[Q] My Email won't refresh - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I've noticed, since switching from HTC Hero to Gnex, that my stock Email client won't refresh with no matter what version of ROM.
I never use Gmail app, only a default one with 5 inboxes combined. Refresh time is set 5mins primary and 1hr other. No matter i put SYNC button on or off,I recieve no notifications, only when entering the app.
On my Hero with Gingerbread it worked flawlessly with even whole Sync turned off.....app checked the inbox as I set.
What could be the problem?

Possible solutions are settings in gmail app, Google account settings
in main settings, sync enabled on toggles, bad gapps download etc.
If all else fails d/l ROM and stable gapps again backup with adb and
reflash.

I use stock e-mail client,not a Gmail one...

[Q] GMail App does not auto Sync, not push

Hey there
I have a rather annoying issue since I switched to froyo (proper OTA) with my gmail app:
it does not auto-sync, nor tell me instantly when a new mail arrives. Actually, it only tells me, when I manually sync the accounts.
I reckon to have set it up the right way*, rebooted the device, deleted and re-added the accounts, but still no notifications when I receive mails.
Yet, is there maybe any point I missed?
Thanks
*Application's allowed to sync data all the time; allowed to sync automatically; accounts set to sync their mail
Do you have more than one Google account set up on the phone?
If so, this is a known issue

Gmail will not grab all my email

Hey all. I switched over from BB and I love everything about the Incredible except for 1 thing....email. I have my personal email and my work email set up through Gmail (under Accounts & Settings Tab) and I followed the How-To that was put up over at Android Central to use as a push server. Well the problem I have is that when Gmail checks, or fetches whatever it is, it will not grab all the new email that has come in. I travel alot and I rely on my phone to get my messages and unfortunately this one has let me down time after time. I am rooted and I have tried 4 different ROM's, cleared cache in gmail app, along with deleting and readding my accounts. I missed a couple important emails that required a quick reply to get a job but Gmail never got them (online or sent to my phone), it did grab a few messages after that, but missed 5 or 6 again. Any ideas??? If I use the HTC Stock email app I usually set it to check every 15 minutes but that is really hard on my battery. Thanks for any input
Gmail is PUSH there are no options to set check frequency and so forth. Make sure that in Accounts & Sync you have auto-sync and background sync enabled (these are universal features).

Both of those are checked. The frequency check I was talking about is in the stock email app, not the Gmail App. I understand that Gmail is Push, but what I don't understand is why it will get some emails and not others. There is no reasoning behind (same domain, etc.), I did apply a filter so that nothing goes to spam but it hasn't helped at all. Thanks for the reply though, any other ideas?
Do you have multiple e-mail addresses going to the same place?
I would disable POP and IMAP features in gmail options (on your PC). If you do that you won't be able to use Outlook or e-mail clients but you will be able to check your mail in a browser and on your phone with push.
If that still doesn't work then try separating your work e-mail. Have your gmail on your phone be strictly gmail, and then have your work email go to a different folder and have that setup with imap, pop, exchange, or whatever your work email has. This is how I do it.

[Q] Need Help after FB update/Flash Update etc.

