. Inserting a new IMEI can not be legal in normal countries. IMEI is a device identifier sent with all phone traffic to ensure that the device is a legitimate one and is not stolen and black (do not work at all) or grey (works but flagged to be traced) listed.
Go back to the seller and demand your money back!
I hoped that someone with more experience with this would chime in, on these new galaxy devices the imeis still seems to suppose to be there, in galaxy 8 or older galaxy version there was no 4g module and antenna removed, I think this is what you are talking about right ? and it was purchased on ad.
Im wondering if these services like chimera can fix it.
I thought it's unrootable. How did you do it?

You must be joking; demo phones have no imei. They are not phones they are dummies. Throwing around inane accusations will do you no god around here.
