Xperia Play turns off unexpectedely. - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. My Xperia Play was given to my girlfriend who fell in love with this phone more than I did, literally!
But she started to experience some problems with this device, problems that had never happened to me. Whenever she plays Vice City or any other "huge" and "ram eating" game (Vice City more often), after playing an hour or even less the phone suddenly freezes and self-reboots (a kind of hot reboot, because the "Xperia" logo shows instantly). It's very strange, because she uses the same software configuration that I was using: NXT ROM v1.3 and Lupus kernel v4, no OC, no UV. But! I've bought her a 1800mAh battery by Mugen Power which she is using for 2 months (because on stock battery the phone lasted for 5/6 hours even when it was in deep sleep).
Can you help me? I tried almost everything - changing kernels (domkernel v13 with no GPU OC, and then lupus v4), changing ROM (stock and then NXT)... I haven't tried supercharger. Maybe it's the battery's fault?

Try replacing the flex cable.

I think its just lack of ram android likes to reboot when its ram gets low it does this to free it up

I already did that. Also I replaced LCD because it was cracked.

This is why I say Free RAM is not wasted RAM.
RAM gets full when play those games and the phone reboots.
Plus NXT and NXT Lite ROMs are not the best for gaming.
Flash DiXperia 2 Everlasting ROM and close running services then run the game.

[Q] Battery drain - rooted, but on standard ROM

Hi all,
I've got a slightly strange one here which I wasn't expecting.
My Arc S was on .6, downgraded to .4, rooted, then upgraded to .6 with root still on. So I'm on a stock ROM, and have even removed a ton of unnecessary apps - otherwise, everything is as it should be.
However, where I previously got 2 days out of my Arc S, I'm now getting only about one. As before, I have background data, Wifi, Bluetooth and virtually everything else permanently turned off.
As I'm on a stock rom, and the same one that I was on before I rooted, is this normal and/or expected?
Thanks in advance,
schnide
Download a boot editor, or check the KERNEL, if you are using the stock kernel is normally. Idk how you can stay 2 days with an arc, without charging. Check the brightness.
Heck, im suprised how anyone can keep the battery last even for a day. If i fully charge the arc s, unplug it and then just leaves it there, the longest i can get is ~10hours.
I heard that arc/s battery will get better over time, maybe thats why, coz i only got mine like 4 months ago...

You can save power using apps like "green power" and cie but I'm impressed by the autonomy of your arc. Mine survives 1 day and two hours when I don't use it. You also can reset the battery stats on recovery but it's an extreme solution...
It's known issue, worse battery performance is because of .6x version

I conditioned my battery when I first bought the phone. Conflicting reports say this doesn't do anything with modern batteries, but I've always done it and had better battery life than some.

Install supercharger, use a task killer to determinate what apps are running on the background and kill the unnecessary ones frequently. I'd suggest you to install another kernel and arconium if you have unlocked bootloader

1. i've dropped my phone plenty of times with 'barely there' cases, and it works fine
2. yes it's normal
3. you can with a certain app, but I'm not sure what it's called Some apps however wont have widgets working if you use that app though. i think it's called link2sd or something
Thx for that info bro...

1 - If you bought phone to drop it, you have really gotten something wrong.
3 - No, that's all you got. Adding it is close to impossible, due to high-tech electricity parts and stuff.
If you really want more internal memory you could partition your sd card and make it as internal memory...
How do i do that?

1 - It will still work... But Case is made of light plastic and will easily suffer cosmetic scratches and cracks.
2 - Yes... Any Smartphone Runs low on battery fast when playing HD games.
3 - Nope.
I'vr dropped it alot and it still works fine, I might have damaged the GPU or something like that, because my phone is laggy, but that's probably just software problems.
Camera is also worse, which is sad, and I don't think it's software fault.
My screen saver (the original from Sony) is very scratched but the screen is perfectly fine, no scratches.
Many phones get hot when running heavy games or tasks and when charging, and games usually drain battery faster.
To increase internal storage you could remove unnecessary system files, but be careful with that, or you could partition your SD-card (class 8/10 SD for less lag)
use my mod from dev section to increase internal memory
on stock roms it works awesome an everything works even widgets
dropping is no problem
heating does not happen when on stock
on custom roms it heats much
click thanks if i helped and if you want link to my mod then i can give it to you

2. Yeah its like on every phone..
3. Yes

Actually it makes a difference in heating between stock and custom...If i watch a video on Youtube or play a game for 10 minutes,it's heating up to 40 degrees,if i'm using stock rom and kernel, after 30 minutes it's heating up to max 32 degrees.

Return to Stock!!!!!!!

Hey guys I was running nxt 1.3 on the Xperia play and at first it was running games pretty smooth. Then I started restoring my old games and downloading more apps. All of a sudden the games have become very slow and lag badly. I increased my overclock frequency to 1.6 GHz and games were a little smoother but still unacceptable. I was getting about 17 fps in vice city, 23 in real racing 2 and about 24 in modern combat 3.
I couldn't take it anymore so I returned to stock and I flashed doomkernel and now I have overclock frequency of 1.2 and here's the fps scores .
24 GTA vice city, 27 real racing 2 and 33 modern combat 3.
Please return to stock. And get the best gaming performance
hmm.