Hello guys,
I'm using Desire HD
Dutch
Android 2.3.5
HTC Sense 3.0
SW number: 3.13.161.3
(all the latest updates)
Recently I updated my Adobe Flash/Reader/Air apps, google maps app, and facebook app.
Now I get many problems:
(by the way: I can only use WiFi, since I'm abroad and don't want to spend roaming costs)
- Facebook app doesn't show anything, keeps showing "loading" on the main screen.
- First time I did this, I got messages saying new contacts found for syncing. (but that is strange because all my contacts where already synced with facebook)
- Then there came the next problem, all my contacts lost there (facebook) profile picture!???
- Another issue occured when going to the Facebook website (with the built-in explorer) it loaded until the pictures (so text loaded fine, the bleu lines on top etc. fine, but no profile pictures, no ticker on the right, no pictures of actual photos just uploaded by friends in the newsstream (frontpage)... and it just "hangs"???
- Opening a new tab and just going to google.com also just "hangs".
- Closing all tabs, and kill all apps using a app killer, and killing the WiFi connection and reconnect, then google.com loaded fine again.
But still, FB website, the FB app and profile pics (linked to FB) in contacts, all don't work anymore.
What can be wrong?
I already tried: Facebook HTC Sense Not Updating Contacts Resolved by Joe Lovrek Published by Jul 27 2010 (google it) ,, but didn't work.
I also tried changing FB settings on my desktop computer on the FB normal webpage, changing the secure https setting back to htttp setting. No good.
Can anybody help?
Please ask for more info if needed!
Ok little update on this matter:
After a lot of playing around with deleting FB accounts/sync. , delete caches and update and return to previous versions etc....
And changing securitysettings in facebook (desktop version), deleting apps/website in the account settings... etc.etc.
I now got it all installed again, but still no FB profile pics in contacts app, and also when opening facebook app, only text appears, no photo's (like photo's that friends uploaded in your mainscreen, or your own pofile pic left upper corner.... that stuff)
But I tapped on my photoalbums and tapped on a photo, and just left it there.....
after 2/3minuten seeing the black screen with the greyish squares on it, all of a sudden the picture appeared!!
And now when I have the FBapp open for some time,,,all photos start to appear! (Randomly in random albums!!)
What the ????
Whats wrong with the app or my phone that loading the pics in the app (and thus profile pics aswell) can be done, but takes forever!???
Is there a background program running in android limiting photos?? Or is it the adobe flash / adobe air update that causes it??
Problem solved, but another arised:
Problem with having FB and Whatsapp and loading images on the FB website with stock internet app was:
- Firewall / port issues with my WiFi,,,I use connectify to turn my laptop into a router aswell, and in its settings, uPnP was on. I switch it all off and I could download the images again.
But now another problem happens:
- after the hard reset and installing everything again from scratch, my stock mail app does weird: when I first openend it, I as normal, created a account, a gmail account, and it works fine, but I want all mail and max size. So I want all my 2000+ emails in my phone aswell as is in my desktop version of gmail. I also have custom made maps, or labels or whatever gmail namens it, but the problem is: when it downloads the emails, it only downloads like 200 a time, and from every map, (sent items, inbox, deleted items) it downloads everything randomly and puts it all in Inbox,,,I don't have the option anymore saying -> menu->maps-> my custom maps are not there anymore?!? and all the mail that comes in is in my inbox!??
And I first get all mail from like 2 years ago, I haven't had any recent mail in yet, everytime I refresh it.
How to resolve this, anyone?
I think I have back now.
I probably entered when setting up the account when at first openening the stock mail app, I choose "gmail" account....but you have to choose: "other(POP/IMAP)"
And then first thing at the top it says POP, change it to IMAP.
Make sure in your google mail account on your desktop you have IMAP enabled.
(Go on your desktop, to the webinterface of gmail, to the upperright there is a gearbox symbol which is settings: then go to 'forwarding (POP/IMAP). Here you can select IMAP enabled or not.)
Than finish setting up the account. (port number can be found on googles own help site)
Now when you open your stock mail app settings menu, go to sent & recieve, I want all my mail so I select: max limit, download all days, and maps to synchronize: now you can choose your 'labels'maps again and stuff.
I immidiately saw it was downloading like 1500 mail again, as so many I have in my inbox.
And go to menu->maps: I see all my custom made maps (or labels as google names it) again.
Works great again!
Cheers

Exchange Email on Jelly Bean 4.1.1

I'm having trouble getting Push Email working in Jelly Bean 4.1.1 without Auto Sync on.
With ICS (and all previous versions of Android 2.2 and 2.3) I was able to still have my emails pushed to the phone without having Auto Sync enabled. For some reason it own't work in JB.
I don't want to have Auto Sync as i try to turn as much off as i can to save battery life.
Has anyone heard of something being changed on JB to not allow Push to work without Auto Sync.
Thanks in advance for any info provided.
I initially had the same problem. Here's what worked for me, no guarantee it will work for you. When setting up my account I cleared the default port setting and just left it blank. Then my work server set the proper number.
Been having the same issue.
Now trying your potential solution and will see.
Update:
This does, oddly, seem to have worked.
Re-Update:
Nope. Back to non-functioning.

