[Q] Change IMEI - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

Is it possible to change imei on n5110?

I don't know the answer, but I'm dying to know why you would want to or need to? My gut tells me the imei is hard coded into it though.

In some countries (such as here in Turkey) you need to register all gsm devices with imei numbers to be able to use them within the country. If you bought a phone from some other country and or if you buy a phone from the grey market (no tax etc.) you have to go through this registration process which is expensive and ridicilous (Can't register more than 1 item in 2 years). A lot of people therefore clone the imei numbers from some older useless (but registered) phone to their new phones because of this.
I don't know if it can be done with the note, though I do have a Galaxy Nexus with a cloned imei. No problems what-so-ever. I did not do it though, the previous owner had it done by some shady. .

Signal blocked

Hi,
I thought somebody rob my phone, so I went to my network operator and they blocked it. Today I found my phone, but when I turn it on, I have no signal (no service).
Anyway they will give me a new phone, but can I somehow turn that signal on???
I tried root and Custom ROM Cyanogen 9 night but still the same. I tried SIM card from different country but still the same.
They somehow blocked my phone to turn on signal.
Please help... maybe I have to flash a new radio.
THX
No, that's considered stealing
The phone is blacklisted on their network, so its basically a parts phone now

Call your carrier back and see if they can re-activate it. They should have only suspended service. Having no connection is normal when they do that.
is there possibility to change IMEI ? yes i know its illegal but is there chance ?

It really depends on your carrier, I know Verizon will temporally suspend all service until you find your phone, unless you know for a fact it was stolen, then they will blacklist the IMEI and send you a replacement.
So unless you tell them to cancel the one they are sending you, and re-activate the one you have, then no. Basically, there is no way to get a free phone out of this.

So, I can just sell the phone for parts or find somebody who can change mechanical the IMEI chip?

call your carrier first.
I always seems to see people openly discussing illegal stuff in a public forum..
so best way is to call my operator and tell them that i found the phone and would like to activate my IMEI on that phone?

if you want to use the same phone, that is the only way to go.
Yes, and cancel the phone they were gonna send. Don't scam the company you arse.

so, tmrw i will call them and hope they will activate it.
Discussion of activating a blacklisted phone is against forum rules

at&t imei problems

im currently using aokp jb. the back of my phone says one imei while the imei in the phone says a different one. apparently the imei number 004999010640000 belongs to a non-existant 16gb iphone 3gs. i dont know what changed my imei but i do know that at&t has recently started blacklisting stolen/lost devices and the imei i listed above appears as stolen. i dont know if people have been having problems while going to make a phone call but i have and just wanted to share the info i learned at at&t.
Maybe call at&T or go to a store and ask them to look it up and verify that it's not an iphone nor is it stolen but I doubt you'll have any really problems as at&t really doesn't do much for a stolen phone once the customer buys a new one

Where did you buy your Nexus? If you got it secondhand most likely the seller changed the IMEI but I dont know why that would matter as ATT doesnt sell the phone so they dont care if it was stolen. Pretty strange situation you find yourself in.
You might want to ask ATT to see if someone is using the IMEI on the back of your phone. If so, maybe they have the stolen iPhone. If you can get it straightened out, great. If you can't, send a pic of your phone's real IMEI and report it stolen. Then the crook (if there is one) can't use it, either.
my phone has two imei's one on the back and the one in the nv_data.bin the one in the nv_data is a generic one apparently which i dont know how it got there, most likely when my phone was sim unlocked cause i didnt buy it through the play store. and ive been trying to figure out how to restore imei's and have been following guide after guide to no avail. i know that imei changing is illegal and banned here but i dont know what else to do
tl;dr : my galaxy nexus has a generic imei in it and att is blacklisting my phone because of it

bought a blocked Tmobile Note2 craigslist

Well I was dumb paid 350 for it great shape guy said it was factory unlocked n I could use my net10 service on it.
Well its locked and when I tried unlocking it I seen I had 4.1.2 and need 4.1.1 to sim unlock. My buddy put his sim card in phone from same company same phone and it would not register so he told me phone was blocked either not paid off or lost or stolen.
My question is what can I do. If I downgrade to 4.1.1 and unlock sim will it still not work?
Thanks.
There's not much you can do legally. Contact the seller would be a good idea. Threaten police or civil action against him.
The note 2 can act as a cracking little tablet but wifi only.
I don't think downgrading the firmware will unlock a blacklist phone. There are websites that you can check imei numbers in the uk have a look where you are and proove it's been lost or stolen first.