Well I am a bit new here too . But as far as I know , I think u can remove bloatware by rooting and using root explorer. I was gonna flash Nxt rom because essentially its cutted stock rom so in theory it should be better. But quite a few ppl like you seem to be returning to stock and finding it better for gaming. So i did make a question about it too ( which u can see) but havent got satisfactory answer yet . I think I might have to just flash nxt myself and compare performance with stock :s. Btw, I think considering Lupus is still developing for our phones and doomkernel isnt maybe u should give Lupus a try .
xdark
you could also try XDark ICS V0.2 Rom, i find gameplay on this quite good, i got quite a lot of lag on NXT. I use Doomkernel V3. Also Darkforest ICS is good, but i like Xdark as it is closer to sony stock look.

My Fix For HOX Tegra Heat Problem

Hi I don't know if you guys read my last thread about me being really wanting to extend battery life and reduce heat on my HOX. What I did was simply using Blade Rom + used only 2 cores instead of 4. Performance wasn't really affected (except for gaming) and I was really happy.
But now I really wanted to try something new and was tired of the Sense interface. I ended up flashing tons on mods and bricking my phone. So I had to wipe it fully and reflash. I installed Blade ROM v4.6. Two days later I saw that it had a de-sensing script which sounded nice to me since I was tired of sense. To my amazement (though i don't have exact temperature values), the device is now running much cooler and it feels much nicer in my hands. Still a little warm but much less than on stock or custom(with sense).
I believe Sense to be causing a big percentage of that heat ... well at least this can be derived from my observations. Im not really sure if this has been posted before but I saw a lot of threads dealing with this problem and I hope this helps someone.
P.S When I de-sensed i think its now using Nova Launcher

Theres something wrong with your HoX , my hox never gets *warm* or *hot* on regular use even with all 4 cores on, when playing demanding 3d games (nfs for sintence) it reaches around 35-40C max, while playing it being on charger then it gets *warm* or a little bit *hot* HoX shouldn't be getting *hot* if you're using it normally lol, only while playing 3d games on charger. At least that's how it is for me.
what heat problem??? heat is now ancient history ever since the JB OTA
your HOX or your custom ROM has a problem
Exactly. Now even when playing taxing games like GTA 3, GTA Vice City, NFSMW, the phone stays cool. I remember on ICS< the thing heated till 50 degrees + and shut off by itself ...Thank the lord for the JB update :victory:

My phone gets overheated when playing games on charge. I'm on stock JB Rom. When I was on stock ICS Rom the phone didn't get overheated regularly, but when I updated to JB it gets overheated so fast.

You shouldn't be even playing intesive 3d games while on charge , that kind of stuff are killing your battery , not straight away but over the time, anyway once someone said about this *gaming while charging is same as $hitting while eating* =) , anyway it can also depend on your rom/kernel. I used to play games while on chrager due to addictivity of games tho never got really overheating issues, few times since i have it.

ViperX 3.3.2 stock kernel, didn't test it for gaming long period , but gaming seems to be smoother then back in ICS days for the time i tested ( up to 10 mins each game) , didn't overheat or anything durring this 30 min test period for me, tho it's expected if you play for example NFS MF for over a hour or so to get little bit warm, but shouldn't go over 35-40C off the charger, anyway you gotta remember heeting on hox can happen as well if you're in warm room , tested that lol, played NFS in warm room at my house , actually very warm room around 30C and in another room with maybe 10C in the room, phone was much cooler then in the previous room , as for playing it on the charge it got overheated in around 20 mins of playtime in the 30C room and in the 10C room stayed little bit warmer but not overheating. So conclusion = one part of overheating depends on the room temperature lol. which means hox should be literally unplayable with charger when the summer time comes =P (btw this heat test was done back in ICS days not JB , anyway JB seams to be much better for this matter )
- Edit - this was meant for this

Arc S is definitely a good upgrade

Xperia Arc S is a 1.4GHz CPU.
I notice the 400 MHz boost increase in some apps:
1. FPse. greatly boost FPS. Comparing 1GHz to 1.4GHz there is a huge difference. I can run Crash Team Racing smoothly on Arc S compared to Arc.
2. Drastic DS Emuator. Greatly boost FPS!
Still experimenting...
So I consider this a major boost even most says it's just a minor one. Is Acro S good?????? Thanks, I was just sharing my experience from Arc to Arc S. I have two of them I need a new Motherboard for the other one(Damaged IMEI, Flashmode fastboot and TA testpoint not working) I think... Where to get Motherboard? What is NAND in android???
Buy a Arc S with cracked display on ebay and then take the mainboard from that.
Sent from my C2305 using Tapatalk
I have had an Arc S for two years now and this phone is really good. Flashed it with 4.4.2 ROM couple of days ago and it worked just fine.
I have also used Acro S and it is more powerful than the Arc S and has bigger screen and performs better with 4.4.2.
I suggest you try both and see.