Seconded.
This worked. The battery on my Nexus S was drained in 5 hours of stand-by yesterday and the battery usage was 70% Exchange. Checked my work email via the pc and I had about 50 emails that didn't get to my phone.
Found this thread, went to my exchange settings and removed the "0" from the port setting, clicked save and voila, emails rolling in fine.
There is no way to make it work!!!
:crying::crying::crying:
I am desperated. A couple of days after installing JB 4.1.1 the automatic official update from Google, the Exchange email account suddenly gave up working. After deleting and recreating several times the account the email still could not be synchronized. I configure everything in automatic option but it does not work. I delete the port number and leave it blank but it does not work.
I always get the same error inside the Exchange application with emails previously synchronized, that the application cannot connect to the server but the server is up and running and the configuration is correct. When I delete the accound and recreate once more again and open Exchange app it remains long long time waiting for sync, but it never syncs.
Sometimes when trying to tweak the configuration I get the system message that the account is not found.
It drives me crazy. After trying everything explained above several times I finally succeed to synchronize by activating the general sync button in the main desktop applet (the one for Energy saving which has GPS, WiFi, screen light level, Sync and Bluetooth) and waiting for the system to ask me for reactivating the Security - Device Manager options to allow the security policy specified by the email server.
Do I have to set always the general sync button on?. It will drain the battery, won't it?. Why suddenly it looses the connection and I have to make all this mess to recoup the connection to Exchange server and sync again my corporate email?

I have done the same with no luck either.
I currently have the trial version of Touchdown installed to use for syncing in the meantime, but that's not what I want.
Yes, the sync button will drain battery, and I have gotten Exchange to work with that turned on. I want my simple push email to always function regardless of the system background data sync being on or off - like it used to.

By now it's still working fine. Let's cross fingers. But always with Sync button on. My conclusion is that also we must be careful with the device manager option the security settings. It allows Exchange to access system security settings. If not, the system perhaps blocks the synchronization. Battery does not look to drain much faster than before with Sync button off.
Exchange Email on Jelly Bean 4.1.1 - Waiting for Sync forever
today I got my new galaxy nexus phone with JB 4.1.1 and I am facing the same issue as mentioned by other members. I have tried the following and none of them have worked so far
I am able to connect to my exchange server but its the "waiting for sync" that's not working
1 - removing and recreating my corporate email account more than once
2 - removed the PORT and let the app set it for me didn't work
3 - went to settings and did sync from there for my account didnt work
4 - enabled auto sync and that didn't work
I'm not sure everyone is understanding the proper use of Syncing. Basically yes your account has to have Sync on. The other option is only the Method it will use. For example if you choose "Automatic (Push)" that just means that when your work server gets an email it will push it to your phone (i.e. your phone doesnt check at all... it waits for communication from the server which is the best battery saving sync option). So if you turn Sync completely off your phone will no longer receive the push emails (you can turn sync off on all other accounts).
Removing the port will likely not do anything. It will either just use the default (443) or not use one and it wont work at all. As an example I have a hotmail calendar that I share with my girlfriend (we keep our social stuff in it). When I create the account I choose not to sync anything but the calendar and set it to "Automatic (Push)". This means that my phone should almost never use battery on that account until one of us adds something to it.
If it worked in ICS it was likely a bug that was fixed in JB. When you turn Sync off it means no syncing will happen at all (push or otherwise)
My problem with exchange is.
Setting up configuration = all ok
Server verifies = all ok
But my company requires a security verification through pin. In ICS it automatically made that security option available.
In JB I'm stuck in exchange setup (name, signature, ...)
Synchronizing loop

Same issue here.. It just doesnt show the menu to activate PIN and the email doesnt sync... Need help!!!
Can you not just go ahead and set a PIN before trying to Sync? If its already there the phone wont ask you to do it
any fix for this Jelly Bean bug? It just waiting for the sync.
I use 3 separate exchange accounts and dont have this bug at all. I'm not even really sure what it is. Each time I add my Exchange account right after I click "Activate" I get a little notification that says I need to update my security and I put in my PIN and away I go
I had the same error because of limited internal storage. This is what happened:
1. After update to the new OS, all the apps automatically downloaded and installed on the internal storage.
Note: You may want to check your internal storage first to make sure that you have the same issue [Settings->System Settings->Storage].
2. Sometime after that my email stopped syncing.
3. I did reboots and add/delete many time, but still got the "waiting to sync" message.
What worked !
1. Settings -> Manage apps ->Downloaded (scroll left).
2. Click on individual apps and then click "Move to USB storage".
Once space was freed on the internal storage, everything started working.