Tried to 4 whole week he wont answear!!!!! I have a net10 sim card figured it would work guess I got screwed out 400 bux.
I use CheckMEND. UK, USA and EU sites. One of tools i use to help avoiding dodgy gear
From 2nd November 2012 AT&T and T Mobile in the USA began blocking handsets by using the IMEI and sharing this information between them. This means that even if the sim card is changed the phone will not work on these two networks.
CheckMEND has access to this data

Sorry for your problems. This is why I never get anything off craigslist unless I personally know the person OR they hand it to me locally and I test it. Again, sorry. Likely lost or stolen.............

[Q] Phone Stolen Need help getting IMEI

Hey Guys,
Recently I gave my mom my old S3 as I upgraded to the OnePlus One and she had it stolen off her desk by a student in her class.
I was trying to find the IMEI as the police are asking for it but since I cannot find my old box I am unable to. However I do have the old QCV backup from when I first rooted my phone. I was wondering if anybody has any idea if I can extract the IMEI from that so I can give it to the police?
Thanks!
Was it on a contract? If so AT&T should have it in the system. Call them to report it also, they may be able to locate it via your old number or any number associated with the phone. Also they'll blacklist it so its not usable.
Whatever carrier she uses it on will have the imei. Even if not on a contract they should be able to look it up.
And watch craigslist. Once blacklisted they'll probably try to sell it.

there are tons of people selling stuffs on craigslist, and i don't think they'll post imei on it unless they're stupid enough
again, a lot of them are, so no saying about it =D

Please help me fix this paperweight!!

Hi all!! Please be gentle, I'm new to all of this awesomeness. So I have a note 10+, it was given to me because they couldn't get it to work. Idk what they did to it, but they really did a number on it!! The model number on the back says sm-n9700, in the about phone stuff it says sm-n9750. I'm pretty positive the imei has been changed as well as the serial number. it's locked to tmobile I assume since that's the carrier that shows when powering on. HELP!!

What shows up on the splash screen doesn't necessarily mean it's locked to the carrier. It would be if the phone was financed/leased... But I have other concerns based on what you said.
Personally I would strongly suggest you just give the phone back.
It's really nice that someone gave you the phone, but this has the "too good to be true" ring to it.. Especially if the model number is not correct, that would be a major red flag. At the same time if you think that the IMEI was changed then I would definitely give the phone back. Absolutely no reason would exist to change the IMEI other then the phone was blacklisted, financed, lost/stolen or a warranty return that wasn't returned.

Only way is to pay company fully to unlock IMI of the phone. Nothing else going to work
Return it, buy from reliable source, easy
Well after digging deeper I have discovered that it's a freaking counterfeit (I guess that's what you'd call it). Oh well...that's my luck. But on the bright side I've managed to learn quite a bit, thanks to me being so determined, that otherwise I never would have educated myself on.
How do you change the IMEI of a phone?
I agree with the others though, give it back. If the person who gave it to you won't take it back, or is not around to take it back, and if you didn't pay any money for it, then recycle it.

Yeah, I figured as much. I was just curious. In my opinion, this thread smells a little sketchy.

When someone asks for things like this, most surely the device is an illegal matter, what a shame with these guys

I suppose these days with carriers opening their networks to other carrier's phones....
But in the past i did this a few times. Boost mobile for instance didn't have the device i decided i wanted, bought a used Boost branded phone and changed my chosen phone to that boost imei. Put the boost phone away (still have it).
I did this maybe 3 different times to 3 different phones on different carriers....was really the only way to have the device you wanted on the carrier you had......
Again, that was when carriers had too much power and most networks were all cdma....a dark time.
To be clear, i owned the phones/imei's outright.
I used to dream about the day we'd get gsm phones....the cellular world is much better now so no need for imei swaps (on legit devices)

imei changing/swapping is illegal in the US.. are u sure ur not talking about sim swapping lol..
i suppose if u owned the devices outright then y not.. but its still illegal.. devices have an imei for a number of reasons so manipulating that i can also understand why its illegal some places..
think of it like a car.. if u got a cheap pinto and take that license plate with the tags n all and swap it onto a sports car to avoid paying higher insurance or w.e then if u get caught u pay the price lol..
its an identifier.. for networks, global imei blacklists, financing etc. etc. its like an ssn for a phone lol.. ppl dont go changing their ssn when they feel like it lol..
i can see both sides but more so the carrier side since most ppl (not all) that r changing imeis are for nefarious reasons.
Exactly, imei changing is illegal, any way you look at it, it is illegal
Never suggested that it wasn't...and while i had my reasons back then, these days the only reason i would imagine someone doing it would be in the case of a "stolen" device. I don't condone that