Nexus S runnning 4.1.1 stock
This worked for me:
remove port in the incomming server setting
set update to "push"
enable the SYNC button
I used to manualy sync, whenever i needed to access my cooperate mail.
Good luck!
I've tried the stock exchange email app a few times and found it to be overall fairly good. however until I can have the inbox show mail from all folders then it's useless as a mobile email client. I cant be going into each folder (I have 30ish separate email folders with rules on exchange that automatically puts mail from x client into x folder)
I this something that can be done or am I missing a trick. also having to go into each folder and set it's sync options individually is a bind. I'd really love to use the stock client as it looks and behaves far better than (touchdown) but without a unified inbox from all the email folders it's a no no.
Other than that the exchange client works perfectly for me on 4.1.1 (AOKP)
Hi all.
Same issue as others and bk13 After the JB update, Exchange stopped working, as well as Hotmail connection.
I can get the set up done like another here, it is confirmed, but gets stuck at Waiting for Sync endless circle. It is set up to automatic (push) and sync email.
I tried the leave port blank, and it filled in with the 443 default port.
Please help.
I can't get the hotmail to work either, and I see from other forums, it is an issue. what a pain.
Found this on another forum and it work for me. I will see if it will let me set up my Hotmail account now.
It worked for my Hotmail account also. I had to go back and re-check the Auto Data Sync but it worked. Finally, back to normal...
I've found a solution here. Credit goes to Keith Hurst.
JellyBean 4.1.1 Sync | AVForums.com - UK Onlineolution:
Settings --> Data Usage --> Menu --> and check Auto Sync Data
Try setting up Exchange account again and you'll see the prompt to activate a Device Administrator this time.
Thanks,
no connection
when I add my exchange account with the correct settings I do not get a connection?
when I use the same credentials on a Samsung Galaxy SII or SIII instead of my own Samsung Galaxy Nexus it works fine???

I had similar issues with weird behavior of the push and sync and I installed Emoze Push client which gives me the ability to push any type of email ,obviously Exchange and IMAP but even POP3 which is very limited email protocol.
I've done benchmarks with the stock ICS email client and with several third party clients like Touchdown, Moxier, K9 and I find that Emoze has the advantage in almost every aspect.
Push notification is stable and fast ,less than 60 sec.
Battery consumption is low ,I’m able to work in push mode without charging for 22 hours.
I’m quite a heavy email user so it was kind of a surprise to me because I used to have 6-8 hours max with only one account working in push.
I have 5 email accounts which is about 100-200 email per day so no kidding ,this one really improved my life ,I’m less paranoid about my battery.
Other features which are quit useful are the security options that allows you to find the device location by SMS or email
and also to remote wipe or block by SMS.
This is cool because you don’t need PC connected to the internet to get the job done ,you can simply send SMS to your phone number to activate the security process.

GMAIL Sync Issue

Stock ROM, Gmail stopped syncing. No more email comes in unless I manually go and hit refresh in the Gmail app, or go to settings and force sync it. This just started happening. Have the phone for almost a month without any issues, then as of say an hour ago, it just stopped syncing emails. No error messages in the sync menu. Normally if there is an issue with sync, there is a red exclamation mark stating an issue, but there isn't any. It just shows that Gmail was last synced at the last time I manually synced it.
Any thoughts?
Upon further testing, I see that Gmail does have an active connection to the server. If I mark an email unread in Gmail, it immediately reflects on the Gmail client in the Note II. If I send a test email, my Gmail.com shows the new email, but the Note II Gmail app does not until I manually sync it. It's very weird.
Clear data. Should work.
also you might try opening up your settings in gmail, and go through those settings. There is an option there to have gmail sync on or off. I was going to suggest clear data in the gmail app, but that already been suggested.
I used to have this problem frequently on my last phone. I never found a permanent fix but did notice that somehow the settings in gmail would change by themselves and gmail sync on/off was one of them as well as the one where you can decide to let it notify you for every email or just once for the initial email.
